Pinkboard: Party Graffiti Wall 48

Hey Mr. DJ
Put a record on
I wanna dance with my baby
And when the music starts
I never wanna stop
It’s gonna drive me crazy
Music...music...music...music...music....music...
Music makes the people come together
(Never gonna stop)
Music makes the bourgeoisie and the rebel
(Never gonna stop)
Don’t think of yesterday
And I don’t look at the clock
I like to boogie-woogie
It’s like riding on the wind and it never goes away
Touches everything I’m in
Got to have it everyday
Music makes the people come together
(Never gonna stop)
Music makes the bourgeoisie and the rebel
(Never gonna stop)

surely a 6am Monday morning search is pretty obscure. I mean how many punters would be involved at that hour?
Reminds me of when they'd do the 12:30am raids so that things could be back to normal by 1am when the crowd would start arriving.
And finally...

Let's start over and sort the problems and discontent between the people that really DO care.

Thank you for spoiling the "flow" of this board and not contributing to the new function that panther has placed on the board. Surely it wouldn't have taken much effort.
I wonder if its possible for Panther to make the "song playing now" function boxes a compulsory entry. ie, If you dont fill in the box with your song playing now your post doesnt get published. Just a thought ??

Clubbers of Australia, the polls are open and it’s time to have your say. Yes, the 2006 Technics inthemix50 DJ Poll is on and this year it’s bigger and better than ever before!
With two new categories including the Most Popular Club Night and Most Popular Event by state, you now get to give a little pat on the back to the people who work tirelessly to put the dance floor under your feet and a place to meet.
But, let’s remember the mainstay of the Technics inthemix50 poll, it’s also about the DJs. Make sure you support the DJs that have given you so many great memories by voting for them. There were lots of surprises in last year’s results and we expect nothing less this time around.
Tell us who’s your favourite DJ + Club Night + Event and you will go in the draw to a pair of Technics SLZ-1200 Digital Turntables with Mixer and Headphones valued at over $5000.
This is your chance to have your say and support our awesome local industry, so vote now at www.inthemix.com.au/50
In The Mix Poll
Have to say that I vote every year for this forum of local talent. Support our own and show you give a damn.

Black and White Ball last night
I had the privilege of being asked along to the Dykes on Bikes Black and White ball.
Boys, it's a pity more of you didn't/don't get the opportunity to be invited, and go, to DoB events coz the boys could really learn a lot about community.
It was themed (as named) and without exaggeration almost every person there was dressed in theme. The music was good (great at times)and the crowd was no attitude gettin down and having fun. Just what dance parties are all about.
Congratulations to Janet and the crew from Dykes on Bikes who put the even on. You have a lot to teach the boy community.
Song Title/Artist Please
Could somebody please id. the song and artist for a track I heard in a club recently?
The only (female) vocal were "In my Dreams' and it had a sort of Arabian Nights sound to it.
Ta.
It's callled 'Dreams' by Kings of tomorrow
Yeah that's Dreams by Sandy Rivera/KOT. He played it when he DJed at SFT.
Will NMG pay attention ?
Why dont you wait and see first Aiden ?
Toybox has sold out... yay!
Arq on saturday
awful awful awful.... i was there for a few hours early sunday morning
too many high heels and high hair... agressive boys and did not feel like a gay club at all
wont be back - even though the music was great
although It was packed..... the most packed ive seen it for many years. Crowd is totally different these days, very straight, i was pashing a guy and i realised I was being watched in a different kinda way... like "oh look, there's some of them gays here tonight" type of thing

You are exactly right about ARQ.
I went with a group of friends at 6am Sunday and the people there were very agressive and pushed into us way too many times. Afet an hour or so we had to leave as the girl we were with was rather upset about it.
And I was very annoyed that one young guy I spoke to had NO IDEA it was a gay club. He was convinced it's 200% straight.
I mean what is WITH Arq charging the full $20 entry even at 7am when they shove everybody down in the broom closet at 7:30am eh?

WHEN: Saturday 30th September - 10pm-8am
WHERE: Hordern, Dome & The Forum
What's the Forum?
Currently listening to: Don'y stop beleiving - Journey
Congrats to those who made it but it really is a very similar line up to the NMG party and last years.
If only the organisers had bothered to look further than ARQ and the Shift.
From the Mardi Gras website:
"We've got what we think is the best DJ line-up in years. Stephen Allkins (Love Tattoo), Mr Timothy, Paul Goodyear, Sveta, Alex Taylor, Mandy Rollins, Sista P, Rob Davis, Jake Kilby, Feisty, Rob Gilbert, David Hiscock, Chip & Rado.
WHEN: Saturday 30th September - 10pm-8am
WHERE: Hordern, Dome & The Forum"
The Forum is the building formerly known as Stage 11 formerly known as City Live aka the big box that's not the Doggone Bar or the Fox & Lion
The Forum = Stage 11
Stop making sweeping statements. Not all the DJs play at the Shift and Arq. I think it's a great lineup. Well done NMG!
Currently listening to: Love Come Down - Tokyo feat Siobhan
There are at least 7 DJ's on that list that don't play either Arq or the Shift. There are DJ's representing the Phoenix, Manacle (the night crowd, not the recovery crowd), and a bunch of the dirty leather parties too.
What more do you want? Who else do you require on your wishlist?

Mr Timithy is definately all wrong - wrong wrong wrong! other than that its good. i would have put Mark Alsop in there instead and it would be a perfect line up. oh well!
ok here's just a quick list of names that at least one should have made the line up...
Seymour Butz
Ben Drayton
Steven Sonius
Ruby
Add to that the guys who did such a great job in Stage 11 at Inquisition;
Justin Scott
Shanobear
Mark Alsop
Ryan Murphy
or other locals like
Shane Day
Murray Hood
Tim Blanshard
Matt Steer
Luke Leal
perhaps looking north for a change to someone like Les Smith?
How about Dr Jane from Dirty Donkey?
I still stand by my original post that says this line up is too similar to last years Sleaze and this years MG party.
Well, the news is out, the rumours and attacks over DJ selection are long gone maybe (given how quickly the debate left this forum).
All DJs are ours and many with much applauded and admired international credentials. Those without international credentials (not that relevant for Sleaze anyway) are tried, tested, proven, and much loved locals.
Yes, the process has raised some concern, partially justified just because the process was not seen as being open and transparent, even if only based on a commercial success to raise the required funds to pay for OUR Mardi Gras Parade (primarily). That basis, I should add, I'm way supportive of in these tough times.
Very much looking forward to this collaboration of music and visuals that we are so great at presenting.
Bring It On!

I'm well pleased with that DJ line up. Well pleased indeed. Nice one.

ARQ and The Shift are the largest dance areas on the scene. If the venues are well run they would therefore choose the best DJs. Also, New Mardi Gras wants to choose the best DJs. I do not find it surprising that they want to choose the best too.

DJ POLL FOR MARDI GRAS PARTY
Just been looking at the DJ Poll on NMG website.
As there will be local dj's playing in the various halls what is wrong with trying a bit of variety and importing 1 or 2 DJ's from OS for a change instead of same same. Seems every other major party overseas do the same thing.
I suggest they (NMG) drop the "local dj rules" from the poll and just leave the OS ones to be voted for. May end up getting more punters from OS to the party too.
Come on be game and try something new......

Sleaze ad
Not much information on the Sleaze ad in SSO today. Looks pretty sexy though. I thought it was a bit squeaky clean till I noticed the clit chain.
I think it looks hot! Good on 'em, maybe they've finally got their marketing sorted out again. On the other hand... the DIVA poster?
it would be nice - given NMGs focus on local talent, to have someone who has a strong connection to the gay community in the line up and who is also a great dj and fits the sleaze 'look' (for lack of a better word) - hence mark alsop over mr timothy (and he is just one example).

NMG Newsletter on Sleaze
25 and still looking fresh
Yes indeed. Sleaze Ball number 25. Doesn't time fly! Who would have thought our livers would still be in one piece?
A little bit of history. The first Sleaze Ball was held in September 1982 in the grand ballroom at Paddington Town Hall. It was an overwhelming success and 500 party goers had to be turned away. The following year it headed to the Showgrounds for the first time, numbers rocketed and Sydney had it's other great gay party.
While Mardi Gras Party is all wonder, celebration and light, the Sleaze Ball is darker and edgier. There's room for everything from high camp to S&M, but only so long as it's sleazy. Sleaze Ball is also the great dress-up night of the year, an opportunity to flex your creative muscles (and any other muscles you have at your disposal).
Well Sleaze is staying dark and edgy, but as it's our 25th - our silver - we thought we'd throw in a bit of bling...
Don't be fooled by the rocks that I got...
It's with great pleasure that we can officially announce to you, our members, that Sleaze Ball 2006 is open for business.
The Ball is back! We want to make this the most dressed-up night in the Sydney calendar. To help you along we've chosen a theme which we think gives you plenty of scope for sexy costumes.
So welcome to Ghetto Fabulous!
Our creative team is currently combing the urban ghettos of the world's great cities for everything that is hip and happening. They're looking for things that are so wrong they might just be right. Their goal? To give you a party that teeters on the edge between glamour and gutter. You could be the toast of the V.I.P Lounge one minute and in a dumpster the next.
It's all about being hip and cool, yet shamelessly trashy. You can't look too glitzy. You can't look too filthy. It's Sleaze Ball after all.
We've got what we think is the best DJ line-up in years. Stephen Allkins (Love Tattoo), Mr Timothy, Paul Goodyear, Sveta, Alex Taylor, Mandy Rollins, Sista P, Rob Davis, Jake Kilby, Feisty, Rob Gilbert, David Hiscock, Chip & Rado.

Happy 9th Birthday, Stonewall
Was sleaze last year RHI + Hordern or just one of them? I thought it was both... but i cant remember!!
*stands on head*
Sleaze last year was RHI and Hordern, this year I dont think they are using RHI. Hordern, Dome and City Live/stage 11/whatever they call it now.

Sleaze Ball
I'm very excited to hear that City Live is being used for Sleaze and will again host a retro theme for the night.
My sources tell me that up until a week ago Sleaze was only going to be in the Hordern & Dome. The announcement by Toybox that they will not be having a party on the day after was instrumental in NMG electing to add another hall for the night and the DJ's in that space only being asked last week.
My sources also tell me that David Hiscock is back after his successful effort at Mardi Gras and will again be playing the middle set in the retro space and Jake Kilby will be closing the space, not too sure who is opening.
It will be very interesting having a Sleaze ball with no RHI but to be frank it's a very sensible business decision and with no RHI its going to be a very sought after party to attend in my opinion. I'm gonna get my ticket next week
Looking forward to Sleaze heaps.

Unfortunately, this hasn't translated into NMG including even one trance DJ in the DJ line-up - I'm guessing this is why people like Ryan Murphy weren't invited to play. I'll be interested to see how this affects ticket sales....

Well Trance Boy , NMG have added City Live as the extra venue. It's been said over and over again that City Live doesnt work for most styles of music and its been a proven winner for retro music. Would you have been happy if City Live was added as a trance venue ? I'd say probably not.
Well done NMG for recognising that there are other needs other than trance and house.
The addition of the retro space for sleaze will attract a lot more punters than I think anyone realizes
Hats off the Stonewall (except on the top floor where it's recommeded to wear a hard hat.

just a bit curious here - what venue in sydney is playing TRANCE on a weekly bases these days? straight or gay.
NONE
thank you. thought i was the only one who noticed.
Funny discussion about Trance in The Forum (formerly Stage 11 and City Live).
I remember distinctly Ryan Murphy rocking The Forum in the last shift of Inquisition - hands in the air and loving it.
Trance works if the room is designed to handle it, the DJ is good enough, and the people are up for it.
The Forum works well for many styles of music - let's not 'pidgeon hole' any venue for any style. We have so few venues we can use for parties in this city and our options should always be well and truly open.
Just my opinion. Have a good rest of weekend everyone.

Whilst I'm happy for Retro boy getting his space , I'm
now worried what they are going to do with the Hordern ?
Someone asked Brad W the question and no reply so far ?
Have loved the Horderns style and its been pretty well the only venue I dance in for MG and Sleaze and its always packed ? so dont understand "if" they suddenly change that around.
And while Retro boy and others may slag trance it is this
style which is the more popular and I'm talking all forms of trance whether commercial/hard etc . You only have to look at CD sales/ top DJ lists/ overseas parties etc.

You people that are asking/begging for the Hordern to be tribal/hard/dark etc etc are barking up a tree far too late.
Dont you realize that the DJ's have already been picked by NMG for Sleaze and that people like Alex Taylor and Paul Goodyear have already been placed in the Hordern. Sorry guys, but the Hordern this Sleaze is the commercial hall and thats that. No amount of pleading is going to change this now. Unless NMG unexpectedly can add in the RHI at the last minute then the Hordern is going to be commercial music and you tribal/hard/dark music lovers are just going to have to settle for the Dome. Sorry.

Whilst I agree with you Aiden, I do think it was reasonable to expect that the major hall at a party called SLEAZE would have a dirty/harder sound to it.
Maybe it's time to rename this party as it's having less and less to do with actual sleaze each time.
I'm not saying it's going to be a bad party, in fact it will probably be quite good. Good yes, sleazy? most likey not.
Also interesting is the change in attitude of my friends. Last year Sleaze was a must go, unmissable. This year we're still undecided. Only 1 out of my usual group of 15 has said we should definately go.
I'm right on it, and so are all of my mates. It's always my favourite party of the year, and I can't wait.
Luke, I was at the NYE 1998 Danny Tenaglia party and Mazz Image was there snapping away at least for the early part of the night (I can only remember this because I still have one of her pics of me and the boyf at the time). I reckon she is your best bet seeing as she's archived her shots of every g&l event in the history of Sydney just about.

i love posts that are saying "me and my 5 or 15 friends" are not going because of.....
are you and your friends some kind of indicator if the party is going to be good or bad?
wherever you go its all about what YOU make it to be for yourself. not what your friends make it for you.
also, if one of your 15 friends said "we should go this year" that indicates to me that theres something wrong with your little group of 15. i think you should get rid off such a group destroying person. its dangerous wanting to have fun, an opinion and be flexible.

have you seen the dj line up, no trance DJ's to start with. my pick is something along this line: the forum, Jake Kilby and David Hiscock. Dome: Stephen Allkins, Sveta, Mandy, Feisty, Rob Gilbert and Rado - although it does seem like a lot. Hordern: Mr Timothy, Alex, Chip, Paul goodyear although he could also be in the Dome?, Rob Davis and Sista P, although they could also be in the Dome. lots of the djs they have sleceted play dark and dirty and lots play tribal.
Well Personally, i believe there are only two djs selected that play dark/dirty tribal well, and they are true tribal dj's.
Both are female and the dome is where they rock.

I totally agree. a main room full of commercial??!!! not very sleazy. its a shame really. NMG have got it wrong this time imho.
actually three- rob gilbert - he is fantastic - from melb - does the beyond parties
Sleaze is just the name of the party. You guys are making way too much out of a name and creating mountains out of mole hills
Fox studio parties havent been "sleazy" for years and thats not NMG's fault , its the fault of the people that run Fox.
Time to get over the whole concept that Sleaze Ball is Sleazy and recognise the fact that the main hall at a dance party has to play the type of music that is preferred by the majority of party goers , and that is (and has always been) commercial music.

Well i cant agree with you aiden, i am certainly one who doesnt want to going along with the majority, i like to stand up on my own to feet and not just be a follower, whats the point of having two nmg party's a year that are excatly the same in music styles and dj's, and lets not forget its the same music and djs at every venue every week, nmg is about celebrating every single person and their individual choices and styles. I certainly can remember last years party and everyone was rockin with the style of music that was played in the main hall. And guess what it wasnt commercial.
I am looking forward to sleaze and will have a great time with my friends.

You seem to forget Micky that Aidens word is the last word on the subject. No one is allowed to have an opinion as he shoots them down ( well tries to ).
As you say it is called SLEAZE and sure its not as Sleazy as before but you would think the Hordern would be the dark/dirty/sexy featured hall.
Otherwise you may as well just call then MG 1 and MG 2.
Still going as I love Rob Gilbert and have posted here before about his awesome set at NYE and then again

Boy from OZ
Graham and I were two of 500 or so people lucky enough to be invited to the dress rehearsal of the Boy from OZ last night.
WOW WOW WOW.
Hugh Jackman is fab, as is the rest of the cast. Great to also see some of our local male dancers in the cast. If you don't have tickets yet its definitely worth trying to grab one.
Maybe it could be called "Cheese Ball"?
Toys R Arq
Anyone know which djs are playing arq this sunday?
Josh and Luke from 11pm upstairs
just looking on myspace. brett hendrichson is playing at arq on 13th august.
How about we retitle Sleaze Ball "Little Mardi Gras"
"Re: Toys R Arq
Josh and Luke from 11pm upstairs"
That's clever when Toybox finishes at 8pm. Looks like the getting more popular and good Stephen Simpson will get the punters at Arq followed by Matty Steer.
Im new to SYD and going to Toybox. Should I be going to ARQ or Shift after toybox and what time??
Re: It will be the Shift for me if I have to wait for - Wed 2 Aug 2006 21:18:53
Well, those who want to kick on immediately after Toy Box normally seem to head straight to the Shift, because it keeps the pace and music going right from 8pm onwards - a good move actually.
ARQ made a mistake a few Tob Boxes back where it refused to follow the same pattern, and insisted on taking everybody back to its normal funky house opening set, progressing onto trance and uplifting styles later in the night. It was a mistake because Toy Box patrons would walk in, see it wasn't happening, and turn around and go straight back to the Shift.
Starting at 11 makes sense. And with DJ Josh and Luke Leal on the bill, I know where I'll be heading!
Plus, it gives you a chance to head home, have a short break, and freshen up before kicking on. That approach always seems to work well for our happy little group.
So, DJ Josh and Luke Leal in the Arena at ARQ? Perfect way to finish off a fantastic day of great music - for me anyway
Haven't been out clubbing for A-G-E-S! So really counting down to this one.

Yeah - I was also extrememly lucky to go to last night's final dress rehearsal - it was pretty fantastic, and very gay (even if they've cut the kiss and the Stonewall riots scene, which is a bit of a shame...).
Chrissie Amphlett & Angela Toohey were as good as they were in the original productionas Judy & Liza, and Colleen Hewitt was impressive as Peter's mother (even if Aunty Mavis was a bit miffed she missed out on the role).
Will be there again tonight for opening night, but a little further from the stage this time... oh well...

DTPM on a Friday night = Yes yes and....yes.
My goodness, Colleen Hewitt - is she still alive? (wink).
I don't remember her very kindly because she always over enunciated her words when singing. She even lambasted Bette Midler's Wind Beneath My Wings; complaining how it sounded like "I could fly higher than aneagle". Colleen's version was a very cliipped "AN eagle". Like who cares Coll, your version lacked just one thing - emotion.

HA HA - yeah that pathetic version is what I always remember whenever i hear her name.
Remember when, years ago, she was a judge on Talent Quest, or New Faces or whatever it was called, and all the contestants used to suck up to her and say "oh i liked your version of Wing Beneath My Wings better". HA HA. that was such a crack up because the obviously didn't mean it and Colleen just kept on feeling bitter that her version didn't have anywhere near the success that Better Midler's version did.
Oh, the memories are rolling back now.....
Chris Cox plays the Shift's 25th Birthday
So, I've just learned that Chris Cox (formerly one half of Thunderpuss with Barry Harris) will be playing a six hour set at the Shift's 25 birthday party on Saturday 19 August.
Am I the only one who is excited at the prospect of hearing a DJ who produced some of the most memorable (well, for me anyway) remixes of the late 1990s and early 2000s as part of Thunderpuss?
Yes, they were so handbag. Yes, there were incredibly camp. Yes, they certainly didn't push any musical boundaries but I can't help but smile and lose myself in reminiscence whenever I hear one of these tracks.
Anyone have any idea what his muscial style is like now?
Currently listening to: White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane
Hey that's exactly where I remembered her bitterness from, that talent quest.
She was a true bitch insisting everybody stop and separate words when singing (rather than letting them roll and flow with the music).
And such a "cat's bum" look regarding her failure as a recording artiste.
Well good on the old duck I guess for being trotted out in her twilight years
Personally I prefer diva's like Toni Lamond and Helen Reddy.
I think it will be a GREAT night. The Shift always puts on a good birthday party, with each one being different to the others.
Carn't wait!
Well I for one am damn excited about Toybox this weekend. Really can't wait to see what the team have in store.
Will be fantastic to see both the Shift and Arq doing trance all night too. Yippee!

The Metro, Bless Her
As this romantic Gemini/Cancer finishes watching Studio 54 on cable tonight, he realizes that, like back then in the early 80s, the last dance is heard in venues and situations. The need to move on encompasses all. We either develop or we stagnate.
Way back in 1998 Jo Jo showed us the Metro as a special place we could escape and live in another world, albeit for only 8-9 hours 6 or 7 times a year.
Several other ‘gay’ parties and courageous promoters came along, notably Free, to give us other uses, more often, for this new favoured venue of the gay community.
Then came a new Lord Mayor, determined to clean up George Street, so that development and progress would move forward. Targeted were the 24 Hour licensed premises on the ‘strip’, not, unfortunately, the pinball parlors that actually attracted the ‘scum’ and trouble of the late night in the heart of our beautiful city. (And still do)
The new closing still, sort of, suited the wonderful venue’s regular, and much respected support, for the live band community but, alas, our perchance for ‘dancing till dawn’, and beyond, suffered.
After what felt like an eternity, two young men who had been long supporters of the Frisky experience decided to work within the ‘rules’ and hence the serious Sydney Day Party was developed. This followed many years of “recoveries” starting in the gutter, the Shift etc – feeling nostalgic right now?
We should reflect here for a second – the necessity came due to not allowing the ‘entertainment sector’ of Sydney to actually entertain – I digress...
Anyway, the rest, as they say, is history – Sunday, at the Metro, will be the 12th Toybox and the 10th at the Metro. I lost count of my Frisky parties (I just called Jo to find out and he asked if he could call me back with exact numbers as he was DJing at Arq that moment – good one Damon – he he). The date, this Sunday, coincidentally, is also what would have been the 10th anniversary of Frisky from it’s early days at Orb (starting in August 1996) before the move to the Metro in early 1998.
As many know, the Metro is in trouble financially and has been widely reported to be under Voluntary Administration. The managers of the interim period are from the Enmore (thank God), another venue that has a strong history for supporting live music and alternative entertainment in Sydney.
So, this Sunday, I, as a veteran, with the utmost pleasure, will do my God only knows how many numbered party at this icon of Sydney.
And, it may be my, our, last. If it is, let’s give Toybox the best send off we can and, more importantly, when, sometime during the day, you look up and think “Do you remember where you lost it?”, let's remember the history and the special people that made our journey so damn good.
Bump-in for, maybe, the last Gay gig at the Metro, starts early tomorrow so must away. Thanks guys for the enormous personal pride in assisting some bloody brilliant dreamers to make our dreams come true.
Love ya,

Interesingly, the Metro Theatre website says it is now known as "The Century Theatre".
Perhaps this change is just the beginning of a new era.
Well I am also excited about Toybox tomorrow. A party is 80% music and 20% your attitude.
The Metro is very tired nowadays, and you can't turn back the clock. Let's have a great one and move on as you say.
I was so inspired this time I went out today and bought a few toys (GO-LO is a great place for bargains) and the thought of bringing some fun to sick kids is another bonus.

I disagree, the Metro underwent a huge overhaul when the new owners took over a few months ago .... paint job etc. The chandalier was removed from the tilted frame and placed (in all its glory) above the stairs (personally I think the whimsy of it hanging awkwardly in the frame was more in place) ..... pity the staff were all put off and new staff will be there tomorrow ..... the metro security staff were the best I've ever worked with, the bar staff were on the ball and generally the place worked well.
Oh well, Vale the Metro. Hopefully you'll live for us to play in, in the future.
Bring on Toybox tomorrow - I'm gonna have fun for a change!
Remember, upright and eyes open please!
Oh, and please leave your G at home.
I don't really understand why everyone loves the Metro so much. It is an awkward space for a dance party IMO - it is a difficult place in which to find your friends and those tiers make it difficult to mingle with the crowd. In fact, laser admiration is the only thing that the tier layout seems to be any good for. :p Anyhow, hope everyone enjoys the ?last Toybox at the Metro. Looking forward to another venue though!
The Metro... Toy Box
Well, although I had a lovely evening watching The Boy from Oz at the Entertainment Centre, I was also really disappointed that I was missing my favourite dance party - Toy Box. And now, to make matters worse, I read here that it could very well be the last one! Damn! I really hope not... I actually love The Metro but there's no way I'd wish that Toy Box would end along with its original home! Please please please don't end Toy Box parties!

Another fabulous party from the Toybox guys. Great stuff and what a spectacular ending to the party.
Loved seeing Miss 3D work her magic at the party and seeing another dragqueen trying to high jump the toilet doors. I suppose I should have helped her down but I preferred seeing her stuck on top of the toilet doors....pure magic!
Can't wait for the next Toybox party at the Hordern on New Years Day.

Don't worry - the next ToyBox was announced at the end of yesterday's party. New Year's Day at the Hordern Pavilion.
I'll be at Field Day on NYD - the best event in all of Australia.
I hope it works in the hordern.
So many other parties have been held there it will be a challenge to make it really feel different.
But I'll be there with bells on
Went to Toybox on Sunday at the Metro and what a party for their last one of the year. Music, lighting and crowd was the fantastic. Loved the zimmer frames. The first dj in the main room was I think Les Smith. Can anyone tell me where he plays at normally as I have never heard him play before and he was simply brilliant. One of the best hands in the air sets I heard in a long time.

Toybox was fantastic. The main room was absolutely going off by 2pm. It was amazing. The energy in the room was fantastic. It was definitely a wonderful send off to the Metro parties.
Sounds, mood lights and lasers were brilliant as always.. and the sets by Les Smith and Steven Hales were great. Long, hard mixes by Steven Hales were especially rewarding on the sound system which was tuned brilliantly (thanks Damon and team at Norwest!)
But now the Toybox team is moving onto bigger things... the Hordern Pavillion on New Years Day! YAY! Can't wait.
Les Smith is from Brisbane. He normally plays at the Wickham Hotel up there.

Les Smith is a long long LONG time established DJ from Brisbane. He's been playing the gay venues in Brissy since the very early 1980's.
I still have a vivid memory of my first ever trip to Brisbane and going to what was "THE" gay club at the time in Brisbane called "The Terminus" in Fortitude Valley in the mid 80's and hearing Les have the audacity to play "Legs" by ZZ Top. Makes me laugh to this very day.
I'm glad Les is getting some big gigs these days - He's one of the nice guys.

So if Toybox is on NYE Day in the Hordern...............
Does anyone know if there is a gay party there New
Years Eve ?
They could split the costs of setting up the Hordern etc.
I prefer to party on the night so fingers crossed ?
And laserboy.......... I laughed. Yep would have been
fun to see the drag queen stuck on the toilet door. I would have stood back to take in the sight as well
I'd say that there will be nothing on at the Hordern on NYE. I reckon the Toybox team would have booked it so they can do their bump in. The room is huge, so they'll need a bit of time to set it up. But will be interesting to see how things pan out.
Pride NYE parties are usually on at Stage 11 (the Forum )and the Dome.
After last NYE out there, I would be surprised if any group attempt it again this year.
Thanks for the comments guys. It was an amazing day at the Metro. So many people from way back in the 90s came to give her a biss kiss goodbye (for now, anyway) and the energy in the room was electric.
The Funktion One audio system just performed brilliantly for me, if not a little loud on occasions - he he.
Anyways, it's forward to Sleaze and New Year.

Re NYE -
but if someone/some group is thinking of putting on a party at Fox on NYE then they could share the costs of setting
up with Toybox boys.
Couldn't they ?
I miss the NYE parties in the Hordern. I think its the best venue going. Not too big and not too small. Plenty of toilets and bars and space.
But dont forget there is Fag Tag / Homesexual who are moving up into the bigger dance parties.
Big bonus would be splitting costs with Toybox.
That's hilarious. I do not think that the Toybox team will be sharing any costs with anyone. I bet the Toybox team have booked the venue for NYE night. I don't doubt that in the least. They're a smart group - and good on them.
The design, approach and structure of Fag Tag and Toybox are not congenial to 'joint' venue usage. The turnaround of the venue in 4 to 6 hours is just not practical. Both are good successful concepts to be applauded in supporting the gay community, private or otherwise. It simply is a fact they are not compatible.
I reckon a Fag Tag house NYE and Toybox trance NYD could work out quite nicely.
NYE?! There's a bit of partying to get through before we head north for the summer holiday trailer trash fun.

big parties/set up
The Toybox guys will need, at a guess, two days to set up and program the Hordern Pavilion. When we did BQN we hired it from Thursday (7am) for a Saturday night party. We do the same for MG and Sleaze, i.e., go in on Thursday (7am) for a Saturday night event, its a L-O-N-G process that needs good planning and time. The beloved timber dance floor takes around 6 hours to lay alone and there is bugger all that can be done whilst its being put down, that said if its just the Hordern and no other venues then 1 day should be enough time.
I cant imagine that there will be a large gay party on in Sydney on NYE 2005/2006. There may be some smaller ones but I think the days of pride NYE party may be gone..? This is just me thinking as I type and I have not heard a thing either way so I could be very wrong??
Well the big house party would be the Luna Park NYE party. Their production levels are quite similar to that of Toybox, there is more rooms and last year's music style were generally house, electro, etc. Be interesting to see the line up this year.
Well it seems a shame that if Toybox have booked the Hall
from the Thur that they dont use it on NYE as well ?
Toybox I and Toybox II.
Clean up on the whole NYE weekend !
Yeah I know dream on but hey surely couldnt be too much added cost if already have the hall set up.
Get the New Years Eve Crowd, get the Recovery crowd, and
get the day partying crowd................
Agree Brad W , I dont see Pride putting on anything of that size anymore. Personally I think they lost the plot a few years back.
Needs someone like Fag Tag or Homesexual producers to take over.
Homesexual isnt moving up into bigger dance parties.... it just stays the same and is getting tired much like the queer nation parties. They need to branch out and try a new venue like Fagtag did. It worked for them
Currently listening to: City Life - The Fallen Angel
But isn't the very idea of HOMEsexual that it is only on at HOME? You get stuck with just one venue when you put the name of the venue into the title of a party.
then call it mobile homesexual. problem (creatively) solved.
funny!!!...perhaps get Telstra to sponsor
Well when it was Queer Nation it was at home and BQN
was in Hordern.
Seems a waste having the Hordern all set up days ealier
and its empy on NYE ................
As a previous poster said, Fag Tag and Toybox are both private parties with differenet agendas (and there is nothing wrong with that.) I can't see Fag Tag using the same venue as TB the night beofre, would not really make sense for either event.
I went to Toybox and have to agree with Laser Boi the set Les Smith played was fantastic. I will make sure I go to the Wickham in Brisbane next time I am there and hear him play again. I wonder if he and Matt Steer (another Brisbane DJ) play together? That would be one awesome party. Hopefully a Sydney venue will get him down here again or maybe Mardi Gras will have him play again as my friends said he played at the 2005 party in the RHI and they said he had the hall rocking.

Alas and alack, things have not improved. It is a straight club on Saturdays, and they gay clientele are looked upon as "oh there are some gays here tonight".
I would like to add to my comment that my friends and I had problems with straight people deliberately walking into us when we were dancing there a few weeks back on a Saturday and when I couldn't find security anywhere to complain to.
A staff member walked past and I said what do u do about pushy obnoxious drunks? and he said "you're just going to have to put up with them. Move away from them if they bother you."
I mean what about RSA? what about ejecting arseholes?
hope this answers your "grape vine".
Arq on Saturdays
Damn it! That makes me so sad! I thought Arq was going through a big transformation and all this cool stuff was going to be happening now that David Twyman was involved. What's going on? I think it's really sad that there's only one true gay club on Oxford St on Saturdays at the moment (The Shift) and lesbians can't get in so where are we supposed to go? It's pathetic. Either Arq need to gay it up a bit or the Shift need to realise that lesbians are part of our community too!
PS Love Slide but don't REALLY classify that as a club!

Do you think if Toybox sells out quickly for New Years day like they usually do . They might sell a party for
New Years Eve as well ?
According to posts they will already have the Hordern set up so why waste it ?
There are those of us who would prefer to party at night.
Toybox could make a killing as they have their act together and advertise/sell well in advance.
If they did put one on, I'd join the queue to buy a ticket
today.
excuse moi, lesbians are allowed into shift ... just they wont feel very comfortable or maybe even accepted. if the girls start coming in, we'll start getting the str8 boys again and hence another arq situation. pfft ... they should invent a machine to tell what peoples orientations are to let them in or not, and if they're there for fun or there to bitch and make rude remarks about us on our own club ... anyone walked down oxford street from stonewall past like Mylk and Havana or are they the same thing?? the remarks and insults we get from people lining up in those lines is ridiculous, do they realise they're standing on the golden strip of the gay capital of the world you reckon? comments please!!
Currently listening to: some random str8 song my friend is playing - get it off....
do they realise they're standing on the golden strip of the gay capital of the world you reckon?
Well thanks to publications like the Daily Terrorgraph and the Sun Herald, Oxford St has been described as the Nightclub Strip of Sydney. They never mention gay club or bars, and so there is a whole generation of punters who think it's the "Straight Strip".
In other cities such as Toronto Canada the media allow the gay areas to be identified as such, and they have not been "cleaned up" as Sydney City Council would have done.
So yeah despite Mardi Gras lining their pockets, Oxford Street is no longer considered "our" area.

and here we are back at the reasons why lesbians don't Want to support the Cause because we are so unsupported.
Hey concerned, can you read over your comment again and have a little think about how it looks to others?
Currently the lesbians have 1 or 2 nights a week, never on a Saturday except occassional nights like Zip (thanks Mandy and Feisty) which was on last night in the Burdekin - where the women attending had to walk past straight men all night to get in and out of the 1 area of the venue their event was in. That's pretty brave of them but that's what lesbians have to do every time they want to go out.
It would be lovely to just go hang out at a gay club and not be pushed out of the way, ignored at the bar, crowded off the dance floor and generally treated like a second class of gay. But girls are generally not welcome in case it attracts straight boys. Oh noes!
Don't you think it would be better to be more welcoming to the gay women in the community and allow our venues to keep operating as a gay night instead of constantly losing nights to the non-gays.
Think about it.

Arq birthday
WOW WOW WOW. Had a absolutely fab time last night and this morning at Arq. Club was packed with a great mix of people, (very gay), the shows were great and the guest DJ was amazing, apparently he played at Mardi Gras this year? Any chance of him playing next year?
Homesexual and Sleaze
So the guys at Toybox do the right thing to allow New Mardi Gras have a free run at the long weekend and along comes Homesexual NOT putting on a night party (which is easy for them) but instead doing a 10am start.
What a wonderfully fantastic grab at Mardi Gras' clientele. Just not cricket!
It would be irresponsible for ANY party promoter to do a 16 hour long event non-stop at the same venue. It's dangerous, and just asking for trouble. It's just as irresponsible for two party promoters to team together and effectively do the same thing (a 16hr non-stop party at the same venue).
At least when a recovery/day party option is offered, people will generally go home, have a shower, perhaps a quick nap, then head out again.
The last few posts....
All I know re The Shift is that the times that I have tried to get in there (the Club, not the Bar) on a Friday or Saturday night where I've been by myself (meeting guys up there) I've been given the old "members only tonight"... such a load of shit. We all know what that means - you're a woman or you're not the type we want in here. And to be honest, every time they've been really rude about it too. I'm not going to rant too much but I effing love going to GAY clubs with gay MEN and it shits me that I'm not welcomed like I welcome them to any lesbian nights I attend. I am GAY and there's no way I'd be giving off anything other than love to the boys! It's quite pathetic really and I'll be honest, I really don't get the reasoning about not wanting to attract straight men, at the end of the day, I don't know too many TRUE lesbians who straight men would really go for.
Regarding Homesexual, I don't think they've done anything negative for Mardi Gras, rather complimented them with a recovery as soon as Sleaze ends. Homesexual and Sleaze are two very different parties and I don't believe that Homesexual will be too much competition for Sleaze. The only thing it does is give the people a quality, smaller party for half the price on the long weekend. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, personally....

Homesexual isn't really a threat, its only 2000 people and their day parties usually only attract around half that... ill be going to both.
on a long weekend nobody has a free run. there will always be partys on, always.
the problem last year was that toybox were more expensive that mardi gras which made people choose. at least homesexual will be cheap ill be going to both.
Well Bgrrl................... I'm not sure what to say.
Personally I dont give a f**k if a straigtn/lesbian/tranny is dancing/drinking/standing next to me.
Evil Twin doesnt seem to have a problem around the town ?
Any lesbian bars I have seen since coming to Sydney 25 years ago have never worked out due to a lack of support. Maybe the time is right for one to open ? but when I went to those bars with my lesbian girlf I was treated like a leper ! I'm not saying its tit for tat but the door bitch said " Oh some more AIDS spreaders" not to mention the lovely lady who just did not want us on the dance floor so continually bumped and bumped into us...........
There will always be those hard liners ie boys who hate girls and let you know it, just as their are girls who hate boys and they let us know it. But surely its not the whole scene ? I have a casual job and believe me straights still pick on straights.
As for this being your reason for not supporting the community.......hmmmmm that sounds a bit weak.
"Evil Twin doesnt seem to have a problem around the town ?"
Hehehehe! Prolly cause half the time I get mistaken for a short bloke.
I've only ever been upstairs at the Shift on specific party nights, and never bothered with downstairs. It's not my cup of tea really. But I've had the "girl germs circle" form around us at other places, where it starts off cosy until the boys realise "ACK! GIRLS!" and slowly move away, backs to us. While I carry no expectations of a nice chat and a beer with the boys, I do feel entitled to the same level of bar service and entry to a club or pub as the next pervy queer person on the strip. So, that's not asking for *different* treatment, just the *same* treatment.
Having a bit of a hibernate at present. Hope to be back into it soon.

Maybe we don't consider 2000 a threat because Homesexual simply isn't anywhere near as popular as Toy Box is... I suppose it doesn't sound fair but...
And my last comment on the whole Shift thing is that I personally feel that boys should be welcomed to lesbian places and girls should be welcomed at gay boy places - we're all gay so should feel comfortable around each other. The prejudice in my own community (lesbian) is just as absurd as prejudice from the boys. I get equally angry about both!
I agree that it's a bit weak that they are so obviously feeding off Sleaze's patrons by starting at 10am. Why doesn't Homesexual stand on its own two feet and open up Sunday night like they normall do, its very strange and lecherous.
They can't start on Sunday night like they normally do because Godskitchen, a str8 rave party, is on there on Sunday night after Homesexual. They've got Above and Beyond coming out, as well as Cosmic Gate and others.
Sleaze is a night party which I love. Homesexual and Toybox are day parties and which I hate even though they have great reputations.
So I dont see that Homesexual is feeding off Sleaze at all. Only if they put the party on the same night which they are not.
As for the just wondering post, I dont think they meant that Toybox put on a 16 hour even but whats wrong with that ? I think the poster meant have one party closing the doors at say 8am then re-opening at midday.
Anyone remember Birthday 1 and Birthday 11 at the Hordern over a decade ago ? it then caters for those who want to party at night particularly as its New Years
night and then caters as a brand new day party the next day for those who prefer the day parties or those who had to work the previous night or those who want a great
recovery party.
If Toybox sold out as quick as usual , how many would
be interested in buying tickets for NYE if they put it on as well ? I would.

Why is Toybox on 1 Jan and not on Dec 31 ?
I dont understand WHY Toybox wants to put on its party on during the day on 1 January. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me. If you're going to go to all the effort to hire out the Hordern Pavilion then use the evening of December 31 to do your set up and bump in it just not make sense to me. New Years is traditionally all about seeing in the new year at MIDNIGHT. You lose all that good will and good feeling by puting on the event the next day. I'm sorry but absolutely nothing beats that feeling you get counting down to 12am on a New Years Eve and ushering in the new year. Total strangers can become best of friends in that one magical moment in time when everyone turns to everyone and says "Happy New Year". Maybe I'm biased since I met one of my previous BF's at 12.05am on a New Years evening many years ago.
Having a party on New Years Eve is about celebrating with all of your friends the dawn of a new year. Its all about forgiving and forgetting the mistakes of the past.
Having a party on New Years Day is just (put simply) another trashy dance party on the social calandar with nothing specific to celebrate at all.

I find it interesting the amount of criticism that is given to anyone that wants to put on another party before during or after a MG event, be it Toybox or Homesexual.
Does this mean that for the punters to be happy, New Mardi Gras would have to organise the recovery for the party that is also scrutinised by anyone and everyone who is or isn’t going because a DJ is or isn’t playing house or trance or tribal or retro?
If Toybox or HS was not on then where would everyone go?
Won’t go to Arq cause it’s too straight…
The girls can’t go to the Shift as they are turned away at the door…
Won’t go to either as the music will be the same as Sleaze because only the DJ’s who play at these 2 clubs were asked to play at this year’s party….
BTW - It's not the first day party for Homesexual so it's neither strange or lecherous that for this time the doors open at 10am....

Hahahahahaha so right.
Yep posters have a right to whinge but personally I think its just getting way out of hand but then again does a poster represent the majority of peoples views ?
The only time I would consider a party leaching people from Sleaze or Mardi Gras is if they put it on the same night.
Get a grip whingers, its the next day. Some prefer the day parties and good luck to Homesexual. Should the Fri/Sat/Sun be completely banned for any other promoter putting on a party the same weekend as Sleaze/MG ?
Aiden - totally agree about the vibe thing and the countdown to midnight and the new year on the dance floor. Unfortunately have not met a boyf that way
but
have had some good snogs...............
I asked that question when I first heard of Toybox putting on the event ie if it takes a few days to fit out
the Hordern why doesnt another promoter go halves in the cost etc and put one on NYE ? or maybe if Toybox sells out their day party they could think about putting one on for NYE .
After all what would the cost be if the hall is already outfitted ? maybe Brad W could give an estimate ?
In my opinion Toybox could wrap up that whole weekend if they sell out their day party first, then sell tickets for a NYE party long before the others advertise what they are putting on.
TB on NYD
I personally don't know how popular Toybox on NYD is going to be. Most of my friends tend to go away for New Year's (Byron/Tropical Fruits this year) or if not, I don't quite see the appeal of getting absolutely twatted the day after the biggest night of the year.
I have been to a few toybox's and you usually do have to be really out of it to enjoy it, and the Hordern is a very big venue. I think it's going to be a bit of a hard sell for the toybox crew to sell out one party, let alone both nights.
I think what posters are saying is if Toybox do sell out quickly for the day party like they usually do.
Then maybe they could consider NYE party as the Hordern would all set to go.
I prefer to party on the night as well and would certainly buy a ticket for a nightime party.
Dont know what the breakeven would be for the Hordern but would assume around 3,500-4,000 but this would be
considerably lower as the hall would have been set up already for the day party.
I too hope Toybox is toying with the idea ?
i agree. tb is designed for people who are out of it. i reckon it'll be a tough one.
Mardi Gras took on the third venue when they found out Toybox would NOT be on as a day party/recovery - call it what you will.
The greed of Home to dive in and take the spot that was left vacant purposely to assist the fundraising necessity of Sleaze is just plain wrong.
You can argue all you like but, after the effect of Luna Park last Sleaze on NMG income, it's just plain wrong that a party that supposedly supports the gay community is doing this in 2006 after the 2005 experience.
So you would prefer nothing else at all to be on that weekend?
as i noted before. on a long weekend nobody has a free run. there will always be partys on, always.
are you saying you don't want anywhere to go after sleaze? one of the best aspects to the long weekend is that we don't have to stop partying!

kooky rox
Welcome home Seymour Butz. Kooky is the new Friday fun. xxx
The smaller and truly gay venues normally run day recoveries that cater for the post party continuing punters. What we are talking about here are large, more major focus type parties (Toybox, Homesexual, Fag Tag etc) that DO TAKE punters away from the main party.
Normal gay venues (which Home is not anymore) and small parties after the main party are excluded as they give those who don't know when to go home somewhere to go onto without affecting the main party, in venues that they regularly attend and feel safe within.
Sleaze pays for Mardi Gras Parade and much of the cash flow needed before the MG Party money comes back in from Ticketek. It hurts them - it hurts us - it's still, regardless of your arguments, wrong and greedy.
Yes it's easier to put the poof party on during the unused day hours so as not to interrupt their regularly scheduled programmes.
Hey how about everybody NOT going to Sleaze that weekend? What are we supposed to do - sit at home?
"Hey how about everybody NOT going to Sleaze that weekend? What are we supposed to do - sit at home?

And watch YOUR Mardi Gras disappear up it's bum hole.
Blunt, but a reality. Mardi Gras is one bad party (financialy) away from disaster, and has been for years. The reality is that Homesexual, now competing against the main party by opening at 10am should put at least $10/ticket into New Mardi Gras - the reason being that only 250 less people (1/8th to 1/6th of Home capacity) at Sleaze Ball has the same financial effect of approx. 2200 people at Home giving $10/Head donation at Homesexual. Anything else from the owner/s of Home can be taken as greed and opportunist. Let's see the reply to this demand as commission for leeching our community.
And, it follows, that any more than 250 odd people who don't go to Sleaze to instead go to Homesexual are costing OUR Mardi Gras directly multiplied by the full Sleaze Ball ticket cost. Potentially up to around 1900 x $99 (or $90 after removing GST). Work it out. Just wrong, so wrong.
Mmmmm, does this not say Greed and total exploitation of the Gay scene?
simple. toybox is a day party. 31/12 wouldn't make sense....
i don't go to day parties myself so won't be going....
there will always be competition its healthy
Health and Greed are at opposite end of vices
After all the flack Toybox copped last year re going up against Sleaze Ball you would think that other dance party organizers would be wise to the crap that would be thrown at them if they tried to jump into the void left by no Toybox on Sleaze weekend. I cant believe how dumb and just plain brash the organizers of Homesexual are.
In my opinion it’s an utter disgrace and shows that their alleged support for the G&L community just isn’t as genuine as one is lead to believe.
"toybox is a day party. 31/12 wouldn't make sense...."
Toyboxes HAVE BEEN day parties, doesn't always have to be that way. 31/12 COULD HAVE made perfect sense....
so what would we all do if homesexual wasnt on?
Well I am one of those avoiding Sleaze but going to Homersexual. Why? Because Mardi Gras has effectively jacked up the price enormously by charging the same amount for a significantly smaller party this year.
Rather than using the Hordern and RHI we now only have the hordern for no reduction in ticket price. I don't know if you call it sensible, greedy, cynical or what, but if a private party operator did that you'd scream.
Won’t go to Arq cause it’s too straight…

Won’t go to either as the music will be the same as Sleaze because only the DJ’s who play at these 2 clubs were asked to play at this year’s party….

I find it interesting when people complained about the Sleaze selection method, we were howled down saying NMG had to compete as a commercial party.
Now people are bitching about other commercial parties competing with Sleaze.
you can't have it both ways. either NMG competes as a commercial party or it doesn't
You missed the point of my post totally - it was to do with not having any other party on the long weekend rather than having a go at Arq or the shift or sleaze...
If you bothered to read previous posts, these are words used by people complaining about Arq on Fridays/Saturdays, girls who complain about not being allowed into the Shift and who was/wasn't asked/chosen to play at Sleaze this year.....I was being sarcastic which, you my friend failed to pick up on
Yes I've read the line up and don't have a problem with who is playing - it's not the end of the world for me if my fave DJ does not play.
If you really need to know the last time I went to Arq - I can't remember and was at the shift upstairs 2 weeks ago. And, BTW I'm 34, like that makes a difference?
Does anyone know if Fag Tag or DTPM are doing anything on the long weekend?
I cannot beleive that posters think Sleaze/MG have the right to be the only ones to put on a party on those weekends !
I dont care what your reasoning is. Could these other promoters claim DISCRIMINATION ? you bet they could. Funny how reverse discrimination causes a lot of screaming.
To me Homesexual is not competition as its the next day.
Competition would be another party on the same night.
I have friends who love the day parties.
As callous as it sounds if NMG cant hold there own ? then
bye bye.
Oh and by the way , I am going to Sleaze.
There are some posters on this wall who will not be happy unless all other parties on the MG and Sleaze weekends are cancelled and we are all forced to go to MG or Sleaze only. I'm sorry, but it's a competitive world out there. If NMG wants to sell tickets, then it's up to them to put on a party that's going to attract punters. Not everyone is happy to pay a premium price for the "dark dirty tribal" or "commercial handbag" on offer at this year's Sleaze, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that some people might want to attend other parties instead.
Dannii
Can anyone tell me when Dannii will be performing at homesexual on Thursday? I don't want to get there TOO early....
Dannii on stage
Sometime around 11.30ish I've heard, although given her penchant for being late to everything on this promo tour, I'd say more like 12.30-1am ish for a half hour show. Should be fun though!

Have you stopped for one minute to think what they are doing is a good thing cinsidering what happened to them last year? RHI *whatever*. They have advertised Hordern, Dome and The Forum. To me thats says three different music styles, not two like last year. Have you seen the DJ line up. Try getting that DJ line up at a homesexual party, it would never happen. From what I understand of fox the capacity will be the same as last year just in a different configuration. How is that jacking up a price a smaller party? Me thinks you should get your facts right before posting. I personally have my sleaze tickets and im looking forward to it. I hope you enjoy homesexual with another NY based jack hammer sounding DJ.
Just wanted to put in a good word for Day Parties.
I love them!
They make the working week so much easier to deal with.
You can walk in the door fresh and get straight into it, no waiting around for hours getting drunk waiting till 1 am before anyone starts to dance.
With regards to New year I would much prefer to spend NYE with friends somewhere civil, get some sleep then head out in the morning when the rif raf have headed back to the burbs. Toybox not really my thing but looks promising.
With regards to Sleeze I will be there entertaining tourists but see no problem with 'Home' opening in the morning, good business sense I think. Could be fun providing they don't over sell it. (personaly will never set foot in there ever again).
In fact I plead with everyone to go to 'home' so that we can get into Manacle..
Let's hope she's smiling after this:
http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,20138462-5001026,00.html
OK that would make sense... Have they sold out yet?
I wonder if having Kylie onstage in London helped her album sales over there? Wasn't that a similar launch event?
The Homesexual website has been saying only 100 tickets left since last week. Either ticket sales have really slowed down since then, or there has been some exageration..
...or maybe they havent updated their website.
Steve Carley
Heard a rumour floting around that ex 1990's Mardi Gras / Arq / Shift DJ Steve Carley died a while back (how long back I have no idea). Is anybody able to confirm this and if so when did it happen ?

Mardi Gras DJs
A current poll on the Mardi Gras site shows that most punters think that "Local DJs rule!". OF COURSE they do, but can't stepping outside our box be a good thing too? Bringing just ONE international name to the big party doesn't take up TOO much space and can potentially bring us a musical flavour we haven't tasted. I, for one, will vote to bring Offer Nissim (hopefully to the 30th Anniversary Party). Offer (from Israel) is easily one of the most talented, exciting, energetic DJs on the party circuit (he dances with and conducts the crowd). He's teamed up with Maya to bring us some amazing songs (First Time, Better Off Alone, On My Own), and his remixes of other artists are stunning. Check him out if you get the chance - he's playing Pacha NY Aug 26th if you're interested!

I can neither deny or confirm but I did see Steve about 4 months back and he was alive and well then. I haven't heard anyting to the contrary since and I think I would have heard if it were true. I very much hope it isn't!
Any news on Homesexual's birthday?
Any reports on Danni and last night?
Thats fine you like overseas DJ's and one in particular but what you have to remember here is the MAJORITY have voted against so you have to accept that decision.
Of course feel free to cast a vote for Offer.
After 20 years of these parties , I can honestly say its the minority of the overseas DJ's who have ever been good and the majority just did not know the Sydney scene therefore people did not like them. How many parties have you done ? The only ones that I still remember are Rachel Auburn ( blew the Hordern away ) and Lisa German both ladies from the UK.
I remember sitting in the bleachers of the Hordern bored with the DJ that was on. They announced Rachel and there was none of this artsy fartsy lead in la la la la type
beginning. She just went WHACK and was straight into the you could see the surge onto the floor.
Dannii was great! although it was bit weird for a 'dance party'. Everyone stood around facing the stage for a few hours, then cleared out as soon as she sung her last note. She was great though.
I agree with you that NMG should at least bring out one os dj for Mardi Gras Party instaed of opting for same same. I agree would luv to hear Offer Nissim do a set in the Hordern - he'd blow the roof off. Personally I think that is what NMG are aiming for as I have noticed 'Local DJ's rule' selection has been relegated to the bottom of the list. Come on punters vote for your fav OS DJ!!!!

you also have to remember - the people voting for local talents is a group of friends voting everyday just to keep the score high.
peter rauhofer (not sure why) is still a "god" in our clubs depsite he hasnt done anything for ages.
kleinenberg, tomiie, nissim - most of the people have got NO idea who they are. i dont blame them either, theres no chance to hear any of them because djs are busy playing freemasons, paris hilton, rogue traders, shakira and aguilera.
sorry to dissapoint you but the poll does not indicate anything AT ALL.
I do think that having high profile international DJ and giving a chance to local unknowns are mutually exclusive. Didn't they have a competition for local up-and-coming DJs to have a go last Mardi Gras? No reason not to have the same again AND an international DJ, if that is what the punters want...
Oh, Saw Damian Saint DJing in MOS Singapore and in spite of the location and the crowd - was absolutely fantastic.
Mardi Gras is an international party. It is not just a Sydney party. Lots of people from overseas come to Mardi Gras. Sleaze (with or without the Ball) is the local party.
New Mardi Gras needs to cater to the national and international visitors as well as the local Sydney people. I believe that having an international DJ helps sell the party to internationals. For Mardi Gras I believe an international DJ is justified. For Sleaze keep it local.

However a dance party it was not. It was merely a promotional visit for her compilation album and her new song which is rather forgettable.
But anyway, can you confirm whether she actually sang or just mimed?
Mardi Gras' ostrich syndrome
I went to toybox a couple of weeks ago at the Metro and I have to say it had some of the happiest funkiest soul-inspiring hands in the air dj-ing and music I've experienced since I can't remember when and the crowd loved it. amazing energy. I've been attending dance parties since 1989 and I must say that over the last 7 or 8 years the major parties like mardi gras and sleaze ball have become dictated in their music selection more by the dj worship cult and less about putting on dj's who will play music that the mass crowd actually want to hear and dance to. Mardi Gras just sticks it's head in the sand and hasn't listened to any of the general criticism of it's parties about music over the last however many years. A major GAY DANCE PARTY should offer music that is GAY-FRIENDLY that you actually want to DANCE to. Or am I just being fussy?

Mardi Gras is Australia's party Arti so why not showcase
Australian DJ's ?
A lot of countries have their own Mardi Gras/Parade's etc and this is ours and we should show the world what we can
do with our lighting/dj's etc.
I think posters have short memories about how many overseas
DJ's we have had at our parties over the decades and very few were every successful as they did not know our scene and people rightfully complained.
And to " Fri 18 Aug 2006 16:45:50 " you now say the voting on our local DJ's is tainted by friends voting for them ? but its OK for you and your mates to ask for Nissim
and others ? Puh-lease. Thats the excuse offered by the minority who lose out on a vote.
So Arti, this is one poster who disagrees with you. Its
our Mardi Gras and we should show the world our DJ's.
The response to overseas DJs at the parties has been generally negative, why spend the money when we have local DJs who people actually enjoy dancing to?
We dont need to duplicate whats going on overseas.
Lets innovate not replicate.

DTPM - Long weekend?
Will there be one for long weekend? Has anyone heard??
i'm sorry but this is such a dumb post. opinion is opinion is opinion but it still needs to be based on some sort of fact - how on earth can substantiate a claim of 'dj worship cult'???
also its interesting to read the post and then flick across to the Sleaze wall where the words 'dream' line up are being use.
i also remember being half crushed to death by an amazing array of the sexiest men ever in the dome at mardi gras this year... it was 100% going off in there...
and then i think back to other sleaze parties - remember Lisa Germains set a few years ago with mandy and feisty's back to back? The entire hordern was going absolutely mental dancing their tits off.
really... most mgs and sleazes have something for everyone if you look hard enough...
Yes and a lot of the overseas parties invite DJ's from other countries (including Australia) to play. So what's wrong with NMG inviting just one DJ over to play. He/She would only be doing one set in one hall. I think it would be good value for local/interstate & os punters. Like someone said Mardi Gras is part of the international party circuit - so why not act like one.

DTPM
Reports on Friday night DTPM?
I think it's hilarious to hear how much some people can whinge when there is only ONE overseas DJ playing in one hall for a few hours at a party with numerous locals playing otherwise. I guess that some of the overseas DJs who've been selected to play haven't always been the best choices - for example, 4strings, although he has produced some great tracks, is definitely NOT a highly ranked trance DJ and there are a lot of other internationals who could have done a much better job on the night.
Unfortunately, it seems a lot of people who go to MG and Sleaze only want to hear their favourite DJ play their favourite tracks - expanding their musical horizons is not something on the agenda at their favourite big dance party each year. Although I'd love to hear a great international play at MG or Sleaze, I know it's not going to happen with these attitudes and opinions (and with NMG wanting to save money). For those who want to hear a good international, the only option is to go to a straight party - although the crowd is never as good as what you might get at a gay party, at least it's a fraction of the price of what you'll pay to hear all locals and the same music you can hear at a nightclub on any other weekend of the year. :p
"So what's wrong with NMG inviting just one DJ over to play. He/She would only be doing one set in one hall."
This statement is true but what tends to be a problem is that NMG have this idea in their head that everytime an OS DJ comes to play at our parties that they be given preferential treatment over the locals giving the OS DJ's longer sets that eat away at the available hours for our hard working locals to play.
The two most recent glaring examples of this are -
1. That ridiculous 10 hour set New Mardi Gras offered that Dutch trance DJ (4 Strings) at Mardi Gras 2005
2. Mardi Gras this year - Brett Henrichsen (USA) was given an extra 1.5 or 2 hours in the RHI compared to everyone else thereby squeezing out the locals into frustratingly shorter sets.
I'm OK about letting ONE overseas DJ play our parties but ONLY if he or she gets equal treatment to the local DJ's and doesn't get offered longer sets compared to the locals

Toybox seem to get it right with their dj selection. I would assume that given the high production values of the promoters for the party that the same high production values are done by the dj's selected when choosing their playlists and it shows. The selection of Ryan Murphy, Chip, Steven Hales and Les Smith was spot on. All these dj's are from Sydney except Les Smith who is a 25 year veteran of the club scene in Brisbane. They all have a great love of dance music and knew exactly what to play and when. It shows that not just Sydney but Brisbane and other capitals produce fantastic dj's so why get an international dj who obviuously hasn't done their homework to play at Mardi Gras and Sleaze. Showcase the dj's that we have here in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide etc.

I'm sure overseas visitors want to come to MG to hear overseas DJ's.
The majority have voted against it.
The majority of past overseas DJ's didnt work.
Its our NMG/Sleaze so lets show them our DJ's from all over Australia.
Not everyone does a club/party every week so we dont get bored with the DJ's.
I must agree. The only reason I voted for Local DJ's Rule is that I hadn't heally heard of any of the OS dj's that were mentioned on the site. Not sure who I'd like to hear play... maybe Tiesto or something like that... I actually think they should have give specific local DJ names as they're not ALL good and maybe offered up some other internatianal DJs that were a little more known or had the option "don't know any of the above dj's so can't vote". It really does mean nothing... hate to say it! Although, I must admit, I don't mind hearing from someone a bit different at a dance party, even though it doesn't necessarily mean it's always going to be good (just look at Junior Vasquez - he was shite in my opinion).

Wow. It's amazing to me how many people complain about how MG produce their parties but I wonder how many of the complainers are MG members or volunteer for MG?? Who went to the open forum they held in Petersham about a year ago? I have done all three and let me tell you, re the open forum, party people were few and far between! So, without wishing to sound like someone from MG, how about you whingers out there get off your arses and DO SOMETHING rather than simply complaining? Why not volunteer for the Sleaze working party or become a Mardi Gras member and have your voice heard (the more members they have, the more money they have, therefore, the better parties they can produce!) or attend the forums they have!! It's not hard, people, and it doesn't take very much! Far out, if you can afford a couple of pills for a party, you can afford a little MG membership!

Dannii was great... She did sing live (albiet her mike was turned down slightly and the backing music helped her through some rough bits. But these are picky complaints, I know) and she looked like she was having a great time. Pretty much everyone cleared out of the place after she finished, myself and my friends included. There just seemed to be nothing else to hold our attention after that. Maybe if they had've put on some queens later, or something? It seemed like the whole night was geared towards Dannii and not much in the way of actually 'celebrating' their 1st birthday...

Not everyone can get to these forums because of work
ie afternoon shits/late shifts.
Other dont live in the inner city area so have to travel
hours or intersate or from overseas.
Pinkboard is a fantastic forum for people to air their opinions no matter what city/country/time zone you are in.
Thats why they are called Forums.
Sure some are bitchy but most people ignore the bitchy/
sarcastic remarks even get a good laugh at the cat fights
that ensure but there are posters here who offer up
reasonable opinions.
so what do people think of some of the other big international DJ's and should NMG try to bring them out?
My suggestions would be:
Tiesto
Roger Sanchez
Armin Van Burren
Paul Van Dyk
Hernan Catteneo (probably a little too serious for most queens - minimal vocals!)
Paul Oakenfold
Above and Beyond
Gabriel & Dresden
Erick Morillo
Sander Kleinenberg
My friends and I do check out a lot of both gay and straight events, I have a feeling that some people reading this forum may have never heard of some of the DJ's listed above. Keen to know though.
The Shifts 25th Birthday
Well don to the shift. Saturdays 25th Birthday was simply one of the best parties & the greatest crowds I can remember. Even at 6.00am the place was fully packed & to Criss Cox (brilliant).

Can somebody please tell me where it is written down that says you have to be a volunteer or a member of NMG to have an opinion on a topic relating to MG run parties ?
I'm sooo sick of people having a go at us alleged "whingers" on the pretext and presumption that we don't make a contribution to NMG via volunteerism or membership. Get off your high horse I say !!!
We make a valuable contribution everytime we attend these events because - We are afterall the PAYING CUSTOMERS !
I think that's a pretty good list. My wish list:
Armin van Buuren
Above & Beyond
Tiesto (but he's probably too expensive)
Markus Schulz
Marco V
Max Graham
The Thrillseekers
Totally agree. I am not normally a Shift fan, but more nights and mornings like that one and I could become the greatest fan.
Criss Cox was absolutely brilliant. I could not believe how many times he had the crowd lifted only to do it again and again.
Give me more more more of that please. And yes, the crowd - awesome!

Chris Cox
If Chris Cox was really that brilliant then I think we FINALLY have a decent overseas candidate for selection at Mardi Gras next year. Brad Wright , Are you listening ?

Happy Bday
Happy first birthday to Homesexual. It is great to see that in one year you have increased your price almost 100% from $30 to $50+ for the next Sleaze party. It's great to know that you haven't learnt any lessons from the mistakes of the once great Queer Nation that continued to hike up their ticket price every party until they sadly hiked it up one time too many.
Happy birthday Homesexual, but if you keep doing this you're not going to make the next one!
Would have to agree with you. It was as good as any Toybox,Homesexual,M/G or Sleaze ive been to. Can't believe how friendly and well behaved the crowd were. Our group left at 6.00am and the place was packed. As for Chriss Cox I believe he has raised the bar for DJ's. He lifted the crowd again & again throughout his 6 + hrs of music. Well done the shif for the best party you have ever put on and heres to anither 25 yrs.

i imagine the ticket price 'hike' is due to them bringing tony moran to australia... he cant be cheap..
Agreed!
It was the friendliest crowd that I have seen for ages. I don't think I've been to the shift when it has been so packed yet everyone was cool and smiles all round.
Chris Cox played like I've never heard (my ears are still ringing), particularly the last hour when he played some thunderpuss gold!

Have to agree with you all. The best that the shift has ever put on and possily any party in Sydney. All the DJ's were great but I agree that Chriss Cox blew the lid off the place. He played the crowd like Iv'e never heard before in any venue. Well done The Shift. We left at 7.00am and the place was still packed to the roof. To eryone involved including Management, Security, the DJ's and the great crowd, thanks for the most memorable night weve had out in years.

Unity & Shift's Birthday
Yes well, still feeling a little under the weather after recovery at Manacle yesterday - great day with everyone behaving for an extremely pleasant change.
Friday night was Ruby's Unity party that I had the pleasure to work on with Ruby, Shane (on his 21st - what a birthday present), Stephen Simpson, and the ever sexy Scott Anderson. Always a pleasure to be beside Brad Wright on lights. The system was a challenge but one hopes the result was acceptable to the very Ruby crowd - lots of good mates and fun people, and, of course, great uplifting trance, predominantly vocal.
Shift's Birthday: The warm up with Shigeki during the Invite drinks and first open was superb followed by Chip's thumping pace led into a 6 hour set of the nicest guy from LA, Chris Cox.
During soundchecks I watched the way Chris used every effect on a supplied outboard FX unit (Pioneer EFX500) and every feature on the Pioneer CDJ1000s - most DJs use some but this was something different - this was an art form of a specialist (little surprise as he's a major producer).
Producers also understand levels and Chris certainly took the system at the Shift to the limit (and had me constantly on my toes) but balanced that with highs and lows to build the crowd to a frenzy then down then back up. He went a little 'heavier' around 4am, no doubt as a contrast, but then from 5am he built and built to an awesome 'take em home' hour from 6-7am.
Not surprisingly, more than half the regular DJs in the gay scene of Sydney were there, no doubt partially to celebrate the Shift's milestone, but also to hear one of the world's great producers. Did not see Brad but I'm sure he'll get feedback.
All in all an awesome night with the sexiest masculine crowd I've seen in there in a while. It reminded me of every night in the Shift ten years or more ago.
In postscript, let's wish Shigeki the best wishes as he leaves this Wednesday to DJ on the Atlantis cruise in the Mediterranean. Wonderful honour for one of our favourite boys. xo

phyllis in again
a good dj plays to the crowd. I've found in the past you may get one good set in the rhi of anthems/hands in the air/handbag type music which was traditionally what the rhi was all about and it gets the crowd off their tits and then you get a change of dj and it's suddenly techno/trance/jungle or whatever and the energy crashes and people leave in droves. that style of dance music has always traditionally been in the horden, the smaller of the two venues. but over the years there has been a gradual blurring of the distinctive sounds of these two venues. when the rhi goes off it's on handbag, there's no denying that. it's what the majority of partygoes wants in that venue but that's not necessarily the case these days. it's time for the mardi gras to get back to basics and what is more basic at a dance party than getting the music right in the appropriate venues for the majority of partygoers.

Shift Birthday
Despite multiple posts on the topic, noone yet has given a clear description of what style of music Chris Cox played on Sat night. Saying that "he built the crowd to a frenzy" doesn't really narrow it down, cos you can do that with house, trance, tribal, or any other genre of dance music for that matter.
Well is all I can say is that you should have been there to experience the night.
CHRIS COX RAVE'S
Well from the above posts it appears NMG should cancel their Mardi Gras DJ poll and sign up Chris Cox immediately. If he had such an impact in the Shift upstairs imagine what he will be like in the Hordern.....I for one would be lining up straight away to get my tix to the party.

We were a group of 10 (including a couple of DJ friends)that went to the Shifts Birthday and we all agree it was the best we have experienced in at least the past decade (including some major overseas venues). All the DJs done a great job but Chriss Cox really did blow the lid off the place with his set. He kept the entire crowd in a frenzy for the entire time. If any promotor needs a great DJ they need to book him. We all left at 7.00am and could have stayed for hours, but i guess we all needed the rest.I agree that the crowd was the best I have experienced for years (hot men & so well behaved)So the all involved in the night a very sincere thankyou.

I'm starting to suspect that there was something in the air-con that night at the Shift, since there has been almost universal praise about how good the music was, without anyone being able to actually describe what style of music was played.
We are all going to leave you in suspence as to what was played. (or is it we cant remember)
Well. Pretty obviously, it was great music. I assume that the only reason that people who weren't there want to categorise it is to declare it "not great music" because it doesn't meet their narrow specification of what great music has to be.
Revolutionary idea, I know, but maybe you just had to be there and kind of go with the flow
Come on, I don't think it's a trick questions being asked. Did Chris Cox play house or trance or tribal or Indian bongos or what?
Yeah, sounds like it....also a bit of the old 'nah nah na nah nah.....you weren't there and we were' type comments......great!!!
Chris Cox mixed up quite a few of your 'rigid' sytles over the 6 hours he played. It was legendary journey stuff that only the very best can master.
yes "rigid" styles.
Happy now?
Chris Cox played the sound he was made famous in the late 90s. Perhaps "girly hi nrg trance/ hard house" is the most fitting description. Kinda Paul Goodyear-y. Nothing new, nothing revolutionary, nothing that we havent heard before. Pretty please condider that Mr Brad Light Wright before you book him!!

no miracles - we heard it all before. he mixed it well but he played what our djs play too. goodyear does it at arq every week and we dont read anything about it here on pinkboard. it is not just goodyear - do you people listen to other djs we have?
if cox was playing music nobody knew - something new and exciting would we be reading the same? doubt it.
he mixed it very well - thats what was special about his set. i had a good time. crowd was ok - nothing special. just people who dont go out every week.
thank you midnight shift! ...maybe more intl djs who dont play circuit music
I have a feeling those screaming for overseas DJ's are just the punters who hit Oxford St clubs quite regularly.
Those of us who dont are quite happy to have a DJ play who knows the Australian scene ie our own locals.
In the past I've heard and read good reviews on DJ Josh
from Adelaide I think ? Les Smith from Brisbane ? etc
so maybe to please the regular party goers we should bring in some inter-staters to give them something new instead of "possibly" wasting money on an overseas DJ who usually expects Business class tickets and a 4 or 5 star hotel. I'm sure our inter-staters wouldnt be so
demanding/costly.
We all know there are great overseas DJ's but you posters have got to realise where us oldies who have seen quite a few overseas DJ's are coming from when we vote no. The majority of them have been spectacular duds.

Thank you LeatherDude!
I was at the Shift's birthday. So great to see the hermits out fo a party. Put the music (in my humble opinion) was kinda average. It was like a normal Arq set from last year. (not that theres anything wrong with that) But Chris Cox was just kicking down open doors.
Happy Birthday Shift!
How does one "kick down an open door" when its already open ? Is that an oxymoron or am I just a moron ?
Tropical Fruits
Any Pinkboard posters heading up to Byron Bay for Tropical Fruits over the long weekend?
They really know how to party up north!
Tropical Fruits will hopefully not feel the effect of Toybox being on too much. This is Gay Sydney and we should be able to keep at least 5000 people over the new year break in Sydney plus have the usual 1000+ head to Lismore - after all, there must be 300,000 of us lurking around.
There's always the first flights back from Lismore on the morning of the 1st so you can do both... pretty sight that will be.
We'll be in Trop this year. If you are going, make sure you have your accom organised, like about now. It gets booked out pretty quickly. While camping may seem like a good idea at the time, air con is much better to recover in.

Did anyone else just get an email from Slide and Shift asking for votes in the DIVA awards? Very funny they were just minutes apart!
Got the emails as well. Quite funny really when Slide doesn't support the Drag community anywhere near what the Shift and even Arq does. Cabaret have their own Awards and the venue should try and get a nomination in those. DIVAs are for Gay venues that support gay entertainers. Choice easy really.

I think Slide is doing a good job of finding a niche in the market. They do support gay artistes and shows, just not your cheap miming drag shows done at Arq or Shift or the other pubs.
My vote will go to Midnight Shift for it's Queen shows, but having said that their current Friday night effort is total crap in my opinion. It's supposed to be based on the X Men but didnt seem that way. Poor music, poor choreography, odd costumes, and performers who looked like they wanted to be elsewhere.
In the words of one of the songs (played too LOUD), "I don't llike it; I don't understand it"
"just not your cheap miming drag shows done at Arq or Shift or the other pubs"
That's DRAG whoever you may be.
It's fine not to like it but thank God we have the DIVAs to recognise that "cheap miming drag shows done at Arq or Shift or the other pubs"
The DIVAs do not reflect what Slide is doing - not a go at Slide, just fact. They are doing specialist Dance and Cabaret, which is fine and great, just not what the DIVAs cover.
You don't have to crap on the hardworking girls to put your vote in for Slide.
what are you talking about slide is gay, they even have the gay rainbow in there logo they do have drag shows but if you read there email they are looking for most popular venue not best drag show my vote will certainly go to them and to the imperial for drag show
Farewell Paul Goodyear
Just heard last night that Paul Goodyear is leaving Australia to work in the UK. His farewell gig will be at Arq this Saturday. Apparently he will be flying back to Sydney to do Sleaze.
Good luck Paul!
There's a party on Saturday 30th September.....hmmmmmm.
I booked my accomodation this week - it was a bit of a hassle, and ended up having to contact the Lismore Visitors Centre. They called around (all the hotels and stuff) and I was told there wasn't much left at all; so if you want to stay in Lismore, I'd recommend calling now.
Tropical Fruits are having a small party in a club in Lismore on September 30th - that's hardly competition to Sydney, surely?
Yeah, but it's at the Italo Club right in Lismore, so whilst it will be fun, don't expect it to be anything like NYE if you're coming up specially for it.
HOWEVER, the very important news is that NYE Trop Fruits tix go on sale next Friday YAAAAAY. No info on price yet, but who cares...I'd go no matter how much they're charging. Get in quick peeps cos I reckon a lot of punters in Sydney will be heading north for this one.

So does Stephen do the same artwork for both parties? Having a look through their previous events, they also have an "Xtreme" and a "Black". Is there some kind of synergy going on between the Homesexual and Allegria or is it just cloning..

Since Gotham City has always meant NYC, I think Alegria had it and it was borrowed for Homesexual.
You weren't supposed to notice!
...because the New York Gotham City party has been advertised for months, whereas Homesexual has been about a week and a half.
Hi All. I believe the trance party that Ryan speaks of is Unity at Arq - DJs Ruby, RM, Shane & Stephen Simpson. Details at www.rubydance.com.au.
Trance fans rejoice!
Well thank God. On the night of Sleaze Ruby and Co. are putting on a trance only party - Unity - at Arq. Hooray.
Ruby, Steven Simpson, Ryan Murphy and Shane Wiles DJing.. should be a good night. Glad that we'll be catered for over the weekend.
Plus money from the tickets is going to Mardi Gras which is also great.
Well done Ruby team.
Homesexual has nothing to do with Alegria...
It's pretty embarrasing that home has completely ripped off the theme for their labour day weekend party - not only using the gotham theme but also adding the "extreme" tag that alegria uses for harder/tribal parties geared towards the leather boys.
Homesexual is NO Alegria!!!
Did Homesexual actually expect that no one would notice that they ripped it off? Sad sad sad.

So whats with the new night on at the flinders with mandy rollins and feisty, sounds like a true tribal night, back to the good old days. any one going to check it out??
Who cares if it's not original? Isn't the only thing that matters that it's a good party in itself? Why should it bother anyone IF the idea has been copied with or without permission. So long as the party is good and the punters are being entertained for the price of the ticket, that should be all that counts. Man, the Homesexual team seem to get a big of a flogging on here... I don't get it.
who's going to diva?
I care if it's not original. Sydney should be good enough and big enough to come up with original ideas of our own, don't you think?
I think it makes the whole Sydney scene seem second-rate if the best we can offer is regurgiated verbatim from overseas.
I doubt that Alegria has any ownership of the words "Extreme" or "Gotham City" (A DC Comics creation) nor that Home would need a licence to use them in another country.
But it's heaps better than their old Cirue Du Soleil themes that fell flat.
DIVA
YaY! Finally it's here. I'm not a drag queen but I have had some of the best night of my life at this event. DCM for the after party should go off ! I haven't been there for a number of years so hopefully will have some great flash backs as soon as I get there.
It's one of those nights where everyone makes an effort to look nice and act GAY. I can't think of anything more entertaining than seeing a well known drag stumble past at 5 in the morning with their face sliding down the side of their head ! Bring it on. Good luck to all the nominees.

I would encourage people to go to sleaze however if you are a fan of the Trance and you would like an alternative event to support your insatiable habit then your wish has been granted. Unity is on (from the makers of Ruby and all things naturally good) at ARQ on the same night. The discerning Trance aficionado will be tempted with the ‘big beat’ accompanied by heavenly vocals, sumptuous strings and exhilarating synth stings. Behind the wheels of steel we have some exciting new talent and of course veteran trance masters. A journey will pursue that will take you right through to the new day, where you will enjoy a clarity of vision that surpasses none. Euphoria? Perhaps… fucking good dance music; absolutely Tickets at www.rubydance.com.au Donation to NMG.

I am SO there.Tribal in the Flinders...I think it's gonna work!
What an amazing night it was, fabulous frocks all round and lots of shocks with some of the awards, even though the majority of the awards were won by the Shift or it's performer's!! Which makes you think about where the loyalties are with some of the board of DIVA. Had a great time with the group of friends that went along with until the small hours of the morning :oP

Parties on Long Weekend
Will be coming up from Melb to Syd for the long weekend and trying to workout which parties to do besides the main ones.
Does anyone know what parties are happening on Sunday night ?
Will there be a DPTM ?
Is there an Indulgence on the Shift?
Rumour has it that Paul Goodyear couldn't be bothered turning up to his last Sydney DJ shift at Manacle on Sunday. Also on good authority is that an extensive Audio Visual farewell presentation was put together over 20 hours by Ian Gordon and Andrew from Manacle, let alone farewell presents etc.
Rado and Mark Alsop covered the hours but that's not really the point.
Poor form - very poor form. Hope London is very, very kind.
There is no Indulgence on the Sleaze weekend.
im so happy they are back to saturday nights, its were they belong. cant wait to move to sexy tunes all night.
Well done girls nice to have you back

It was my understanding that Paul Finished at Manalce the week before. Perhaps there was some mis-comunication?
No Indulgence?
Bugger! That was the only party I was going to the entire long weekend!
I will definately be in Lismore. It is a superb community party.
Thanks to the tropical friuts boys and girls we have a genuinely good quality and reasonably priced party to go to.
I have been for the last 3 years and like everyone else I booked my hotel room when I checked out last year.
Very much looking forward to it .......and see you on the beach every one.
"Very much looking forward to it .......and see you on the beach every one.
Damon - Wed 30 Aug 2006 21:17:39"
Not this Damon. After 2 very wonderful (albeit extremely tiring) years up in Lismore, this year I'll be here with the Toybox team at the Hordern and trying to do both would just be a little mad (he says checking the flight availability - joke Joyce).
I am absolutely certain though that Darryl and Paul and the Tropical Fruits team will, once again, produce a wonderful party experience.
And, as previously mentioned, you can always fly back on the morning of Jan 1st for the inaugural Box at the Hordern.
Bless all who create a gay space at New Year!

In the Mix Top 50 Australian DJ's Awards Night
Just got home from the ITM Top 50 Australian DJ's awards night and wanted to congratulate the 4 Gay and Lesbian DJ's who have made it into the Top 50 Aussie DJ's.
Congratulations go to Josh, Kate Monroe, Alex Taylor and (I think for the first time) Dan Murphy.
Well done guys.
Brad Wright
P.S.
Be great to see more of our GLBTQ DJ's featured next year, get voting next year guys, all the info on this years and other years winners can be found at:

Hi Noisy Gypsy,
Can you lay to rest whether Toybox is toying with doing something in the Hordern on New Years Eve ?
Your reply could settle some posters down and let some of us getting on with planning our NYE.
Interesting to note that Sveta didn't make it into the top 50 dj's, however I see that she's scored a pair of headphones for herself in a competition. One must wonder if it's from voting for herself?
Diva DJ of the year
Who won the Diva DJ of the year on Monday night ?
Dan Murphy. Winners are listed on www.divaawards.com.au.
Hey J Girl , watch out for that full stop after the "au' . Its a killer , completely butchers your link
And so this year it was Dan Murphy who managed to shmooze and lobby for the most votes hehehe
BEYOND @ THE CAGE
Anyone else headin down to Melb to warmup for Sleaze at Beyond Black Party....... its their six birthday bash @ The Cage? A great venue - dark and dirty.........

I have no specific knowledge of anything other than that the Team will be spending that whole NYE period running up to Noon on January 1st getting the venue ready for an amazing Toybox.
Currently listening to: On Hold Music - At work
Given the advertising for the 3rd birthday at Manacle, it seems pretty hard that someone would ignore that they were supposed to DJ at it.
"Uplifting Trance is neither sleazy nor sexy, and so doesn't really fit the bill. As a music style it has been omitted from this years (Sleaze) party.
Now this has created a problem for lots of people who like Uplifting Trance, and we know of many people who have said that they will not go to the party, preferring to stay at home instead.
Sleaze Ball is an extremely important fund raiser for Mardi Gras. It gives them much needed funds to enable them to mount events which form the backbone of the Mardi Gras festival, and without these funds, Mardi Gras cannot survive. So, we actively encourage everyone to go the Sleaze Ball.
But, if you are one of the people that was going to stay at home because there was no music to your taste, we have an option for you - please read on.
Saturday 30th September we have combined forces with Arq Sydney to present our next "Unity" event.
Held in the Arena, this follows on from the amazing success of our last event (we finally stopped at 7am).
AND, so that you can still contribute to Mardi Gras, we are donating 20% of the door price to Mardi Gras."
From Ruby newsletter. And very nicely put - it's not about attacking Sleaze at all - it's about complementing the music styles available on the long weekend, regardless of the venues used.
thought they have an international and whatever they call it its not indulgence
No fingers to cross. Have confirmation from the Shift that there is no Indulgence on the Sunday night.
"Your reply could settle some posters down and let some of us getting on with planning our NYE."
Just to answer your question...
The Toybox team *will NOT* be doing a NYE event. They are doing a NEW YEARS DAY event and that is all.
Rumours abound about the Shift for the Sunday night after Sleaze and if the one I heard is correct, it will be very special - as good as, if not better, than the 25th Birthday recently.
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!
No Post-Sleaze Toybox,
A Homesexual Day Party instead
No Indulgence
No NYE at the Hordern
A bad day without Goodyear....

Australias Gay Cruise sues P&O and wins
Hey guys
I have just hearda rumour
AllGayCruises.com.au
have signed a million dollar contract with Carnival Australia to take over the entire ship for Navigaytion
next year and it is now ALL GAY!
The rumour mill also says
that the owners of All Gay Cruises took P&O to court and sued them for discrimination and won! and they even got the cruise cheaper as compensation which means that the cruise is still on with it being a full charter
and P&O have NO say on anthing that happens on the cruise caused they have hired the boat out to them for the charter. which means they are going to be having HUGE dance parties and heaps of DJ's, just like the american ones
It was settled out of court this week, and P&O dont want it getting into the media that they were sued.
my friend works for a lawyer that knows the lawyer that took on the case and won for All Gay Cruises.
They also heard that P&O have to cancel off all the st8's who were booked on the cruise, cause it has gone to a charter and All Gay Cruises now are selling the entire ship to all Gay travellers.
Now that is why All Gay Cruises have started up their advertisments again I see in SX and DNA and they layed low for so long with publicity on the cruise to sort it out
The GAYS win again! good on to All Gay Cruises they work hard at what they did for getting the cruise all gay
So is anyone going to the Eclipse party at arq tonight? A blackout party sounds kinda dirty.... and fun!
No, saving myself for TRIBE tomorrow night at the flinders
What's the food like at Mr Mary's?
Tribe (and congratulations to Mandy)
Congrats to Mandy on her 10 year anniversary of DJ'ing. I think the actual date is around Sleaze, but celebrations will be at Tribe!
Hope that everyone who has fond memories of Mandy's sets at the numerous nights and parties that she's played at will come out and help her celebrate this momentous occassion and make Tribe's opening night a huge event.

Ouch
Toybox New Years Day tickets are $140.....that's one party that's really broken through the $100 barrier and counting. Personally I think that's way too expensive.
Me thinks at sort of a comical price they will struggle to sell out or even come close to selling out. Tut Tut.
Way too expensive, but TOTALLY TOTALLY worth it.
To quote Toybox
"be assured our specially trained attendants will scrape you down off the ceiling after you've been part of our spectacular finale".
Yep.

$140 for the day and not even NYE?
I was so looking forward to it, but count me out thanks.
Toybox tickets - remember something
When you consider that the party is being bumped in on NYE and the party is on NYD, everyone that works for them will be charging well over their normal price. Everyone is on public holiday rates after midnight on NYE. That's why it's expensive.
Plus the Hordern is an expensive venue to hire. It's not cheap. But then you have to give the Toybox team some faith. In the three years the party has been on they have never failed to deliver their goods.
I personally can't WAIT to see how they transform the Hordern Pavilion. The venue is a part of gay history and is long overdue to be done right.
What do you expect? It's the Hordern Pavilion, and a New Years Day party.
You think those that are working for them (the people who run the sound, lighting, DJ's, lasers, bump in/out crews, cleaners, entertainment) are going to charge their normal price? No way. They're ALL working on a public holiday.
What price are you suggesting? For goodness sake. Have a think about it and then you'll realise that it is a reasonable price.
And what's more, it's Toybox. Their party at the Hordern Pavilion is going to be amazing.
"The venue is a part of gay history and is long overdue to be done right."
Honey get over yourself. Long overdue to be done right?! PLeease! Which rock have you been living under recenntly. Have you forgotten recent Mardi Gras, Sleaze Ball's, Biq Queernations? They have all rocked my "gay" boat.
Sure Toybox will no doubt bring their over the top production to the hordern and they will no doubt cover everyone in confetti or glitter in their spectacualr finale. However will the music in the main room *in my opinion* be any better then before. Chances are no, same old tracks that we have been dancing to for 10 years.
Add that to an excessive price. Sorry some of couldnt thing of anything worse. Give me Tropical Fruits or Field Day please, oh and some sunlight on NYD.
OUCH AGAIN
$140 is too much for a dance party. Full Stop.
"However will the music in the main room *in my opinion* be any better then before. Chances are no, same old tracks that we have been dancing to for 10 years."
Depends which DJs they choose. Neal Crawford and Scott Anderson tend to include a lot of recent stuff in their sets. Many of the others (eg DJ Josh, Steven Hales) use a lot more older tracks in their sets. I guess it depends what sort of crowd the Toybox boys are aiming for
Did I ASK them to have it then?
"Have you forgotten recent Mardi Gras, Sleaze Ball's, Biq Queernations?"
Yes I have forgotten. But that wasn't hard.

Does anyone remember last new year's day? It was 40 degrees! It's summer in sydney and we should be outdoors celebrating in the sunshine on NYD - not locked up inside the Hordern. I think it's a very weird idea and don't know if even the Toybox Team will be able to pull it off. Sorry guys, I usually love Toybox but not on NYD, I'm out.
DJs are Matt Steer, Steven Hales, Luke Leal and Dan Murphy. Nothing against these DJs but I can see them out about 4 times each weekend if I want so I think we know exactly what type of music to expect.
even kylie is cheaper than toybox come on guys get real
Arq on Saturday
Can anyone from Arq tell me who has stepped up to fill in Paul's shoes on Sat at the arena?
Tah.
Pick up the phone and call them. It only costs 20 cents.
OUCH AGAIN .... AND AGAIN !
In these troubling times with increasing interest rates , and sky rocketing prices for petrol your regular average income earner will undoubtedly struggle justifying a $140 outlay for a dance party ticket. It’s just outrageous. It’s a cost prohibitive ticket price in my opinion and Toybox has now set itself up catering only to the people who earn a higher than average income.
One might almost say it’s elitist.
And what happens if it’s another 40+ degree day like last New Years Day (or even mid 30’s). Does the Hordern have the capacity to house so many people in the middle of a scorching summers day without it turning into a human furnace ?
Toybox are great great parties but I'm afraid on this occasion they've possibly cut off their nose to spite their face with this price tag in my opinion.
Regardless of the issues mentioned above re costs involved in setting up on a public holiday the fact will always remain that $140 for a dance party ticket makes this THE most expensive dance party ever held in the history of the G&L community. Can the average gay guy or girl on $35K a year afford it straight after Christmas ? ............ Mmmmm , Possibly not.
Interesting times lay ahead.
"And what happens if it’s another 40+ degree day like last New Years Day (or even mid 30’s). Does the Hordern have the capacity to house so many people in the middle of a scorching summers day without it turning into a human furnace ? "
So what? Like they're able to predict the weather for crying out loud. ANY event on NYD faces that predicament.
Can the average gay guy or girl on $35K a year afford it straight after Christmas ? ............ Mmmmm , Possibly not.
Also its in the middle of the holidays, many will be out of town. It's not like Mardi Gras weekend.
One might almost say it’s elitist - spot on.
The Hordern is well air-conditioned after the renovations some years back. If it's 44 Degrees outside then I know where I'd prefer to be - with my mates having a special time to great music with great scenics, safe and looked after, as always by the team at Toybox.
Nearly 50 people 'just' avoided hospitalisation at Field Day this year due to the heat. Stuff that. Let's celebrate in the cool and comfort of one of the truly well used 'gay' public venues.
Yes, the price seems high but knowing the way the boys spend money on making the experience unique, it's really not that unbelievable that they need that income to provide the special touches Toybox are famous for.
And finally, this party ensures the gay community keeps their mark on the Fox precinct for New Year. It could have been gone forever after the last couple of unfortunate experiences. Stop the bitching please. If you are coming to join us, then do - if you're not, that's cool (well we will be), just don't be vicious and condemning of a team that is only into this for one reason - great party and bonding experiences for OUR gay community.
I've been a part of this from the beginning - I truly believe in what the guys are doing and giving to our community. Hey, I have a fulltime job that means I don't have to 'do' dance parties - I do the parties I do because I love them and share in the concept and philosophy - so does everyone else who 'works' on them.
And what a great Xmas present if you really need a reason...

"Can the average gay guy or girl on $35K a year afford it"
Yes. If they plan ahead and save up. If it is important enough for them to be at. Attending Toybox is not a compulsory part of being gay.
It is the other requirements that make parties like this expensive.

Noisy Gypsy says - Just don't be vicious and condemning of a team that is only into this for one reason - great party and bonding experiences for OUR gay community.
Not Correct.
Please don’t “insult” us stating that dance parties are put on soley to make people happy. There happens to be an overriding reason which is summed up in two words.
Profit Making.
Does ANYBODY really think that Toybox would exist if there was no profit in putting them on ?
I think that’s a no brainer. As it was said above, $140 is too much for a dance party. Full Stop.
Enough is enough
I think it's time the "Toybox is too expensive" debate was given a rest It's time to move on. If you don't like it, fine. But there's been enough venting about it and enough whinging about it that I'm not sure anyone else can bring something new to it.
If you think it's too expensive - then don't go. The organisers have put the tickets on sale early - over THREE MONTHS early - so there's plenty of time to save if you're one of the ones who's going.
Every time Toybox has a big party on there's the same debate of it being too expensive and that they "won't sell out". Well, they do sell out. EVERY time. I don't think the NYD party will be a hassle, regardless of the price.
And to those that are assuming the organisers are in it purely for the profit - put a sock in it. Your assumptions are based on nothing but speculation because if you knew them personally you would know that this is not the case.
Funny that at every party the price goes up and the production does as well. Can't wait to see what NYD brings.
Um... I don't think that was Mrs Gypsy.
And considering how much it cost me to go to 4 nights in the superclubs at Ibiza a few weeks back (if you include airfares etc) I don't think $140 is too much for a fantastic party. Given I usually have to travel up to Sydney for most parties, party tickets are often one of the cheapest parts of the weekend
I wanna party on New Year's Eve, though. So a day party isn't gonna do it for me. I'll still be in bed from being up the night before! New Year's Eve is about the best night of the year after MG, as everthing is new and fresh and full of promise.
Peace all

but Toybox could collect extra $'s by also have a

Could have made the day party cheaper by spreading out the costs. After all they already have the Hall.
But I know , in ya dreams.
DJs in the main room are Stephen Hales and Matt Steer. Games Room will be Luke Leal and Dan Murphy. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of either Stephen or Matt where their sets are concerned. I've always been happier with the music at Toy Box parties in the games room but then again, I'm not a huge fan of Dan Murphy's stuff either. Very happy with Luke but far out, $140 a ticket is a little excessive. I adore the Toy Box parties and am certain that the NYD event will be amazing but the price certainly has gotten me thinking twice about going I must say. I'm not saying the price they're charging is unreasonable, just that I don't know how prepared I am to spend that sort of money for it... Hhhmmm....
Unsigned postings rarely get taken seriously so.... let's have a good laugh instead.
Prediction
I predict that due to
a) the NYD date (in the middle of the holidays, lots of people away)
b) the size (how many does the Hordern hold - 5,000?)
c) the line-up (heard it all before)
d) the price (a bit over the top)
Toybox NYD will be the first Toybox in a few years to not sell out. You can hold me to that on January 2, 2007.
The cost of petrol to get you to Lismore will cost you more than Toybox.
Eeek, there are lots of passionate comments here. I just hope that the TB boys have some good pics from the NYD party on the net afterwards. Unfortunately I wont be able to make the party but im very curious to see what they do in one of my favourite Sydney venues.
Graham and I are off to Byron and Lismore again this year with some friends as I have again been asked to light Tropical Fruits, and yup the cost of putting petrol in the XR6 is going to hurt this year.
Currently listening to: Twisted - Vandalism
Yes Brad, and you can well tell this wall that the costs of producing a dance party in a major venue like the Hordern normally are not small. Add the New Year factor plus the special excesses TB is famous for plus new surprises.... do you think that $140 is inconceivable a price?
I had two awesome years in Lismore with the everworking Darryl and Paul on behalf of the Fruits Committee. I'll miss the 'pilgrimage' this year, for obvious reasons, but it will be nice to be in my home city for NYE - must come up with a really nice concept for that night before an early one in readiness for the first huge gay party of 2007. We've had two good years up in Lismore getting a good and powerful audio design in place so I'm sure the troops will look after everyone just the same.
And yes, it's obviously cheaper to stay in Sydney given fuel prices, accom, plus ticket prices etc. up north - that's not the point - the two parties are very different and if money is no object, a relatively cheap flight back on the morning of Jan 1 (around $120) will see some well travelled party goers do both... I know one booked already - scary! (we'll look after you honey in the airconditioned Hordern).
BUT, we have a small gathering in 4 weeks that makes a huge difference to our gay community by funding the 2007 season of Mardi Gras, especially the Parade. Can't wait... All 'on track' Brad?
Tribe
We went to Mandy and Feisty's new night at the Flinders, called Tribe. The Flinders looked good since I'd been last. It felt like the dance floor was bigger and more opened up. The crowd was nicely gay and a good percentage of leather in the room. Mandy was bouncing off the walls, and having a LOVELY time, on her 10 year DJ anniversary. Feisty got to man the decks, as her girl cruised around enjoying the moments. Master Tom made a lovely gratz speech, and even managed to get Mandy to talk!!! Then she got a turn playing tunes to a full dance floor of happy punters.
It was also nice to catch up with some SLPA guys, bears, the party crew lesbians, and much gayness out in force, and enchancing the room with their presence.
A very good night, and actual dancing occurred. Worth another visit. I can hear the beat still
Went Mr Mary's last week and was enjoyable.
Was watching TVS (community TV station for Sydney) last night and they have a program on there called Hugh Monroe's Variety Show at 10PM, Sunday. Last night the program showed drag acts from Mr Mary's. The camera was fixed and also showed members of the crowd going for beers and to the toilet.
All tragic and most fun.

Toybox Ticket
I have heard about how good Toybox parties were. I was really curious. Last month (6 Aug), my first time went to Toybox at Metro. It was a good party, but it was the same with dance parties that I went to such as like Sleaze, Mardi Gras or Homesexual. The music was the same, dont like the venue layout and over crowdedand the ticket $72 ($78 through mail - too expensive for a little party)
Many of my friends said it was just the same like other most dance parties and it is true. But it seems no one post any bad comments about Toybox on this wall. $140 is definitely expensive.

I agree with JGirl - it's not at all an inspiring DJ line-up *in my opinion*. As someone else has already said, I think the DJs will be playing the same stuff we've been hearing at dance parties for the last 5-10yrs (except from Luke, who is playing a completely different sound these days).
My message to the Toybox crew - while your efforts to take the production standards to an ever higher level are admirable, it's time to put some effort into improving the music. The novelty of hearing the same tracks played over and over is starting to wear thin and I don't think I'll be spending $140 for a ticket when I can already name 90% of the tracks that are going to be played at your party....
The music
I rarely get out and about much these days outside of Toybox parties, however in the past few weeks, I've been whirling about town. Seems to me that the music is still quite hit and miss in most of the venues? I'll admit that I like mine a little more girly and upbeat than most probably, but there seems to be a distinct lack of happy music that makes you want jump and dance all night?
Best nights was the Thursday eve, after Dannii @ Homesexual, at Arq, with Mark Alsop serving up some deliciously chunky upbeat and dare I say girly dance tracks. Again at Arq this past Saturday night, Jake Kilby played a wonderful set. The Kylie night at Slide was an absolute hoot as I expected, with lots of cute boys bopping around with big grins and enjoying the sing-a-long. But other nights at Arq and the Shift of late haven't really been anything special.
Can't wait for NYD Toybox. Yes $140 is pushing it, but the Toybox team have always consistently delivered exceptional production for your dance party $$. See you on the dancefloor!

Maybe even.....an international for that price? There have got to be lots of amazing trance DJs in town for NYE gigs, why don't they put some of the (5000 tickets x $140) $700,000 in ticekt sales on making sure the music isn't the same old same old trance. The parties are great, but they are not put on for OUR gay community. it is insulting to say that. They are private enterprise making money - TOTALLY fine by me, but - as with all companies providing a product - their potential customers are well within their rights to comment on the product as they see it.
could dan murphy tell us what he plans to play at toybox?
I'm agree with the previous posts on the music at toybox. I why not bring in interstaters e.g have stephen and scott anderson in the main room and luke and someone else in the smaller room. I dont think Dan's music is up to scratch - in my oppinion - it verges on sounding like a jukebox - tacky rehashes of commercial songs. Sorry that doesnt cut it for a $140 party.
Dan Murphy - Most popular DIVA DJ of the Year, made it into ITM's Top 50 for the 1st time. No, Dan's not up scratch. What crap
Bloody rude! ho hum in my oppinion. (What's that word?)
"Most popular DIVA DJ of the Year, made it into ITM's Top 50 for the 1st time"
Both of these accolades are strongly based on the DJ's own self promotion.
Just thought I'd throw that in.
Godskitchen?
My (straight) hairdresser just suggested that Godskitchen dance party might be worth going to. It is the straight dance party at Home starting just after Homesexual on the Sunday night of the long weekend. Has anybody gone to one of these parties? Is it friendly? I was thinking it might be something interesting to try if people say it has a good vibe, otherwise I think it will be Sleaze/Homesexual.

"Godskitchen?"
The straight events at Home night club are very good. The crowd is always up for it, fun and are usually so trolleyed that they don't notice if there's "gay boys" in the room.
Above and Beyond are playing at the next one.
Can anyone tell me when the Tropical Friuts party is going on sale.
I am very keen to escape the "OUCH, Ouch and Ouch again" negativity of Sydney and the Toybox debacle.

OMG! tony moran and manny lehman in one day wow
Godskitchen
Godskitchen is a straight party with a great DJ and Producer, Tony Moran, playing. But the Shift have announced today the great Gay DJ, and Producer, Manny Lehman at the 25 Year stalwart venue for the night after Sleaze.
Nice rest after Sleaze, evening dinner with mates and then up to the Shift to hear one of OUR greats play in OUR venue.
Not putting down Home at all - just we come first, not hanging on to the Apron strings of a straight party. Sleaze is Gay, the Shift is Gay - the two have always gone hand in hand. It's a shame no Indulgence but that's ok - obviously an opportunity like this doesn't happen often for the Shift so understandable. And the boys that usually do Indulgence will find Manny very very acceptable.
Oh yes, what's the bet that Tony Moran doesn't drop up for a post gig drink at the Shift anyway - after all, Manny and he are friends.
You can do all 3 if you wish - Sleaze, Godskitchen and the Shift. But, maybe, if a choice is needed, keep it gay guys.

bad dog.
Sunday night after sleaze.
Bad Dog.

i think you should do some homework or read the press before you talk crap... tony moran isnt at godskitchen hes at homesexual which is a gay party tony moran is also a gay dj and producer. homesexual is on during the day and godskitchen is on at night.
so for me its sleaze (maybe), homesexual then the shift
oh, of course, sorry, that's the gay party conveniently squeezed into the venue's format so that gays don't feel like token citizens? The same party that decided to compete against Sleaze (even though Toybox made a conscious decision not to). Wrong attitude. Why we still have truly gay oriented venues looking after us and making an effort - like the Shift, Oxford, Stonewall, Palms, Manacle etc - we will support them.
Tropical Fruits tickets went on sale last week. Go to:
www.tropicalfruits.org.au
Just LOOK at the prices of the Tropical Friuts party. In some cases less than HALF of Toybox NYD.
I know where Im going to get value for money !
The Godskitchen party is a very good party - several of the world's top trance DJs play the main room. Previous line-ups have included Armin van Buuren, Gabriel & Dresden, and Marco V. This year's line-up includes Above & Beyond, Eddie Halliwell, and Matt Hardwick. If you are into trance, then this would be the pick of the weekend in my opinion. Unfortunately, though, you'd be sacrificing a gay crowd/vibe for good music....
Yes the ITM top 50 DJ Poll is a poll of how many votes you can get friends/fans to vote for you.
The true test of the DJ's ability is how many years they have been listed in the top 50. Congratulations to Kate Monroe & Alex Taylor for being in the top 50 for the last 3 years. The true DJ DIVA's.
I dunno, according to his website, he's notorious for remixing Sarah Brightman. Does the world really need that?

sydney will be spoiled with choices over the sleaze weekend. two internationals, sleaze, proper leather party (in*****e), arq, manacle, hopefully something at phoenix or b34.
there will be enough places to go to avoid so called "artists" listed above or sarah brightman.

INDULGENCE
Sleaze weekend is now going to be a big one with the shift putting this one on.
Manny!
Have to congratulate the Shift on their choice of Manny for Post Sleaze Sunday Night.
Should be fantastic!!!
Yes, Shift for Indulgence Friday night, Sleaze Saturday night, and back to the Shift for Manny Sunday night. GAY, GAY GAY rules! ok?
Hey, something really nice guys... Channel 9 did a tribute to our very ocker Steve Irwin tonight and closed it with none other than one of our adopted Gay princesses, Tina Cousins, with edited parts of her ballad of the old Black classic, Wonderful Life, over the end.
Someone at 9 has taste. Hardly a surprise I guess.
Noice Kimmy, very nice.

Yeah, I noticed that too and if the rest of the tribute didn't get me bawling my eyes out then that certainly did. I didn't realise quite how much he did for our wildlife (let alone our country).... I feel really bad that I took his work for granted for so long and instead chose to bitch about his OTT personality. Sorry Steve... I hope you can hear me!

toybox
are you kidding i think the price of toy box tickets for new years day is good, considering how much every thing else costs. b
but hey when you put on your own dance party on nyd, with better dj's and cheaper let us know
"but hey when you put on your own dance party on nyd, with better dj's and cheaper let us know"
Ok, here's letting you know: it's called Field Day, there are 20,000 people, lots of the better DJs like Bob Sinclar, Felix Da Housecat etc, out in the sunshine in the Domain on NYD, a hugely growing number of gay guys and gals every year, and all for about half of Toybox, ie. $70.
You did say to let you know?
Have a think?
Ummm, if you think about it....
Toybox only gets about 4500 people in the Horden.
Field Day gets 20, 000.
Of course Field Day's tickets are going to be cheaper.
4500

It never ceases to amaze the easy at which party's,promoters, venues, DJ's fall out of favour with those that choose to post on this board.
Your only as good as your last party and from memory (and scouring through previous boards) the ToyBox boys are still on top of their game.
Go to Lismore and have Fun, Go to field day and mix with the supposed "Gay friendly" crowd. I shall be at Toybox they did a good thing by staying away from the Sleaze long weekend and $140 for a NYD party is not excessive it's reality.
I love Annabelle Gaspar's tunes! See you @ club kooky friday night and Bad Dog for post Sleaze!

I wasn't sure about the venue for that sort of music, but it actually worked really well and everyone seems to be having a good time. One little crit: less lighting perhaps????
Mwahh girls. I lurv youse......... and glad you're back!
$140 a Toybox NYD ticket?
That's a big profit for someone.
I'd like to know where it goes?
i agree thats why i stopped attending after the first Luna Park gig.The music was imo bland and monotonous and if i hear summer bloody rain played one more time it will be to soon-when Toybox improves the music i will return untill then i shant bother

Sundays at Arq
Been having the best time at Arq recently on Sunday's nice crowd, good atmosphere, hot guys, but do you think they could do something about the music ? terrible upsatairs and downstairs all night. Especially at the end downstairs. Still having a ball there though, seems to be a popular hang out on Sudnays again. Just that music element thats not right. I hope they fix it so I dont over do it on the chems (makes bad music tolerable). Anyway maybe its gonna happen as there seems to be an on the up feel about the place. See you there.

Sunady 1st Oct. Gonna be a great birthday for the boys & a fantastic recovery option post sleaze. congrats on FLASH guys

Totally agree. Toybox is still the best iv'e been to. All those winging about the price of tickets should think about what they spend their money on. Christ if you can't afford a lousy $140 whats going on. Most have no problem spending it on chemicals on a weekly basis but jump up & down abour $140. Toybox and most of the other parties (incl Mardigras & Sleaze) put a lot of time & effort in trying to satisfy our comunity. Maybe some of you would have the promoters spend nothing on our comunity & cancell all dance parties. Maybe this would stop you winging. If you cant afford to go out to our parties DON'T. If you dont like the venue DON'T GO & if you dont like the music or DJ GO SOMEWHERE ELSE . But the majority of us love what the promotors & clubs are doing for us so at least let us enjoy it without all the negative crap from the same posters on here all the time.

*ROFL* How true!!! I can't see how any DJ who plays this track can be expected to be taken seriously as a trance DJ....
That's kind of a funny post - cos there's only one option out of all of those listed where you could avoid all of the above. Thank heavens for Bad Dog & Zip. And no, the world definitely doesn't need another Freemasons mix either IMO.
Funny when I was at last Toybox Party @ Metro I felt the same......music was very repititious of their previous parties and finale was same same but on a smaller scale from Luna Park.......I do luv the Toybox Parties but feel they are getting a bit monotaneous now.
Here's hoping Toybox @ The Hordern will take on a whole new feel & buzz and not rest on it's laurels of past.
Like any good artist you need to keep on reinventing yourself to keep the punters interested & happy. And now at $140 a tix I wunna get value for my dollars.

I think you missed the entire point of the post. There's no doubt that a lot of people out there like Summer Rain. But it's not and never will be "trance" - rather, it's an upbeat cheesy remake of a late 1980's track! :p

Summer Rain is a bit like Rocket Man - a song you love to hate (because it's old) but it grabs you by the balls, with it's reincarnation, and you just have to dance.

noted.
There are plenty of straight events that bring out internationals on an almost weekly basis that cater to the hundreds and not the thousands. They put on a great production and cost less than $60. Get a copy of 3D or look on ITM.com. This happens almost every week. I dont see how $140 is good value. It just isnt.
Jojo is great, he plays great trance (read - not cheesy with lots of thought behind it!) check him out at locker room in melbourne this cup long weekend. This is coming from a house music lover. Go Jojo!
More scare mungering.
I think it's a timely warning prior to Sleaze.
"I dont see how $140 is good value. It just isnt."
Well, you are of course entitled to that opinion. To that end, you aren't compelled to spend $140 and go to the party - it isn't taxation.
I have no difficulty accepting that there are valid reasons for the event costing what it does. For example, go to almost any restaurant on NYD (those that are even open) and you'll pay a surcharge to cover added costs. Is a $20 meal less value for money because it costs you $24 on NYD? This is no different. It's not profiteering; it's a simple issue of cost.
My personal opinion is that I believe I will get value for money, from people whose track record I am happy to use as a measure. I've bought my ticket and am certainly looking forward to it.
By 8.00pm on January 1st, I will know whether I got value for money. I'll let you know some time after then.

If youre out early in the inner west, head to the Newtown Hotel on King Street. No Really! Thursday nights djs are Ben Drayton, Gemma and Seymour Butz. They play everything from The Pixies to The Presets. There is an out there drag show. Its free and friendly.
Who DJs on Wednesday nights at the Newtown? I went there last Wednesday night with my boyf and his lesbian friends. Was a great crowd, but the DJ couldnt mix (at least 4 or 5 crash mixes in a row), and was running the mixer way too hot for the system - lots of feedback, distortion. Music selection wasn't too bad, progressive/tribal, appropriate for the crowd. Pity about the quality of the mixing/levels.
I prefer to mix with a wooden spoon. Much more smoother on the palate

What do people think about the arcane nomenclature of modern dance music??
Well your question was completely arcane. Nobody uses "nomenclature" anymore, and music has been called "modern" since the Roaring 20's
I'm really digging the groovy sounds of hard chill and heavy metal trance on my stereophonic HiFi equipment, and really cutting a rug in the discotheques of Sydney Town
And Dunhill cigarettes are my international passport to smoking pleasure.
...who said summer rain is trance?
I don't think anyone did! What I was saying in my original post is that I can't see how any DJ who plays that track can expect to be taken seriously as a trance DJ. Cos, I agree, it's NOT trance!!!!

I totally agree. This is so rude.
Does arq not appreciate how hard we all work to put on Sleaze and then to steal it - disgusting
I thought the same thing, but then friends of mine suggested maybe they were trying to align link between Sleaze and ARQ afterwards as the place to recovery for the rest of the weekend??
In that sense it's a perfect, but still I will not be attending ARQ it lost me quite a while ago and this does not overwhelm me to return.
I think the poster is fine, but the crowd at ARQ hideous!!
Straighty 180's love it and it will take a lot to turn it back inot a Gay friendly vibe again... shame but true!
See you all @ Sleaze!!
And then recovery anywhere but ARQ!
Imitation is the best form of flattery. By Arq advertising something with a flow on theme from Sleaze (with Balls) they also add to the Sleaze theme. How can anyone not know about Sleaze but know about Arq.
Currently listening to: She's My Man - Scissor Sisters
The name "Disco Ghetto" is ok, since Sleaze is "Ghetto Fabulous". BUT... the poster is almost identical. You can tell it was done by straights because it refers to "Sleazeball" weekend, when the name is "Sleaze Ball"
Here we have a community organistaion's poster and artwork (created to raise money for a community based Festival in 2007) stolen by a commercial business that has no link to Sleaze whatsoever.
And I agree 200% that Arq is straightland nowadays and will never regain the gay backing it once had. IN MY OPINION this is the fault of their door policy. They let anybody in, whereas I've watched the boys at the Midnight Shift Club use whatever excuse they can to keep straight people out (they've even said "sorry sold out, ticket holders only" for the 25th Birthday when our gruop of gay guys were allowed to pay at the door).
THAT is the difference, and once again ARQ - "SHAME SHAME SHAME!"
Arq stealing from Sleaze Ball. Homesexual stealing from Allegria in the USA - it's a bit of an unoriginal weekend!

You know, Bodyline's demise probably had a lot to do with the decline in gay guys going to Arq on Saturday nights. I remember it was convenient being just round the corner, you could disappear for an hour or so and return, or just end the night there.
Bodyline was losing money this year and was behine in its rent to its landlord ARQ.
ARQ bought the business, so it will be interesting. I guess they don't charge the "new" bodyline nearly what they used to charge the old owners LOL
As a Melbourne boy which recovery do my Syd bros think is better. Arq or Home???????
Thanx
Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahaha riteon
Arq bought the business did they???
Did they buy the debts of the Bodyline" business too?
Does the reciever know the business was sold?
How about the tax office - how did they go with that one?
And now that Chad and his cohorts from Arq have assumed the Bodyline operation have they removed the title "gay owned and operated"?
They took over the business. The only hurdle was getting the name "Bodyline" to go with it, otherwise it'd be worthless as a going concern.
You'll find the old owners would have had to deal with debts.
home during the day and then the midnightshift at night.
Go Home forget Arq, DCM
Generally if you buy a business, the exposed debts are negotiated in the price. Some purchasers take on the debts for tax purposes, some dont. It all depends on the specifics of the contract. i.e if your making heaps of money like ARQ probably are, then they can buy a poor performing business like Bodyline and reduce their company tax bill and get a free business out of it.
BodyArq
With Arq buying bodyline this now poses a delicious question as to whether Arq will build a direct passage way between the two buildings. Wouldnt it be great to go out dancing and then roam into another part of the club where cubicles existed. It Reminds me of a club I visited in Melbourne about 10 years ago... what WAS the name of that place .. anybody ??
People I know who have travelled to Spain say most gay clubs in that country have cubicles out back. Wow , what a life !
What a marvellous way for Arq to become gay again on a Saturday night if they could provide an area for sex ... oh well , I suppose I'm dreaming now.
I have images of towel-clad guys wandering into the Vortex....
Sleaze, bus to DCM for post party gossip. Home for shower/change of clothes + top up? Homesexual. Home for rest/food, shift in the evening then ARQ for monday recovery, which is always a hoot.
homesexuals web site
read this....
HOMESEXUAL: The story so far
In the beginning, God made man so he could party with other men. But in Sydney, men got lost among their parties since they’d got so big. Sydney, the world’s gay capital, became a place where you needed a bank loan for a good time, and nature herself was out of balance. By the time the last lights went out on Big Queer Nation, things needed to change.
But QN had set a precedent – men wanted to party with other men more than ever – but they also needed good music and intimate surrounds. And so, Homesexual was born.
It began in August 2005 with a new beginning, and a million-dollar sound refit for the site for the old Queer Nation, Home Nightclub. Dedicated to restoring the balance with Mother Nature through its al fresco theme, Homesexual brought a human touch back to the soulless vibe that gay parties had developed. This first edition drew rave reviews from even the most hard-to-please party queens, so another was planned before summer.
Freakshow was held in November that year. By now, the party had gained runaway momentum and raised thousands of dollars for groups like ACON and New Mardi Gras. It earned its rightful place in the scene. The third instalment, Club Tropicana, made Home history as its fastest selling night: a marathon 14-hour celebration of tropical-tinged fun.
In 2006, Homesexual took a hard look at itself and called its fourth party Reflections. Men everywhere were buffing and priming themselves for the Mardi Gras season, and needed to get into the groove. Cockle Bay’s sparkling waters were the perfect backdrop for a night of matching wit and equally sparkly outfits.
By the end of summer, Homesexual founder & producer Stephen Craddock knew things had to get serious. While Sydneysiders swilled Smirnoff Black on the festival circuit, Homesexual wrapped itself in the same, and invited legendary DJ Junior Vasquez from New York City to take partygoers to new musical heights. Like Manhattan’s skyscrapers, more than 2000 turned out on the night, making Homesexual Black another sell-out. The legend was born.
That June, with Her Majesty’s birthday calling, Homesexual went regal and appointed a party on palatial proportions. HRH, or Her Royal Homesexual, went head to head with the big guns on the year’s most hedonistic public holiday. Despite the wealth of parties on offer, HRH drew a smiling fresh crowd who had waited till Sunday for Homesexual’s first daytime instalment.
Now, with a year behind it, Homesexual looks poised to bring fun back into parties, ensuring men can always party with other men, and keep bringing smiles to thousands.
Now, the choice is before you. Either hear rave reviews about the next Homesexual, or tell others about it!
ENDS
What do you all think...?
Interesting recap....
I think the Homesexual parties started off slowly and gained momentum but have dwindled off again because of their expansion into the day party market.
Day parties just DON'T work in the Home venue. They just don't seem right. Day parties work, yes, but not with that venue. I think their most successful party was the NYD party this year and I'm not sure why. Perhaps good timing? Good DJ's?
I realise their NYD party was a day party AND a night party (because it went for 14 freaking hours, or whatever) and it worked well. Not sure why, but it did.
But any attempt of their's at a day party SINCE that one has flopped. It just doesn't work.
The party needs to spice up a bit. They need more variety in DJ's and need to change the rooms around. At one point they had a trance room - WTF has that gone? At least it chopped the music styles up and made the night a little less bland than what it is now.
JMHO.
"The legend was born." Come on, are you sure we are talking about the same party here?
what a load of crap.
they have only had 1 day party which was great by the way. homesexual extreme on the sunday of the long weekend will be massive so lets see how it goes again its a day party and evening party so will be a hoot. my friends have all bought tickets and we intend to sunbathe, drink cocktails and dance to tony moran, if the mix on there website is anything to go by its going to be fantastic.
Hhmmm well I'm sure I'll be in the minority here when I say this but I'm a little peeved about it being promoted so heavily as a men's party. I'm a girl but I'm gay. Why shouldn't I be welcome at boy's parties? I don't give a rat's if they want to do it in front of me or in (our) loos or whatever... I just want the chance to go to "gay" parties! That really fu*ks me off... And before anyone attacks me (if they were going to), I'm not one for the "women's only" spaces at the big parties either! In fact, I find them kinda boring....

Reading between the lines, their best parties were the first and the Vasquez ones, where they speak of either rave reviews or a full house.
Reflections was a flop, and the June day party pretty quiet as well.
so it comes down to trance once again. it is either retro or trance. you people move on. it is 2006 and the clock will NEVER start ticking back towards your summer rain and agnelli & nelson days. (and all the 80s "gems")!!!!!!!!!
and it is pretty obvious - i am so F happy that TF trance room has gone.
Homesexual and Godskitchen
Homesexual is starting at 10:00am on the 1st of October and finishing at 10:00pm. Checking home nightclub webpage, Godskitchen is start at 10:00pm on the 1st of October until 07:00am.
How is that going to work ?
How safe is that going to be ?
godskitchen actually starts at 11pm, i called today as im going to both
there is a mistake on the home website.
What's that line about believing your own PR? If that's the way the Stephen seriously views Homesexual then there is something seriously wrong with his perception. As a party it's had some ok nights and some mega flops but what is the need of trying to gloss over every party as being god's gift to the gay world?
OH JOY OH JOY. I just got ANOTHER Homesexual email. Do their marketing wheels EVER stop ?
well remove yourself from their marketing wheels and you will be able to smile again
Hey JGirl, your more than welcome to party with us boys any old time. In general most parties would have a higher ratio of boys to girls. Thats never stopped my gay girlfriends. Just rock your socks offfff.
I think it's quite simple, the number of emails sent out from Home are directly proportionate to the number of tickets they have sold to the party.
So last week I received three of them, comp, comp winner and then Homesexual is still on in case your memory only stretches back two days, which probably says a lot about ticket sales, as well as todays email, just in case you forgot about last week's three emails, saying tickets on the door will be $60. Isn't that what QN in its final days used to charge before realising few are going to pay that?
Show song........
Wondering if anyone knows which song is played first in the xman show on friday night at the shift.

i asked awhile back but no one seemd to know..
thanks again.
The song is " Sex " by Vicki Shepard...off her cd The Essential Vicki Shepard...mixed by Motiv8...I think you can still get it from Amazon.com.

$60 on the door.
ie we are not selling well.
I've just been to the Home site - Rebel Rebel is on the night of Sleaze and is promoted as running until the sun comes up, and then Godskitchen is on the Sunday night... Doesn't leave much bump in/ bump out time...
I dont care about $60 or $49. I spend more than that on every damm parking and speeding fine I get. Anyway its only once in a while.
Besides, it costs me over a $1000 for the whole weekend (air, hotel, etc).
Does anyone know what else is worth going to???
Ive not heard good things about ARQ and DCM.
Melboy
things to do today:
1/ unsubscribe
things to do tommorow:
1/ check if you unsubscribed yesterday
things to do the day after tommorow:
1/ check if you unsubscribed the day before yesterday
that should keep you busy for three days. and if you still receive another email from homesexual try to unsubscribe. or ask stephen. or even better send them an email to unsubscribe you cause you are probably too busy writing about it on pinkboard. and if that doesnt help try "delete" button. it always works for me.
god, so many solutions. i am exhausted. gotta go and get my dose of retro trance (cause theres no new) & retro (damn, theres no new retro either) for today.
good luck honey
PS: let us know how did you go
Ive TRIED unsubscribing. Guess what ??
IT DOESNT WORK !
I agree this is very disappointing. If ARQ is doingan after party that leverages off Sleaze Ball then they should acknowledge that financially - it is that simple.
And by the way really easy just donate about 20% of the door proceeds to Mardi Gras.
It is simply not fair that Mardi Gras be exploited in this way.
There is a big difference between keeping up to date with whats going on, and getting bombarded with emails. The Shift is a great example of a club that keeps you up-to-date without letting you know every two days the next lot of DJs they've booked for a party that's two months away.
It doesn't mean I don't want to know what is going on at Homesexual hence why I haven't unsubscribed, but they are taking my permission and running way too far with it. At this rate it borders on spam.
"At this rate it borders on spam."
Is there an ombudsman who covers spam issues ?
Is there an ombudsman who covers spam issues ?
There is in fact.

"It doesn't mean I don't want to know what is going on at Homesexual hence why I haven't unsubscribed"..... hmmmm, do this. go to the email and click "unsubscribe" link
"but they are taking my permission and running way too far with it"..... LOLOLOLOL because you let them. unsubscribe.
what is your problem anyway?
simply delete it. or move it to your junk mail.
or maybe not. dont do anything.
i am actually enjoying your pinkboard whinging. if nothing else - people like you always make me laugh
mwah
I use Trend Micro to block unwanted spam and have found it very effective. You can block or approve any sender just by clicking on the unwanted email then clicking on the block or approve button. If theyre blocked they go str8 to the spam bin automatically. 95% of the time spam goes their immediately without having to click, click.
I find sms more annoying, so I just call the pricks and let them have it. They dont bother me again. They get your number from the cloak room of the club you went to.
I think it ws Subway? in Stkilda - the one with the train carraige cum cruise area - ah those where the days...!
Its a good thing that most good truly gay melb parties still have those backrooms (except for red raw for some reason).
NSW licensing laws don't allow alcohol with sex on premises venues... so i think that option of towel clad boys in the Vortex is just a dream... if we were in Victoria it is a different question!
So who knows whats gonna happen!
Salvation - NZ Style
Well, I want to thank the NZ Salvation boys, Michael and Marty, for a great weekend in Auckland. Ruby and Stephen were over there to play at a CD Launch party at a, normally straight club, Space, in the semi-trendy Newmarket. The house Opus Sound System was good and, with a little maniupulation, and additional gear brought in to my recommended spec, able to deliver the sound Ruby likes to achieve.
The venue was really well run, the crowd (including some of the Sydney stalwarts who had travelled for the weekend) was not huge but sexy, enthusiatic and with no attitude. Very good HQ night.
But what about the people? Well, we may have lost the ability to be good hosts to some extent (with some expectations) but the politeness of our Kiwi brothers and sisters is just incredible. And, if you tip expect even better service - they don't do that over there I'm told.
The gay bars? Well, only really got to one, Family, in K Road, with it's subterranean Supermarket below. The sound? Well, the main bar, packed to the rafters after midnight has the worse sound I've heard in years. Shame as the local girl DJ worked as best she could with a smile and a friendly chat (and she accepted requests - which I am told is the way in NZ). Shame this venue doesn't spend a few dollars at least fixing what's broke given the bar take. Weird was that the venue underneath, and a part of the same business, had pretty good sound, even if one quarter the crowd.
Did get taken to a straight day rave after the party, also on K Road. Good music, albeit very different to normal listening (when in Rome...), good sound and great staff and feeling of security. Lasted a good 4 hours so all good.
Being a Sydney boy, I miss sunsets over the ocean, so I planned to drive out to Piha, about 40 minutes from Auckland for this special and rare event. Needless to say, as I believe with most of the 'countryside', it was pristine and awesomely beautiful. No wonder Peter Jackson knew his country was a winner for LOTR.
And at only about A$450 return if you get the right flight, NZ is a real option for a nice, polite, and relaxed get-a-way. I also had a car for 3 days for NZ$71, about A$62 - and it worked just fine.
Thanks to Ruby for organising this little adventure for me. And thank you NZ - almost feel embarrassed it was my first visit at my tender age.
Onto Sleaze and beyond we go...
Imagine the look on all the Sharon's and Darren's faces if there were towel clad boys in the vortex... now that would be a laugh!
If ARQ is doingan after party that leverages off Sleaze Ball then they should acknowledge that financially - it is that simple.
And by the way really easy just donate about 20% of the door proceeds to Mardi Gras.
ARQ/Ruby are donating 20% of the door price (not just door proceed) to Mardi Gras on the night of Sleaze. From Ruby email:
AND, so that you can still contribute to Mardi Gras, we are donating 20% of the door price to Mardi Gras.
Venue: Arq, Sydney (in the Arena)
Date: Saturday 30th September
Time: 11pm till extremely late (actually we are thinking at least 10am Sunday)
DJ's: Shane Wiles*, Stephen Simpson, Ruby, Ryan Murphy

Lighting & Lasers: TBA
Additional Sound: The Ruby Team.

($5 from each ticket is donated back to Mardi Gras)
Queer Nation was legendary.
Homesexual just doesn't come anywhere close to it.
Arq on Thursdays
Just in regards to the competition @ Arq on Thursday nights is there going to be a grand finale of sorts? and when will it end? this week or next?
i'm hoping they'll open upstairs and have a big finale of shows and then the voting and then the winner anouncement! that would be great, except i think there is only 3 left now isnt there? Beyonce G Spot, Feminem and Tiffany ... hrmm
And does the Thursday shows have a set time for starting? i dont want to be late!
Currently listening to: Silence - Delerium
totally agree - the mardi gras one in 2004 was the best party i have been to in recent years. the calibre of djs, the room styles and the range of people in the venue (from leather men to drag queens, to freaks, to twinks and everyone oin between) has not been equalled by any other private party since - its a shame its gone.
2 emails a week from the shift at the moment too, give homesexual a break.
Homesexual, while a great idea, has really lost a lot of support from the gay community this year and perhaps because it seems just squeezed into the Home schedule rather than the main event it once was (and that Queer Nation used to be).
Or maybe we are just tired of Home as a venue since the rejig and ownership change, which saw the dance space downstairs significantly reduced and the mid-level toilets closed.
Well I guess its a bit of a gamble wherever you party on that Sunday!!!!!!!!!!given the negativity surrounding all of the venues.
the bedroom will be the safest bet!
It is just spin, spin, spin.....the homesexual team would make great politicians!
"spin, spin, spin"
sounds like a song
spin, spin, spin,
look where we've been
and where we are tongiht....
After 25 years in the Sydney scene I can tell you its queens who are a fickle lot. Oh they will say its because this venue did this or that but I have seen so many venues go out of favour over the last 25 years , I can assure us fickle lot ( and yes I as fickle as the
next queen ).
I miss those mid level toilets....
Yeah I agree the club needs a serious make over.
I'm going to a house party on the Sunday after Sleaze.
They seem to be all the go.
Did you try the legal "party pills" - BZP + TFMPP?
Holy vanishing act!
The poster/artwork which featured a pic of Batman from one of the movies is completely gone, and they only refer to a dance space as "the batcave".
BATMAN and all related characters and elements are trademarks of and (C) DC Comics.
... however it still appears here http://homesexual.wucci.com/xtrailer/
I heard the rumour today that DC Comics are suing Home and Homesexual over copyright infringement for Batman/Gotham City.................+ also for illegal use of Superman likeness for the Queens Birthday long weekend.
Would make sense why the artwork has all of a sudden changed and any reference to Batman has been removed. naughty, naughty.
I have had to remove a number of rather nasty posts by one particular person. It appears that this person has a vendetta against at least one promoter on the scene.

pinkboard positivity please
Lets show Panther some respect by keeping it positive on here. This isn't the forum to hate - you can do that anywhere! Bring the love!
Make everyone register Panther then it's easy comeback...
Well, Im going to go to Home and have fun.........
Then I'll Shift.
On a side note, Gay Bash and Kooky are my two fave nights at the moment, anyone else also enjoying their creativity?
Pinkboard's usual policy is to not allow posting of a graffiti item if any part of it does not meet the moderation requirements. (Pinkboard does not have resources to do otherwise.) I have made an exception with this message. I have removed the parts that identify one particular group. My response is below. - Panther
Of trying their darnest to harm everyone they can while still being "upbeat" and "positive".
Panther, in case you have not realised it you are are now officially the promoter of the poorest producton team in the country.
... are using this wall to promote themselves. ... Bluntly the parties are very average and just a drug vortex ...
...
You panther are perpetuating it. You are driving good quality punters, promoter and the community away from what you started. It is supposed to be an independant forum Panther.
Make it that.
This is definately the opinion of the poster and no I do not have time to come on here under a heap of different names and then a few more time anon just to get my point accross.
This board should be representative, It is not. It is a promo tool not for any promoters or DJ as it is often suggested but really the most average ... production team that I and my business partners have ever had the displeasure of working with in our combined total of 36 years in the industry. ...
Clean up your act guys and stop the rot!!!
Apart from the comments about a particular promoter, the message above also makes a number of claims about Pinkboard:
- that Pinkboard promotes some events over others
- that Pinkboard is not representative
- that Pinkboard has been hijacked
Pinkboard's policy has always been to allow events to be promoted and to allow constructive criticism of those events. Unfortunately some people believe it is their right to be allowed to post nasty, abusive and possibly libelous comments about whomever they choose.
Pinkboard is the publisher so there is always the possibility that I (Panther) will be sued for such comments. To mitigate this risk Pinkboard records the IP addresses of every post and is prepared to co-operate with legitimate legal requests (see Privacy Policy). Pinkboard also has a number of volunteer moderators to try to prevent such posts being published. (A big thank you to the moderators.)
In response to the points above:
- Pinkboard takes a special interest in Mardi Gras and Sleaze Ball. Pinkboard also takes special interest in a small number of other charity events. Otherwise Pinkboard does not favour any event or venue over any other. I personally know people from a number of events, venues and organisations. There is no special treatment given to these people. Some of them have even had their comments moderated. Pinkboard allows anyone to post the details of their events and encourages them to do so.
- Pinkboard operates by word of mouth. It does not have the resources for advertising or big promotions. Pinkboard is only representative of the people who choose to post. There is no barrier to posting (at present) except the requirement to be civil.
- I am unable to see how Pinkboard has been hijacked by any particular event or venue. They all receive their share of criticism, warranted or otherwise. It is the worst excesses of this criticism that the moderators have to remove.
I would love Pinkboard to be a place where people eagerly anticipate the next event, then re-live their memories. Where party goers can chat with DJs, promoters, producers, etc and help to make our events even better. I would love for Pinkboard to become an extension of all these events.
