I Can't See Any Recent Ads
Classifieds indexes are updated every time an ad is submitted. Some
browsers do not automatically reload these pages when you visit them, rather they
remember the way the page looked last time. There are also caches throughout the
network that store pages. You will need to tell these browsers to reload
the page so you can see the latest ads. Press the reload or refresh
button on your browser. If it is displayed in a frame then right click on the
frame select reload or refresh from the popup menu.
Also try using reverse order which lists the oldest ads first
and frames.
Please note you need AO@P membership to access PInkboard Adult Classifieds.
How To Submit an Ad
On the bottom of each category's list page is a link to submit messages. Select this
link and fill in the form on this page. Or select the category from All
Classifieds or All Adult Classifieds. Make sure you put the ad in the correct category in Pinkboard Classifieds or Pinkboard Adult Classifieds.
How Replies Work
When you submit a classified or adult classified advertisement on Pinkboard
in any of the various categories you need to supply a valid email address.
When someone replies to your classified or adult classified ad it sent to this
address (so it needs to be your email address and it must be valid).
At the time you submit your classified the next sequential
ad number is automatically allocated to you.
The email address you supply is stored with this ad number.
The email address formed from the ad number can then be used for replies. For example: ad number AC000001 corresponds to the email address AC000001@pinkboard.com.au.
The letters are part of the ad number, so don't forget them!
There are also exactly 6 digits in the ad number. They are zeroes, not capital o's.
So someone reads your ad and decides to reply.
They send an email message to the email address formed from the ad number.
When this reaches Pinkboard it is automatically forwarded to the email
address you supplied. The senders actual address is retained as the
reply-to address on the message.
If a message fails to get through to your email address the classified may be
deleted, so make sure you have the address correct. If you are unsure what
your email address is send a message to
me (Panther)
and I'll try to tell you.
What Happens Next?
Someone has replied to your ad and you receive their message
when you check your email.
If everything is set up correctly then you should be able to just
select reply in your email package and send a message right back to
them. Normally their email address is included in the
message header.
If they have included an email address in the message body then check
that the reply address is the same as the one supplied. (If it isn't
ask them to set it as their return email address.)
Replies may go into your junk email box or may be filtered. Check your junk email box regularly and your junk email settings to make sure these messages are not deleted.
Sometimes they give you a bad email address or your message just can't
get through. Have a look immediately below for what to do.
Why Can't I Reply?
You've decided to reply to an ad but for some reason it fails to get
through.
Or maybe they've sent a reply to your ad and you are trying to get
back in contact with them, but can't get through.
This can be very frustrating.
What can you do about it?
There are a number of reasons your message may not have gotten
through (this applies to both sorts of messages):
- They have changed their email address and not had their email redirected.
- They gave the wrong email address to begin with (I try to catch
these in the ads).
- Their mail box is full
or they have exceeded their allocation.
- Their service provider is down.
- For some reason Pinkboard or your email server can't connect
to their email
server. This could be a temporary network outage, a congestion
problem in the network, or something else.
- They received the message but ignored it, or they haven't checked
their mail yet.
- Your email address is set up incorrectly and the receivers ISP
has rejected your mail
Unfortunately there is not much Pinkboard can do to help you.
Try sending a couple of messages to see if the problem is temporary.
The reply link doesn't work
On the bottom of each ad there is a link Send a reply to this ad. Clicking on this link allows you to send an email to the person who placed the ad. It should pop up a blank message in your normal email program. This relies on your browser being set up correctly to work with your email program. If this doesn't
work, it is not a problem with Pinkboard, but with your set up.
I can't help you with this.
There is another way you can send an email though. The email address to use is displayed in italics next to the link. Send a message to that email. Make sure you get this correct. There are exactly 6 digits in the number. They are zeros not capital Os.
Make sure your return email address is correct
Make sure your senders address and return address are set up correctly in your
email program. Many ISPs are now checking to see that the return address is
valid before attempting to deliver any messages. This is mainly an attempt to
prevent spam. It does mean,
though, that if you haven't set up your email address correctly, you may not
be able to send messages to many people on the Internet, including replying
to Classifieds Ads. If you are not sure of your email address then send me
a message. If you don't hear back from me then you know you got it wrong.
Common Problems with Email Addresses
- Make sure you have the exact email address. Many people have similar email
addresses, especially on services like hotmail. If you put in the wrong email
address then the mail won't go to the right place, or they will reply to
the wrong person. If you are unsure about your email address then send yourself
an email and see if you get it. Also press reply and check that your reply email address is set up correctly.
- Make sure you use the correct domain. Make sure you spell the domain correctly.
The domain most commonly misspelt is @hotmail.com .
- Make sure you specify the correct country. The country is part of the email
address. Be extra careful if you are using @yahoo.com or @yahoo.com.au
.
- Make sure your mail box is not full.
- Make sure you set up your email program correctly. See above.
I Have Lost their Message
For some reason (pressed delete, disk crashed, brother was snooping)
their message or messages are lost and you don't have their email
address(es). What can you do? Replies to ads are *not* kept by
Pinkboard, so don't bother asking for them. Place another ad asking them to reply again.
Junk Email Replies
Ads on Pinkboard are not an invitation for junk email or
commercial advertising.
They are personal ads for personal responses only!
If you receive a reply to
your ad that you feel is junk email then please forward the email to me (Panther) with full headers and I will investigate.
How Can I Remain Anonymous
When you submit an ad on Pinkboard you remain anonymous, except to me
(I have to store your address somewhere). When you reply to a message
your email address is passed to the advertiser.
If you would like to remain (even more) anonymous you should use one
of the webmail services:
What Does it Cost
Pinkboard Classifieds are free.
To read or submit an ad in Adult Classifieds you need to be a member of AO@P. This is a once off membership.
Modifying and Deleting Ads
There are no facilities for modifying or deleting ads.
If you wish to modify an ad, ask me to delete the original and submit a new ad.
To delete an ad send
me (Panther)
an email message with the message number (for example AC001234)
and I will delete that ad. Ads are automatically deleted after 3-4 weeks.
Please do not ask for ads to be removed unless it really is necessary.
Please do not ask for ad to be deleted just so that you can submit
a new ad. The limit of 1 ad per week will still apply.
Can I get hold of an old ad?
Pinkboard does not keep ads that are no longer displayed. They are deleted from the system shortly after their time is finished. Please do not ask for old ads. Pinkbiard reserves the right to keep a selection of ads for archival purposes. Such ads will be de-identified.
Why Was My Ad Deleted?
Ads are removed from Pinkboard for a number of reasons.
Ads may be removed with no explanation given.
Usually an email explaining the reason is sent (check your junk email box).
- The email address you supplied is incorrect or inaccessible. When an ad
is submitted, a test email message is sent to the address you supplied. If
this email is returned to Pinkboard undelivered then your ad is automatically
removed.
- You did not follow the rule. Read the rules here.
