Mardi Gras Parade/2010
From Pinkboard Wiki
The Mardi Gras Parade was held on 27 February 2010. The theme was History of the World. The weather was beautiful.
The start of the parade was moved by the police due to concerns over Hyde Park. The parade started at Whitlam Square with floats assembling in Wentworth Avenue and surrounding streets and lanes.
The chief of parade was transexual Amanda Lepore.
There were about 9000 participants in 135 floats. There were hundreds of thousands of people lining Oxford and Flinders Streets. The weather was perfect.
Due to an error the Parade was not followed by The Party but by a carnival.

Controversy
A group Animal Liberation had their application to participate in the parade refused. This generated a lot of press and many letters to the editor both supporting and opposing New Mardi Gras' position.
