I am regularly challenged about the editorial policy of Pinkboard. And I regularly need to explain what Pinkboard is and why I need to have an editorial policy. So here we go again ...
Pinkboard is owned and operated by myself (Panther). I created Pinkboard in 1986 (before some of you attended your first birthday party and before many of you started clubbing). Since then I have invested thousands and thousands of dollars into operating and maintaining Pinkboard. Each year I pour lots of money into Pinkboard to keep it running (it is not my full time job). I also spend many hours maintaining and enhancing it. I feel therefore that I have some right to dictate the editorial policy.
Pinkboard is not a public forum. It is a forum that allows anonymous comment by unregistered persons, subject to moderation. "Pinkboard reserves the right, at any time, to edit or delete any contributions ..." (Read the small print!)
Posting on Pinkboard is not a right, it is a privilege.
Thirteen years ago, when the first graffiti wall started, most people on the net knew each other. As the net became more popular the variety of people grew. Bitchiness turned into flames and then into venom. So Pinkboard, and virtually every other discussion forum on the net, introduced moderation. Today you find very few sites that are not moderated. Pinkboard has so far managed without mandatory registration for the graffiti walls.
Pinkboard is often accused of "censorship", that is: the act of withholding information from the public. I sometimes choose to not allow posts, but Pinkboard is not preventing anyone from having their information released elsewhere. (Get a blog and you can publish it yourself.) You might also want to read the moderation policy.
Parties are supposed to be about enjoyment. This wall is intended to be about anticipating and sharing that enjoyment. Unfortunately this wall sees a lot of agro: people who believe that their point of view is the only one; people who rubbish anything that is not to their liking; people who continually put down others. These people drive away those who just want to enjoy themselves. Because Pinkboard is anonymous even I can't tell who or how many people do this, but I suspect it is just a few.
Some things have to be said, and I let them be said. But once everything has been said anything further is, I am sure, counter-productive. I (regularly) ask you to put yourself in the other person's place and try to imagine how they would feel. Continued criticism and negative feedback is demoralising. I am surprised some people in our community continue to make such an effort when they are shown so little appreciation. I frequently wonder why I do.
So here we go again ... I ask you to respect the other posters and their views. I ask you to be generous with your praise and constructive with your criticism. I ask you to celebrate that we have such venues and parties where we can be ourselves without fear. I ask you to put the fun back into Pinkboard.

Guest Djs; William Silva[Sao Paulo,Brazil, tribal house]
Chip[Sydney,Australia,'tribal with an edge']
I have worked as a bartender for a few years now and I have always had this idea of putting a party together that would reflect what a brazilian party is all about, I'm talking about the vibe, the production, the twisted ideas and a party to remember, as we say in Brazil every opportunity to party is an excuse to throw yourself out there and be open to embrace an experience that can build into an absolut unforgettable memory piece.
When I say Brazil do keep in mind we are not thinking women in their bikinis and feathers, we talking about great beats, hot bodies in our famous speedos and drag shows that goes beyond the usual and expected.
You will see what we talking about as you walk through the door.
Our guest Dj William will be throwing the hot upbeat tribal sound and we will also welcome Dj Chip, who has thrown more hands in the air than that at a full Aussie Stadium.
Minnie Cooper has prepared an incredible show for the night and we will also feature 2 more twisted shows, Kitty Glitter and Decoda Secret will also be bringing their style to our d'Lux stage.
Our Brazilian go go dancers are also ready to bring their brazilian style to our great night .
We will also feature a great lighting laser show that will uplift our dance floor to a higher level to match our music.
We are all ready to welcome you and your friends to our special event. We hope to see you under our mirror balls this upcoming Saturday the 17th.
xx Daniel
PS. We will see you at the upstairs room at The Midnight Shift which has kindly supported our first d'LUX event.
manacle is back! it opens this month! i cannot fucking wait! have been lying low for months waiting for a decent place to go to in this god forsaken town !
It is the third Saturday of the month so ACTION is back at its old haunt the Phoenix on Saturday night where they have special guests, and Sydney duo, Telefunken playing the main set.
Joining Telefunken will be another DJ who is new to ACTION - Blair, who will be showcasing his deep, techy sound.
So going by the pics of previous parties jeans are ok....well Levi 501's are my fetish - so will wear them with boots and black tee. Hope its gunna be a good night.
The inner west will get a new gay bar on May 30 – this one in Petersham.
Manacle owners Andrew Clarke and Stuart Fraser this week confirmed the widely circulating rumour they had bought the Clarence Hotel on the corner of Parramatta Rd and Crystal St and would be opening for business on the last day of the month.
The popular Manacle club, previously located under the Taylor Square Hotel, will form part of the new venue.
“If you’d asked us two years ago if we would ever move away from Oxford St, we would have said no,” Clarke said. “But it’s become too violent now.”
The pair, who have been without a venue since Manacle shut its doors late last year, said they were confident the new location would attract not only patrons of the previous club, but a whole new host of people who no longer want to go out on Oxford St.
“In the last five weeks we were at Taylor Square we did a postcode survey and found that about 75 percent of our customers lived in the inner west, so we’re moving into their neighbourhood rather than having them come to ours,” Fraser said.
“It may mean that we lose some of our clientele who happen to live in Randwick or Bondi, but we are still only a cab ride away.”
Clarke and Fraser believe the purchase of the Clarence Hotel will make it the first gay-owned freehold venue in Sydney for a number of years.
However, the couple said patrons can expect more from the hotel than just the well-known Manacle brand. As well as the club, there will be a gaming room, public bar, TAB facilities, bistro and, in the future, the possibility of gay and lesbian accommodation.
The Manacle everyone knows and loves will form a key part of the overall venue and will maintain the same flavour as the previous venue, as well as the discreet entrance.
“This has to look exactly like Manacle at Taylor Square, otherwise our patrons are going to feel cheated,” Fraser said.
That includes the 300-plus pieces of framed memorabilia now sitting in storage at Rosebery, the infamous Manacle chain spiderweb, the cage, and the expected return of the strip’s best-known bouncer, Viv, who has been offered a return to the new premises.
A little excerpt below from an article in the SMH today. It's a little known secret that this years Mardi Gras Party was almost cancelled as the Hordern was flooded with sewarage just a couple of days before. While we were dancing away a few hundred truckloads of sewerage was being pumped out so that we could enjoy our night...
* * * * * *
WHEN the toilets began erupting in the Hordern Pavilion in the days before this year's Mardi Gras party, management did what most home owners do: call the plumber.
An electric eel will usually fix a blocked sewer, but this was no ordinary blockage.
The prospect of choked toilets at an all-night dance party that pulls 18,000 in a quiet year had the management reeling at the thought of glitter queens needing gumboots to get to the bathrooms. Sydney Water sent engineers to investigate.
At first they were stumped; the huge sewer main under the building normally has plenty of capacity because it has to carry waste from the nearby Sydney Cricket Ground and the Sydney Football Stadium, as well as the Fox Studio precinct and many of Paddington's finer homes.
The engineers sent a tiny camera up the pipe, and could not believe what they saw: the sewer was jammed with concrete, apart from a small gap at the top of the pipe.
Cameras revealed the blockages ran for 140 metres in two sections. The first 80 metres ran right under the Hordern Pavilion. Another 60-metre section ran under the Royal Hall of Industries.
"The mother of all blockages," was how Sydney Water's spokesman Brendan Elliott described it.
With the prospect of sewage swamping the gay crowd's most glittering event, Sydney Water had no option but to install two bypass pipes, each 200 metres long, to stop the waste of thousands of sports fans turning the Hordern's toilets into fountains.
The Clarence (incorporating Manacle) - new at Petersham
I would love to see the new Clarence become similar to the extremely popular Peel Hotel in Melbourne, which I visited last month. First of all, the Peel keep out the straights by having shots of naked guys (incl thier bits) on all the plasma screens thoughout the place, and the music is a mix of more popular recognisable commercial music (top 40 etc). Would be great to see male strip shows make a comeback in NSW too, makes a change from Drag all the time.
Can't wait for it to open!! And so close, just down from Petersham station.
In the full page add on page 29 of SX yesterday about the opening of The Clarence (incorporating Manacle) i read this line with a hint of curiosity.....
The Clarence has a 24hr licence, a capacity around 350 and there are several sections...
* An OUTbar - The public bar catering to the GLBT community and their friends
* A bottle shop thru till 1am
* Wall Street - You can guess what this room is, it's just not mentioned in NSW
and so on and so on ............
OK , Am I right in guessing that they are so bold to be providing a back room ? And if so, how are they getting around the NSW laws regarding this issue ?
Yes the hot male videos is always a drawcard for gays and a repellent for straights. Woody's bar in Toronto Canada has been doing it for years and it really gives the place clear branding and atmosphere.
hey everyone here's a doozy. have been searching for this track for several years but have very little memory to go on. kate played this often in her terrace sets at home (mn2s, qn). it's mostly an instrumental floaty tune with a great synthy riff, then a vocal part which repeats.."so fucking beautiful".. sorry, i know this is a pretty poor description. help. anyone???
thanxx s.k.

Music is important too- the crowds that go to Palms (is always packed), and formerly the Imperial, would go to Clarence if they played similar music, (in the bar section).
The Peel in Melb does this so well- they have the popular music in the bar area, and the trace/tribal etc in the back dance club (which in this case will be the Manacle section). Plus the Peel has a type of "back room" where "things happen", which is up a staircase, with to an area with glass windows covered with prison bars, that actually overlooks the dance club area.
Now if we can just get our own version of the fabulously professional & diverse JoyFM glbt community radio station as well that Melb has, we'd be in gay heaven.
for me its INQUISITION. Best music ( for me ) and NO
attitudes ! great friendly crowd. Although being a thin
hairless guy , I dont get "that" kind of attention
but I still enjoy myself.
Your Ideas – Positions Vacant – Entertainment
You are Clarence, and The Clarence is more than just MANACLE and so we need you.
Your thoughts & ideas for OUTbar
Are you an entertainer with a concept for entertainment to suit OUTbar?
Positions available from just a few hours each week to a full weeks work. RSA and RCG essential with TAB training an added bonus.
Full address, phone numbers web address and email addresses are still to be finalized awaiting the release of the hotel domain name. In the meantime feel free to contact us here. http://www.manacle.com.au/contact.html
Best to get ideas to them NOW, prior to them opening, to start off on the right foot. I think having some retro/popular music in the front "OutBar" is a great idea, and is certainly successful for The Peel in Melbourne.
I'm going to Armin Only.
DJ Armin Van Buuren plus some vocalists guests.

"Wall Street - You can guess what this room is, it's just not mentioned in NSW" - "OK , Am I right in guessing that they are so bold to be providing a back room ? And if so, how are they getting around the NSW laws regarding this issue ?"
Isn't anybody else curious or concerned about this comment re the opening of The Clarence. With the pre-historic laws we have in NSW re this issue how can they get away with this or are they simply shooting themselves in the foot ?
This is cool to see Metro has all night liscense back. Hopefully now we can get some great parties back there, would be nice to have a Toybox Party there again. Luv the Metro as a party venue.
From my understanding I'm pretty sure that Toybox is finished as a party and wont have another event so dont get too excited about Toybox meeting the Metro again.
i wonder which part of this sentence is pinkboard not able to verify.
the one that says its just a pokies room or the one they are not allowed to advertise it.
Kate Monroe returns to Australia's favourite grrls night this Wednesday 28th May. Kate is supported by one of the hottest new DJs on the block, Beth Yen.
i found this post in pinkboard's archive. is anyone else missing it???? i thought salvation was awesome.
is there a place in sydney where i can go and dance to similar music? wish shift brought this party again...
"Its great to see the Shift are doing something completey different this Australia Day Long Weekend, and bringing the whole SALVATION production to Sydney. With several visits to London under my belt (yes I'm a trolley dolley) I can honestly say this monthly party is one of the best London has on offer.Hope they can reproduce the magic that is SALVATION at the shift. DJ Luke Hope rocks!

Heres an interesting observation I've recently made regarding the last few pinkboard graffiti walls , It makes for an interesting discussion, please keep your comments constructive please
Wall 55 - Average # posts per day = 14.60
Wall 56 - Average # posts per day = 13.52
Wall 57 - Average # posts per day = 9.54
Wall 58 - Average # posts per day = 9.21
Wall 59 - Average # posts per day = 4.50
It is my opinion that the over regulation of this forum seems to be driving people away. And is the introduction message to wall 59 sending a clear "you are not welcome" message to pinkboard regulars who want to discuss tough and meaningful topics. I'd suggest it is, because the above statistics certainly don't lie.
Anyone wanna discuss this and boost poor old wall #59's sagging average ??
I thought it was just because we are going into winter and people are partying less. The demise of the Hand-in-Hand parties and less new & interesting parties at this time of year would cause a normal slow down in posts.
I dont think it has anything to do with moderation.
It needed done because some people were just nasty or saying things that could cause law suits to happen.
I am a regular on a Foxtel/TV forum and someone started a post on the upcoming gay channel on Foxtel. The usual homophobes posted who dont know how to use the remote to change channels but the next day the whole thread was completely removed. At least Panther puts a wall on hold and tells posters to ease up etc.
"I thought it was just because we are going into winter and people are partying less. The demise of the Hand-in-Hand parties and less new & interesting parties at this time of year would cause a normal slow down in posts."
it's got NOTHING to do with a slow partying season and it being winter. Here's the proof from the similar periods in 2006 and 2007 -
Wall 46 - (period 26/4/06 to 5/6/06) Average # posts per day = 18.26
Wall 53 - (period 10/5/07 to 17/6/07) Average # posts per day = 10.50
I think the winter season contributes a little to the falling stats but you simply cant ignore a drop off like 18.26 posts per day at this time in 2006 , to 10.50 posts per day at this time in 2007 compared to this current wall's 4.50 posts per day.
Indeed, the stats don't lie.
So the question remains, How can pinkboard come back from a situation where a great deal of its fans have stop contributing and walked away ? I personally cant see it recovering. People eventually get sick of trying to make useful contributions never to have their thoughts published. Maybe registered signatures being unmoderated is the way to go ?
I have been following a thread on Yahoo about Gay rights and there are a number of posts that have been deleted for libelous and/or discrimination.
Some posters on here named people and I dont think that
is fair and also gives the person an excuse to sue if they can.
Also I dont like personal attacks. Especially DJ's. You get a dozen nasty posts naming a DJ but its usually balanced by others saying how they loved the party. Some just cannot seem to accept that there are different tastes and more so they have total disregard to a persons
feelings.
Like anything in todays world there are many sites now offering similar things to Pinkboard but I like Pinkboard as its local , it offers Forums, Personals, Job
ads etc all in the one site. Sure your Facebooks and whatevers have forums for party people etc etc and that would be great if travelling overseas and you can read up on them etc but Pinkboard is truly in Australia and is aimed at our community only.
Previous poster says - "Sure your Facebooks and whatevers have forums for party people etc etc and that would be great if travelling overseas and you can read up on them etc but Pinkboard is truly in Australia and is aimed at our community only"
Yet here we are looking at pinkboard with an ever number of dwindling avergae posts per day. You may like pinkboard but obviously many others no longer do and have moved on and the reason is all about people not being able to say what they want to say !
"You may like pinkboard but obviously many others no longer do and have moved on and the reason is all about people not being able to say what they want to say !"
How presumptive of you to speak for everyone. I know a lot of djs who have abandoned Pinkboard because too many bitch comments were being allowed to be posted. These people put a lot of work into what they do only to be torn down by those who have no clue or are having really bad come downs.
"This Queens Birthday coming up for example it's just all the regular formulaic events - Homesexual, Action, Inquisition, DTPM... etc etc etc"
Obviously another well informed opinion. Inquisition is held only once a year and never on the June long weekend until this year. So please explain how this is a regular formulaic event for the june long weekend?
Well I tried all those other sites like Facebook etc
but prefer Pinkboard.
Of course others are going to prefer the other sites. If they didnt they would not have flourished.
I doubt Pinkboard would want to be the same as Facebook?
its about variety.
Lots of things change -
Big dance parties 20 years ago were the gay ones and just about the only ones. Now it has diversified into many types.
20 years ago you wanted to see a new movie just as it was released it was George St cinemas now one has gone, 2 have merged and many cinemas have opened around the suburbs.
20 years ago Oxford St was about it for gay bars but not any more.
Years ago it was Pinkboard servicing the community but now there is competition but *personally* I dont think the others offer as broad a choice as you get on Pinkboard.
I've used it for personals, the forums, the occassional massage.
Normally 'Panther' refuses to publish any comment with regard to his moderation policy, and requests all comment to be directed to him via email. However, he has raised this issue in the introduction to Party Graffiti Wall 59, thus leaving himself open to public comment.
Moderation is fine, so long as it's applied evenly.
If you post some contentious replies, then you're IP range is put on a Watchlist and anything you post doesn't pass through the normal moderation process, meaning your post may be withheld for well over 12 hours. This often means that if the post is 'published' at all, it's now amongst the collapsed posts and not displayed, or if it is displayed, is no longer in context as discussion has moved on by 12 or more hours.
'Panther' is quite within his rights to operate his own little prescence on the net in anyway he wants. But if people find a more evenhanded way of having their views presented, then obviously they'll move on.
This is all the opinion of the poster, and Pinkboard is welcome to refute any claims of posts from certain IP ranges being held over for further moderation.
We should all support and thank Panther for all his hard work in providing Pinkboard to the community.
Most of us don't contribute financially to the running of this website, but we do take advantage of the service it provides to us.
I've had so much enjoyment from the Party Graffiti Walls here, in getting a real sense of community and friendship. Sure, some of us get a little out of control at times, but we should be thanking Panther for all his time in managing this site and the Graffiti Walls.
Personally, I have been away for a couple of months, so haven't been contributing to the Walls. I can't speak for anyone else.
Well, I've narrowed it down to Inquisition or Ruby for Queens birthday weekend. I promised myself that I would only do one party per weekend after I disgraced myself over the Mardi Gras weekend.
One of my friends was a very regular contributor but they kept getting nasty attacks aimed at them, so they stopped contributing, as it was the only way to stop the horrid people getting to them. Nothing to do with not liking Pinkboard anymore, they were starting to get upset by a couple of the nasty people who wouldn't accept their opinions and were so horrible about it.
after posting my salvation post yesterday my IP address was blocked. WHAT / WHO did i upset by saying i am missing a particular party??
it made me laugh, especially now - when everyone is talking about this forum being so heavily moderated. this is a fine example how thin the line is. i had no idea that by saying i am missing an event, that was actually good im crossing this line. in MY OPINION salvation was very refreshing back then and i believe it would be now as well. (i also believe and it is MY OPINION that it would stand out amongs what we are being offered these days)
IP Addresses are automatically blocked to prevent spam appearing on these walls. IP Addresses are not blocked to prevent legitimate posters. If your IP address has been blocked inadvertantly please email me with the details and I will remove the block.
I think the reason why Pinkboard is declining is that it is anonymous. It doesn't promote any accountability and encourages bitchiness. This is my personal opinion (I have never understood why Panther puts that on one in every 20 posts. Isn't every post only that person's opinion?)
Got my ticket to Ruby's Shine. The last Ruby party at the Shift was amazing, the best lasers I have ever seen at the Shift. There were 6 full colour laser heads behind the water curtain. Can't wait for this one!
Pardon my ignorance but until a few months ago I had never head of Steve Lawler (and I thought I was pretty hip!)
Can those in the know let the rest of us know what to expect?
Has he released any CD's I can get hold off for a test drive?
"Pardon my ignorance but until a few months ago I had never head of Steve Lawler (and I thought I was pretty hip!)"
hahahahahahahaha
this one does it for me tonight ...it is still worth coming back pinkboard, keep posting Mr Hip
"there is no doubt that ACTION ticks all the boxes"
except the one about being a community event where the proceeds go back to the community.
sometimes its not about 'ticking boexes' - sometimes its about being amongst friends, dancing to great music brought to you by local gay community djs who deliver just as well as the best overseas djs.
the ACTION parties at the Arthouse are give proceeds from both the bar and the tickets sales to the gay charity Twenty10. Twenty10 is the gay youth charity that provides support and housing for homeless young gay men and lesbians. Action just doesn't shout about it.
It was packed out, music was good and the venue is a really refreshing change from the same old on oxford street. Bar service needs a bit of an upgrade, of sorts - it took awhile to get a drink. Otherwise, well done guys, good initiative.
we arrived at 12 midnight, it was really packed out in the left bar and in the right dark bar. So proud to be part of leather man in sydney, so much appreciated with all your support, boys. However the place need more upgrade and carefully touch up to brings up the feel of leather pub. All my friends included me last night were dissapointed because : the bar men were not experienced enough, slow movement, not enough staff behind the bar to serve customers, took very long time for us to get the drinks. In the right dark bar, the bar look has not been changed since the clarence hotel taken over by Manacle management, the wooden cabinets, shelves and bright yellow light at the bar definitely need to be changed with more dark colour with red lights touches to make the place look more kinky. The mirror music duke box near the DJ needs to be removed out of the room. I didn't see the old chains from the old Manacle. There is no character whatsoever about leather being in that new Manacle. Very empty, nothing on the ceiling. We were expected to see some welcome entertainments in there, such as sexy leather boys dancing with leather mask with skimpy leather short pants or something. The place definitely needs to spend extra dollars to make us want to come back. After spent some pennies for the cab from oxford st to get there, we want something different. We want to support you New Manacle, but please do something to make us come back to you.
Yeah it was completely packed to the rafters. I wasn't expecting a quarter of the people who were there on opening night. I thought it would take some time to take off as a venue, but it seems that people in the inner west are really hungry for a venue. Let's hope this keeps up and was get a new "strip" in the inner west!

Don't go wetting your pants just yet.
Opening nights of new venues are always packed. The true test is once you get to the 3rd or 4th weekend after opening night, then you know if you have a success or a flop.
I suggest we all sit back and show a bit of caution at this early stage. Patience is a virtue.
To be fair to the owners it was a soft launch weekend and they are literally still fixing the place up. You could see it was still a building site so I think its a little premature to start criticising it.
The front bar has not been touched (yet) at all so it has that daggy TAB bar sort of feel but with the pool tables is was busy all night up until when we left at 2am.
The back section (Manacle) has been painted black and the carpet has been ripped up. They are still yet to put the features in like the web chain plus I believe there are alterations to the bar to be done. The place was packed when we got there at 10pm but was thinning out by 1am so my guess is a lot of people just dropped by to check it out.
I think the place has great potential after they do a few more tweaks...
"We were expected to see some welcome entertainments in there, such as sexy leather boys dancing and leather mask with skimpy leather short pants or something. The place definitely needs to spend extra dollars to make us want to come back."
You and your friends clearly haven't been to Manacle before. It's just a bar.
If you are expecting all of that then perhaps don't "spent(sp) some pennies for the cab from Oxford St to get there".
"entertainments in there, such as sexy leather boys dancing with leather mask with skimpy leather short pants or something."
The problem with paid entertainment is you feel rude if you don't pay them attention. In the old Barracks/Manacle the patrons were the entertainment, particularly in the early morning with BJs, FFs, whatever!

"After spent some pennies for the cab from oxford st to get there"
I didn't spend any money to get there. I walked and this is one of the things that I think I'm really going to love about this place! It'll actually be a local!
Guys, no offence, but just enjoy what you have for goodness sakes and support it! I live in Adelaide...believe me, all we have now is just the Mars Bar and that's it. The Hampshire recently told Blaze it no longer wants to be advertised as a venue or be a distribution point. http://blazenewz.com/news/local/another-venue-gone-hampshire-hotel/
So what now who knows here, the Adelaide gay scene is so fragmented these days; don't get me wrong, I personally have always supported venues, but others well I'll leave it up to you. Just enjoy yourself, and don't let the degredation of venues, and the gay scene in general spread.
Currently listening to: Bourgie Bourgie - John Davis & The Monster Orchestra
Hopefully something replaces the Hampshire.. when I was in Adelaide last all I wanted was a few quiet beers on a Friday night and ended up at the mars bar (after discovering the Ed had gone too!) - so not what I was up for! There would have been about 80 people there - that's 80 poofs and dykes out on a Friday night in Adelaide in total (!!)
Unfortunately Jamie there are just enough fickle queens that they will whinge/bitch/moan and post their own personal bitchiness and not support a venue if the least little thing goes wrong.
They'll spread the word which will make others think twice about going to a venue and before you know it the venue closes and then they post a huge whinge about their not being enough gay venues.
Go back on the boards and just read and you will see the cycle.
This post is unnecessarily nasty. It is from an ISP where many of the nasty posts originate: ...tpgi.com.au. I usually delete this sort of nastiness, but I felt it was time to make an example of it.
There is absolutely no excuse for such nastiness. It is not funny. It is not clever. It is completely disrespectful of the poster. It is not in the least constructive. It is only cruel and nasty. It is also the sort of comment that I get lambasted for deleting. It is the sort of comment that makes people stop posting on Pinkboard.
I wonder if these posts happen more on Mon/Tue ? ie eccy
recovering ? cause I will blasted for asking that question but why post something bitching like that. Mind
you Panter I can assure you other sites get just as much nastiness. I have been following a forum on Yahoo 7 on
Gay Rights and some of the comments there are so mis-guided so disgusting I couldnt believe it and quite a few have been deleted by the moderator although on that site it actuallys leaves a message saying post deleted
etc.
I've tried the other boards/forums and personally prefer Pinkboard.
Looking forward to Inquisition on Sat night, then Home on Sun night, partying with bf and friends. Woo Hoo. This is last party weekend before the hibernation until Sleaze. Bring it on.
what a fantastic weekend ahead!!!
i decided not to do inqusition this year but i will be definitelly supporting recoveries (midnight shift / phoenix rising / manacle - decisions decisions)
then one of the hottest djs - steve lawler + HOT crowd as well. ACTION @ arthouse will be the place to be!!!!
indulgence or fag tag - decisions again.
phoenix rising on monday morning for sure.
bring it on!!!!!
dont you love long weekends?
has anyone heard the Steve Lawler mix from the opening night of Space in Ibiza from 2 nights ago (1st June 2008)that is going around the internet?
It is seriously good stuff, well worth a listen. If this is the kind of thing that we are up for on Sunday night then Action is going to go OFF!! I can't f**king wait.!!!
After playing very electronic music for the last few years, he's back on more of a house groove. His upcoming Viva compilation looks a lot mroe interesting than what he was playing 6 - 12 months ago.
Good on you Panther. I don't know why you put up with some of this aggravation. We are hugely indebted to you. Please do continue and take what steps are necessary to keep discussion within civilized bounds.
OMG I SOOOO want to go to Action on Sunday night to see Steve but "good" Brad says I shouldn't due to a HUGE event I have on the week after for Telstra.
"evil" Brad says.... do it, your a big boy and Action is an early finish, lots of time to recovery
"good" Brad says, Bullshit - you wont recover, you and Graham will go to ARQ and stay up until the middle of the day then pay for it during the week.
"evil" brad says - yeah - so what it will be fun...
Our First Party will start of with a champagne reception, with BYO facilities to follow. As guests want to connect and play within a few hours there is a fantastically open and friendly atmosphere. We have also been sponsered by Gay Match Maker.
Everyone is happy to be there, looking great and wanting to attract and be attracted. Knowing everyone you meet shares your purpose and has been vetted, breathes a relaxed, special feel through the venue. With the champagne, the luxury surroundings and the gorgeous sexy people it creates a magical bubble of security and intimacy.
There is nothing more you have to do, other than enjoy yourself. We are looking to meet fun and friendly gay and bi sexual/curious men, who can get along with each other comfortably and effortlessly.
The venue is a luxurious fully-furnished apartment in the heart of Surfers Paradise. It is very centrally-located with three luxury bedrooms with intimate decor, floor to ceiling windows high above the skyline, pool table, spa, bar area (BYO), DJ spinning sexy sounds, and our own on site security.
The cover charge of booking a place at our party $80. Please note that you are not paying for sex, although the because of the environment it is likely to happen.
If you cant control your intake or drag yourself straight home straight after instead of going to Arq then
stay home all weekend.
Look at poor Michael Buble the other night. Reputation in tatters cause he was onstage drunk. Imagine if you zoned out or fell asleep at the Telstra function ?
Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I respect everyone's opinion. However, with the greatest respect to Panther's comment on this wall on Tuesday 3 June at 8.29am I have to say that I disagree with him. I hope it is not "taboo" to have my reasons for disagreement published on this site.
And so in the spirit of this discussion I shall now in a muture adult like fashion supply my reasons constructively without being nasty or rude as to why I disagree with him and I would expect that my comments pass thru the checkgate.
The original comment that says "Your post doesn't cut any slack with me. Nobody forces you to live in Adelaide" makes a valid point , and in my opinion is not nasty. I would challenge Panther to place the well used tag "this is the opinion of the poster" under his own post because
(a) It is not stating a fact, it is expressing an opinion, and
(b) Panther's opinion doesn't represent my opinion regarding the comment in question on this occassion
To elaberate further,
People who come on here bemoaning about how inadequate the gay scene is in the city that they live have nobody but themselves to blame. People have CHOICES in life. You either choose to live in a city with a small gay scene or if that isn't to your liking you can choose to pack up and move elsewhere where the gay scene might be more to your liking. Nobody in a developed world country is forcing you to live anywhere. Thats why Sydney is the biggest gay scene in the country. A large number of young gay people who grow up in country regions and other capitals cities are drawn to it like a magnet. It's a well known saying around the traps that a young gay Aussie guy or girl's gay education isn't complete until they've lived in Sydney. So while Jamie's lamenting of the Adelaide scene is stating a sad situation the fact remains that he can CHOOSE to do something about it and consider moving to another city where a more vibrant gay scene might exist.
It is therefore my contention that the original posting was not nasty but mearly stating a fact albeit stated in a blunt manner.
And of course, The above post is my opinion.
Feel free to agree or disagree with me but respect that I am entitled to this opinion. Thank you.
My opinion on "Your post doesn't cut any slack with me. Nobody forces you to live in Adelaide"
It's a glib acidic comment, dismissive and unnecessary. No one knows the poster's circumstances. So they should just pull up stumps and move to Sydney as soon as the scene in Adelaide starts to deteriorate? Maybe they will do that....leave friends behind, sell the house, quit the job, move away from family...and maybe they won't.
While having a vibrant gay scene is important to a lot of people, I think today's culture is more about choosing to live in a city which fulfills more criteria than just "a good gay scene". Adelaide is a beautiful, well designed, clean city. There are lots of reasons that someone would choose to live in Adelaide over Sydney. The fact that the gay scene isn't as vibrant as it could be is a negative (for some), but it's not something that everyone should necessarily decide their abode on.
But yes, I do agree - no one is forcing anyone to live anywhere. Jamie was commenting on what he (or she) thought of the scene in Adelaide. It shouldn't therefore be suggested that because of this complaint, that Adelaide is no longer a viable city to live in (which is definitely the impression that I, and no doubt other people got from your reply).
I was thinking the same ie they may be caring for a family member, may not have the money to move or host
of other reasons and its hard moving away from family
and friends.
As you may of heard it is true,
Home Nightclub is up for sale, obviously hasnt been making money...so what will happen to homesexual? there is talk of sublime being moved to arq on a friday night as well!
I love Inquisition. I can't wait to play and then have a dance afterwards.
Wearing some new gear out in public for the first time as well saturday night, so I hope the weather warms up a little
As for the rest of the weekend, going to an unofficial recovery sunday morning and would love to do Ruby, Action and Indulgence but doubt I can last the distance.
I'd love to see Manacle at some point too. So many choices no matter what music you're into this weekend, just proves the Sydney scene can still turn it on when it needs to.
The poster was saying, "People in Sydney should be grateful for the huge gay scene they have there, unless Adelaide". S/he wasn't complaining about Adelaide. It was just a gentle reminder that those of us who live in Sydney or Melbourne sometimes take our good fortune for granted. I see no harm in that.
And don't forget Andrew Pedula is playing too....!!
He is an *amazing* DJ and homegrown (Melb boy) who was terrific at Action after Sleaze last year. I hope he does the main room with Steve L. Wouldn't that be ace!!!!!
The original comment that says "Your post doesn't cut any slack with me. Nobody forces you to live in Adelaide" makes a valid point , and in my opinion is not nasty. I would challenge Panther to place the well used tag "this is the opinion of the poster" under his own post because
---------------------------------------------------------
yes we are all entitled to our opinions but I agree with Panther in that I take the post as nasty.
How is the point valid ? the poster does not consider the Adelaide persons position there and as others posted
they may be duty bound/work bound etc to live in Adelaide. The response to their post I think was more your typical Sydney queen bitchiness but thats my opinion.
Time to polish your boots and check your outfit.
Tix from Sax Fetish and Maxx Black.
Don't be a last minute bunny queuing to buy at the gate - swan right in and get onto the dance floor asap.
Yep have polished my boots, stretched my leather pants and now am ready to party.......see all you leather crowd on the dance floors at Inquisition. It's gunna be a hoot. At least with the wet cold weather we can get to dance together real close to keep warm.....nudge nudge wink wink. Have a fun party weekend everyone. Cause tis is the last big weekend until Sleaze.
The occassional post-it note type disclaimers appended to some posts such as "Pinkboard is unable to verify this statement" and "This is the opinion of the poster" are really abit silly.
Does Pinkboard ever try to verify statements?
Each Grafitti page carries the disclaimer:
By accessing this Pinkboard Graffiti Wall web page you acknowledge and agree that the comments, text, statements and other material on this page are the personal opinions of the persons who post entries on the walls.
The conundrum is however when Panther posts opinion such as that in question. The disclaimer then goes on to state:
All such comments, statements and other material are not to be taken as statements of opinion, fact, advice or information of Pinkboard, its employees, servants or agents.
Maybe it's time to draw a line under this navel gazing?
I've been to every Inquisition for about the last 5 or 6 years and usually love it (the music isn't usually my cup of tea but I love everything else about it). Unfortunately I'm struggling to get enthusiastic about this one. I don't know anyone who's going in my circule of friends (and I have been trying to convince them to go) and the poster is very uninspiring. Yes, yes, I know it's very "community" and inclusive and I know that it's just a poster, but it is an entertainment event and the poster is supposed to inspire and get you excited, and it really hasn't done that this year.
With so much happening this weekend why don't we keep the conversation 'lively'? Let's save the discussion about disclaimers and what's nasty or not for the quiet weeks.
I'm doing Inquisition and Indulgence ... with a recovery (which one is yet to be determined) in the middle. I haven't really been out since Mardi Gras so yippeee this should be a good one
Well this is my first Inquisition in 5 years, so am hoping it is going to be a good one. Last one I went to was in the hordern. Like you it's just gunna be me & the bf and one other friend - other friends are not going this year after telling me how good they were in the past few years. So am not expecting much but will go with the attitude of enjoying the night. So lucky my leather pants still fit....hehehe.
hello lil, i decided not to go. your "dont be a last minute bunny..." simply wasnt enough for me to go and buy and ticket.
i looked at the poster:
1/ dj line up - do i really want to dance to sweet dreams or 567th remix of eurythmics, not to mention put your hands up for detroit, arq, stonewall.....or tell me why? lets hope you wont be dancing to "last christmas"
2/ as someone said earlier - the poster doesnt inspire me.
3/ the price
i know what i would be getting for $120 at inquisition. i also know what i will get at action for $70 (or so), i know what i can expect for $10 at the shift's recovery or for $40 at indulgence.
so lil, my boots are polished but wont be taken to inqusition. they will be worn to barracks, action and indulgence.
hope you have good time tho
I think its the weather. I am going and talking to best mate the other night he said he cant be bothered ! and meaning cant be bothered doing anything and workmates the same. I think the hideous weather just makes you want to stay inside and the thought of being out in the cold just makes you want to rug up in front of the TV instead.
But now its Sat a little enthusiasm has started and there is blue sky even though the forecast was for wet
long weekend.
I loved those Hordern parties. When they had all that roving entertainment, the guys sharpening axes etc, the girl tied to a pole and being carried through the crowd, the guy threading himself through a tennis racket. Added so much more to the party than just music banging out all night. Gave you something to watch when sitting down or standing on the sidelines. Something thats missing now at Inquisition. Dont need some drag/miming show but exhibitions of various things happening throughout the night would be added fun.
True but then again nobody reads those disclaimers so I dont have a problem with Panther re-inforcing them with those comments under the applicable post.
I think most of the unable to verify comments come from Posters making claims to what is happening at a party or venue etc ie gossip.
I'd rather Panther didnt verify. Need to have some surprises when we go to a party.
But what happens when you are sick and tired of the same old same old of Oxford St ?
Mardi Gras/Sleaze/Inquisition/NYE are our favourite parties . Its a mix of the same old Oxford St crowd plus lots and lots of people who only do the parties. The venues are something different, they are much cleaner than all reports of recent Club problems with cleanliness.
At the parties we get a wide choice of DJ's and its not all hinged on 1 or 2 DJ's.
So what do I get for my $120 ? lots ! and mainly something different to the same old same old of Oxford St.
Ok here it is, the first review on Armin Van Buuren
* Music was great ... great to hear though stop- start and never took on journey
* Lighting was good though i expected more lasers from beginning
* Crowd, First majority straight dance party and prob the last, was abit to feral and dangerous, having people on shoulders on dancefloor falling off onto people around, though seeing a disabled person being held above peoples head with him bopping away wasnt safe for the other patrons.
* Security - Few police but Security didnt show concern for people safety
* Bar Staff - Slow and no planning, running out of water in bar by 12 pm midnight
* No cleaners - bathrooms vile, with sick in basins
Glad to See all Gay boys that found each other were friendly and dancing together....
Inquisition tonight .... Im Sure thats going to be great..
We have decided on ACTION, featuring Steve Lawler, as well. I'm not sure the $120 price tag for Inquisition(although I did see a ticket on Ebay this morning at the going price of $50) is value for money (factoring in costs for drinks, transport etc and yes I'm aware it being a community event, a friendly no attitude environment etc etc )but cannot justify the expense given that the dj line up can be heard at the Phoenix, Flinders etc on a regular basis.
Recover at the BARRACKS from 8am Sunday
Official Recovery of Inquisition
DJ: GAVYN VINCZE and RADO
The Shift Video bar (downstairs) will be transformed to the old Barracks complete with barbers Chair, slings and dark chill out areas. Its one dark and dirty place.
$10 entry
Could imagine the howls if it goes under and no more parties.
Sure its $120 and I can justify it as its different venues to the boring ones on Oxford St. Quite a few DJ's to choose from, 2 halls to choose from and knowing a donation is going towards SLPA.
Its not like its every week or every month. But people have choices, just dont whinge if your community org
goes under.
I luv the number 16!!
Inquisition is queer, gay and fetish.
Some people think it'a cold, go to Manitoba and freeezze your balls off!
Have fun and believe in yourself!!
With all due respect, you've made your choice to go elsewhere and that's great. Is there any real need to bag out the DJ's, poster and everything else about INQ?
Go elsewhere and have fun. It's all about what's right for yourself.
As for hearing Sweet Dreams etc, some of us older party peopl still love to hear songs like that. I hope one of the DJ's plays Sweet Dreams now, I'll be going off in the middle of the dance floor
Well here I am at 10.30pm on the Saturday of the Queens Birthday long weekend sitting at home, in my tracky pants, heater on and nice glass of red.
Firmly settled in for the night.
Oh how times have changed.
Ten to 15 years ago this night was special for me. It was special for thousands and thousands of us. Hand In Hand in the Hordern pavilion on the Saturday night of Queens Birthday Long weekend was just as important for me as Mardi Gras or Sleaze Ball night.
And then it all eventually went pear shaped because the gay community took this event for granted.
And now we have nothing.
All we have a string of cheap smaller parties that will never EVER come close to the great days we had in the Hordern on the Saturday of the June long weekend.
What a fantastic musical experience. Great friendly crowd. And yes it was great that all the gay boys and girls found each other and took over the back quarter of the Hordern. There were so many of us there.
My only criticism is that it was a nine hour set. He could have kept me dancing right through the morning.
Bring on Steve Lawler tonight. He finishes his set at WLS at 7.00 so i guess he will be on stage at the Arthouse between and 9 & 10pm. This is what so many gay men have been waiting for. One of the worlds top djs at a gay event. There should be more of it!
Plus they forget there are 2 halls so you have a choice.
What if "that" DJ doesnt play what Sydney likes ?
Reminds me of people who go to all the free events at Mardi Gras time but dont go to the Party which is the main fundraiser. They expect they gayness but are not prepared to chip in some $'s.
SLPA get a lot of $'s from INQ and it goes back into the community. No $'s = no future events or like Fair Day they have to start a collection at the entrance. Either way you end up paying.
previous poster said - "Reminds me of people who go to all the free events at Mardi Gras time but dont go to the Party which is the main fundraiser. They expect they gayness but are not prepared to chip in some $'s. SLPA get a lot of $'s from INQ and it goes back into the community. No $'s = no future events or like Fair Day they have to start a collection at the entrance. Either way you end up paying.
Any reports on the parties yet ?"
Poster seems to be pointing the finger at people who don't support the community dance parties and then finishes by saying "any reports on the parties yet?"
Either you don't live in Sydney and couldn't attend Indulgence last night or you might seem a tad hypocrtical in my opinion. Anyone agree ?
Me and my friends did the same. The wine and bubbly was freely flowing at our house party. We had a totally super time.
Having said that, the gay community has lost its sense of "community". I totally agree with you when you say, "all we have is a string of cheap smaller parties".
Hand in Hand like all parties back then played dance music.
Mardi Gras had numbers over 20,000. Gay parties starred in Sydney back then.
Yes people take things for granted and we would all love them to support community events etc but the dance music fragmented into a huge range of styles.
Some say dance parties have had it or they dont get the numbers etc and sure they may not get the numbers to just 1 party but you add up all the parties in town on a weekend and there are way more people going out.
Trouble for those of us around in those days is we suddenly had these huge venues, with different lighting than what we were used to in the Oxford St venues. Some parties with amazing themes etc.
Now we have stacks of smaller parties catering to usually just 1 music style from Trance to Tribal to Hard to House.
Thats why events like Mardi Gras and Sleaze have to have as many halls going to attract the crowds - a hall for trance, tribal, hard, retro, live etc.
A single party cannot do this and so concentrate on 1 style for the night.
I am going to put my hand up and say that I am one of the many stopped supporting parties such as inquisition and hand in hand. I stopped going to these parties simply because for me they have not evolved and have offered nothing fresh.
When I was a young lad many years ago, our community parties led the way in terms of production values and creativity. Sadly, rising cost and the need to sustain admin budgets for organisations has hampered this. Gone are the days when the Dome walls were covered in black velvet curtins to correct sound issues. Where are the lasers in the RHI at Mardi Gras or the fireworks on stage?
Now I choose to spend my entertainment dollars on things I enjoy. Full marks to the Action crew for booking Steve Lawler. Nothing wrong with our local DJs, they are fantastic but when you hear a DJ/Producer who spends every waking minute in the studio creating their own exclusive mixes (and not that ableton crap) bring it all together in a live set, well for me its magic. Thats where I want to spend my bucks.
There are those that will hiss and boo about not supporting parties but there are other ways in which you can give to the community. I am a paid up member of NMG, volunteer my time for several community organisations and chuck money in every bucket that is waved at me.
I am sure community organisations make more money this way than from their small cut of a party ticket once ticketek and Fox have taken their HUGE cut. I could be wrong about this but I believe that the last sleaze (which was fantastic) made more money for Ticketek and Fox individually than it did for NMG.
For many years, the community has heard about the need for MG to diversify its income stream, for our events to become more creative and innovative. This is no small task and needs strong bold creative leadership.
He certainly did!! I will say it again Mardi Gras need to look at this sort of event and pay attention.
The number one DJ in the world, FANTASTIC production and I'm sure that everyone makes money. All of the for $104 + bf (or something like that).
Today the "We love sounds" festival rolls into town using all of the same venues that Mardi Gras used this year for about $120 + BF. PLus some of the BEST DJ's in the world and lets assume again that the production will be fantastic again.
We've all realized the old sex fueled Inquisition Party days are gone and the dark dirty sex will no longer be tolerated due to the NSW Liquor Licencing Laws.
For those of you who attended the Party last night would have to agree that its most likely that we will not be seeing majority of the regular leather INQ. attendees next year as its "Our Leather Party of the year" status has well and truly gone down the toilet.
Correct me if i'm wrong. But i was under the impression that SLPA has post party reports on file and are supposed to use these as a reference to make improvements and also to not make the same mistakes for future parties. It seems the dust may have to be blown off these files because its quite evident the reports are not being put to use as the same mistakes keep resurfacing.
I'm sick of hearing the same old tired line from people. " renew your membership and keep SLPA afloat cause they will get their S@#T together this year" Yes all good things come to those who wait. But how long is this wait going to be?
Thank god for Feisty, Sandi and Ben for gettin the party rockin in my Jocks. The BF thanks you also cause he seems to be walking weird with a smile from ear to ear. LOL.
It was all a bit too squashy... but I guess that is ok for a straight party with everyone dancing facing the same direction because you don't need much room around you if you are jsut bouncing up and down and pointing your arm in the air.
The str8 boys were all a bit too feral (although alot were pretty hot to look at... yum!) and I too had never seen so many guys chucking up in the toilets at a party!!
The lasers were also very disappointing. I was expecting him to top what we got at the Teisto... now that was truly an amazing laser show.
For years I have said that dance parties are not all about lasers, its about the full production design and Armin Van Burrens touring guys delivered the goods.
The lighting and visuals were top notch, sure the lasers were not as impressive as Tiesto's but they were still fine.
As for the crowd, get used to it! More and more events are going to have mixed crowds like that - as I said to my BF, its like an A through Z of dance culture - gay, straight, bi, male, female, inner city and suburban - I personally think its the future and have no problem with it all.
Funnily enough all of the gay boys and girls (and there were lots of us) somehow managed to all clump together towards the back of the room in front of the lighting and sound desks. Was a heap of fun!
"will gay boys forefit the dance floor?"
Yes - not one person I spoke to mentioned the lack of timber dance floor - everyone was blown away with the music and atmosphere... thats what people were talking about - that's what a dance party is all about!
No offence Brad but that sounds like we should start being happy with a lower common denominator. Our parties are different and for a reason; they have personality. Its not about the DJ or the music so much.
Music taste aside its a shame some of the audience that were there haven't had a chance to try some of our events like Toybox and Mardi Gras.
Disagree Brad W and if I am wrong then looks like its the end of the parties for me.
Our gay parties have always had an atmosphere to them and the wooden dance floor
I much prefer parties where the lighting is all over the Hall and speakers etc and even though I cant be botherered with them , lots get off with the great shows we put on.
Over the last year or so Mardi Gras and Toybox parties have gotten bigger so I am hoping people are discovering
what we do right.
Facing the dj, jumping up and down on the spot - UGH !
Did anyone else feel disappointed with Rawhide? The party lacked direction and energy. Greg Boladian was good to start with but it went downhill from there. Pete Newton (in his final set) was actually very good but he played song after song where the beat dropped out. It gets boring after a while. The singer that came on at 4pm (Tanya Zaetta??? -from Bachelor Pad????) never heard of her, and the song, Can You Feel It? JUST WRONG!!! It bought me down big time. Then to make matters worse, the next DJ, KFC??? played the most appalling set, after his fiasco at Trailer Trash I never thought he'd work in this town again. Finally Murray Hood came on and settled in just nicely to try to salvage something from this fiasco.
SHAME!
SHAME!
SHAME!
The night worked well for my partner and me.
Although the music wasn't always my style and I still enjoyed the atmosphere and the general friendly crowd.
The only grievance was the cost of drinks, averaging at $10.00 per drink. I noticed that a lot of people were sticking with water because of the cost factor.
It didn't seem packed hence I'm under the impression that a lot of tickets weren't sold.
Any complaints other than drinks?
None.
It was just great to be out all night and watch people dance and have a good time.
The gay community existed long before dance parties,or even before we were legal so try not to limit or define the gay community spirit based on dance parties. As that would define us as superficial with not much to offer!
Times change and though we cling to the old we still have our memories to cherish.
The issue here isn't parties or community spirit but cynicism due to over indulgence in a good thing.
We will peck at anything to find a fault no matter how small. And use it as an excuse to dismantle and dismiss.
It's not the gay spirit that is lost but ourselves.
When ever we decide to look for it it will be there waiting for us.
Gees I like Indulgence parties. Thanks to the shift for putting on another fantastic one last night. Great atmosphere, efficient bar staff, non-threatening security, 100% gay crowd and exceptionally great music. Who was the first DJ? Big guy, beefyboy I think. Absolutely outstanding. Thanks again guys.
Music- average and at times downright weird. I was also sober as a judge rather than pay $10 for a can of premix?!!
Crowd- SLPA would have been lucky if they sold even half the tickets but at least the ppl there were friendly.
Cost- You must be kidding that you charged $120 with NO entertainment, NO scenic, NO special lighting, NO tent tunnel and 2 heaters for 1000 ppl?
DJs- Did their best but as in previous posts can be heard at any Oxford St venue for a lot less than $120 on any given weekend.
It was also advertised a 'photo room' would be in stage 11....so after looking for an hour I found this 'room'- a curtain on a wall at the back of the DOME with some lights and a camera placed in a draughty corner.
I volunteered my time for my ticket and even so I have never felt so ripped off! Won't be making this mistake EVER again with this org, nor attending their less than average overpriced party.
I remember well the old Inquisition parties- this was not even close to resembling it.
I totally enjoyed Inquisition and stayed with my boy right to the end.. Really nice, chatty and pervy atmosphere-- yes, people weren't fucking all over the place but spent considerable amount of the time with various guys groping me... took a bit to warm up because the weather was bloody awful... I would think the party would work much better in Summer- maybe between Sleaze and New Year?
Great music, particulary liked Shigeki...thanks to all for a great night
why did you go?
you obviously didnt like the last one (Trailer Trash) so why ho again?
i never understand people who go to parties they apparently dont like.
wow! what a fantastic night. Went with a group of friends from Brisbance. Absolutely loved it. Fare cover charge, good drink prices, fantastic music, friendly security and good service. Loved BeefyBoy (gee he's huge!) and Shigeki. and real sexy men in leather. Thanks to the Midnightshift!
You boys need a huge pat on the back. Thanks for being in touch with your followers because you always produce the goods. The night was awesome.
A big thank you to the Venue for being so welcoming to the boys on mass, to the Bar Staff for being on the ball and friendly, to the sound and lighting tech's great job and a very big thank you to Scott, Andrew, John and to the International guest Steve Lawler. You guys did an awesome job with your track selections for the night. It was great to see every one of you up there with smiles on your faces knowing god damn well the crowd were lovin your tunes.
And last of all a very big thank you to the ACTION Team for all the hard work you guys put in to making your parties and your nights at the Phoenix a pleasure to attend.
If anyone hasn't been to these guys parties or nights before put it at the top of the to do list. You won't be disappointed.
Absolutely! The Action guys did a great job getting Steve Lawler to play, & the local DJs did a great job too. It's refreshing to hear quality underground music & a hot crowd of men getting down.
Inquisition XVI was not a disappointment this year. They say that the crowd makes the party and this years annual leather ball was no exception.
This was probably the most friendly dance party crowd in
years. People made the effort to dress their best, and not one hello was passed up. Special mention to "Mandy" a small power rocket and 7 months pregnant, who we met early in the night and kept "checking in" with us throughout the evening.
The Forum was a little spaceful, such a big space and not many people in there, but the music was great and the lighting excellent. However, most of our time was spent in the dome where there was no expense spared on the sound or the lighting. The laser show had me enthralled for hours, and the corners, barely lit, left room for play space. The mood reminded me of Inquisitions past, where the crowd was dark, dirty
and friendly.
Special mention to the sets by Feisty, Shijeki, and Mandy Rollins. They kept a great space for a 6 hour stint.
A great party, and a sure sign the SLPA is back once again if a little different from the past!
I think SLPA were right to try moving the party to the Long weekend, it's good to see organisers of these big parties willing to try something different.
I do agree it might not have worked totally and holding it earlier in the year might be better but it was worth a try.
In agreement with an above poster, the lighting in the Dome was sensational all night long. Not so sure about The Forum, there were lasers in there but they rarely got turned on! Plus the other lights were overused especially in the earlier sets. The dancefloor was simply far too bright.
I saw heaps of people dancing away in the darker areas all night long. More darkness and more use of the lasers could have had that place pumping all night along side the Dome.
Maybe Inquistion and the whole leather festival can be part of Mardi Gras Festival ?
Like kicking off with Inquistion at least 3 weeks prior to the Mardi Gras party so people can recover.
Could capture some of the overseas visitors , be in warm weather ?
I'm not lost. I know where I am , where I am heading.
Some could say you are only talking about Oxford St people ? ( and no offence to anyone ) but a lot of , and I mean a lot, have moved away from all of that.
hmmm don't know which part you were at but i thought god save the queen was ace. good music, lots of very friendly people with a great recovery at the viper room. i travelled down from sydney for the weekend... i thought melbourne rocked with lots of happy smiley people and a great vibe...
$120 what a waste of my hard earned money!! I went to have good experience of great music, something to energize my mind.
Again there was absolutely no entertainment, the scenic was like "throw it in, it will do"!
The lighting was so basic, i didnt once see the lighting move in dome it was pretty static all night, nothing like the dome at mardi gras or sleeze ball in previous years where the lighting went with the music, i dont know who was the lighting operator but they had no idea what so ever in what they were doing! I hope forbid they dont ever get hired to do another party, if they are please let me know i wont be buying a ticket to that party!
Also whats with the lazers being turned on so fast in the forum - 11.30pm they turned on, its not like the old days where you save the best bits for a great moment, Who were the operators? Does anyone know? They should never be allowed to operate a party again!
Its like all the tricks of the party came out in a 1 hour period!
Whats with no tent tunneling? I mean come on people i would think that at least $120 would go to something like this and heaters, if its cold, there should be heaters, what happened to the good old queer nation days!!!
As you say the Djs were great, but you can hear them in Oxford St for a lot less on any other weekend, nothing special.
Yes i remember the old Inquisition parties - this was not even close to it, i will never be going to another party like this again.
Have to agree with the original poster. The crowd numbers were definitly down this year. The blue room upstairs was half empty most of the night, but then the music being played there could have been a factor. The music on the main dance floor was just bad for the most part, way to many lulls with people just standing around waiting. The last remixes of Kylie were just shocking, DJ KFC should just have removed the vocals because the music in between was actually ok. The music never seemed to be really pumping at any stage. And whos idea was it to have a singer come out in the middle of a party to perform ?? This is when the party should be really pumping. That sort of performance should have been at the very beginning or the very end...
The recovery party at viper room saved the whole experience for me, Wayne G was great and the room was pumping. Next time I think I'll forget the main party and just go to the recovery.
Inquisition party only needed to be held in the Dome, there were not enough punters for the two halls. Everytime I went over to the Forum it was dead with maybe six people in there. Dome was nice and dark but the sound was a bit patchy if you were not dancing underneath the dome roof. Music and lighting was good in my opinion. From where I was in back corner female security staff were breaking up any guys trying to get it on. All in all had a fun night but party would have only really been worth no more then $80.
I have to agree with your comments. I expected numbers to be down given the competition with other parties at the weekend (particularly with Action and Indulgence, both of which are leather parties), but I was surprised at how empty the Forum was and agree that they could have simply put everyone in the Dome (presumably that wasn't possibly logistically). Agree also that I don't think the party was worth the $120 price tag, and that may have had an impact on the numbers of attendees.
On the positive side, I enjoyed the music more than I thought I would and the crowd was very friendly and chatty (which was nice). I am worried though that SLPA may have made a sizeable loss on the event and that this may be the last Inquisition (which would be very sad).
So maybe Inquisition should never have been moved to the June longweekend.
Too much competition.
Put it back on another month when its a bit warmer and when there are no other major parties. Sure its great having the Monday off and its great having 2 halls to choose from. You need at least 2 halls now a days.
"particularly with Action and Indulgence, both of which are leather parties"
Have you ever been to ACTION? Action is definitely NOT a leather party. Infact very few of the men who go there wear any sort of leather.
There may be a cross over with the crowds but this is only because Sydney gay scene is small and lots of the men who I saw at Indulgence were not 'leather queens' - they just put on an item or two of leather for that night only.
Its just a shame that Sydney does not have a venue that has 2 complete good sized areas that org's like SLPA could hire out for the night and not pay the exhorbitant
costs of setting/hiring at Fox Studios.
Something like taking over all of Kinsela's for the night with bar/sitting/quiet area down stairs and dancing
upstairs but on a bigger scale.
Or like the Shift with upstairs/downstairs but again with another area as big as the upstairs so can offer
up a couple of styles in each area.
Action was amazing! So refreshing to hear proper underground sounds to a receptive and up for it crowd. The dancefloor was jumping all day! And how HOT was the crowd? So many sexy sexy men. Can't wait for the next one.
I agree with the above posts about INQ, the party was pretty bland and boring, no way worth the ticket price. Lighting in both venues was apauling - the dome way to bright in some places and whats with the lasers coming on so early - wft? Sound was so patchy at times ... all over the shop. Sandy Hotrod's set - awesome. Other DJ's were good but Sandy stood out. Just felt like it wasnt really an inquisition at all ??? Leather Pride seem to have dropped the ball on this one.
Happy to be corrected re Action - perhaps it is more a matter of crowd cross over.
As for moving Inquisition to a long weekend, I was initially quite happy about that as I usually have to take the Monday off after Inquisition (I can't face work on a Monday after a party!) and I think it is good that SLPA experimented a little with the formula. However, I think, on balance, it didn't work out as the competition with other events was significant at the weekend (at least I'm assuming that it was competition from other events that resulted in lower numbers at Inquisition). The other contributing factors may have been the ticket price and the marketing (in my opinion the marketing, ie the poster, just didn't work to inspire and create excitement about the event).
Anyway, here's hoping Inquisition will be back next year as it would be sad to see it disappear off the party calendar.
Just back from Brisbane and reading all the negative posts about the Sydney parties. Sweeties, thank your lucky stars you weren't at the sorry state of affairs that was the Brisbane Queen's Ball! I've never seen so many t-shirts tucked into jeans and cans of Carlton Draught. I'll never complain about Oxford Street again
who was responsible for the sound and lighting at inq this year? this was without a doubt the worst money ive ever seen spent. ever! i would be totally asking for my money back if i organised inq...
is it a case of inq saving on money and trying keep it cheap or was there just some horrible mis-communication.
im all for public naming here...
if i want to dance in headlights, ill do it elsewhere and not 120 bucks thankyou very much.
all said and done though, i think the idea of putting it on at this time of year didnt work. bring back the old days please. still, good crowd all things considered...
The ticket price probably would not have sounded so bad if the party was held in its usual May slot and no other competition but when it came up against what ?
Armin Van Burren
Ruby
Homesexual
DTPM
Action
Indulgence
the price difference was significant. I think enough people have brains to know a venue will always be cheaper as its set up already. I like to go to other venues as a change and I paid my $120 for Inquisition.
Even Mardi Gras and Sleaze suffer from competition especially with Toybox.
Yes a long weekend for a party is great and I take the Monday off after Mardi Gras to make it one. Sleaze is on a long weekend.
I think thats been the problem with a lot of parties that try and start up on long weekends. The competition is tough. Start up on a weekend when nothing usually on to get your numbers/reputation etc.
And as a lot of posters have pointed out maybe move it to another warmer time. Mardi Gras did that decades ago.
It winter a lot of people just hibernate.
I like the idea of maybe having it on at the very beginning of the Mardi Gras Festival to kick off ? then it gives people 3 weeks to recover for Mardi Gras or
dare I suggest that Inquisition be on twice a year ? ie
with Mardi Gras and Sleaze and SLPA work in NMG and they can produce Dome ? cost sharing/ticketing/staff etc ?
A very friendly, no attitude, crowd at Inquisition made the night really enjoyable for us.
Music - consistently good for most of the night, The Dome was the place to be. Shigeki was particularly good.
Lighting - Enough lasers to keep most people happy
Sadly, I would have to say that the ticket price of $120 is difficult to justify with so many other great parties on the same weekend.
I didn't go out at all this long weekend. I simply HATE partying in the middle of winter.
So I suppose my comments regarding this topic come from a neutral corner
The scheduling of Inquisition on the June long weekend was a big mistake in my opinion particularly since there were so many other choices.
It's time Inquisition looked at a more attractive time of the year to stage its event. Late November in my opinion is a time of the year in Sydney that has a big gap in the partying calendar.
I think it is not just Inquisition but all large parties are diminishing with punters. Cost is a major factor these days and peoples are starting to baulk at paying over a hundred dollars for parties. Why would you when you can do the same thing at a smaller venue for half the price or if you wish, do two parties for the price of one. You still get the same thing: music dancefloor lighting and crowd, even dare I sat an os dj thrown in. I am sticking with the $60 and less value for money ones......bring back Toybox @ Metro.
Inquisition’s ‘WTF?’ ticket price was simply too prohibitive. To many it’s a ‘community’ party that has effectively filtered out those less wealthy patrons. For the first time in five years we stayed away. Instead I “cooked” and collectively my dinner guests and I saved $480 on cover-charge alone.
I certainly don’t feel I’ve missed anything. Many of the posts above seem to confirm this. (If anything, it reads like I missed a darn good party at Action).
With ’06 and especially ’07 mediocre at best, I feel Inquisition is slipping into irrelevance.
One final thought about INQ and Action but more about the poor standards at Sydney Star Observer.
I loved last weeks 'article' about the weekend parties which had INQ only in the dome and even then left Mark Alsop off the DJ line up!
If that mistake wasn't bad enough, they then said Action was on Saturday afternoon instead of Sunday!
I've always felt the standards at SSO were only slightly above those of a high school newsletter but at least the editors of the newsletters tend to check facts before publishing them. It might be time for SSO to try something new and check things first.
I attended my first Inquisition party in 1994 and most of them since and they used to be some of the best parties of the year but this recent one was just a pale imitation of the past.
The 2 things I can pinpoint that made a huge difference to the vibe of a party was that the venue was too cold on the outskirts of the dancefloor and the lighting was generally too bright.
I would suggest to the Leather Pride Community to forget all the lasers and add some heat to the venue...make us sweat...make us sexy...don't make us freeze our tits off and we don't need to be spotlit like a podium dancer.
They NMG Lighting guys were not hired, some say they were not even approached - I find that hard to believe. NMG has not been hiring Allan for some years now and has only "trialed" Eliot once as a back up.
INQ got it very wrong - they should have paid more attention to what the NMG team have been doing for the past few years.
Having been to some of the latest NMG parties, I'm glad SLPA didn't pay attention to what NMG have done... or maybe they did and were not impressed by what they saw. I know I haven't been all that fussed by the past few nmg events.
For the record, nobody should be paying attention to what designers have been doing to the NMG party’s.
Mardigras used to be all about finding the best person for the best party. Funnily enough, some time ago that was pearl... What people don't realise is that many, many years before when all the production was done by Jands, when the show actually had a budget and people actually cared, the whole job was done by straight people. Frankly, and not to start a whole "keeping it in the family" discussion, there are many more lighting/production/audio people in the world that are not gay. By limiting the usual selection to gay people you know on the grapevine (which over the last few years have been the case - we keep seeing the same ugly faces) you are limiting just how far a production can go. Funnily enough, the "Dance Party" sector of this business is the only part that suffers from this. People that acted like this in the real world of concert/touring/special events get put in their box pretty quickly...
We should be opening our pool to the wider community and not being complacent with what we think looks "good". When you see corporate events in our same fox venues lit better than a MG party, it is really time to wonder...
Now it's all about ‘price is right’ production, boring and hardly scenic elements and design that's all kept within the family. This leads to everyone scratching their heads, pulling out abuse and generally just being what pinkboard is all about these days... bitching queens. Everyone has a bad day once in a while, and sure, some people don't learn and love to be surrounded by drama. So rather than dwell on it, we need to move forward and say, "So where from here?".
Well, start finding new ways to do things. There are many scenic, lighting, video, audio and production companies out there than have been standing at the back and silently watching for many, many years. Every year they put their hand out to help NMG and get told their not required. These companies are the future of the entertainment production industry in Australia. They have the toys, they have the experience, they have the want and the inspiration to show everyone how it's done - and believe it or not, they also have gay employees. The same gay employees that offer MG their help every year. The same ones that get told their help isn't needed...
Perhaps it's time MG looked outside of the box, or even, started to read the mail that has been flooding their box for the past four years. Because it only takes one person to start the ball rolling... not 100.
So how does all this tie into Inquisition and it’s bad lighting? Simple, don’t underestimate the network of people you have at your disposal. Don’t be afraid to put your hand up and most of all, stay away from drama… Nobody needs it anymore.
Yes hundreds of early 20's boys in identical costume - grey shorts, white, shirt and tie.
The vibe was good but up until Jayson Forbes the music was a collection of tempos - there were no two tracks with similar beat or energy level and plenty of quiet, flat spots.
I've been to everyone Inquisition for the past 10 years and I enjoyed this one much more so than those in recent years.
No, it wasn't the dark, dirty sex space of ten years ago (any remember the Ten Deadly Sins Inquisition?), but what I will say is:
1. Inquisition has always been a 'mid-year' party (April/May/June). As with a lot of leather events, it suits the winter months well for those of us that dress up in leather, rubber, uniform (it's way too hot in November or February).
2. It was wonderful to be back in the Dome.
3. The lighting and sound in the Dome were fine. Not 'out of this world' production but enjoyable.
4. The music in the Dome was fantastic, especially Feisty, Shigeki and Mandy. Thanks guys/girls.
5. There were plenty of dark corners in the Dome (I for one used at least a couple), plus plenty of boys weren't just dancing on the dancefloor...
6. The stretch between the Dome and Forum is only very short and no trouble at all to walk uncovered. The two 'smoking tents', with heaters, seemed used all night and no doubt needed to remain open walled in order that people could smoke in there (unlike, say, a tunnel).
7. The Forum was, unfortunately, a glorified coat check. Whilst it was great to have music and comfy atmosphere in which to wait or check a coat, the venue was underutilised all night.
8. Yes, the general public ticket price was $120 which may seem a bit steep. But remember that SLPA does skew ticket prices more for the benefit of members and kindred organisations. As a member (with no affiliation whatsoever with the Board, I might add) my ticket was only $85 which I felt was reasonable and offered good value for money for the event, especially considering it underwrites a small community organisation that also runs education forums, etc.
9. As always, a lovely crowd - friendly, mixed and welcoming. I had a couple of people with me who'd never been to an Inquisition before but are Mardi Gras and Sleaze regulars and they enjoyed it immensely.
I guess if high-end production values are your vibe, this might not be a party you'd enjoy. But for a great crowd, welcoming leather/fetish atmosphere, dark but still accessible music and an event with a proud history and community spirit, I enjoy Inquisition every year.
I found the interior of the Inq08 venues warm with hot spots and cooler spots in both. The outdoor teepees were not the big white tent as expected but still very cosy and a welcome dry spot between the rain drizzle. It only really had a big rain once all night - which is pretty usual for the time of year.
Really, if this party was held at a truly warm time of year we would not be able to get out the formals. Ok so I bought a new shrug for the night but my friends will get it see it over and over this wintery season.
I had fun. Best bit was seeing the venues flipped around (after the music and the people that is).
Happy
Inquistion sounds quite good but didn't hit the mark with some people. I do hope SLPA made a surplus. I wasn't there so can only make general coments. Reducing overheads will be important + reducing ticket costs. The whole point of Inquisition is the alternative/fetish focus. Dark lighting and music are part of that. Having two venues is great but perhaps not essential. A special venue is certainly required. A club won't work. The Dome has a real resonance. I love it and other people do too. Would that be sufficient? It's bad luck to have two such cold, wet Queen's Birthday weekends in a row. The weather isn't a problem with just one hall. I would promote leather/fetish shows/activities to compensate for the lack of two halls. People still talk years afterwards of the man squirming through a tennis raquet. Shows will make the event special and justify an $80 fee for non-members in just the Dome. These are just my thoughts.
I am one of the ones who talks about the tennis racket and the guy. If you were in the audience you would have seen/felt the reaction.
Remember the meat lockers in Dome and one MG party they had fetish shows.
I think it would be great to have those shows back. Doesnt have to be on stage. Remember the girl tied to a pole and carted around the Hordern singing out help
That particular party has given me memories I will never forget about a Party. One of the better ones in the Hordern.
Now its just music which as a lot point out you can get in Oxford St at anytime. I do enjoy the different venue like you Paul D and Dome is great as can be The Forum depending on lighting it not too bright.
SLPA will no doubt be rethinking the whole party thing over and I would like it if they introduced shows. I am sure there are quite a few "performers" happy to do it free in front of an audience
Pity we just cant take over something like Kinselas for the night. Bar downstairs, outside area for smokers and upstairs for dancing.
Pity something like Home is not in Oxford St and take over all of it etc.
In the rags this week there is a notice that the building owner of the newtown hotel is making an application for a licence.....
I wonder what effect that has on the ongoing mediation between the owner and McHugh.
Any thoughts on if the application is successful whether the owners would reopen as a Gay venue and if the community would support these guys considering how they shut McHugh out with next to no notice?
Thank you to (New) Mardi Gras for the great party tonight at the Shift.
It was warm, friendly, fun, sexy, and inviting. And what a way to 'come in from the cold'!
We were wined and nibbled and dj'd and entertained, and the Theme for Sleaze Ball 2008 was revealed (and what an appropriately dirty one it is).
I shall leave it to the Press or NMG to announce it.
Here's to many more of these intimate soirees where the Establishment connect with the rank & file
And finally, I'll be making a suggestion to their new "hotline" email address (bubble@mardigras.org.au I think) - isn't it time the "New" was dropped from NMG?
Hi there,
Here’s a quickie update about what’s on at The Hellfire Club this Friday:
The music will transport you to a filthy world of dirty dancing, thanks to our resident DJs Mandy Rollins, Lanny K and Miss Yetti; who’ll be joined in the very late hours by a special visiting Brisvegas guest in the form of DJ Tokoloshe, who has appeared many times at Hellfire with his band Bang Bang Club. He’ll serve as the musical equivalent of another can of Red Bull – helping keep you on the dancefloor way past your bedtime.
Show-wise there’s a Girlfight from Kiss Kill Cabaret starring the delectable Miss Diamond and the ravishing Ruby Riot, while at 1.30am you’ll meet Wife with her unique take on domestic torture. You can check out pics and further info on all these performers on our blog at http://www.hellfiresydney.com/blog
Plus there’s the Wicked Doll Transformations Parlour for serious genderfunk, the monthly $100 SAX Fetish Voucher to be won for DIY outfits (thanks Wayne!) and too many fun fetish freaks to have in one day. We hope to see you this Friday night!
Cheers
Master Tom

IT’S THE BAD GUYS WHO HAVE ALL THE FUN AT SLEAZE BALL 2008 – THE VILLAIN’S DEN
David Imrie, Chair of New Mardi Gras (NMG), announced on Saturday the theme for this year’s Sleaze Ball at a function for NMG members.
Recognising the simple fact that it’s the bad guy who has the most fun NMG will be bringing together thousands of evil geniuses, scoundrels, deviants and monstrous freaks of nature on 4th October for Sleaze Ball 2008 – The Villain’s Den.
Maybe you grew up feeling you were different from the other kids? Perhaps they didn’t understand your unique talents? It’s sometimes tough being different and the only way to deal with it is by destroying anyone who gets in your way. For anyone who has dreamt of world domination this will be the party of a lifetime.
From the Joker to Agent Smith and from Catwoman to Agent Spalko the Entertainment Quarter will be populated by some of the most colourful characters ever conceived.
“Last year’s Zirkus party was a real milestone in putting Sleaze Ball back on its pedestal as Sydney’s dress up night of the year,” said Imrie. “The creative opportunities opened up by this year’s theme The Villain’s Den are immense. I can’t wait to see what people come up with.”
“There’s been a lot of speculation about this year’s theme. It’s nice to see the community fully engaged in what we are doing,” said Imrie.
After the enormous acclaim given to Zirkus and the sell-out Mardi Gras Party NMG has high hopes that Sleaze Ball will sell out this year.
“Mardi Gras is a huge party and it’s an enormous credit to the team that we managed to sell out,” said Imrie. “I think the local community was reminded just how much it values our parties and I am confident that by September Sleaze Ball is going to be seen as the golden ticket as we head into summer.”
Glen Hanson, who created the iconic posters for Ghetto Fabulous and Zirkus will be creating the artwork again this year, realising a unique trilogy of Sleaze Ball posters.
“It’s wonderful to be working with Glen again”, said Damien Eames, Head of Brand and Creative Strategy at NMG. “His unique style has contributed greatly to creating a distinctive Sleaze Ball brand. It’s all about the style and the attitude and fits perfectly with our aim to make this Australia’s pre-eminent costume party.”
Last year’s successful costume competition Project Sleazeway will again be a big feature of the party.
“Last year was really a bit of a trial run for Project Sleazeway,” said Eames. “Despite only having about four week’s notice of the competition around seventy people ended up strutting their stuff on the runway in the forecourt. It brought a big injection of colour and creativity into the party. This year we will really take it up a level.”
Details of this year’s Project Sleazeway will be available before the end of June.
The full line up for the party, ticket prices and on-sale date will also be announced in the coming weeks.
Was at ARQ saturday night and it was so refreshing to see one of the security guards crack down on drug taking. I witnessed the guard constantly shine a torch into dark corners asking people to show him what was in their hands. I saw two guys get caught with something illegal in their hands then escorted out. Plus any drink bottle not sold at Arq he would confiscate out of back pockets, sniff and pour the content on the floor. Think we have had it too easy to long. Take care everyone.
Shows how much you know about Spiderman. I'd suggest you go and read up on some Marvel history and in particular the suit that he's wearing before you start your nit picking activities. honestly. what is wrong with our community and the incessent need to criticise...
"To correct the record - Spiderman is one of the good guys."
You obviously didn't see Spider Man 3. Synopsis below for you...
In Spider-Man 3, based on the legendary Marvel Comics series, Peter Parker has finally managed to strike a balance between his devotion to M.J. and his duties as a superhero. But there is a storm brewing on the horizon. When his suit suddenly changes, turning jet-black and enhancing his powers, it transforms Peter as well, bringing out the dark, vengeful side of his personality that he is struggling to control.
Wow I remember the last Frisky in October 2002, there were hardly any punters there because it was the night of the first Queer Nation and all the good DJ's were playing at Home nightclub.
My bf and I lasted from 8:30pm to 10pm at Frisky and fled the boredom; buying QN tix at the door.
Frisky may return but I'm sure all the punters from that era have well and truly moved on/retired from the circuit.
The first Spiderman comic "Amazing Spiderman" came out around about 1962
Spiderman has ALWAYS been the good guy from then until now , EXCEPT for a small period of time in the marvel universe where he was infected with a sickness that created the evil black suit
Therefore I would contend that while of sound mind Spiderman has always been a good guy.
But look at the suit the character is wearing in the shot of the advertisement clip. That's the state of mind the clip is conveying, and therefore should be seen as a villain.
Interesting video. I hope they don't get sued for copyright infringement. I would have got a bunch of artists, mainly tattoists, to do there versions of the villians to avoid and trouble. Should be a great party.

Wow if Toybox crew put on a Luminere party @ Luna Park on Sun Oct 5, 12noon-8pm, then we could all go straight to Metro for Frisky afterwards - what a trancey weekend that would be. I'd be in Trance Heaven.
Bring it on!!!

I am now living in Europe, but I think for my favourite party of all time...my beloved Frisky...I'll come back to Sydney for a visit. The thought of walking up the Metro stairs for another Frisky is simply AWESOME. I hope to see a lot of my partners in crime from old Frisky days.
There are lots of good AV tech's in the community - without blowing my own trumpet too much, I was great one before I switched to producing events, however I still deal with a lot of AV suppliers and contractors.
A good AV tech gets paid a good hourly rate and unfortunately some promoters, venues and community groups don't have budgets or just refuse to pay industry rates or try to get discounted rates or freebies.
The problem is that AV techs make their income from events and have to pay all the same bills as everyone else and there comes a time where they just cant discount/offer free services any more.
You only have to look at a lot of venues and events to see that a lot of the AV guys who we used to see around the scene have moved on to higher paying gigs.
The end result is that we go to some events which have sub standard production standards yet we still pay top dollar for tickets/entry and drinks.
My monumental battle with Radio 2UE and its presenters Steve Price and John Laws has finally come to an end.
This case has nearly gone on as long as the Second World War.
I instigated this action way back in 2003 because I was tired of my sexuality being used as a football for ridicule by the intolerable folk.
I am a gay man.
Gay men should not mirror the image as perverted and dirty in society through ridicule.
I have always cared about my community but feel very sad that my community abandoned me during this litigation.
The cheersquad enthusiasts were always there ready to knock me and accuse me of doing this for either publicity or for mercenary gain.
What I did was fucking hard and lonely work!
This has been the hardest thing I have ever done so far in my life, but you know what, at least I had the courage to go out and do something to try and stop intolerance and hate being directed against homosexual men.
The young gay boy living in the western suburbs may feel a little better about his sexuality because of what I have done.
He may not become a product of ridicule because of it.
ust Googled Frisky party and this is what I got...Can I expect this in October?
What is a FRISKY Party?
It's an Adult Novelty Toy Party...it's the Tupperware party of the millennium. This
party is held in the convenience of your home where your family and friends get the
chance to have the time of there (sic) life.
Do yourselves a favour and get the new Cyndi Lauper album - Bring Ya To The Brink.
It's a great dance album and features the first song she sang at the Mardi Gras finale, Same Ol' Fucking Story, which has just reached #1 on the American Billboard Dance Chart. And we got to see her sing it live in the RHI!
Have been listening to the CD all weekend and can't believe how fantastic it is!
At The Hellfire Club, we wanted to have a Spring fetish party with a difference... so of course we thought “Harbour Cruise” - and have spent many weeks scouring the seven seas for a suitable vessel for such sinful purposes.
At last we have found her, a seriously sexy ship that’s crying out to be deflowered by all our fine fetish friends. Here’s the details:
Ahoy me hearties, avast, shiver me timbers and all those other cliches... It’s time to find your inner pirate, perverted-style as The Hellfire Club weighs anchor and sails off full of seamen, seawomen, seatransgrrls, scurvy swabs, barrel boys and all other points of the sexual compass for our first-ever Hellfire Afloat!
Sydney Harbour won’t have witnessed such decadence and debauchery below decks since the orgy that was held on the night of the founding of this fair colony.
So it’s all aboard the three-deck mega-cat cruiser - with space for up to 500 – as the beautiful backdrop of harbour lights and sights set the scene for a dance and play party you’ll remember forever.
Imagine nautical knot-trying for some maritime masochism whilst gliding under the coathanger, or whipping your shipmates while cruising by the Opera House... wave at St. Kevin as your ass gets paddled on the way past Kirribilli House... have your nipples tortured in Neutral Bay... the pervy possibilities are endless!
There’ll be DJs Sveta and Mandy Rollins and dancefloor and play equipment and cloakroom and bars and shows and all the other facilities you’ve come to expect from The Hellfire Club – just floating as free as the ocean breeze, a short swim from Sydney but a million miles away....
So what better way to celebrate the arrival of Spring than by setting sail with us on Saturday the 6th of September at 8:45pm (for a 9:00pm embarkation) at Star City Casino Wharf, Pirrama Road Pyrmont, where there’s plenty of parking and lots of taxis too.

this is a shocker. I've also checked te Metro website and there are concerts at that venue all of the October long weekend, seems like the only place Frisky is happening is on this party board. SHAME
After being arrested for drug possession when found unconscious in a Sydney harbourside park, Dancing With The Stars judge Todd Andrew McKenney allegedly told police he had literally been caught with his pants down at a party by someone who had planted the drugs.
The "pants down defence" is contained in a statement by McKenney to Kings Cross Police and is expected to be used in his pending court hearing in which he has pleaded not guilty to a charge of possessing the potentially lethal date-rape drug gamma-hydroxybutyrate, otherwise known as "fantasy", GHB or GBH.
The 43-year-old musical theatre veteran, who has starred in productions such as The Boy From Oz, was found unconscious by Kings Cross police in Rushcutters Bay Park on Anzac Day.
Police went to the park at 3.20pm on April 25, with ambulance officers, who had to revive the Bondi performer.
Police allegedly asked McKenney how he came to be in such a state and discovered a small quantity of the drug in a trouser pocket.
When he saw the drug McKenney allegedly told police he recognised it to be GHB, but emphatically denied ownership or using it.
Later in his record of interview McKenney told police he had been to a party at an apartment in Macleay Street, Potts Point, on Anzac Day eve and had danced so much that he began to overheat and had taken his pants off to continue dancing.
McKenney, who has pleaded not guilty to the charge and has been on police bail, allegedly told arresting officers that it was while his pants were down that someone at the party must have put the drug into his pocket.
The charge was laid under section 10(1) of the Drug Misuse and Trafficking Act.
McKenney was excused from attending the Downing Centre Local Court last Friday when the case was listed for mention before magistrate Julie Huber. He entered the formal not guilty plea through his lawyer John North.
He has been excused from appearing before the court on September 26 for a pretrial mention of the charge.
His lawyer had already filed a list with the court requiring 11 witnesses - five civilians including singer Peta Webb and six police officers.
But McKenney must attend the two-day trial, which is set to begin on October 15.
Since McKenney's drug arrest was revealed last April the entertainer and FM radio host, has publicly defended himself, saying that he had been the victim of drink spiking and "tall poppy syndrome" envy by someone who wanted to bring him down.
The park arrest came almost three weeks after McKenney was banned from driving for three months and fined $375 after pleading guilty in a Sydney court to drink-driving.
He blew a reading of .05 after being pulled over on George Street in the Sydney CBD just before 11pm after police noticed he was driving with his headlights turned off.
In June last year he became a proud parent after agreeing to IVF with friend of 22 years, Anne Wood.
McKenney grinned and told the Herald today: "You know I can't comment because it's before the courts."

I was looking thru some old pinkboard walls the other day and noticed that this weekend just gone marks 10 years since that famous 1st free FM dance party was held at the Metro.
Arrrr yes , very very very good times. That was such an amazing party. Sigh , if only we could have parties like that now.
But its still 100 days to Sleaze ball on JUNE 26 , so it's a typo ... at least the coloured font and the day count is correct which is the main thing afterall with our beloved countdown boy isn't it ?
Thanks everyone for the good wishes. Been busy so haven't been here this week until now. Yes, to the best of my good info, Frisky returns on the Sunday night of the long weekend.
I think it's more a sign of the slow demise in popularity of Pinkboard over the last year or so - there's nothing exciting to read on here any more. Sorry, don't mean to offend, am just stating the facts.
(I wonder if this will be allowedd to go through moderation??)
No I dont think it has anything to do with Pinkboard.
Sure there is way more competition now so you cant compare from years ago. Also I have visitied the other sites and as an overall , I much prefer Pinkboard.
If I was to go by my group of friends of the last few weeks especially those that go out everyone weekend, we have all been quiet. 2 groups have been overseas to get some warm weather. The go out every weekenders have been having dinners at each others places and generally just staying in. Also no major parties etc just a few smaller ones.
Have found winter time is generally quiet so why shouldnt Pinkboard be allowed to have a quieter time ? just you wait till Sleaze
If you mean guys looking for guys sites then sure there are more guys using those sites. I dont think you can compare those sites to Pinkboard overall.
But this is a forum/gossip section of Pinkboard and I just looked at SameSame forum and about 20 or posts since 10 June and on Party Graffitti wall we beat that by a huge margin and seeing as it seems to have the one wall we need to add in Pinkboards others Walls as well which then means Pinkboard is pounding them .
Or is there some wall I am missing ? and be noice to me if I have missed one.
I use Pinkboard for Party/Boys Graffiti Walls. The occassional massage. Sometimes have a look at personals but have never used them. Have sold tickets via Pinkboard as well. And arranged for some friends to buy tickets from a Pinkboard ad.
Yes, and she was completely off her face so perhaps we didn't hear the "real" version. How does it sound? In RHI, she just shrieked and yelled and forgot the words (and so have I).
This is outrageous. Todd would not have been charged for possession of personal quantities of GHB if he were not a well-known person. It sounds like his life is in some turmoil but that is no reason for him to be paraded before the courts. This is a case of the police presecuting him because they have the power to do so. Nasty!
I think they should definitely drag him through the courts. If he is in a bit of a messy stage of his life, then the best thing for him is to show him the consequences of breaking the law.
If you get to the stage where you're passing out in public parks, then he definitely needs help. Hopefully this will be enough to wake him up.
On one hand you think why should they be treated any different to others and why should they be in the media glare.
But if you have ever worked with some of these people (not all but quite a few and even worse when they are
A-list ) their demands, their ideas about themselves, the
yes people they surround themselves with ( think Britney ) then sometimes the only way to actually wake up to themselves is the media glare. Hopefully the
embarrassement will make him wake up to himself.
10 years! It can't be, you jest, surely! You're not that old - or are you?!
I'll now wait to hear questions, in this forum, like, "what was a free FM dance party" and "what is a metro". Answer is simple to both, I'm afraid. Gone like the dodo. Yes, we still have dance parties, and yes, the Metro is still there - however back in those days, the drugs weren't angry, there was a sense of community and those parties (Free FM, Frisky, et al) were celebrations of who we were. Now, people sneer rather than smile, complain rather than give a hand and venues that take our bookings take them for the pink dollar and all it's worth, and give little back.
Where have those parties gone, indeed?
Personally I think the parties were the people that attended. Unfortunately, the "altered states" people go to them in, now, is a state of self absorbtion. And woe betide any promoter who gets it wrong!
Support, rather than bag. Enjoy, rather than looking for points to pick fault at. Dance like nobody's watching etc etc. It's supposed to be about fun - and as my mum always said, "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all".
"Yes, and she was completely off her face so perhaps we didn't hear the "real" version. How does it sound? In RHI, she just shrieked and yelled and forgot the words (and so have I)."
Her or you?
I think there were some sound problems on the night as a couple of times you could see her get frustrated that the volume dropped out.
"the poster said "if".So he is not being judged guilty or not guilty.Try and read properly next time."
Please climb off you high horse.
The overall tone of the original post was making an assumption that he is guilty. To use the term "if" is just a convenient fall back to cover your ass if you are mistaken.
Your quote "try and read properly next time" also comes across as a cheap back handed swipe. The sort of thing pinkboard should be discouraging rather than publishing in my opinion.
This is outrageous. Todd would not have been charged for possession of personal quantities of GHB if he were not a well-known person.
Um...no. It happends all the time. a friend of mine was pulled up and charged for havng a pill in his bag (long forgotten) when a random sniffer dog pulled him up at KCross station after work at 6pm. We need to remember what we take for granted as normal, is actually illegal. todd (and anyone else) would definately be charged for personal quantities of GHB, a dangerous drug that is contributing greatly to the demise of the gay scene. tough luck. And the only reason he got caught was because he was behaving in a manner that was dangerous to himself and possibly others.
what other word do you use ? If is actually used in case we are mistaken.
As for pinkboard discouraging posters I fail to see the merits in your cheap postings.
So if you dont like the word "if" suggest another one and do not start off with holy than though....you think those words are not the words of a smart arse ?
"i love it - the mardi gras episode of kathy griffin's my life on the d-list is live! it's got great mardi gras footage! love it."
Agree. Just watched the whole episode (season 4, episode 3) and it's one fantastic advertisement for Mardi Gras complete with Margaret Cho and Cyndi Lauper.
I'm not sure but I think I had my drink spiked last night at a straight club.
I was with some friends and people I didn't know and for the first time in years, I allowed someone I didn't know to buy me drinks etc. I only had 3 or 4, much less than a normal social night out.
Within an hour of my last drink I began to feel ill. I was much more drowsy than usual and started to lose control of my body.
A friend got me into a cab and I was still not great when I got home. I thought I must have just gotten drunk but when I went to bed things got worse.
I found I was completely unable to move after about half an hour and began halucinating. I could feel my teeth clenching so hard it hurt but was unable to stop. This lasted for about 5 hours which is the first time I'd been able to get out of bed and to the bathroom.
Almost day later and I'm still feeling like crud and I'm wondering if something was put into one of my drinks.
I would have imagined that the spiker would have done it for their own purposes. Was anybody in the group paying any special attention to you to make you think they'd do it?
I don't think people spike drinks just for the hell of it and let you get a cab home (courtesy of your mate/s)
I need some suggestions please. Coming from the States; been to Sydney several times before, but always at MG. Business brings me in August and wonder what and where would be the best night out Aug 8 or 9 before I have to head back. Not young anymore, but not that old (at least in my head). Thanks.
My understanding of drink spiking is that most of the perps are opportunistic - that is they do the deed to get something out of, or from you. Sounds like, if in fact you were spiked, the perp didn't achieve their aim.
You say you started to feel ill within an hour of your last drink - does that mean you stayed in the venue for over an hour without having a drink? Were you drinking things you normally drink? Had you eaten prior to drinking? How is your general health - have you had the flu, cough or cold - how's your temperature been? There are so many variables. And, while I'm not saying it didn't happen, it's unbelievable to think that someone spent money or effort upon a prank they didn't "profit" from.
Another response to your post mentioned the decreased threshold accepted for binge drinking - from your description 3 or 4 is within your "normal" intake limit - however you didn't mention the time it took you to consume those drinks - if it was 5 minutes, could be it! Another poster suggested "research" suggests most people who think they were spiked were in fact just drunk. I'm always sceptical of that ubiquitious "research" without referencing it. Research from NDARC has suggested few people (I don't remember the number so don't quote me!)who experience what they thought was a spike, wasn't .....
But to your question - what should you do about it? Just about all you can do now is learn from the experience. Ask yourself why someone was paying that attention to you. Are you a target? What can you do to protect yourself? Apart from this, there isn't really any action you can take. As for feeling "like crud". If you are still concerned, go see your doctor. Get checked out. They prolly won't be able to detect any untoward chemicals you may have been slipped - but if you have another illness that caused your symptoms (eg cough, cold, flu etc), there may be something they can help you with.
One thing to learn, though - and it's a bit of a paradox ... don't cut yourself off from the kindness of others, but be aware when people are paying undue or particular attention to you - and guard against this sort of thing happening again.
its winter here and Melbourne can be pretty cold. Sydney
still has the smaller parties going mainly at the various venues like Phoenix/Shift etc.
Melbourne probably has more but maybe a Melbourne person can answer that ?
Otherwise if you head North like Brisbane or Cairns then there are some bars but thats about it but at least
it tends to be warmer in Brisbane and certainly much
warmer in Cairns.
Read the online versions of Sydney Star Observer and SX
News and hopefully you will see some ads for parties.
Or just keep reading good old Pinkboard as the boys get
on here to chat about parties.
We are all in a bit of hibernation at the moment so no big parties or even medium sized ones, just the ones that take over a venue for the night.
County Boy - Forget about all the naysayers , completely ignore them and keep on doing EXACTLY what you do. You've been here forever making huge contributions to this wall, what have the whiners contributed except their whining ?

That bottle of wine pic is waay too big for this board IMO....couldn't you have resized it down a bit?....and I think a red would have been far more appropriate considering the season we're in.
Of course there isnt going to be a Toybox. It was widely accepted that the mardi gras Toybox was the last one with the sad passing of one of the organisers months before.
MOVE ON everyone. just thank God for a Frsiky party on that weekend to take the place of Toybox. Pretty much the same type of event in my opinion
However I don't quite understand how a night that was promoted with a Tom of Finland (sort of) drawing of a hairy male biker came to be filled with a predominately Lesbian/ alternate crowd?
Not that there is anything wrong with that but some of us guys thought it was being promoted as a mens leather bar/club so it was a bit of a disappointment!
maybe lesbians like tom of finland. who cares?!! if you'd bothered to read the blurb, you'd realise it was a mixed event, not a men only event or a mainly men event, or a strictly leather event. i and my friends (all of us men) didnt mind one bit. good luck guys - nice to see someone put themselves out there and contribute to the scene we all like to complain about.
nb i wear my leathers wherever i feel like it.
I remember when I first started going to dance parties and all the guys were in skimpy shorts. Me and my friend just were the only ones in regular jean shorts. Within two years the skimpy shorts were gone!
Yeah I have pics of friends and self in those skimpy shorts and just shudder ! and glad they didnt last long but then again thats fashion.
Now its comfort comfort comfort so cargoes and shirt and thats it.
Just the one type of music and if you didnt like the DJ then we just wondered, sat in the bleachers or outside and chatted and then came back in when the next DJ started.
One of the first times I really remember a change coming in with music was at Alexandria Basketball stadium and some DJ put on a party and he also DJ'd ( cant think of his name ) and it was something like New York Garage ?
party. We were getting used to the music getting faster and this was real underground house type music and we didnt like it and a lot of others were the same . In those days complained in a letter to SSO ! and then not long after the parties started having different styles of music.............
so you were the leatherman leaving hurriedly when we got there?
There was no 'female' advert. A lot of the nights in the wee bar down there are very mixed. Shame you didn't like it as it was rather fun with a very friendly crowd.
Most dance music was all much of a muchness up until about 1992 - thats when techno (and I mean real techno) music started. Stuff like "james brown is dead" and "Oh-Fortunia" and "Jump" by "The Movement". There was also that awful Seseme Street rip off and most will also believe that on the more commercial side of techno that the group "2-Unlimited" lead the way on the pop charts.
The advent of techno music pushed boundaries that hadnt been pushed before in dance music (ie the speed of music Beats per minute wise increased significantly. Rarely pre 1992 was dance music much faster than 135bpm. Techno pushed music into the 140+ Bpm bracket and sometimes well beyond.
The advent of faster music co-incides with the hugely growing popularity of amphetimines at the time.
Trance music as we know it today is a spin off from the days of techno music.
We have so many types of dance music now that it's all too confusing for me. I yearn for the days of pre 1993 when life was more simpler and society wasn't so conservative and stuffy like it is today.
The ageist attitude from some writers is regrettable. Rather than tear down the older guys for wanting to boogie at their own party as they did in the past, Frisky should be supported. Just because part of the commununity in their 50s and 60s wanna stay on the dancefloor a little bit beyond retirement should not bring criticism. Young guys should support it. We might learn something.
and before you think old fart, my group of friends who still go to the main parties range from mid 30's and up.
They were only around 20 when they started going to those early 90's parties.
Capella. The 49ers. And S'Express!! "I got the hots for you, boo booboo ba baba ah ah...!"
Nothing wrong with reminiscing. These tunes invoke fond memories of when I used to go out for the first time. Climbing out of my bedroom window after my folks had gone to sleep to nick up to the Balmain Town Hall. And the first RAT parties I went to after telling selfsame folks I was "staying at a friends' place". Several thousand friends, more like.
I'm hopeful that when the current young'uns are twenty years older (and it WILL happen, kids) the generation following you will listen to your tales of bopping along to Junior Vasquez with interest, tact and without a whiff of ageism. It can be done. I've seen it
Currently listening to: Numero Uno - Who sang that, anyway?
" Everything starts with an E " loved all those mental
type songs/hard beats.
And what about that time in the 90's at Alexandria Basketball Stadium they had that laser drawing things ?
seem to remember the USS Enterprise, a winged horse and many other things it did during the night and cant
remember seeing that done again ?
anyone go to shine at the shift on saturday night? the place was absolutely packed. jumping by midnight! the production was pretty fantastic too... brilliant lasers and these huge!!!!!! giant faces mounted to the wall that came alive through the night. the animations were awesome - very very trippy.
well done crew - to ruby, matt and steven for great music - damon for the sound and adam with the lasers.
Well I luv being 51 and I still luv to stick it up (dance), with mothers little helpers of course. Age is just a number anyway, if you look after your mind and your body you can go on for as long as you want. The young ones will be become old too one day if they are not foolish or unlucky.
I went to to Shine & it was the best night I have ever had at the Shift. I'd forgtotten about the faces with the eyes that came on & off until I read your post ! I couldn't belive how full it was when we got there - loved everything about it - YAY
i went to arq on sat night, and had an amazing time! i dont know why people complain about that place, its still as awesome as ever! then onto phoenix (god) which was just as mad! massive weekend, but no regrets!! (Just thankful i had monday off!)
Advice please.
We are heading down to Melbourne for the Beyond party next week. We have been before but not for a few years. There used to be a seperate Recovery after Beyond but apparently this is no longer the case.
Are there any recovery options ,does Melbourne have a dayclub like Sydneys 'Rising'??
Been loving Ruby for years and Saturday felt like a mini toy box with the friendly crowd and production but I'm sad to finally admit that the small gang of Dj's seem to live in their own little world of trance where they wont let anything new in. It was great to dance to the fun classics for the opening set (very tox box). I expected a little bit different from RUBY, and I was hoping Stephen would have some new stuff in his box , but no! Its the same every time. There is so much beautiful trance out at the moment. It's a shame I wont get to dance to it whilst im out.
Fantastic night though, and will continue to support the ruby parties.
"Fantastic night though, and will continue to support the ruby parties"
first you say what you didnt like about the night and then you say you will support it anyway. do you really expect something to change with this kind of thinking?
You obviously can't see how run-down the place is. Apart from that, the security is awful. I am comparing this to the security that was there last year. The whole thing needs a makeover (staff, venue, and some patrons should not be let in!). So until that place changes, looks like my weekends are free and you know what, that's actually quite alright.
so did the next indulgence line up. someone will be flown from o/s + two locals. and no, no one from melbourne.
i think sydney needs a fresh party to join Action, Bad Dog or similar to serve the sexy masculine crowd. indulgence is loosing its edge faaast.
Unfortunately when Stephen tried to play some new tracks there was little interest from the crowd so he had to play what they wanted or have an empty dance floor. He did, for exmaple, play Oceanlab- Miracle [Above & Beyond Club Mix] which had only been released the day before. I know he was planning to play a lot more new tracks, but what you and I want is not always what the crowd wants.
The production standards of the party were great, and the huge face masks with moving eyes were really popular. I hadn't seen the Shift that busy in ages.
Even though I didnt go and even though I'm not a trance fan even blind freddy can see that a trance night at the Shift on a regular Saturday night is the way to move forward for that Space. I would go so far as to suggest every 2nd or 3rd Saturday at the very least and fill up the gaps with as many other one off events that they can. At least it'll be open and busy 3 out of every 4 Saturdays which is a hell of a lot better than the sad situation they recently had in the weeks and months leading up to the closure of Saturday nights.
Pay attention Shift management - I think this Ruby event may just be throwing you a lifeline.
The Shift or any venue really needs to move away from the same thing happening each weekend. People just get
bored with it.
Have regular nights like say once a month is the way I think they should go. Try different styles of music like Trance, Tribal even maybe a Retro ? if not supported enough then dont do them again. Lots of other styles to
do the trial and error with as well - electro, house,
techno,hard etc.
Gauging from my group of friends , not everyone wants to party every weekend and with cost of living cant afford to do it each weekend.
With planned nights everyone can plan their partying time to be that weekend when there is a Ruby or other
music style they want.
Preferable to have it planned what 3 months in advance all the time ?
Would be way good to be able to go the something like
the Shifts website, click on calendar and then be able
to click a night to see whats on ?
"Unfortunately when Stephen tried to play some new tracks there was little interest from the crowd so he had to play what they wanted or have an empty dance floor. He did, for exmaple, play Oceanlab- Miracle [Above & Beyond Club Mix] which had only been released the day before."
Unfortunately, the Ruby and Toybox parties have become synonymous with old "classic" trance. The people who go to them are expecting to hear the same tracks that they have been hearing at these parties for the last 6-8 yrs. A lot of the people I know who are into the newer stuff don't bother with these parties anymore, so what do you expect? These people want to hear tracks like "Embrace" and "Summer Rain", not tracks that were released a day beforehand! You'd be better off waiting until one of the big name trance DJs (e.g. AVB, Ferry Corsten, Tiesto) come into town. Sure, the straight crowd can be a bit feral, but it's worth braving it for the music....
If you want to hear new music (not trance though) then head down to ACTION this Saturday night at the Phoenix. Djs include Alan Thompson (deep techy set), John Devecchis and first timer at the Phoenix Carlos Zarate.
ACTION is the perfect place to let off some steam after a day on the SayNoToPope rally and demo starting at 12pm, Taylor Square.
I think you'll find there was quite a bit of newer trance in Ruby and Stephen's set and the place was still jumping at 6am. The party didn't shut until 7am - which meant it ran for the whole eight hours.
I was amazed at how full the place was when I got there at 12:30. The dance floor was full and the place was going off. Who was the opening DJ? Matt someone? Anyway, his music was great (yes, very Toybox, but it worked and got people jumping) and Ruby picked up immediately where he left off. Fab set from Ruby too.
Stephen's set was a cracker. I agree with the poster above who said you can't just play new stuff. The punters vote with their feet. Fags are fickle...
OMG I almost died when Stephen played Oceanlab - Miracle!! and YES it was only released the day before. (I did go and say thank you) I agree, the classics and familiar tracks is what the crowd wants. I just wanted to have a litte feedback on this board. Although I did have a bit of negative feedback I still will support the style of music I love.
I loved hearing my old favs like, Olive - Outlaw, Nitromethane - Religion, Masters & Nickson - 5th Dimension and heaps more. Really miss the old themed parties and I really hope that RUBY can hold a regular night at the shift!
So i been told they have no more drag shows at Mr marys. Something to do with licence or something. Thats half the reason i think alot of people, myself included (well not that there were that many), went there! If it loses that crowd, i hope its not a sign of anything to come. Not that a place needs drag shows, but when they helped get people in the door. I hope there is no demise to my local, couldnt bare another gay place to go by the wayside. Ill have to go for a drink and see whats the go
Surely if it's a license issue, some leniency could be shown by the city council and allow them to trade while the problem is sorted out. Afterall we allegedly have a gay friendly council, don't we?
NMG has NOT announced any of the DJs for Sleaze Ball 2008, The Villain's Lair, let alone the headliners. Don't pay too much attention to "news" being circulated about NMG and our events unless that news comes from us. First it was the theme, and now it's the DJs...
Melbourne isn't as "24 hour" as Sydney so there's not too much choice. A place behind Prahran market called The Motel has hosted recovery day parties (after dance parties) in the past but not sure they still have them. Good vibe there when I went, although the outdoor main deck is brutal on the eyes
You would think they would show some leniency, but then again look re the Imperial?
Shame, we used to go there for a drink and to see the shows..wonder how the pub will go with out them? I think not too well.
Its a shame that venues keep opening out in the suburbs and then they seem to have troubles.
Maybe I am wrong but if people have the money to buy/open a place why not back in Oxford St or King St ?
We all complain how we are loosing Oxford St but would it make a difference if they bought out some of the straight bars ? and turned them into gay bars ?
Eventually ( hopefully ) we could get back the Streets ?
Having 1 or 2 bars in the one suburb costs people $'s in transport whereas if these business people could get together with a 5 or 10 year plan of eventually buying back some bars as these straight bars seem to change hands often would hopefully concentrate them back into the one area ?
The above posting in my opinion is just a little bit naive and also a little bit silly.
Why should Sydney be confined to only having gay venues on Oxford Street and King Street.
So what if it costs "$'s in transport" to go to suburbs where there may be only 1 or 2 gay bars. If the venue is worth visiting people will go regardless of where it is.
Points that need to be considered -
1. Despite popular belief the majority of gays and lesbians do *NOT* live in the Darlinghust / Surry Hills / Newtown / Erskineville areas. That particular line of thinking is extremely narrow minded. More gay and lesbian people actually live in the greater suburban areas of this city.
2. Let us look at Melbourne as a comparison. Gay and Lesbian venues are scattered all over the place and if you want to do a good selection of Melbourne clubs in a night you may find yourself in a cab two or three times a night.
Why should gay Sydney be restricted to a very old tired run down and now very unsecure area of Sydney to socialise in. All this notion of "lets take back Oxford Street" is a load of rubbish. No particular community group has a God given right to "own" any street anywhere anytime
Don't you just love the way those in the City and those in the suburbs argue.
Not being a club goer for over a decade, I read about venues opening in the suburbs but within a few years they seem to go under.
Then you read about all the complaints about Oxford St being unsafe with all the straight venues opening.
So what is the answer ?
Spread out all over ?
Regroup in Oxford St and King St.
While you say its a load of rubbish and that no particular group has a God given right then explain why is that Kings Cross attracts a certain crowd ? why The Rocks attracts a certain crowd ? and so on.
They gay scene has its roots , its beginnings in the
Oxford St area. Just because Melbourne is spread doesnt mean Sydney should as well. A lot of cities in the world have their gay scene in one local area. Have you been to London ? most of the gay bars/venues in New York are in the lower part of Manhattan, San Francisco etc, Los Angeles.
I think Oxford St is just as famous as Castro St in
San Francisco. Should we give it up ?
Is their strength in numbers when the bars are in the same general area.
I dont think everything should be in Oxford St. Sure its nice to have a pub/bar in your local area but thats all there is 1 venue.
I enjoyed my time doing Oxford St. My group met up and had dinner and the restaurant was gay friendly, no brows raised if people of the same sex hugged or kissed. Then we would walk to a bar for a drink or two, then hit one of the nightclubs. After that usually met at a cafe for a coffee and again it was gay friendly etc.
Now that I live in the burbs there is not a chance in hell of us two guys having a hug or a kiss or hold hands in our local restaurants etc. The one gay'ish bar disappeared long ago.
But when in Oxford St its not a problem. Sure I have read of people having trouble in Oxford St as well but when inside the venues/restaurants/cafes its never been
a problem so.
Whats the answer ? well you can bet the two parties will never agree but I just see the venues in the suburbs never seem to last long no matter how much people praise the opening of one.
The Motel is in south melbourne and it was only used for the odd recovery party for the now defunct raw hide parties.
the last one i went to on nyd there was no running water and it was 40 degrees. that was more brutal than that out door deck!
there isnt really anywhere to go after the market shuts. but i'll be hosting a party at my house - it goes all day long
Pre-sales tx are on sale $25(video bar) for this Saturday's 27Birthday celebration. Flying in this week is DJ Mike Cruz(NY)spinning with Murray Hood from 11pm. There is also a special live performance from Ray Isaac.
Happy Birthday and wishing for more birthdays to come.
every city in the world has a gay area, a sleaze area,
straight bars etc.
I'm not sure what the answer is on this subject but as per other posters anything that does open in the burbs never seems to last long.
Buying out the straight venues as they become available in Oxford St does mean less straights coming to the area if their club is closed and police/security can consolidate themselves in those areas. It wont be totally gay, there has always been straight venues on Oxford St.
I do like the option of restaurants and cafes in the same area as the venues especially as someone said those cafes and restaurants are gay friendly/tolerant. Shops aimed at the gay market etc. Something that doesnt happen too much in the burbs.
And before you go on about the very tired run down area thing - name an area that isnt run down where clubs are involved ?
And before you go on about the very unsecure aera - name
an area in Sydney (within reason ) that is secure ? even
the straight areas have this same trouble. Its todays society that react this way and its aimed at anyone regardless of sexuality.
I'm not harping about the good old days but then in the good old days, there were never that many straight venues on Oxford St. The trouble only began when they started opening. In the good old days you just got the hoons driving up and down etc shouting their abuse but they didnt have the guts to get out of their cars nor the need to walk up Oxford St as no venues for them but now they do and the mix just doesnt work at times.
Do you think that by opening a venue in the burbs is going to be safer ? I think not.
Maybe with more gay venues opening in Oxford St with more security etc they can look out for each other and be on the look out for trouble.
I remember my very early days going to Tropicana ? wasnt it that eventually became the Shift ? or was it Flo's ?
think it was Tropicana but correct me if I'm wrong.
The building that housed Flo's nightclub which closed down mid 80's is currently the sex on premises venue that is a few doors up from the Shift (was formally known as The Den).
or that one down near where Verona Cinemas are....
Club 81 ? or Signals ?
I had just moved to Sydney and when we got drunk we headed off to there and it really opened my eyes to peoples kinks !
Little twinks wondering around all the corridors and rooms with eyes wide open , hand to mouth at times in
surprised shock/look at seeing someone doing something. Now I dont even bat an eyelid at the things I see old crone that I am.
I remember somone posting ages ago about how it would be good to take over T2, Courthouse pub, even Kinselas and turn them into gay venues. Security would be able to do a
good job in that area. Never liked the spreading out of the venues.
We are now at the point where we just enjoy doing the parties. Once you have partied at the Hordern and/or RHI its just too hard to go back to a small venue/dance floor ( well for us anyway ). Besides who has the $'s to spend like that nowadays ? although now I pay $60 per month for a gym to lose weight whereas back then never
had to go near a gym as partied off the fat every 2nd
weekend but then again how far would $60 get you on a night out now ?
Mardi Gras 09 is on March 7 Tue 22 Jul 2008 14:38:35
Didn't you read the previous disclaimer by the Chair of NMG?
Don't pay too much attention to "news" being circulated about NMG and our events unless that news comes from us. David Imrie - Chair, NMG - Sat 19 Jul 2008 15:52:59
its still 1 month out from there event so makes no difference, if they did it a week before then that isnt a good sign. i for one will be getting online at 1pm tomorrow to buy mine.
Yes but once again it is on a graveyard night (one with no straight events happening) so the patronage will be far lower than it would have been on a Friday or Saturday night or even daytime Sunday.
According to JoJo and the Facebook event page http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=24604981807
it is on the Sunday night. I suppose he is using Facebook to help judge how much excitement there is for a Frisky reunion and so how much money he wants to risk on production. Party costs have gone up in the last few years. There still should be great production and styling to the event. Very much looking forward to it.

So i been told tickets for Diva this year sold out before they were released on public sale? What the???? Looks like this year i wont be going to support the drag community. I know a few people pissed off because of the same reason. Whats going on....never mind i dont want to know.
United Colors of Trance @ ARQ Friday 1st of August
Evolve & Samesame.com.au present
UNITED COLOURS OF TRANCE : Friday 1st of August
The United Colours of Trance - Uniting people from all trance nations dancing together
We invite you to be part of something truely special as the top local trance exponents join forces to take us on a journey through all flavours of Trance at ARQ - Sydney's temple of dance!
This is the party wall to discuss issues regarding partying. People who come on here making wise crack remarks correcting peoples grammar besides being petty are OFF topic and should not have their posts allowed.
So, to show I'm on topic, I want to know if anyone has a report from the Shift's 27th last night ?
So none of the public, like myself get to go! This is ridiculous. If the public cant get tickets to go and cheer on whoever wins, whats the point of having a voting day then? Hmmm ponders if i should go. Thanks Diva!
Harbour City Bears are pushing great frontiers with their parties. Saturday night @ phoenix was wild! Seymour Butz was amazing (welcome back!) & the footy short theme was playful AND sexy!
from what I hear the leather and lace crowd were upset at "beyond" in melbourne because the music was too girly and trance. they would have done better at the shift. pots and pans tribal music from the first d.j. (keep them off the dance floor and at the bar/make the second d.j. sound better) and the headlining american import might just as well have stuck on an american dance mix c.d. from the late 90's. and when will clubs learn that putting podiums in the middle of the dance floor only makes it look like you didn't sell enough tickets and you're trying to take up some space. eeks! a very ordinary night.

I find your post very one-sided and mostly driven by your own musical taste, which didn't seem to be shared by the rest of the people there.
I had a great time, and everyone I spoke to had a great time, and a big part of that was the music. This is the first negative opinion I've had (gotta have some, I spose).
I guess we dont! I was at the launch for DIVA and they were on stage saying that there were 400 seats for DIVA, but some of those were for 'sponsors'. Then pre sale for the drags. I wonder just how many tables were left after sponsors and drag? I did hear (not sure if true though) that they were all basically sold out very early tuesday morn. Hi...Welcome to DIVA, where us punters dont get to go! My partner and I have been to the last few and really enjoyed them, what to do this year?
I have been for 8 years and work in entertainment industry, this is the first year I my partner and I are not going. The DIVA committee should hang their heads in shame for choosing such a small venue.
Beyond was brillinat - as usual - both rooms were going off.
Lots of hot sydney boys. Woof was good - different vibe - hard to compare the two parties are like chalk and cheese really.
Apperently not! I heard they sold out the morning after the launch, days before general release. Anyway $120, Paddington Town Hall, hope it's worth it.
"Isnt that because they released more tickets. Where are they going to put them? Standing room only? LOL"
I heard they'll pack em out in the street with a large video screen out front and you get to see each award on the big screen as it gets referred to the video referee
well said! We are so lucky to have gigs like the DIVAs....these Awards are unlike anything anywhere in the world. It should also be noted that the DIVA board and judges are all volunteers, working unpaid for months and months to make this event happen. I cant wait, it will be fabulous I'm sure....
Well shall i say sorry that all i said was 'standing room only'. I have a ticket but if its at capacity...where will they put them? Thats all. I certainly wasnt bitching.
you are rubbishing the poster for...whatever that is and at the end of your post you write the most negative comment of the all "YA JUST CANT WIN"
what kind of example are you giving to that person and to all of us happy, positive pinkboarders? i think you are even more negative than the person you are reacting to. please, start with yourself before you dish it out to someone else. not just pinkboard but the whole world need more positive people.
peace to everyone and god bless you - you negative "Ya just cant win" one.
" what kind off example are you " ?
" I think you are even more negative"
so you are happy to have a negative go at me ? yet when I posted about the Diva seats think I was out of line.
Organisations just cant seem to please people but you seem to think its fine for them to assume, get on here and bitch. If they got back on here and apologised for assuming the wrong thing I may not have posted.
So " please explain" why its OK by you for posters to get on here and take the piss out of organisations yet you dont like me taking the piss out of them for being
wrong ?
I'm very excited to be going to the DIVA Awards this year. This will be my first year, I've never been before. For the last few years I've thought about going, but never actually committed myself to it.
So I was a bit disappointed when I missed out on tickets in the first run, but luckily I managed to get a ticket in the second round of tickets A bunch of my friends did, too. So I don't care where we are sitting, I'll be with my friends, and I'm sure we won't be standing in some side room with a video feed or anything.
Each month HUNK will fly in a highly respected DJ from the global dance scene. However, we are not talking girly circuit style here – we are talking about dirty funked-up and sexy music.
THANK GOD FOR THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!
who came with this brilliant idea? its about time sydney moved from that fluffy american curcuit sounds.
sydney needs something fresh and sexy. (bye bye twinky bleached hair collars up home nighclub "no named" event)
True Diva can be alot of fun. I have been to a few, didnt manage to get tickets this time, not so happy about but i'll live. Sometimes its the same drag queens winning. Bit its fun to go along and watch all these glamourous people slide into a mess as the night wears on..its all good fun
never been to Frisky, heard lots of good things about it and really looking forward to this one. really sad to see toybox go like that. toybox was absolutely unreal, i thought the last one blew mardi gras 30th birthday party away completely
there arent as many dance parties as there used to be which is a real shame. what ever happened to the Big Queennation that we used to have in the middle of the year plus all the toybox parties every 2 months or so in 2006. its a real shame that we dont have many more bigger organised dance parties throughout the year
mardi gras, sleaze and something on NYE is all that seems to be on.
Just needs a promoter with some brains like Toybox promoters to give the punters something they want.
But its becoming increasingly expensive to hire out Hordern/Luna Park etc so its a big $ risk.
Metro now back online for parties so thats a good size
to start off your parties with to build a reputation and take it to the next size up but then you get detractors who wont go but on the other hand you get people like me who will go if its in the Hordern.
Nothing beats walking into the Hordern with that music pumping and the feel as you walk in the first time and then sitting in the bleachers watching the lighting or
being on the dance floor under the lighting. Something you cant get in our small Clubs.
Mandy Rollins, Lanny K and Miss Yetti are your dancefloor deviants this Friday night at The Hellfire Club, making for a Hot August Night despite the lingering winter chill. Shows are set to raise the temperature too, including this little piece called Goth Moth:
“Predator becomes prey as a scientist’s passion for a wasp-waisted winged wench ignites a furious flurry of revenge. Watch as the pierced prey transforms from submissive specimin to venemous vixen who devours her captor in a carnivorous feeding frenzy.”
Plus you'll meet Phoenix & Dangerboy - they’ll be bringing a whole bag of tricks to the Hellfire stage. I’ve heard rumours of fire eating, fire on bare flesh, fire magic and possibly an er… extra, extra firm mattress? That’s all the hints I am giving…
Here’s what FireTrybe Nation had to say about the act: “Sultry fire-artist Phoenix teams up with circus freak Dangerboy in an intimate fusion of fire fetish and sideshow cabaret. Prepare to be shocked and seduced, titillated and tortured, as you step into their fiery underworld.”
As you can see on the Hellfire Blog here: http://hellfiresydney.com/blog/?p=1137, Phoenix & Dangerboy are young, cute and very sexy - we’re sure you’ll treat them to the usual warm Hellfire welcome as they burn to impress you all.
Gender Offenders will warm to the Wicked Doll Transformations Parlour, where Miss Brandy will hold court as usual. Here's what she has to say abouit what to expect:
"I’ve noticed an interesting development in the types of people presenting themselves to me for ‘make-overs’ at the last couple of Hellfire Nights.
Aside from the Gorgeous Girls, T-Girls, Cross-Dressers and Trannies needing a touch-up, or even an extra bit of Bling applied to their faces/bodies, there are a growing number of quite ‘manly’ men, wanting make-overs - eagerly urging me to ‘take charge’ of their transformation.
Well…this excites me no-end!
So much so, that this month at Hellfire- for an unmatched “Forced Feminisation” experience - The Wicked Doll Parlour will be featuring our very own hot pink, cushioned leather, customized ‘restraining’ table!
At two meters long, and a weight-bearing load of over 300kgs, its perfect for those naughty little boys - who like to be restrained and turned into naughty little girls - along with anyone else willing for the experience!
Together with my gorgeous T-Girl slave, Samantha, we will lie you down, tie you up, and you will feel the sensual pleasure of being made-over - Miss Brandy style…"
For pictures/information on this, and other Wicked Doll services - or to put yourself on the mailing list- visit http://www.wickeddoll.com
We open the doors at 930pm this Friday night, downstairs at The Gaff (cnr Oxford & Riley sts) - call 0410 696 036 for details
"Wish everyone wouldn't be so quick to say this is the end of Toybox. I know for a fact the Big Top has been booked next Mardi Gras by the Toybox team. The party just needs a break to clear the air - but mark my words, it will be back." - Pinkboard is unable to verify this statement.
And mark my words I'll be back in March on this wall to remind you of what you just said if/when what you say doesn't turn into reality
I was at Madonna Mansion last night (only because I promised a friend I'd go with them - I can't stand the mutton-dressed-as-lamb cow) and the atmosphere was tragic. It's not that it was empty or anything, but it was just so flat all night. It certainly wasn't all Madonna all night as I suspected.... if I was a fan, I would have been shitty. If Minogue Mansion was the same, I'm not so upset that I didn't go anymore...

Hello NiteGroovers,
There are some legends that linger long in our collective unconscious, legends that recall a magical time.
Sydney's club scene is home to one such legend, a legend that is soon to be reborn, bringing back a seductive world of light, colour, sounds and tantalising skin-to-skin trysts in the heart of Sydney's Metro Theatre.
Frisky has returned.
It is the same legendary crew, the same legendary production team and the same sparkling imagination that will create a new Frisky experience.
That's why we have called this special return - the Homecoming
It's a chance for a new generation of homecoming queens to become a part of the Frisky legend and to see the return of our knights in shining amour (that's not wrongly spelt babe, it's French for luurve - and if you had been to these parties you would know why).
So mount the highest tier of your homecoming queen float, wrap your arms around the muscled shoulders of your own personal prom king and, with your entourage in tow, set sail down George St at the head of a flotilla of queens and gorgeous hunks. Crest the waves of delighted astonishment before docking in the wild harbour that is Frisky, where we will welcome the lords and lads of Sydney to a Metro transformed.
Enter into a world that Circuit Noise described as a Sydney phenomenon and which the Sydney Morning Herald dubbed the highlight of the clubbing year.
For those who have believed and waited for this day, those queens above all queens - the Victorias, the golden aged Elizabethans and the Catherine the Greats of clubland - we offer you a gift. We give unto you a delightful secret entry into Frisky's hidden garden of earthly and occasionally most decidedly naughty unearthly delights.
Officially tickets go general on sale on Thursday, August 21.
And what joys you will uncover.
The ringmaster himself, DJ JoJo will be joined by Scott Anderson, Mark Alsop and Rob Davis
Once again they will take Frisky in new and bold musical directions that defy the traditions of clubland. Once again Frisky will create a sacred pleasure dome that would make Kublai Khan blush; where bodies will touch and tangle amongst the scents and sounds of a Frisky world - a world where soft open mouthed kisses are the beginning of so much more.
And while you forget all your cares, Frisky will, as always, show that it cares deeply for this community. We are proud to put our support ($2 per ticket) behind The Luncheon Club through the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation and ACON.
So welcome back to you all and especially to those who will experience Frisky for the first time.
Had an awesome night at the last Shine at the Shift. The laser were awesome and those huge faces looking at the crowds were mesmerising. Yes Iam going with plan to have a big night out with friends. 1 more sleep.
The last Ruby/Shine party at the Shift was amazing. A packed dancefloor, great music, fabulous lighting and lasers and yes those huge faces were awesome. I wonder what lighting tricks Paul Marin and Adam Bold have in store for us tonight?
Another fantastic night by the Shine team. Place was packed and jumping. It is amazing the amount of people the party pulls. It is certainly garnering a reputation for high quality production - and the crowd is consistently there for each event.
DCM - overcrouding, bikie gangs, shootings, & club on police bikie watch list (as reported in smh)
AN OXFORD Street nightclub allegedly patronised by bikie gangs has been refused a 24-hour trading licence after evidence it had insufficient security and was dangerously overcrowded.
UN Sydney on Oxford Street, formerly known as DCM, lost an appeal at the Land and Environment Court to have a 24-hour trading approval for Friday and Saturday nights extended due to continuing non-compliance issues, including a lack of concern for patron safety and noise complaints from residents.
The nightclub announced recently it was relocating temporarily to nearby premises on Oxford Street while soundproofing and renovations took place.
Police cited overcrowding and a fire exit obstructed by garbage when they opposed the application for the trading hour extension, which ended last year.
An affidavit from Sergeant Peter Mort stated that on one occasion police counted more than 800 people above the official figure of 178 recorded by security guards. During another inspection, it was found that a security guard was unlicenced.
Commissioner Jan Murrell said the club had not "consistently demonstrated a commitment to concern for patrons" in her decision not to grant an extension of the trial first granted in July 2006.
"In particular, the non-compliance with the requirement of the rear fire emergency exit and stairs to be clear of obstructions in the event of the need for evacuation in an emergency," the judgment read.
"Potentially endangering lives cannot be tolerated."
The trial period, which allowed the club to trade for 24 hours on weekends rather than close at midnight, ended in July last year. This was a month after police put the venue on a bikie illegal activity watch list and two months after three men were shot outside the club. http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/club-loses-24hour-trading/2008/08/17/1218911460347.html
Got my Frisky ticket. This might be the first time in about 10 years that I don't go to Sleaze. I'm still considering doing both though.... I just hope I'm not disappointed by Frisky. I'm expecting it to be pretty close to Toybox.
I noticed on saturday night there was more straights there then normal, wonder if this is mainly because of DCM's I had a arugement with one of them when they put there coats down in our seating booth and said we will not be responsible for your coats there is a cloak room,
Had an AMAZING time! Felt like a mini toybox when the streamers and confetti exploded on the dance floor. The mirrors really made the space brighter. Good job on the laser show and even better job from all dj's. Music was EXCELLENT!
he is playing divas in europe. isnt it whats sydney about?
it is a shame no one researches the scene before they book. there are hundreds of superb djs in europe we dont have a clue about. they will never get booked by sydney clubs cause they dont play divas. the same as many sydney gay djs. they would find it hard to get work in europe - cause they play divas.
the bottom line is: why dont import more o/s djs who play divas?
(talk about variety)

You must be kidding mate.....Jack Chang did one of the best sets in the Dome @ Mardi Gras (left a lot of others for dead), he also played Thursday night beforehand at The Bank Hotel and did a recovery party on the Sunday night. Good to see someone has the balls to bring this great dj back to Sydney - we need more like him. Pity he is not doing Sleaze also - he would go down well there.
Suzanne Palmer may not be a "headliner" in the way a top twenty Pop popette may be a "headliner" but she has what they don't have - a voice. No - she has a great VOICE! And great anthems. One of the great dance divas of the last 10 years. Up there with Deborah Cox. The year she sang at Mardi Gras showed what singing is all about. It may have been the year ALison Moyet pulled out at the last minute. She is a favourite with some of the best d.j.'s on the planet including Offer Nism.I for one would
feel very lucky indeed to be at a party that had Suzanne Palmer performing. This is the opinion of the poster.
Check his website www.changmusic.com and listen to his sets played at various parties and venues in London and Europe - he is a very busy boy and must be good if they keep hiring him everywhere.
I kind of agree. IMO Mandy Rollins outplayed him at both Mardi Gras and Woof Club. Jack Chang didn't play anything that you don't hear a number of the Phoenix DJs play.
thanks for that post. Was beginning to think my friends and I were wrong ! dont get me wrong there were people dancing of course and he wasnt bad. Just thought it was
average so we left and came back for the Aussie DJ's.
good god, please dont mix palmer & moyet.
alison has got a class and contributed to the history of music. (whether she pulled out oof MG or not)
while palmer is yet another screamming so called diva singing girlie US circuit music.
and the "best djs on the planet incl offer nissim" will keep me laughing for weeks lol
Jack is a good dj - he was great at Mardi Gras and Woofclub the next night - but as someone said - Mandy Rollins played exceptionally well at both parties - especially at WoofClub. Thats how it goes some times. He has the capability to play a great set at Indulgence.
Is anyone else a little bit suspicious about all this hype about the Frisky party?
I have partied a lot in Sydney over the years but can barely remember this party myself...must be finally loosing my memory...damn all those drugs! LOL

In my (very humble) personal opinion and experience, Frisky was the perfect party experience for anyone into;
1. Happy, uplifting, high-energy trance music
2. A light show that takes your breath away
3. 1,000+ hot, sexy guys dancing their asses off
4. The best dance party venue in Sydney (the tiers are simply brilliant!! Oh, and no long queues in the bathrooms!)
5. An organiser who ignores the (self-appointed) arm-chair critics and gives the patrons exactly what they want
I'm very happy Frisky is back, and feel very confident it will be bigger and better than ever.
Frisky reliably delivered a dance party experience that was simply unforgettable. If you ticked the 5 points above, be there!
I've already dusted off the almost-retired dancing shoes, and started oiling the slightly rusty knee joints in preparation
