Pinkboard Sleaze Wall 1999 Graffiti Ball 2
It's barely a week to go. This year is going to be different. The opening
show is in the Horden, as is the costume pagent. Men's only and Women's only
spaces are set to go off, each in their own tent. There will be bindis everywhere!
What shape will yours be?

Glenn and Gillian on Out FM were just giving out some costume ideas. Gillian will be the one wearing the Curry Poof t-shirt at the party. The also predicted lots of Taj My Hole's and Pop Adam's. Snake charmers, elephant tamers, or any of the native animals were also suggested. Otherwise just throw on a sari or a bindi.

1 week to go and the serious decisions have to be made.
Euro's, light bulbs, Mitsubishi's?
Mark and I'm .......... - Fri Sep 24 18:49:01 1999
on the subject of shows, why has no one postulated alanis morrisette doing "so pure"? she's performing in sydney on 10 oct and her whole bleeding album is tinged with indian overtones. sounds like a perfect match.

My suit is at the dry cleaners getting ready for the Homosuit party. All I have to do is select the tie. Do you think the pale pink or the silver with the dolphins would be better?
Sat Sep 25 9:39:44 1999
Really looking forward to Sleaze Ball. Can we have a couple more postings about who the shows will be? I mean, its only a week to go.. surely there is some idea by now! :)
Also, Thelma and Jimmy doing *that* song would be great! I don't think it's going to happen, but it was a great sight on E news the other night.
Party favourites.. sorted. Transport.. sorted. Tickets.. sorted. Clothes.. well, pants and shoes sorted at least, and who cares about the shirt!
Lets all have a great time!!!!!!!

I'd love to see her perform Beethoven, i suppose we do have to use whoever is town, what about Amiel/ Josh ABrahams Addicted to Bass?? In the same way can be carried on the congress of a dog, the congress of a goat, the congress of a deer, the forcible mounting of an ass, the congress of a cat, the
jump of a tiger, the pressing of an elephant, the rubbing of a boar, and the mounting of a horse. And in all these cases the characteristics of these different animals
should be manifested by acting like them.

Think Tina Cousins at Frisky love, not Sleaze.
Mon Sep 27 9:16:10 1999
Wow no comments all day. There really is little interest in this Sleaze.

couldnt afford a ticket, slowlove ?
Mon Sep 27 16:59:19 1999
Lack of interest? No, it's just that feverish last dash to get the costume finished and the enhancements organised. Can't wait to see the decorations for the halls - this year's theme should really inspire some trippy effects. Kamahl and his daughter, I find that hard to believe. Oh well, as long as they don't decide to lead him in on the back of an elephant - it was bad enough at Mardi Gras being trampled by the chick on the scaffolding bed.
angelboy - Mon Sep 27 17:00:19 1999
would it be really tragic if I dressed as an American Indian ?
Pokahotass - Mon Sep 27 17:01:44 1999
Dear Pokahotass, you're too late! One of my friends is already going as an American Indian- so i guess you won't be alone! Now what about these bloody shows? I need answers boys, answers! lol
MsThing - Mon Sep 27 18:53:43 1999
My pet theory about lack of interest is that everyone is busy sewing for the end of the millenium party and they just forgot about Sleaze.
Sleazoid - Mon Sep 27 19:45:26 1999
Well I've just read that Michael Jackson's latest obsession is Hinguism. So there's your answer. LOL. Kamahl and his daughter Rani? Technically they're not quite international acts I guess. Could be fun. Possibly.
EC - Mon Sep 27 20:51:22 1999
"The Phantom Insider" was spot on re the acts for Mari Gras '99 with the times, location and people on that grafitti wall. Where are you Phantom?
Lack of interest -- No way,the thought of something imaginative to do/ wear (even slightly) has been keeping me busy all week.

Sleazeball is a major fundraising even for the SGLMG. @ $75 a ticket it is expensive (blame Fox) but the money goes back into our community. If you are still deciding if you are going to go or not, please rush out and buy a ticket. It will be a fabulous event.
Tue Sep 28 21:01:29 1999
$75 spent on Sleaze Ball which funds the parade and festival seems better value to me than close to $60 for some other parties where the money just goes into the pockets of the promoters.
Technowarrior - Tue Sep 28 21:59:13 1999
Yayyyyyyy, we are so excited!!! We have finally organized everything, after a harrowing ticket experience in Melbourne, both the of the ticket agent, travel agent, and myself i will be on my way!! I just can't wait to party and meet all the fabulous fellow homosutra queer folk! Sarongs, slicked back hair and bindies, mmmm and a cool spring breeze with that intense realization that all is well and wonderful.......
fb hh - Tue Sep 28 22:03:45 1999
Have just scolled back over the sleaze pages and thought i would just correct a few of you re production for Sabotage and Frisky. Yes the venue is the same and there are similar aspects used, however JoJo has a much larger budget that Ray and Phil. I have 6 guys turing the metro around on Sunday, more than doubling the sound system, reprogramming the lighting rig, re setting the stage layout and helping out the boys from Oracle Lasers. Jojo's ticket price reflects this and it has become a trademark for his parties. $58 for tickets is completely understandable for the amount of pre-production work, labour - including a load out on a Monday Morning (public holiday rates), equipment hire and for a live show.
Brad Wright - brad@avsound.com.au - Tue Sep 28 22:16:19 1999
I recomend being in the Hordern between 12pm & 2am. why ? you'll see !
Lola - Tue Sep 28 22:17:11 1999
Someone on gay.com told me Britney Spears.
Wed Sep 29 12:01:08 1999
Is Sveta playing then 'cause if she is, I'll be there.
Nat - Wed Sep 29 13:42:43 1999
Hear, Hear Brad. One would assume that most of the people commenting on Frisky ticketing pricing have never put together a function, let alone a dance party on a long weekend. Yes, it may cost more than most parties, but the detail to production, set-pieces and design, party-goer comfort and goodwill generated, doesn't just happen. It is planned for not weeks, but months and many, many people are consulted to ensure that the right mix of ideas become a reality. One hope's that the critics will actually make the effort to get a ticket to Frisky in future and come along and learn the difference between what they are used to, and what Frisky provides. There could be more Frisky style parties - if more people cared and bothered to take the risk!
Damon Hartley - Wed Sep 29 13:48:57 1999
Last minute name change. It's now called Euro Sleaze.
Forget driving a Mitsubishi. - Wed Sep 29 14:08:36 1999
Damon, why extend an invitation to boring pathetic whingers? I for one prefer they never went. You do great work on the sound.
The converted - Wed Sep 29 14:20:36 1999
Sleaze 99: Same ol' teeny tiny shorts probably this time concealed in saris and bindies on the forehead. Yawn to the theme. Still, venue will be exciting to explore and DJs sound good. Go Annabelle!
Wed Sep 29 14:27:42 1999
Kamahl and Rani?! Rip off the saffron sari and shove me a super E folks. Let's forget Britney Spears too. Unless we want a blue light disco for polyester girls.
Let's all pray that the trip outside the girl bar is worth it; Annie Lennox will kill me with excitement but with Jude and the leather girl, the night would be just too perfect.

Just got back from doing bump-in. Ganesh looks great. RHI feels totally different already. There is seating in both Horden and RHI. The section between the Horden and RHI has also been finished and looks good.
Panther - Wed Sep 29 19:27:41 1999
I want to live like elephants ... er animals ... careless and freeee. Question: how on earth will the RHI queens cope with the main show activity occuring in the Hordern? Answer: surely they'll be at least pleased that the s*******s will be elsewhere waiting for Annie/Madonna/Janet/Cher/Britney/Mel C!

What the hell are Euros, apart from Sash type trance tracks and a species of kangaroo?
Wed Sep 29 22:57:58 1999
I thought 2 shows were in the Hordern ?
Chicken Tika - Wed Sep 29 23:16:49 1999
Can someone please tell me why we have this tradition of not being being told what time shows are on at. It doesn't make much difference when there's only one hall but at Sleaze there are 3 (or more). Why can't we be treated like adults? I'm still looking forward to it though.
Annis - Thu Sep 30 8:29:00 1999
Annis - the answer is safety. If 10 thousand odd people rushed to the RHI to see a show it would be a major problem. keep it vague, spread the shows to other venues, keep us guessing and they can reduce the fire / emergency/ safety risks.
Thu Sep 30 9:02:35 1999
Syphon: awww... now I'm all embarrassed... don't get too excited... you might already know who I am.

J - Thu Sep 30 14:02:33 1999
I'll be surprised to see your post of 9:34:49 still here by the end of the day Nat. My reply to you about yobbos at the Love Parade was 'edited' due to drug references. LOL. Come along Panther, hardly a week goes by without a stack of much more blatant stuff in SSO. Chortle.
EC - Thu Sep 30 14:32:51 1999
Oops, blush, I just saw it did survive. Weird, I reloaded and it wasn't showing.
Ditto - Thu Sep 30 14:43:31 1999
What, we can't talk about drugs now? Even channel nine can make references to drugs (and for that matter, they can even say f*ck without the asterisks on channel Ten). Enough of the infantalisation.
Thu Sep 30 15:21:24 1999
Euros have the euro currency logo on them.
Nat (just giving the facts, surely nothing wrong with that) - Thu Sep 30 15:38:56 1999
Just been over to the other wall EC and your "eccie in the water" comment is still there. Did you say more than that?
Nat - Thu Sep 30 15:40:38 1999
Opening show...boys and girls on stage together all painted like the ad for Sleaze...very tantric
....how surprising....
? - Thu Sep 30 19:34:31 1999
I am so so excited!
Who's seen the carpark thing between the halls? It will be a great place to get lost.
Also the stage in the RHI is in the middle and you can walk Under it - I cant wait!
'e'xcited - Thu Sep 30 19:37:29 1999
Really? you can walk under it...hope it doesn't colapse LOL.
What is the carpark thing? More info so we can get excited too!!!
MG - Thu Sep 30 19:42:11 1999
Opening show in RHI or Hordern? Anyone know what time? Then its all night partying for us wherever the shows are. Have a good time.
Thu Sep 30 23:53:46 1999
what song would you kill to hear at the party ?
Chicken Tika - Fri Oct 1 2:38:42 1999
1998 - Binary Finary
Want you to stay (I think) - Delegate (my substance re-inducing song)
Synths and Strings - by someone *shrug*
Several other songs that have names that are not very intuitive to the music.
J - Fri Oct 1 8:52:37 1999
Pinkboard does not deny that drugs exist, but I cannot allow promotion of drugs. Drugs are still illegal and if Pinkboard is to survive it must obey the law.
Panther - Fri Oct 1 8:55:47 1999
J - Synth & Strings is by Yomanda
another J - Fri Oct 1 9:41:54 1999
Does anyone know about the laws that some of the Recovery venues have to follow, regarding opening before 8pm? I understand that for places that don't have a 24 hour license, they have to serve food, everyone in the place has to have a plate, and must be sitting. Seems a bit extreme, but considering all the weird crackdowns on Oxford Street, are many venues adhering to this? How strict will the cops be?
J - Fri Oct 1 10:13:58 1999
there'll be a sausage sizzle at the Beresford Lane. Everyone is oblidged to have a mouthful or they cant sit in the gutter.

Hmmm, the Lanes fun but....I'll be down at the Barracks, hopefully there'll be a few free sausages down there too....hehe

Fri Oct 1 15:28:02 1999
I was at the Old Show grounds last night. The sets in the RHI and Hordern are looking Fabulous. Shows are in both. Opening show around 1am in the Horden. The RHI is looking quite different to usual. DJ's are where we are use to seeing the Stage and all I'll
say is regarding the Stage it is very different indeed and puts a
whole different aspect on the RHI. The Dome?...... well I didn't get
over there so it will be a surprise for me too. Lastly don't plan to
meet anyone under the Mirror ball in the centre of the RHI - there's a stage there!
Have a safe Sleaze

F*U*NkeeBoi - Fri Oct 1 16:09:26 1999
Some more show info from Out FM and the party Committee today
Show 1 - Hordern
Show 2 - RHI
Show 3 - Hordern
Show 4 - RHI
The set up for the RHI is quite different as nameless mentioned above and all info points towards it being really wonderful. There is also a large ghana (?) in of the halls that must be given an offering (or at least a ritual solo dance for)to ensure each individual has a Fab party. Also, Allan Parkinson's lights have been set up to include and encompass the roof in the RHI as it apparently has been finished and looks great.
Have an uplifting night everyone and look out for the small 2" mirrorball necklace (and say hello)
Mark and I'm ........ - Fri Oct 1 16:11:11 1999

If you haven't got your costume ready and still want an idea - dress as Saffron from Ab Fab. My costume is now ready - I have picked enough bindi eyes from my lawn. I'll get plenty of space on the dance floor.
Sat Oct 2 10:02:06 1999
No sleeps left now. Hope we get to dance together Nat, EC, Rooster and F*U*NkeeBoi, even if we don't realise it. As for the music, I'm sure I'll get to hear Universal Nation by Push, which will sound awesome in a big space like the Hordern or the RHI. The Nightingale by DJ Mind X would be great to hear as well. And any techno or trance with a bit of acid thrown into it would top the night. But it won't be so bad if I don't because I'll get to hear that at Freakquency tomorrow. I think I'd better go take some more vitamins.
Technowarrior - Sat Oct 2 10:55:09 1999

Mother Theresa? ooooh dear.
Sun Oct 3 14:46:45 1999
Excellent job Mardi Gras. The best Sleaze in years. Everyone I know had a fantastic time and as usual can't believe it's all over for another year. Loved the stage in the RHI, took a while to get used to it but wow! it felt like a totally different venue. Some people hate change but I think those sorts of changes will keep the party fresh. Some other points worth noting....plenty of seating, clean toilets, speedy ticket gates, room to move, superb lighting, love the H2Go water and friendly staff/volunteers. Well done.
A Happy Punter - Sun Oct 3 17:08:26 1999
Loved the party. Somewhere between last years sleaze and this years Mardi Gras, though much closer to the latter.
DJ's in the RHI -Rob Davis was fun, Paul Goodyear -disappointing (probably due to the expectations I had built up in my head) and Luke Leal was absolutely fab.
I wish I could remember some of the tracks he played, especially the opening number (so help if you can!)Stage in the RHI was fun and different, almost creating 2 separate halls in the one hall (if that makes sense). It did however make it even harder to recall which half I was in and where the front was. I saw 3 shows, thought beautiful people was uplifting, can't remember thre 2nd one (off my face at that stage)and thougfht the closing show was very average. Unfortunately blow up dummies do very little for me (and I have propositioned some, so should know)! Could anyone fill me in on the third (Hordern) and the content of the second (RHI).
The party seemed very gay(as it should be) and as I prefer despite my personal orientation.
Allan Parkinson's lights were great.
Got to go and have a post party ice cream binge. Will add tommorrow
Mark and I'm soory but I'm straight - Sun Oct 3 20:39:00 1999
The Hordern was brilliant. Sveta and Alex Taylor did a fantastic job. My best Sleaze ever. Congratulations Glen Horder and all on the party committee.
Technowarrior - Sun Oct 3 22:28:22 1999
Congratulations Mardi Gras!!!! You've finally done it. The music wasa great except for a small segment for Paul Goodyear..but hey.....the rest was fab!! The shows were extremely colourful and so well danced by the MG Dancers! The stage in the Horden seemed slightly higher making it easy for all to see, and the stage in the RHI was simply stunning!!!!! there was plenty of outside space....men's and women's spaces...clean toilets...lots of outside lighting. Also nearly forgot to mention the fabulous lighting rig in the Horden, and of course we must not forget...Ganesha...wow, what a piece of fabulousness that was.....good on you again, and thank you very much! Now we can look forward to Mardi Gras 2000 with great expectations!!!!
David...old but not out! - Sun Oct 3 22:43:29 1999
I thought it was a bit slack there was very little lighting in the RHI...Usually I spend my Sleaze and Mardi Gras in the RHI all night, but this time, I was almost exlusively in the Horden because of the lack of lasers and effective lighting in the RHI.
The shows were a little confusing, as to who would be appearing in which pavilion and when. Who was the special guest?
Was there any special guest?
JJ - Mon Oct 4 0:19:41 1999
great party ! loved the Hordern espesially Scott Shimmia & Sveta's music. that big elephant was trippy. recoveries sucked ass. Arq is tragic. Gilligans was a horror movie. I need to sleep.
Rezonator - Mon Oct 4 11:19:01 1999
Congratulations to all partygoers.
We in Medical had a very quiet time. It was sort of refreshing - if not long!
Look out for yourself, look out for your friends, look out for each other.
You make the event - wherever and whenever they are.
Take care
Mikey - Mon Oct 4 12:05:04 1999
Great job Mikey et al
Mon Oct 4 12:48:37 1999
Nice to see the positive feedback and glad you all had a good time. I would like to convey my personal thanks to the wonderful team behind the scenes who worked like dogs to make this party happen. To my fabulous staff Kirsten McLeod and Allison McNamara, and once again my valued colleague Iain Reed. Thanks for your brilliant support and keeping the chief sane! To my sister Jane Becker and the multi talented workshop team for the inspiring scenic treatment of the halls. To the designers Allan Parkinson, Jamie Ivarsen, Antony Read (Moose), and Barbara Williams. To my beloved sister Kathy Pavlich and her security team who protect you all and keep the party safe. To Mikey and the Medical team- so glad it was a quiet one for you guys- so nice to see smiles at the end for a change- you are all legends. To stage management and all the crew- champions. To Party Committee, Chris Fox and the bump in team and those special people like Paul Dillon who just do what has to be done- love ya work! And Glenda- great job on your first darling - hope I wasn't too rough! Looking forward to the challenge of Mardi Gras with this great team in place. Much love and thanks to you all (and hope I didn't miss anyone).
Katrina Márton (alias the Chief) - Mon Oct 4 12:59:34 1999
Sleaze was nothing short of sensational. The Mardi Gras Party committee should be congradulated for their efforts. They tampered with the formula just enough to give us a new and exciting experience. The music in the Hordern was world class and as for that elephant, I think we all have a new gay icon!
Worth every $ - Mon Oct 4 13:01:03 1999
And they all lived happily ever after ;-)
EC - Mon Oct 4 16:09:46 1999
Don't you hate it when the one time you can't make it to Sleaze everyone starts raving on about how it was the best ever?! Roll on MG2000!
Sleepless (and moderately pissed off!) in Brisvegas - Mon Oct 4 16:18:58 1999
Sleaze was average - the music was generally off putting in all dance spaces (too much jungle!!!!), especially in the Dome.
I enjoyed recovery at the Barracks much more than Sleaze - music was great, lots of gorgeous guys, good lighting effects, great atmosphere - that's what a good dance party needs.
MG should look at bringing in new "fresh" DJ's if parties like Sleazeball and MardiGras are to survive - listen to your members MG!!!!! I definitely will not be going to MG2000 and will be doing either Homo Eclectus or the Recoveries.
Not totally happy - Mon Oct 4 17:44:59 1999
what the hell do you mean by "too much jungle" ??? as in drum & bass ? do you even know what that is ? I didnt hear any "jungle" at the party
candy ass - Mon Oct 4 17:52:31 1999
I totally agree with Rezornator. the Hordern rocked ! it was a bummer that Scott Schimmia's music got interupted by the costume pageant. he was fab ! Bill Cotsis was great as well. good work boys ! I wanna see & hear more of you
Hugo - Mon Oct 4 18:30:31 1999
Right, now where was I up to yesterday? Ah yes, Luke Leal's set. Can anyone fill me in on what styles of music that tends to come under? Need to get to a record store and dispense with some cash pretty urgently. I have one minor quibble about the evening (that is at least constructive). The bar I went to at about 11:15pm had no change. The smallest I had was a $10 bill and was dying of thirst due to some serious early grooving. That ended up being the most expensive bottle of water I have had! In hindsight, I could have bought 2 bottles or walked to another bar, but in my condition at the time, logical thought processes were not an available option. Little things like that should be easy to rectify come February.
JJ, I thought the lights in the RHI were great, but everyone has their own tastes (oh and I was viewing them through a kaleidoscope, which made them look very special). I'll bring several along next year so I don't have to worry about losing it when it does a lap of the hall without me!
Oh and finally I went for CK enhancers to do the job on the night and they were also fantastic (so much that I lost my friends for almost the entire night, but who cares).
Mark and I'm sorry ...... - Mon Oct 4 18:54:08 1999
The shows: 1am Horden - Beautiful Stranger community show. 3am RHI after procession around grounds, can't remember the song, community show. 5am Horden Justify My Love. Closing RHI Missionary Man. No special artists.
Mon Oct 4 20:20:46 1999

Mon Oct 4 22:33:32 1999
what was the last track that Scott Shimmia played ? I gotta have it !
Nylon - Mon Oct 4 22:40:30 1999
The shows were *great*. Some of the best I've seen. Sexy, exotic, beautiful sets, great great dancing. Music so-so. I go for the Dome. It didn't hit groovey, rhythmy, bluesy soul til late in the morning. The crowd seemed cool - read chilly. And no men's root space. Well - not that I could find. So Sleaze's now respectable?? Things got grubby in the Dome but little real action. Where did everyone get off?
Annis - Mon Oct 4 23:26:28 1999
Perhaps they went to dance. Now that would be a new concept in Sydney. LOL
Tue Oct 5 8:00:06 1999
I think I made the right decision not to go to Sleaze - I would have hated the music. Thanks Frisky team for providing me with what I like. Thanks Headquarters team for providing apres Frisky 'entertainment'. Curious what this new kid on the block party director is going to come up with for MG2000. Should I start buying all the Clubbers Guides now? Maybe by MG I'll be able to distinguish one thump from another.
In need of education - Tue Oct 5 8:19:26 1999
What a great night........Just two comments: 1. What was with the blow-up dolls in the final show? and 2. Who was the cute boy dressed totally in gold (and sparkly gold hair) up on the speaker box in the RHI - and then afterwards at ARQ?????
wonderboy - Tue Oct 5 9:50:28 1999
Haaaa... that was pretty cool :o) F*U*N @ Sleaze & Xtra F*U*N @ Gatecrasher, Sunday with a few gayboys and lots of groovy straights... damn shame all the cute ones were of the latter sexual orientation. Hope you all had a great time. Till next I feel the need. xox
F*U*NkeeBoi - Tue Oct 5 10:24:42 1999
Homosutra took me home. What a totally excellent party...what a transfiguring Hordern(particularly Sveta), What a tasty fu*k from two sexy boys who picked me up in the Mens Space....
Thanks thanks thanks Glenn Horder...you are a huge talent and that last show was amazing...well, I guess none of us are going to heaven now!
JunkieSlut - Tue Oct 5 10:37:17 1999
Too Much Jungle in the DOme - Crap. Bill Cotzis was sleazy and brilliant as usual. Since when have the Beloved & Stone Roses been classified as Jungle? I remember Bjork's Big Time Senusality as well. Annabelle Gaspar played some tribal beats - but also a mix of Moloko's SIng it Back with a male vocal that was the closest thing I've ever heard to sex in music. The Dome was garage and dubbed house from 3am - it was sexy as it should be. More, more, more.
Bill Cotzis fan club. - Tue Oct 5 11:11:47 1999
The 3am show in the RHI was Monsoon - Ever So Lonely.
Loved it - Tue Oct 5 11:13:24 1999
too all the people who decided not to go to sleaze....you really did miss out! bad luck :-)
Tue Oct 5 11:28:02 1999
The Taj Mahal stage set at Frisky was brilliant. Tina went down a storm. Lights and sound - great as ever.
How many more sleeps to November Frisky ? - Tue Oct 5 11:56:48 1999

Drag! Drag! Drag! Please give some real artists a gig at the big parties. School Panto should stay there. Lip synching! How we've evolved! It may be E.Tuesday but the talent was way too low on the ground.
come on Mardi Gras stop yhe cultural oppression! - Tue Oct 5 16:05:28 1999
Congratulations to all who worked on or at Sleaze 99. It was fantastic. For a change I spent most of the night in the Horden and the music was sensational. Loved the temple in the middle of the RHI.
15th Sleaze and still going Strong - Tue Oct 5 19:18:22 1999
yes ! the music in the Hordern at the start of the night was sensational ! funky as hell.
Hunter - Tue Oct 5 23:45:20 1999
Who is this Scott Shimmia guy? He set an awesome mood to create an awesome night ahead. Where is he resident? I'd love to be able to dance to his funky beats again. And i could be wrong but i got a few glimpes. I think he might be kinda cute as well. Only complaint is the interuptions to his set with the shows.
Scott's Newest #1 Fan - Wed Oct 6 0:26:34 1999
The music in the women's tent went off! Just ask all the boys who left the men's tent and tried to get in. Sorry guys, I wish that you coulda come in and shared it with us... dancing between the tents on the mud and gravel must not have been fun.
J - Wed Oct 6 9:42:58 1999
Loved the Hordern - thanks Sveta and Alex. And Freakquency at Sublime was one of the best recoveries I have ever been to.
Nat - Wed Oct 6 10:45:11 1999
Good concepts; Very, very straight; little atmosphere; appalling sound in the RHI (again); Almost got there! Good effort for your first Glenn.
Wed Oct 6 10:50:05 1999
Accolades to all who put together homosutra sleaze! Workers, designers, dancers, attendees and all. Alex T, you were brilliant. Sublime recovery was sensational, Suzuki is a DJ genius. Danced my chains off surrounded by beautiful men but too drug f#@*ed to notice their attentions! Pinch me next time boys!
Stra'acting. - Wed Oct 6 11:42:57 1999
The sound in the RHI was better than it has ever been - the bass boomed and the top end was crystal clear. Stop complaining or get earplugs.
Wed Oct 6 13:36:49 1999
NV recovery was a veritable smorgasboard. Spicy's glams and studs. Well done for a brilliant DJ line up.
Thank god for the air con at Arq recovery. Will somebody tell them that they need to reassess the carpet situation in the vacuum between the entrance and the floor.
Syphon - Wed Oct 6 13:55:41 1999
Hey Syphon... glad ya had a great time at NV. Shame we didn't meet up there or at Sleaze.
J - Wed Oct 6 14:17:54 1999
Personally I find the large dance parties overwelming. I didn't go to the Sleaze Ball for that reason. It's good to hear alot had a good time though. Instead I had a passionate night with my new man and a romantic lunch in the Blue Mountains the following day.
It's all relative - Wed Oct 6 17:35:47 1999
Sleaze was great because it wasn't overcrowded. You could actually get on the floor and dance. Maybe MG needs to consider their budgets to only have say 10 or 12K for either MG or Sleaze(assuming that's how many were at Sleaze) as the optimum size.
Huge weekend - Wed Oct 6 17:47:42 1999
Thanks for all your work at Sleaze, Medical Mickey ... and also for the nice chat: such a cute boy!
Wed Oct 6 21:03:53 1999
My 1st Sleaze, so I have nothing to compare it too..But I felt like Alice in Wonderland, it was really something..a whole new world for me...Thank You MG and all the people who made my night great..(That's all of you...)

I cant say I thought the music was fantastic. I've heard better, maybe it was the things we had - who knows?

I would just like to say i had a fabulous SLeaze BAll and i thorougly enkoyed myself. I am so glad overseas artists weren't used in the shows, they were all amazing beautiful well put together performances, espicially Atlanta Georgias show at 8 am, she is a real star now!! I can't wait for Mardi Gras. Even though i fought with my friends and took way to many pills i want to thanx everyone for looking after me, espically all the girls at Annies Bar. I will be back soon!! I love you all!

From my investigations it appears that the men's only space worked from about 4:30 till 5:30. The only other place where things were happening was the middle of the Dome. Not a very sleazy ball at all. Next time, can we have a darker corner of the tent and something other than gravel on the ground.
Horny - Fri Oct 8 9:04:55 1999
That was my 14th Sleaze and the best since the first one. Faaantastic. Didn't get home till Tuesday night. (Just wish I could remember who I borrowed these clothes off)

As they say "time flies when your having fun!" Boy some fun was had at Sleaze and Home on Sunday night. It is so much fun teasing straight boys with the mirrored wall in the toilets. Another strange fact they all dance like they're worshiping the DJ. Back to Sleaze, great dance spaces, hard to find friends because there were too many places to choose from, but who's complaining. Great to see so many people go to the effort of costumes. A really friendly party. Most serene vision was of Veruska Darling wafting across the forest in the drizzle with a gorgeous footboy in gold chains and lotus'. Totally beautiful!
Lusting for Veruska's footboy - Fri Oct 8 20:26:45 1999
"When the overwhelming majority of comments on "pinkboard" [sic] website are positive, you know you have a hit on your hands. Even the music, the most contentious part of any dance party, has raised few objections. So, it seems to be unanimous among the 14,000 party-goers: This years's Sleaze Ball, Homosutra, was a huge success. ..." Capital Q, Issue 363, 8th October, 1999, P3.

Great Sleaze. Thought the 1st and last DJ's great but personally thought middle DJ's lost it. Lovvved the lighting.
Congrat's to all concerned

The Straight Guys View. My gay mates always ask me to the MG dance parties and Sleaze - I always wanted to but declined because I didn't think I would be welcome. This year I went and had the absolute best time I have ever had. Everyone was so cool and friendly. Even though I was obviously and daggily straight, all the gorgeous boys danced with me and struck up friendships. My friends always say I am part of their 'support' community, and now I really understand how close and accepting the gay community is.
Thank you everyone at Sleaze (and ARQ) for a great party, and I hope I'm welcome at MG2000.

Messages on drug use deleted.
Nicholas Saunders in "Ecstasy and the Dance Culture" goes into some depth about the dangers of Ecstacy use, which generally fall into three distinct categories. The first is brain damage, including reduced production of Seratonin, the brain's feel-good drug. The second are those due to the medical effects such as raised body temperature, and the third is the psychological damage associated with long term use. The jury is still out on the first issue, clinical trials have only involved animals for obvious reasons. The facts may not be known for years but there is some evidence that long term frequent use causes some damage. The second, the medical dangers of over heating and dehydration, are well known. The third, psychological damage, is again controversial but there are well-documented cases of patients suffering psychotic episodes after prolonged use. Not very suprising really. Moderation, as in everything, is the key.

Lusting for Veruska's footboy - Personally... I love the way young straight people dance "as if they are worshipping the DJ". Club culture in the gay scene is dominitated by a desire to party with people of the same sexual orientation, almost regardless of the music, DJ etc. Straights tend to club for (to me the right reasons) dancing, the music, the DJ - and they really get into it (as you may have noticed at Gatecrasher at Home last Sunday). As a lover of house and trance, I find it extremely refreshing to walk into a club where fellow kids are madly goin' off - even worshipping the DJ. Why not???? He's the fella who's kickin' their arses into action! More Gatecrasher parties pleeeeeeease!
Flashing-light-shirt-boy - Sun Oct 10 13:47:00 1999
Very much enjoyed Sleaze. Best time I've had for some years. A belated comment due to slow recovery. I think the Hordern was fantastic. I liked the sets by Sveta and Alex Taylor very much. The Horderns been somewhat lacking for a few years. I think taking the money/shows from the Hordern and putting most of the effort into the RHI detracted from the party especially for those that don't like Handbag. I went to the Dome for a couple of short periods, it wasn't as hot as it has been for the past few parties but wasn't comfortable either. It still needs more ventilation. It's a bit of worry to think they sold 14 000 tickets and it was comfortable. I think they're planning to sell over 20 000 for Mardi Gras Party and have only marginally more space with less seating and staging. I hope Fox can give Mardi Gras more space to add to the comfort levels. Maybe we could have space devoted to Hard House and Techno. I'll skip Mardi Gras but may go to Sleaze next year hoping it can match this year.

Rupert thanks for your info on my questions. It's good to hear facts after hearing numerous opinions. Regarding the deletion of our posts discussing drug use, I checked the NSW Crimes Act, the Commonwealth Crimes Act, and the Drug Misuse and Trafficking Act. There is absolutely no prohibition of this type of discussion in this or any forum.
As a matter of fact, our government has a policy of 'Harm Minimisation' which encourages education and information. This is the same policy which provides needle exchanges and now a shooting gallery.
Is it possible that this board's moderator is more conservative than our state's politicians?
