This is an unofficial history of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parties. There are many histories of the Parade, but there is not a lot of history written about the Parties.

While the Parade is the public face of Mardi Gras, the Party is the face of the community. The party is our celebration of who we are, where we have come from and where we are going. We may remember legendary floats such as Fred Nile's head. But we also remember party highlights such as Sylvester, Kylie, Deborah, Mogadonna, Ganesha. I could go on.

These are our community memories and they need to be documented.
