Wed Dec 29 13:32:40 1999
Yes, I'm sure they do.
Wed Dec 29 13:41:13 1999
*wondering to self* why not just call an outlet rather than loggin on here to wait and see if someone who may know replies??

Mr Panties - Thu Dec 30 1:10:53 1999
MsThing - Defending Home? Praising Alex Taylor? Justine, really.
Thu Dec 30 11:03:55 1999
Ms Thing = Justine? Well, no, but Ms Thing was seen trashed on the dancefloor of ARQ on Sunday night...thanks Ms Thing!! See you at Frisky!
Clark Kent - Thu Dec 30 12:25:39 1999
Sorry Clark I was @ NV on Sunday- then gilligan's... and I won't be @ Frisky.Nor am I Justine; although she is a buddy of mine.If you really want my id all you gotta do is turn up to a lesbian event- or ask a drag queen...that should almost spell it out!anyways who cares? Tell me what's in store for partying thru January?
MsThing - Thu Dec 30 18:47:09 1999
Have a wild New Year's Eve everyone, especially the likes of EC, Nat, F*U*NkeeBoi (I know you're still here) and Rooster; and also to the promoters and DJs who come here, don't slag each other off and help to create the parties I really enjoy going to (you know who you are).
Technowarrior - Thu Dec 30 23:34:44 1999
Ditto Ditto Ditto. Hope all you guys have a G*R*E*A*T New Year's Eve and night. Maybe I'll run into you somewhere around the traps %)

Happy New Year all!! EC & Gang, 'ave fun @ Pride. Techno & Nat, no doubt you will have a ball at Screw... would be there myself except for $$ problems :( Have fuuuuuuuuuuun!

Thanks Spike, ummmm... I look forward to it! And Ms Thing, see you out on the weekend, my sweet little fashion princess!
Mystified - Fri Dec 31 17:45:49 1999
First one to comment, I had a fabulous night. There were some seriously dodgy bits of music in the Hordern when I first arrived at about 2.00am till 3.00am Then the show and better music later. Will give more info when I'm back on the planet. Off with Panther now to recoveries.
Gregsta - Sat Jan 1 10:26:16 2000
Well all up that was probably the best Pride party I've been to. The lighting rig was awesome, the snowstorm was a great flashback, Paul Goodyear was bloody brilliant, Kate Monroe was mostly brilliant and ... well two out of three ain't bad. It's the Gluck-factor I think - no sense of the journey. Can't wait to hear about Screw. Happy Y2K.
EC - Sat Jan 1 21:32:34 2000
Way too many hetero grrls at Pride...most of them with severe attitude to boot.Nonetheless had a great time..congrats to that larger than life drag queen who managed to stop the sprinkler system from drowning us out...
^Kerry - Sun Jan 2 13:23:42 2000
What a great night Pride was !!!
Only one question.....why so much security ?
Slightly paranoid - Sun Jan 2 13:55:15 2000
Gary T played magnificently at Arq last night. What a master of soul. We love you.
Brent and Socs - Sun Jan 2 16:46:45 2000
Happy New Year to you all - had a wild time at Pride with a great crowd. Unfortunately some of those hetero girls have too much attitude for a queer event. Leave your handbags at home next time boys!
keep it queer - Sun Jan 2 16:52:07 2000
Happy Year 2000 ! Had a great time at Pride on NYE, but agree the 3rd DJ got a little strange near the end....and there were a lot of str8's there, but luckily I missed the ones with serious 'tude. Not sure about the central stage....seemed to seperate the crowd into 4 groups - but on the upside, you could see the shows from just about anywhere. All in all a great night...congats to Pride.
Jeffgg - Sun Jan 2 17:32:24 2000
I agree with Brent & Socs about Mr T, he did play some nice stuff : ) but the DJ that did it for me over the weekend was Scott Shimmia in the Cocktail bar of Stonewall. His music & mixing was flawless !
Dan - Sun Jan 2 18:53:38 2000
Screw 2000 - great (very queer) crowd and awesome music, but only about half full. Sydney's queer underground deserves better support than that.
Technowarrior - Sun Jan 2 21:10:09 2000
perhaps techno & trance is on its way out ?
Ula Sinlclair - Sun Jan 2 22:35:13 2000
Well I packed my glowsticks, "tune" card and dummy and did the Gatecrasher thing in Shefield for New Year. Caught the bus up from London and heard Carl Cox on Radio 1 playing live from Bondi (it was 1 in the aftrnoon here) and thought about all my friends who were at Pride. Got to Shefield about 5.30 pm and joined the cue to get in. Gates were supposed to have opened earlier but the event licence haddn't been approved because of safety issues. Oppps. The line at our gate was about 1.5km and about the same at the other gate. The police had drug dogs walking back and forth along the line with lots of people looking very nervous. Finally gates opened but it was very slow getting people in. I heard on a security radio that another gate was about to open so we went there and cue jumped about 6000 people. The tent was about as big as the RHI and the setup was pretty good. The sound system was a bit lacking and there was only 1 laser. I thought the music was all over the shop, with so many DJ's playing and then leaving to do another party there was no flow. A lot of tracks were played 2 or 3 or even 4 times through the night and towards the end the DJ's were becomming a little self indulgent doing things like turning the deck off mid track and doing lots of other "experimental" things which to me and others I talked to sounded like s*hit. There was very little new music which was a bit of a shame. At midnight someone climbed the lighting rig and stopped everything for about 20 min, at one stage it looked like he was going to jump which would have been very messy. All in all it was a good night and i'm glad i did it. I was expecting it to be heaps better than say a Mardi Gras but think our party is certainly on par or perhaps even better. Hope everyone in Aust. had fun. Gotta go and get dressed now as we are going to Limelight and DTPM.
BND - Mon Jan 3 7:49:48 2000
did anyone go to NYK2 ? I really want to know what Cevin Fisher was like. c'mon, spill the beans
Mr Panties - Mon Jan 3 12:36:03 2000
Loved Pride. I think the central stage is an excellent idea as everyone gets to see the shows & its easier to find buddies. I was surprised by the number of straights there, especially straight girls. Wasn't there a party on at the Bankstown RSL or somewhere like that for them?? Although most of the straights were gay friendly, some had really weird expectations about getting picked up. Let's hope Mardi Gras isn't quite soo straight.
Now that the party season is well & truely here, let's make the most of it & party, party, party,....
Mon Jan 3 14:07:37 2000
thought pride was really really wonderful....thanx to everyone who made it such a success, the snow storm was, well it just was....and thanx to reece for being so cute...too bad he fled at 8.00am....oh well, till mardi.......
keanu - Mon Jan 3 17:12:02 2000
We went to Tropical Fruits for NYE and it was fantastic. A hail storm did not dampen the event. Amazing lighting show and fireworks. Music was great except for the last dj in the main tent. she has strange music tastes for a gay and lesbian partty.
The recocery the next night was even better. Great anthems superbly mixed with new music. Whoever was the dj he was great. Anybody know who he was and where he works. Think he was from Brisbane. He played from 6:00pm till around 3:00am and went off.
Thanks for the partys Fruits we will be back.
Mon Jan 3 19:09:11 2000
NV Cocktail beach party was fantastic. gary T was smooth, Jude rocked, Kelly was a maniac, Coco reeled everyone in, Lexie brought the night to a screaming end and a packed house stomped for more from her after close.
Strut went off in the lighting department too. Brilliant line up kids, thanks for twelve hours of insanity.
Special thank you to the stylish MsThing and her skillful fan dance heh heh heh

Am pretty busy dyke - but want to go clubbin at least once a month. Anyone???? Age not important. Must like dancin non stop in atmosphere such as NV.

Emailed Pride in Sept. to see if they were having a party. received a really rude & sarcastic reply an 29 Dec from their secretary, Neale Craker basicly saying that the pride party wasn't for country people. Here's a quote "I don't know where you are or why you don't have access the Sydney Lesbian and Gay papers (are you in prison or in Antarctica?) and I'm not sure why you feel that you need special notification of parties
that presumably you would not be able to attend." Thankyou Neale, I understand that us blokes from the bush aren't welcome at your party.
I drove over to Lismore for the best Tropical Fruits party ever & I won't be going to Pride again - not with their attitude.
malc@lis.net.au - Tue Jan 4 1:01:41 2000
MobileHome was absolutely brilliant. Very Str8 (as expected)who were very playful & friendly, with a smattering of gays & lesbians to dance away with. Carl Cox was flawless.
Tue Jan 4 9:19:51 2000
Well if what Malc is saying is true well then I am once again totally disgusted in the Gay community's shallow attitude. I can only offer Malc my sympathies and say that not all of us are like that - it just ashame that the powers that seem to be are!
I'm glad you managed to have a good night anyways malc
MsG - Tue Jan 4 9:43:09 2000
I'd just like to say I had a fabbo time at Pride except for the snowstorm which was an absolute bitch to get out my hair!
LB - Tue Jan 4 10:10:06 2000
Perhaps Una Sinclair needs to get out more.
Nat - Tue Jan 4 10:22:17 2000
....I'm really sorry Alex but Kelly Lynch is my new favourite dj...; - ) OUT @ NV went off!
MsThing- still smiling - Tue Jan 4 10:51:14 2000
Any Frisky reports? Was it worth the admission price? Who was the special guest?
Tue Jan 4 12:40:05 2000
Dear Subtle as a Sledghammer, no, I am not Jude nor Kelly, and they have not hired me to do their pr for them. I just had such a brilliant time that I had to share the experience. I'm still smiling like Ms Thing and my feet are killing me but goddam I would do it all again tonight if it was on.
It's all about that track feeling all right by the 3 Jays.
sleezymonkey - Tue Jan 4 12:45:57 2000
the special guest at Fwisky was 80's flash in the pan, Collette - singing "Ring My Bell" she looked radiant in lycra byke shorts, boob tube & doc martins. As rumoured, everyone got a complimentary cup of Lemon Ruskie on arrival. A good time was had by all. The girls in the office had a really great time and think that "you's gays" are a top bunch to party with and cant wait for the next Fwisky : )

frisky.... very much the same old thing... had a ball, but am sick to death of dancing on stairs and the shitty sound quality.. change of venue maybe...
ambulance boy - Tue Jan 4 13:32:32 2000
Enjoyed Pride but some of the crowd was a worry. What happened to the idea of making it a gay event? Remember that a few years ago! Maybe Pride is just out to make money and therefore they need whatever crowd they can get.
Paul G @ darlinghurst - Tue Jan 4 13:46:10 2000
Hell Rooster, I nearly missed your proposal because it was on the other wall and I haven't logged on here myself since before Xmas. I think I'm ready to settle down with you too!
Nat - Tue Jan 4 13:46:47 2000
"ambulance boy" - my apologies if you didn't like the sound quality at Frisky - you can't please everyone with something as subjective as Audio Quality. As far as dancing on the stairs, you could have always tried the dance-floor. Have a wonderful 2000 - thanks for your comments.
Damon - Frisky Audio - Tue Jan 4 13:55:37 2000
What were those amazing effects at Frisky like, Lasers were amazing, mask effects wild and the sound I thought was clear and crisp happy new year to the gang who put it together thanks for a great start to 2000
Impressed - Tue Jan 4 14:17:21 2000
Make it a rule never to post on here anymore but here goes. Frisky was the best ever - moving lighting rigs, trippy giant masks, over the top lasers used very effectively and relatively sparingly, sound was fantastic. Damon, you sent the crowd mental when you crept the sound up leading up to Tina Cousins' performance, left muddy ARQ for dead. Crowd was great, straights tended to congregate bottom right corner of the dancefloor (best avoided), and personally I love dancing on the stairs! JoJo's set was his best ever - a mix of his percussionny/piano trance trademark that we haven't heard enough of in the last few Frisky's and commercial crowd pleasers, rendered flawlessly as only Damon's boxes can! Luke was great too. Worth every penny and a lot more. Wished it didn't have to end. I challenge anyone to say they were ripped off or disappointed. Thanks Frisky team for a great Millennium Party!!
Moby's Dick - Tue Jan 4 14:36:24 2000
Don't tell me, let me guess. The last DJ in the main tent at tropical Fruits was Visceral? But afterall, what is 'gay and lesbian' music these days? And Ula, you definitely need to get out more. The fact that Screw was not as busy as it should have been was more likely related to the fact that many people like me wanted to be with their friends on that night, which meant Pride - where Paul Goodyear started the night off surprisingly hard and pumping, but the momentum was lost when he finished.
EC - Tue Jan 4 15:04:46 2000
oh baby, I get out a lot (far too much really) I enjoy all dance music ( except for cheesy hi-nrg ) my comment was simply that perhaps trance has peeked ? (in popularity, not genre)
Ula Sinclair - Tue Jan 4 16:13:44 2000
The now widespread popularity of techno and trance is evident by the fact that these styles are now played by many DJs at a wide range of venues. Whether they continue to increase in popularity remains to be seen. I am constantly surprised by some of the DJs who now include these styles in their sets. Speaking of which, Gas rocked on Sunday night, especially when they stopped playing that disco shit at midnight and got into some seriously good tech-house and trance. Great crowd as well but the drink prices suck and so do the warm water only taps (isn't that illegal?)
Nat - Tue Jan 4 17:51:23 2000
It is indeed! Think someone should do something about that, Gas people. Ya are breaking the law!
Tue Jan 4 18:58:15 2000
I didnt hear any trance (thank christ) at Gas on sunday night. what drugs were you on ? are you sure you werent at Arq ?
Jack Yo Body ! - Tue Jan 4 19:23:13 2000
Well...i was a Pride. And i did enjoy it,apart from the some of the people in the crowd.I think perhaps next year there should be a venue with the large majority gay.Not to say that i dont like straights, but being a gay boy myself i love a pumping gay crowd. What i absolutley loved was Arq on Sunday,i had an absolute ball and meet some nice boys :)
TruBoy - Tue Jan 4 20:18:43 2000
when is mardi gras 2000 wall gonna be posted up...i believe dj selection is well under way and to be finalised by around 20/1/00....rumour has it that total dj submissions are down dramatically from 1998 and 1999....maybe asking dj's the try to get there shit together and submit a demo and resume...etc..etc with a closing date of 21/12/99 was just a bit DUMB...being so close to xmas and that thing we all just went thru called NYE !
anyway will be interesting to see what Mr Horder and co and Mardi Gras have lined up musically...afterall mardi gras is only
60 days way fom today....Oh,God...another countdown !!!
Tue Jan 4 21:27:06 2000
Frisky wow wow wow! Thanks to all involved. The lasers (how many were there?) certainly took me on a journey or two. Music and sound sensational. The whole package - just amazing. Tina Coussens I could watch again and again. I can't wait to be feeling frisky again and again. Congratulations.
PS. Does the Frisky laser guy work anywhere else around town or is he exclusive to Frisky?
Jon P. - Wed Jan 5 0:25:17 2000
The Frisky laser 'guy' on the night was a combo of Paul/Peter (oracle) and driven by Steven Hales who can dance with light like no other I've seen before but hey it is a team effort at frisky and the attention to detail that is put into each frisky event is 150% rest assured audio/lighting/performers/theming/music are all given a massive amount of time and effort, hence the success and on going energy... it has only just begun welcome to 2000.

Danni - Wed Jan 5 0:47:47 2000
Thanks for the feedback on Tropical Fruits' NYE. The Dj at Recovery was the very much underated Les Smith from Brisbane. Gavan Bright also did a guest appearance early. Yes Visceral did play a late set, but not in the 'main' marquee as there were two marquees of equal size, but with different moods, lighting and music styles. My observation was that the guests were evenly split between the two which is why we go to so much effort to ensure guests at Tropical Fruits' events have choice. Hope that everyone had a great new year.
BC from TF - Wed Jan 5 11:45:12 2000
The Frisky laser team, or parts thereof, also work MG, Sleaze, ICE and Hey Homo, with varying budget levels but always ingenious. Other parties use some of the hardware but without direction and good operators it is just more bright lights.
Flatulent Fox - Wed Jan 5 12:27:47 2000
Oracle Lasers are the most progressive and agressive laser company in Australasia. They had NYE Jobs in 2 Major Asian Cities as well as heaps og gigs here.
Wed Jan 5 14:04:50 2000
I agree the notice given to DJs was ridiculously short, particularly considering the music is one of the most important parts of the party. Very silly. But if the Party Millennium CD is any indication then things seem to be progressing. CD1 by Luke Leal is not unlike one of the earlier Gatecrasher collections and CD2 by Sveta is pumping and hard. Not an 'anthem' in sight.
EC - Wed Jan 5 14:18:19 2000
ARQ needs a change of DJs. Strat with the straight man Paul goodyear on sat nights.

Hey Ambulance boy. Are you really an ambulance person? Why don't you come and do medical at the best party in sydney (world? I'm not really qualified to comment) and look at the party from another perspective. The frisky crowd is brilliant, lights spectacular and sound is brilliant. I can't understand your comment about the sound as, knowing how much work goes in, it is constantly tweaked from all sides of each room. Oh well, as Damon suggested - can't please everyone! Thanks to all from (and at) Frisky for a great night!
Frisky medical - Wed Jan 5 17:50:45 2000
Just loved Pride and ARQ - what a way to recover !! - hey - a suggestion - is it possible to display the name of the playing track at ARQ - like in a record store - since I hear sooo many cool tunes then never know what CD to ask for to hear them at home. Hats off to who ever played the Sat nite recovery at ARQ (and just who was he/she?)
All partied out - Wed Jan 5 18:14:43 2000
EC: I didn't think that the next Mardi Gras CD had been released yet? As for DJ selection, I believe that submitted tapes are not the only means by which DJ's are selected (thankfully).
Technowarrior - Wed Jan 5 18:21:30 2000
hey 'frisky medical'. you got me in one, and was more than impressed with you guys @ frisky. i briefly saw you guys helping some cute thing who decided to swallow more than he should. as for working on the med team, no thanx. oh, and as for my comment re the sound quality, i probably should have explained myself a little better. but @ the metro there always seems to be too many pockets where the sound is less impressive. i know the whole frisky team do more than their best, but im always left thinking the venue kinda sux. still, im always there, and looking forward to the next one.
ambulance boy - Wed Jan 5 19:05:56 2000
well i for one what it "anthemic" in at least the RHI for Mardi Gras...problem is that so many dj's are soooo afraid to play anything mainstream these days for fear of being looked down upon when its the majority of punters who actually want to hear mainstream music....its one nasty catch 22 if you ask me !!
I have faith that Mardi Gras will this year of all years give back to majority of party goers to the music that appeals to that majority !
anthems for at least the RHI 2000 - Wed Jan 5 21:23:50 2000
Johnnyboy cannot agree with the previous post enough, could not have put it better myself.sick of luke leals and paul goodyears and the type who only make half hearted efforts to play so called majority music.Fact is They DONT.
Mardi Gras is meant to be camp so why cant in at least one hall the music reflect that feeling.
frustrated johnnyboy - Wed Jan 5 21:34:24 2000
So to glenn horder and the rest of your party committee please help out us girly queens who want to hear girly music...please give us want we want before there are no dj's left in this city who know what to do for us,as it is those sort of dj's i think are a ever so sadly dying breed.
frustrasted johnnyboys afterthought ! - Wed Jan 5 21:38:20 2000
Just what makes you so sure that you are in the majority? I think that you and your tired, boring, inane music should be relegated to one of the tents myself.
Technowarrior - Wed Jan 5 22:14:52 2000
Agreed. I don't think people who want Almighty hi-nrg covers and the Village People are in the majority at all anymore. Music has moved on. It's not as if you aren't still going to get your We Are Familys in the RHI. As for mainstream - what exactly is it when tracks like Silence are in the Top 40? TW: the CD is out this month sometime but there are copies circulating. CD1: Trouser Enthusiasts, Lange, Katcha, Travel, Armin, Fragma, Armin etc, CD2: Dove Beat, Timo Maas, Eisbauer, Hedonix, X-Cabs, D-Factor etc
EC - Wed Jan 5 22:48:30 2000
Dj submissions for mardi gras closed this week, so i believe, well this is what i was told by mardi gras anyway.
Thu Jan 6 0:51:32 2000
enough of luke leal and paul goodyear's music. give others a go at the RHI. its bad enough they hog one of sydney's best club (ARQ). move on BOYS!
Thu Jan 6 9:06:03 2000
The fact that the RHI is packed shows how many people enjoy the music there.
Thu Jan 6 9:09:17 2000
I don't mind what they play as long as there's no more covers of Downtown. Rob Davis you should be ashamed of yourself.
Thu Jan 6 9:20:39 2000
"The fact that the RHI is packed shows how many people enjoy the music there" - No, it shows there is no alternative!
Thu Jan 6 9:24:26 2000
Thu Jan 6 9:06:03 2000 OI you guys! Stop slagging. I have learnt this is not the way to go. Criticism is OK, but there is a difference. Personally, I hope they do pick Luke, and I hope he kicks some wicked progressive arse, as with his set at Ice recently. To yop - what does a DJs sexuality have to do with the music they play?? Please, do explain this to me - I'm dying to understand.
The idiot formerly known as... - Thu Jan 6 10:10:07 2000
Sorry for late post. I went to Tropical Fruits. I was very annoyed that in the tent I was in at Midnight, 2 ABBA songs were played. Really!!! I like ABBA, but not at a dance party. Maybe I found myself in the wrong tent - I left and didn't go back to it! But the main tent was fantastic for most of the morning thereafter! Overall - great night.
Good to hear Les Smith played a great set at the recovery. He did so at Brisbane Sleaze recovery also. I just wish he would do it more often in his regular gig!!!

The fact that the RHI is packed shows that that's where the international acts are ; )
EC - Thu Jan 6 14:39:12 2000
why is that very few people seem to bitch about DJs like Alex Taylor? why is it that so many people dislike luke leal and paul goodyear? could it be that Alex Taylor just does his JOB and is not out pushing his own PR, luke, paul?

What do you mean there is "no alternative" to the RHI - do the Hordern and the Dome not exist - have I just imagined them the last 10 years? What a trip I must have been having. You people can be so stupid.
Thu Jan 6 17:21:19 2000
I spent most of my time in the Hordern at Sleaze, but each time I ventured over to the RHI it seemed pretty girlie/anthemy/mainstream to me. I was sure that everyone there was having a great time so I went back to the Hordern where there was music I liked. Isn't that the reason for more than one hall?
Thu Jan 6 18:55:33 2000
ones persons girlie/anthemy/mainstream is another persons
trance/boring/hohum.
Thu Jan 6 19:10:28 2000
so can someone say definitivly when dj's are being chosen for mardi gras?I know M/G tickets normally sell out by late january but i refuse to buy until i know what i am gonna get on the night musically....its like saying come and buy a ticket for a concert at the entertainment centre but be wont tell you who you are gonna see until the tickets are all sold....in the end you might get to see the spice girls or maybe you might get to see Kamahl !!

having just looked at this wall it seems that there are people here who seem to think that the major parties ie mg and sleaze are for them only.If you cant find something you like between the Horden.RHI and Dome then just dont go.You will not be missed!

Music and sound at the Parties is a big grumble with me.
Take the crap sound at RHI Sleaze, which would have to be one of the best examples of bad sound I have ever heard - woolly, muddly, and doing the Arq resonance thing so you cant actually hear the melody at all.
Other side of the coin was the sound at Pride. Tight, punchy, full spectrum, effortless sound - a delight to listen to. My hats off to whoever engineered the system. We now just have to get Mardi Gras to use the same people for Mardi Gras this year. That way we might be able to hear the sound in the RHI if they put that stupid bridge back.
As for music quality... Once upon a time the DJ's used to listen to what the crowd was doing, and feed the crowd enjoyment (eg. witness crowd reaction at the latest Frisky - JoJo and Luke played brillantly, with regular cheers from crowd telling them that they were getting it right). Compare that with the crap dished up by many of the inexperienced DJ's that are given a chance at the large parties - these guys get up - do their thing and go home - whatever happened to the crowd liking what is played.
Sadly this may well be part of the way these guys are trained - i.e they arent trained, the just learn by themselves. It has been a long time since I have heard cheers from the crowd at Sleaze or MardiGras (or Pride for that matter) when a new track comes on. This should tell both the DJ's and the organisers something, but it doesnt seem to. Problem for the new guys is that they do not have the experience to feel the crowd, and change their sets as necessary. Most of them go to the party knowing exactly what they will play, and in what order, and they do not have the developed skill to be able to adjust that on the fly.
So, for me, let the new guys learn elsewhere, and let the experienced guys play at the big parties, where they can apply their skills of "feeling out" the crowd and adjusting their sets accordingly.
Luke & JoJo for Mardi Gras!!

to all without somthing interesting to say, pls get over it!
I don't go out of my way to here luke leal or paul goodyear play but when I do they demonstrate talent both in music selection and mixing. go check out ARQ on sat or sun nights!
you have so many other options, gas, shift, home ect ect.
I know why I only read this page every six months. your contrabution is so uninteresting.
cluber - Fri Jan 7 14:34:32 2000
As far as I can see most of the nastiness to Luke Leal is very personal which makes me think that a few people who post here have been knocked back. And poor Paul Goodyear has committed the abominable crime of being straight. Twenty lashes for him. It seems to me they are both quite talented DJs who perform best when given free rein rather than having to play within in limited parameters. How surprising.
EC - Fri Jan 7 15:59:06 2000
Mr Goodyear is the campest str8 man I know, and he chooses to work in gay clubs - most of his friends are bent. He's not my style musically but his talent is unquestionable and he is a joy to watch and listen to (technically). Glad to have you as a part of our community Paul! If only all gay DJs had his dignity - some are absolute bitches!
Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man - Fri Jan 7 16:47:25 2000
Fruits was the best party we have ever been to and every DJ played really well. (Especially myself hehehe) Thanks To all involved for putting on such a Superb night which I will always remember. Thanks to the Crowd for packing out my floor and really being up for it. Not only did you and I KICK arse you made my century. Love to you all, you know who you are.
DJ Gavan Bright - Fri Jan 7 19:31:10 2000
I must say i am no sound engineer but the sound during Tina's show was exeptional i think. As for the sound for the rest of the night you can only engineer sound so much to make so many people happy. A frisky party would have a different feel to a Ice party. Personally i like both sounds they are great for the type of music played at the events. What other venue in Sydney could you move "FRisky" too short of going to a club ie: home etcc higher ticket prices etc etc i think the sound man did an excellent job and try moving off of the stairs 'Ambulance Boy' or couldn't you.....
Why are u Ambulance Boy.....??????
Frisky Punter.....!!!!! - Fri Jan 7 19:46:21 2000
for all those people already sreaming about dj selection for mardi gras i can let you know that i sopke to a mate who is on party committee and that person told me that dj selection will be finalised by about 20 Jan.
As for those queens who were screaming about it being girly and commercial in at least one hall.....i think your prayers may be answered...the rumour is that at least one hall (probably RHI) will be "VeRY" High Camp musically....theme sortta like going back to our roots etc...Blah !
i can live without that thanks ! - Fri Jan 7 19:47:20 2000
YAY ! Re the previous post.Johnny boy would be in rapturers if they make the RHI Hi Camp. Please let this rumour be true !

RE a couple of posts back saying RHI for Mardi Gras is Davis,Leagh, and Munroe.......what trip are you on......the committeee still hasnt circulated all the tapes round to the entire committee yet....you are so premature in that scandalous gossip.....get a grip.....no firm decision until the final meeting on or about January 20....ps if by some fluke of nature it was davis/leagh and munroe then god help us all....none of them can mix and none have that mardi gras camp feeling in their music style .......get over it !!!!......please someone give me a bucket and let me throw up.....what this party needs is a bit of hi camp.....dj's like sean manley, stephen bloomfield, and alex taylor (when he goes off into his girly side of his music taste!) and james fraser from melbourne....now that would be a party to remember......

Fu*k having an international act at MG. Will the party committee please give some serious consideration to having an International DJ. There will be several big names in town - Boy George, Dave Seaman, David Morales and the list goes on. By using on of these DJs, a whole generation of younger gays & lesbians may just be tempted to attend MG & sleaze parties. Its a big party on a huge site, so diversify the music, get a name DJ.

Mon Jan 10 10:28:40 2000 - the fact that a DJ has a 'name' doesn't necessarily mean he or she is better than many of the gay and lesbian DJs we have in Australia. It just means they've worked in places like Ministry and Cream - which are starting to sound very mainstream if you listen to their recent releases. Instead of spending huge dollars for some of the guys you've mentioned (Dave Seaman is not quite a household name yet) Mardi Gras might be better off giving a serious listen to some of the DJs from Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane to bring a bit more diversity to the parties - but the reaction from some Sydneysiders to doing that would be yet another criticism they'd have to face.
EC - Mon Jan 10 16:08:45 2000
Could not agree more with you EC. There are quite a few Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth DJs that could show some Sydney DJs as well overseas ones how to read a crowd and entertain them. Having been to gay clubs in all capital cities there are some very good gay and lesbian DJs in other states about time they were given the opportunity. No doubt if it someone from interstate was chosen someone would bitch about it.

Bloody hell sometimes i think some of you guys are just plain thick headed and really stupid too boot. What does "sglmg" stand for......of course it stands for "SyDNEY" gay and lesbian mardi Gras.all this crap about using out of town dj's from interstae and worse still from overseas.Personnally i really like what warren gluck (New YOrk) played at mardi gras 1997,1998,and 1999
(well in parts anyway) so you see we have used one o/s dj contray to the previous posting a few back.As for using "name" dj's....sheeesh has anybody heard boy george...i have....what a wanker, cant mix to save himself and i even heard him let a record run out when he hadnt even picked out another song to play next.....90 seconds of silence was such a treat !!
As for the David Morales factor....my god,he would only be suited to the dome and that would be a slap in the face to him not to showcase him in the main hall.
This party called mardi gras is sydney's party....we should be showcasing dj's from this city not blow in and blow out strangers from out of town...further more mardi gras pay a pityful $200 an hour for there dj's.....think david morales would work for that....yeah right !!
if i was an american boy in town for the party the last thing i would want to hear is some dj from my home town playing the same old stuff i dance to back at home....
Get it together guys...sydney has plenty of dj talent and they work soooooo hard during the year....mardi gras and sleaze for that matter should be a reward to the hard working dj's in this city and this city alone !As for interstae, overseas, out of space, and any other stray dj's travelling the galaxy....well they can go to hell ! Cmon guys support your local talent..if ya wanna hear boy george, david morales and the like save your pennys and go hear them on their own turf !!!!!!!!
OH>>>>PS...what a shame that mirror ball didnt do more harm to boy george when it fell on him recently....maybe might have jolted a few braincells back into action !

Mr Panties - Tue Jan 11 1:11:33 2000
Melbourne DJ's rarely get a guernsey at Mardi Gras or Sleaze, and if so only on some side show. Melbourne dance parties always have a Sydney DJ in a main slot - and interestingly in recent times, rarely the DJ's playing Sleze or Mardi Gras.
Tue Jan 11 8:55:02 2000
Sydney boy sounds like a Sydney DJ. And very parochial at that. While I agree that we have an abundance of DJ talent in Sydney and that Sydney DJs should comprise the majority at Mardi Gras, we must also accept that Mardi Gras is an international event, and therefore consideration should be given to including some interstate and international DJs. I won't comment on Warren Glucks supposed "international DJ" credentials. I wonder why DJs at MG play such long sets (4 hours). If all DJs played two hours each you'd be able to give twice as many the opportunity to play at this event. Two hour sets are almost standard now excpet at big gay and lesbian events.
Nat - Tue Jan 11 9:51:53 2000
Mark Murphy for Hordern Mardi Gras!! Pleeeeeeeeease?
Tue Jan 11 9:53:47 2000
An international DJ @ a Sydney party would not be such a bad thing. Sure it is a Sydney party but with an international appeal and publicity. I wonder if Luke Leal & Sveta would like the opportunity to play alongside a renoun international (& not Warren Gluck.) Surely this will provide greater exposure for local DJs who may one day want to play outside of Sydney.
Tue Jan 11 10:14:49 2000
If a local sydney dj wants to play outside sydney on a regular basis (reference to the last post) then he or she should do what Brent Nicholls did 4 -5 yrs back....pull up roots and move. Now he is doing well and is a success in London !!!
As for "Nat" comment aboiut dj's doing 2 hour sets instead of 4...(yuk)...did you read my note properly? Mardi Gras and Sleaze pay OnLY $200 per hour.all the pressure playing in such a big hall as the RHI or Hordern (plus all the pre party meetings and prep work that goes into a dj's set) for only $400.....Forget it.Until Mardi Gras get it right with their pay rate four hours for $800 is about right. We've all heard the rumours about what the average going rate at your average nightclub was of the recently completed new years eve long weekend....my god i heard of dj's getting up to $1000 an hour at some venues that hold no more than a couple a hunderd people.....now theres something Mardi Gras should think about when they start "budgeting" for dj's at $200 p/h !
Finally...re melbourne dj'snot getting the big spots at m/g and sleaze.....look at this.......
sleaze 1995 RHI closing spot (james Fraser) Melbourne
Mardi Gras 1996 RHI middle spot (Tony Svela) Melbourne
Sleaze Ball 1997 Hordern opening spot (John Portelli) Melbourne
Mardi Gras 1995 RHI opening spot (Tony Svela) Melbourne
Also what about Peter McNamara from Melbourne who has (and I'm sorry but I cant remember which years) has done a middle spot in the RHI and a middle spot in the Hordern at a mardi Gras and a sleaze ball in the same year....i think 1995
So Who says Melbourne Dj's dont get a go in sydney !@! pftttt
Finally (again....this is starting to sound like a Ce Ce Pennistone classic "lol") can anybody at all tell me who and if so what asylym did you find them in from overseas with a so called "name" would work M/G or Sleaze for 2hrs for $400 ?
Answer me that riddle Sherlock Holmes !!!! :)

MG have international guest performers, why not DJS. I'd rather hear Sasha mixing some great trance for 5 minutes than Jimmy Barnes screaming and Thelma Houston whaling.
Tue Jan 11 20:12:59 2000
Thelma whaling? I thought she was an animal rights activist. You have a point SydneyBoyand ... but does that also mean you don't want international acts, and really, if as you say it's the Sydney G&LMG, who cares what American muscle clones think about the choice of DJs. You can't have it both ways. Nat, have you called Mark Murphy and made sure he put in a tape? : )
EC - Tue Jan 11 21:01:52 2000
EC:-Who cares if we do or dont have international acts. Why should SGLMG have to pay thousands and thousands of dollars for a 5 minute act at our party....if ya wanna see some so called "international act" wait for them to tour and get your own personal monies worth at a performance that will last more than 5 lousy minutes....Mardi Gras is being ripped off...money that could be more wisely invested in the majority of the night which brings me back to the lousy situation of $200 per hour for the dj's at mardi gras and sleaze.....quite frankly the party would be better off NoT having international acts and sticking to production shows which can be much more entertaining ala the midnight show at pride which was sensational and do doubt more cost effective....who knows by dropping this stupid notion of having a big name play at our party we just might get a price reduction in what is turning into a ever spiraling cost hike for a ticket to such events !
So lets forget this stupid and highly expensive notion of overseas acts and dj's and stick to local talent which is world class !

(lousy situation of $200 per hour for the dj's at mardi gras and sleaze...) I think that Sydney Boy forgets that MG is a not for profit organisation which relies strongly on its volunteer base. Some of these volunteers work countless hours to ensure that the rest of our community gets an arts festival, an outstanding parade & fabulous party. These volunteers work year round and they recieve a comp party ticket and also the satisfaction of knowing that they have given something back to the community. Wouldn't it be nice if DJs also volunteered their services to this event. Sydney Boy, next time you play at a MG Party, consider the effort that has gone into the event by volunteers who don't get paid....Let's see if you can match their contribution, even if it is only for four hours.

dj rhetorical - Wed Jan 12 11:34:38 2000
I'll play for free if MG buys my records for the night
Wed Jan 12 12:17:48 2000
Personally, I agree with Sydney Boy re the MG and Sleaze shows.....the shows I have enjoyed the most were the big productions with lots of volunteer dancers from among our own community. Insead of a single star, and a sometimes disappointing performance (Boy George and Hari Krishna being one memorable exception!), I would rather see lots of local talent up on the stage having fun and putting on a great show.
Jeffgg - Wed Jan 12 14:14:58 2000
Live doesn't mean playing records (or pushing "play")
Wed Jan 12 16:24:24 2000
From thecircuitdog.com - Y2tea Amnesia Miami Beach. David Knapp should be knighted for his amazing performance at Y2Tea Sunday night. Of course the incredible outdoor venue at Amnesia helped the vibe immensely, but David caused a miracle to happen: every song until closing at 5:15am had lyrics!! In my 20 years of going out I've never heard such a great non-stop mix and in this
pots-and-pans-happy dance culture I don't expect I ever will again. I would pay damn good $$$ to get a CD set of that music.
Never enough words - Wed Jan 12 16:26:09 2000
Many Mard Gras parties SydneyBoyand ...? That narrows it down somewhat. And admiration for Warren Gluck? hmmmmmmmm. I'm not sure that $200 an hour is exactly lousy, but when you factor in the cost of buying music, the pressure on a DJ playing to so many difficult to please people, and the fact that international acts get paid a small fortune, maybe you have a point. The issue of volunteers vs paid staff is always going to be a touchy one and there is no simple solution to it. As far as the international acts go, I enjoyed Kylie both times but I really could live without them and the whole Leeson Vegas style of shows. Give me a laser rainbow serpent or a snowstorm anyday.
EC - Wed Jan 12 16:38:07 2000
Here it is......its official......mardi gras dj selection will be finalised at a meeting on tuesday night January 18.
Wed Jan 12 17:28:25 2000
ok, lets play "pick the deejays" for MG2000. here's what I'd choose - Dome: Junior B, Ben Drayton, Anabelle Gaspar. Hordern: Steven Allkins, Scott Shimmia, Danny Tenaglia(yummy). RHI: Alex Taylor, Gavan Bright, Sveta. Boys Space: Buck Naked, Bill Cotsis. Girls Space: Jude Tsai, Lexie Bradfield. that's just my 2cents worth : );
HeadHunter - Wed Jan 12 20:00:18 2000
you forgot Kelly Lynch...... : - )

Wed Jan 12 20:33:17 2000
Dearest Headhunter///Re your dj selection for mardi gras, let me say this:-
(1) if that was they line up then people would be looking for a head hunter to execute the mardi gras board and (2) your two cents worth is just about what that dj line up would be worth
Poof Daddy!! - Wed Jan 12 20:42:27 2000
Sveta to close the RHI ? How bizarre ! How totally silly ! How ever so not going to happen !
Wed Jan 12 20:48:31 2000
Gavan your self promotion is getting out of hand dear. Fancy picking yourself in the line up. Tsk.
Wed Jan 12 21:15:44 2000
Just a word of warning to people. There are rumors that there are bad batches of es going around so be very careful
Wed Jan 12 21:26:25 2000
Well if we can go from sleaze last year then I know that Glenn Horder (party director) reads this graffitti wall on occassions.
Dear Glen.........will you please be posting the dj's on this board next tuesday night and put everyone out of their misery??
Wed Jan 12 21:28:43 2000
oh what a foul selection of dj's for mardi gras you have done Mr HeadHunter, you have not given us one single dj who will play anything slightly handbag/commercial (Shame on You).
Its mardi gras for gods sake, camp it up girls !
frustrated johnnyboy - Wed Jan 12 21:33:12 2000
Homo Eclectus will be happening again on the 4th of March with the following DJ's!! Upstairs will be Thao, Mark Murphy, Vic &
Reiki Aura Vs 2Hard.....Downstairs will be Bill Morley, Oberon, Lanny K & Miss Yetti. More details to come.
HE - Wed Jan 12 22:45:21 2000
Headhunter is clearly a deep house and funk fan, with that style dominationg three of his/her five venues. Rather unbalanced I'd say. For my five cents worth (and off the top of my head) I'd pick Dome: Junior B, Steve Alkins v Ben Drayton, Mandy Rollins; Hordern: Faye Raye, Sveta, Mark Murphy, Ian M (my international choice - plays at Trade London); RHI: I'd let Frustrated Johnnyboy choose because I neither know nor care about handbag DJs; Boys tent: Steve Worthy, Steve Sonious, Lanny K; Girls tent: Kelly Lynch, Jude Tsai, Josh (Adelaide).
So there ya go. - Wed Jan 12 22:50:52 2000
Will that give Mark Murphy enough time to make it from HE to the Hordern?
Wed Jan 12 22:54:16 2000
TO "There you Go"...........ta ! thans for letting me be the judge and jury on handbag dj's for the RHI...dont mind if i do....how about mmmmmmmmmm lets see, well i like what james fraser played at nye recovery frisky...but he is from melbourne and i know others wouldnt approve !!!!so what do the rest of you guys think should be playing RHI....keeping in mind we should set aside this hall for handbag ?? I'm at a loss...does anyone still play handbag and where ?
frustrated johnnyboy - Thu Jan 13 2:20:43 2000
If Gavan Bright is playing at Wet Dreaming at Byron maybe it should be just called Wet. Supremely untalented.
Damian H - Thu Jan 13 4:04:41 2000
Apparently MG only got 4 tapes submitted....
Thu Jan 13 5:27:06 2000
Re There Ya Go - not bad, but I'd swap Steve Worthy into the Dome. My two favourite moments at Parties ever have both been to his sets in the Dome, one at Sleaze and one at Inquisition. What does Mandy Rollins play? I think she's playing at Red Raw.
Thu Jan 13 9:37:24 2000
yeah, I do like it deep & funky, but like I said, it's just my 2 cents worth. so please dont bitch about MY opinion. feel free to write your prefered line party line up. (and who ever insinuated that I'm Gavin Bright is really bloody wrong. I dont even know him, but I think he'd be good in the RHI, as he worked nicely at Pride a couple of years ago in there)

To however who thinks that I’m self promoting myself in the MG line up (Wed Jan 12 21:15:44 2000) I was actually flying somewhere over the deep blue pacific to LA, (call my flatmate to confirm you imbecile) where I’m posting this from, get your facts correct dear before you start slandering people! When I write something on Pinkboard I have the integrity to sign my name to my Posting. Many of you have made false accusations towards other people who have made several postings that their comments have been mine. Panther and I know that these other people are not me. When I post I always post from my ISP server assigned DNS (except when I'm out of the country). Get a life and stop trying to live someone else’s.
This pitiful display of negative comments about me every time the Mardi Gras Committee has to select DJ’s for a party says one thing to me, that is that who every you are you must (A) Be another DJ (B) And feel very threatened to get on this board and sign my brothers name to a false posting (Damian H - Thu Jan 13 4:04:41 2000)
My set’s at partys such as Pride, Wet Dreaming, Tropical Fruits, & the Wickham Hotel all Kicked ARSE.

Cut the crap guys. Gavan you keep buying into this sort of thing - when will you learn? As far as handbag and the RHI go the Party Millennium CD tends to suggest there won't be so much of it - I would guess that there will be a hell of a lot of nu-nrg and Eurotrance played there, but someone has to play Tina Cousins et al. I wonder whether WG submitted a tape.

Hey some-one warned about bad E's yesterday!
What does that mean? Like what happens to you ? How are they bad? What do they look like ?
Sometimes the E is not what is Bad it's just the user.
The E's are getting stronger they are more pure and we have not seen this kind of E regularly in Sydney, for some time.
Hey be smart If you do not recognise the E Try a little test it out first and see how you go. It beats spending the night spaced off ya face or in St V's casuality.
Remember to look after your friends.
If you have had a bad experience give us some details so others do not make the same mistake.

Responding to these morons only gives them your energy. Keep well honey!

The new Downstairs Shift line up is much more today (well the 90s decade anyway), and once the damage recent VJs have done to the crowd is repaired, it will be more than jumping! No more piss in the box! No more getting carried out drunk! Professionalism returns at last!!
Fri Jan 14 11:48:10 2000
Eric Morillo ! Jocelyn Brown ! Harry Choo Choo Romero ! Richard F ! Superdome in feb ! yeeehaaa. excellent line up except for that putrid excuse for a DJ, Jeremy Heely (barf) wanna kill a parties cred ? put jeremy healy on the bill.

Did someone say only 50 days to mardi gras...shit !!!!!!!!!!
Fri Jan 14 19:27:53 2000
yes only 50 more days to worry about what to wear, what to take, whether to bother with the parade crowds, how many changes of clothes to carry, the DJ line-up, whether it's Donna or Vanessa or Paul or Tina or Tina or Barbra or George or the Pet Shop Boys ... something to occupy our every waking moment at last.
Fri Jan 14 22:13:54 2000
But we should be also concerned about our dying brothers and sisters in the suburbs. I think we can do both.

MsThing - Sat Jan 15 8:29:52 2000
A friend sent the ICE newsletter onto me and I must say that I think it is the biggest joke I have ever read. That they think that they can take so much (all!) credit for changes to the queer club scene last year is unbelievable. I could go on but I won't. It doesn't even deserve discussion. Whereas before I wanted to support them, now I hope they fail miserably. Guys, your newsletter has done you the greatest disservice. Take a reality check and an ego check and please, get over yourselves.
Technowarrior - Sat Jan 15 11:59:14 2000
Oh gawd, another reaction over Ice Emails. Well I read it over lunch yesterday and find nothing offensive. I read it again just now after reading TW's post and they seem to be commenting on changes generally since October (Ffierce and Trash moving), which are updates - not taking credit. Apart from that they are saying there has been a swapping of ideas between mainstream and alternative, and I cannot find anything incorrect in what they have said there. So did I miss something TW? In the end I think they like to create a stir and you guys on here always bite. I find it amazing that you respond with such emotion to such a new event that threatens no one.
Wonder Twin - Sat Jan 15 13:28:09 2000
I don't know what your on about. I read it on line (www.backdoor.to/ice/newletter) and found nothing to whinge about.
Mr Ed - Sat Jan 15 13:49:34 2000
Techowarrior - if it doesn't deerve discussion then why bring it here? As a regular on this board you should know better than to wish misfortune on promoters, especially ones that have created a full time job out of trying to make a difference. You should expect that any newsletter should be heavy on the propaganda. TW - your credibility has lowered to zero in my eyes.
Hinch - Sat Jan 15 14:45:24 2000
Ice has been getting progressively better since the first one and this one doesn't sound like it is going to let us down. Good on them for having the next recovery somewhere other than ARQ, they are overpriced, over rated and border line homophobic on occasion. We need a good recovery that is gay and lesbian and not straight and purely profit driven - all the hype about ARQ putting something back into the community, charging pub prices and having an amazing lighting rig - did I miss something - at least at the Shift recoveries we kept it in the family.. I don't mind paying good cash to a club or a promotor for a seriously kickarse venue and vibe but ARQ never quite made it. Congratulations to ICE for a really queer, pumping night - looking forward to the next! Are there any promotors thinking of starting a recovery for the party season - I'm first in line.
ARQ full of cash - Sat Jan 15 15:31:43 2000
Hey Homo last night was fantastic. Great crowd, superb music and the usual fun provided by Claire & Verushka. Thanks everyone.

Was Technowarrior coming down off something when he posted his message regarding ICE..?? Did u go to the last one and have a bad time..?? I just checked out the whole web site and didnt find anything wrong with it at all... I may be blind but they seem to be doing a great job and, well.....im a bit taken back by your posting.

The ICE newsletter at their website is not the same as the one I received by email. It's missing a section titled "Mission Accomplished". Reading that with the rest of the newsletter and I'm sorry, but it's just too much bullshit.
Technowarrior - Sat Jan 15 21:35:22 2000
Whatever TW, I read the section you mention and you are way out of line. Their tactics seem to be working for their audience and nasty comments like that aren't going to change much.
Sat Jan 15 23:14:27 2000
oh, who gives a shit ? techno and trance is soulless crap & I cant wait to see the back of it
Jack - Sun Jan 16 2:17:37 2000
Guess what...........48 days to mardi Gras !!
Sun Jan 16 6:36:10 2000
I don't how how Ice can take praise for anything, thay haven't given us anything new at all, there just following in everyone else's foot step. And as for them saying they discovered Baby Bear, what a laugh, Ffierce used him about 2 years ago. I could go on but won't.
AB - Sun Jan 16 9:15:29 2000
Hey Homo is just the best. Friday was no exception. Another great night, and Alex Taylor pumping as usual. I have only one minor worry....the steady increase in the number of straight girls coming. Most seem OK, but I don't know why others bother. Seem determined to scowl their way through the whole night. That small issue aside, another fantastic night !! Great show with the shiny dancing boys too. Well done Home.

Sun Jan 16 14:09:26 2000
Re: Ice newsletter. TW, perhaps you should have read it in conjunction with the Thank Yous. There is a large team behind Ice, its not just Kevin & Craig, and it is heavily influenced by many people, including DJs, industry consultants on light and sound, and even other promoters, local and overseas, and most importantly their punters. I don't believe they are taking credit solely for anything. AB - they say in the newsletter that Baby Bear was a great find for them, not by them. They mention his other creditentials in the same sentence. I suggest you read the DJ profile for Baby Bear on their website. You are going to extremes to find issues with them. Why? As for firsts, I don't believe anyone for example has used a mainstream talent like Luke Leal in the line up for a hard music party before them. It would be great to hear some negative comments from those who have actually been to an Ice. I am involved with a few major parties and believe this one has made a difference in the last few months and will continue to do so.
Team Player - Sun Jan 16 14:56:07 2000
To Team Player: Think back to when Ffierce first started? and Dj's like Steve Worthy, Steve Sonius, Mark Yun, etc had ago playing. so don't give me it's the first time a mainstream Dj has played at an alternative or as you put it a hard music party.
AB - Sun Jan 16 16:19:48 2000
Steve Worthy is only just recently moved to commercial, even handbag music. Steve Sonius and Mark are not known for playing overly commercial. Steve Worthy surprised everyone at the Trash Annual how commercial he had become. But Ice beat that line up by two weeks, with the knowledge that Luke Leal would be breaking his mould, whilst the expectation at trash was the Steve Worthy would be playing hard. Methinks AB missed Team's meaning of "mainstream".
Humphrey - Sun Jan 16 16:44:30 2000
Steve Worthy, Steve Sonius & Mark Yun going back three years ago
played both mainstream and a harder style of music is what i'm saying Humphrey.
AB - Sun Jan 16 18:53:51 2000
Well AB, Luke was not known for playing a harder style! Obviously Team Player meant mainstream in style, not profile.
Sun Jan 16 19:59:11 2000
Well i hardley call what Luke play's @ Ice hard.
Mon Jan 17 1:35:56 2000
You say termater ...
Mon Jan 17 4:30:24 2000
Relative to what is commercial Luke's set @ Ice is very hard and prepares for the much harder stuff played later. All part of the journey and works fab. Much harder than what Steve Worthy plays now, not that there is anything wrong with Steve.
Mon Jan 17 6:47:42 2000
This is just too obvious. Either the promoters of ICE use multiple personalities on this board, or they use a couple of their friends to post for them as well. Either way, some of the pro-ICE postings demonstrate an ignorance of both music and Sydney's queer club scene. I was at the last ICE party and Luke Leal's set was not "hard". Sure, I didn't mind it, but it was progressive and mostly commercial trance. Wayne G's set was pretty ordinary and didn't come close to either Sveta or Mark Murphy, who were relegated on the night to the downstairs level of the Palladium. Great to see our local talent being treated so well! And by the way, $30 for entry to the next party at the Palladium is too much. But you'll find out soon enough for yourselves.
Technowarrior - Mon Jan 17 8:09:46 2000
If ICE has to resort to using 'industry consultants' as mentioned above, and insutling surveys, then they really don't know what they are doing. ICE has not brought anything new to the dance culture of Sydney...oh, execpt of course publicly slagging other promoters and events.
Mon Jan 17 8:35:58 2000
Does anyone need reminding that there is only 47 days to mardi gras ??
And Finally by this time tomorrow night we'll all get put out of our misery on the subject on who will ne playing all the dj spots at mardi gras...."THeN" the bitching will get into at least second gear !!! Sad isnt it ?
Mon Jan 17 9:47:18 2000
With piranhas like the contributors to this board around - why could anyone be bothered bringing anything new to Sydney, it's only going to be ripped apart by you vicious queens. Thank goodness these boards don't exist outside of Sydney.
Mon Jan 17 11:47:20 2000
Who the hell is Technowarrior? I think he could do with a happy pill. He or She always seems intent on ripping to shreads, one party or another or promter or venue, unless it's exactly within his or her musical tastes.
Just a punter who likes to sift through the crap to find out the odd bit of decnt info on this board - Mon Jan 17 12:32:35 2000
Aren't both floors of the Palladium the same size? Didn't both look and sound the same? It seems that people had a choice to move between floors, and chose to stay upstairs. So why did the internationals have the upper hand? Reviews from everyone I know thought it was fantastic. And the media reviews! And I think the surveys are great as a punter, we actually get input, which not one else does! (a first for Ice? Nah, can't be!). They had twice the number to their second party, and without a survey. They don't know what they're doing? Hmmm! And I believe the next party is almost sold out after only a few days. As for slagging, I received at least four messages from them promoting other, non-related parties (ffierce, Screw2000, Sin Bin and Shift Erect), as well as fondly mentioning many others in their propaganda. Who else does this (a first?,Well maybe JoJo does!). To those reviewing this board and wondering what to make of it all, check out www.backdoor.to/ice and see for yourselves, and that will sort out who the "vicious queens" here are! (my God, a website for people laying out what a party is all about? A first? Nah! Everyone has such informative sites and Ice just copied it!) And yes, the friends of Ice do post on this board! As for $30 being too much, refer comments on growth and current sales! Same price as the last one, isn't it?
ne of the Ice friends who posts on this board - Mon Jan 17 13:03:09 2000
Just read the Ice site. TW - perhaps you should stop there. You are being seen as an arsehole. Quit before you get too far behind. As someone said above, you are losing credibility with every poke at them. I think this board is shameful, it would be nice to see some proactive discussion instead of constant slagging by TW and a few others. If you think you can do it better, give it a go, otherwise you have no right to complain. You have the choice not to go! Exercise that right instead of being a bitch.
Mon Jan 17 13:23:08 2000
What about their Underground Calendar? Empty now coz tere's not much coming up, but in December it mentioned everything. That's gotta be a first for a promoter to do. Go Ice!
Mon Jan 17 13:41:48 2000
Board meltdown. I'll be surprised if there's any bitching about the choice of DJs for Mardi Gras because they've managed to keep everyone pretty happy over the last two Sleazes and Mardi Gras 99. So if there is any bitching it will probably be from DJs who didn't get chosen. And as for pro-active, there's plenty of it. Go read again. Sure this place gets a bit heated sometimes but if it didn't exist, what would party promoters and the Mardi Gras board have to talk about at meetings? ; )

I'm pretty much with you on this TW. If ICE want to blow their own trumpet so loudly (they said that) then they should expect to cop a bit of criticism, especially when they start promoting themselves like they're the saviours of Sydney's queer club scene. Frank of sub-culture fame can take credit for that.
Nat - Mon Jan 17 17:49:38 2000
Went to ARQ Friday night and there was a shortage of people. It is usually packed. Has the crowd moved on?
I Go Out Occasionally - Mon Jan 17 17:53:31 2000
You should read the entire newsletter completely and in context Nat, as "Team Player" suggests above. I think that for the mainstream they may be saviours - it seems to be an alternative party aimed squarely at the ARQ crowd, and as far as I know no one has agressively targetted that market yet (apart from Ffierce recently, but that was way after Ice). Think about it again...where are all the posters and stickers? I happen to know at least 10 people that went to the second Black because of the first Ice, people who were curious to afraid to make the jump directly. I could give more examples but won't. And I think they expected some criticism, looks what's dominated the board and is clearly going in their favour? What great advertising. Ice will happen regardless and be successful, so lets get back onto other issues, like MG!
Mon Jan 17 18:10:09 2000
Ice will happen again, but for how long, if they keep losing money like they have at the last 2 parties, not for very long i say.

I don't know of any other alternative party marketing themselves soley at the gay community. At the moment, Black is the only other large alternative party, and is open to straights as well. A lot of straights are into fetish and went to the last one.
Mon Jan 17 19:41:41 2000
Ice lost money? Hahahahaha! I don't think so! Geez, the rumours people will start to cut a tall poppy down! That's the most desperate straw clutching I've seen in this anti-Ice campaign! Obviously many people on here seem threatened by Ice, otherwise it wouldn't be worth the agro, would it? :) Didn't we hear similar rumours about Home and current rumours about ARQ?
Mon Jan 17 19:58:04 2000
The pro-ICE postings just get more and more ridiculous. You people have no f**king idea. I don't have any problem with ICE as a party at all. I quite enjoyed the last one. It's all the bullshit in their newsletters and the crap they post here on this board that has caused me to make comment. The pro-ICE postings made today are just more examples. But that's it from me on this because it just gives the ICE promoters more excuses to post more bullshit.
Technowarrior - Mon Jan 17 21:24:07 2000
OK, we all know you didn't like the newsletter. Leave it at that for f***'s sake!
Mon Jan 17 21:39:40 2000
OK now where were we with Gavan Bright?
Mon Jan 17 22:37:53 2000
why do you guys give gavin bright crap ? what has he done ?
Mon Jan 17 22:57:30 2000
Kooky rocked last Thursday. Biftek are amazing. Live queer techno. yay for something else!
Mon Jan 17 23:10:40 2000
Steve Sonius and Mandy Rollins delivered a hell of a night down the Pheonix last Saturday. All I have to ask is why there aren't more poeple supporting this venue? I haven't been there since the Ben days, but liked the new look, great sound, cute boys. And Mandy, Mandy, Mandy. You are God.
david - Tue Jan 18 1:44:16 2000
Gavan hasn't done anything. Well, apart from a bit of harmless self-promotion over the last few boards. It's that old thing of choosing to be a public figure and making yourself a target. You might as well ask what has Luke Leal done, or Paul Goodyear, whoever. They're successful people who have made a name for themselves and that makes some people resentful. Ask yourself who the real losers are. Hey D, just because Mandy played half the stuff you have in your collection doesn't mean she gets to be Master of the Universe. Chuckle ; )
EC - Tue Jan 18 2:06:58 2000
OK...I know that we've all had enough of the bitching about Ice, and unfortunately, whether it's a good or bad comment, it's publicity none-the-less. But I do have to add my two cents after reading their latest news letter. I must agree with TW and Nat, in that their newsletter is full of nothing but self-praise! It's all 'look at me', 'we're fabulous', 'our shit doesn't stink'. What a big wank!! At least the newsletters from groups like Ffierce, Octopussy and Trash read like a proper newsletter should, and not just full of egotistical self-fulfilled propaganda! I mean really, telling people what time they should gobble down their goodies...what a load of shit! Soon they'll be telling punters how to dance, who to dance with and what to wear! I certainly would not want to be openly 'manipulated' by the party promoter, as they so blatantly admit. Good luck Ice...you'll need it!
Tue Jan 18 9:27:33 2000
The last posting was brought to you by...Technowarrior!
Tue Jan 18 10:39:13 2000
One would hope that Tw and Nat would have the decency to Email their details to Ice so they can be removed from their mailing list, if they have not done so already. I'm not one of the Ice people but another promoter, and obviously such information is not intended for bitches like you. I must congratulate Ice on creating a stir that is challenging MG for Pinkboard space. TW and Nat are your pawns and don't even know it. One of the outlets for our party says Ice tickets are selling extremely well, so I don't think they need luck! One more thing...if you look back to Juily, you'll see the anti-Ice campaign strt from their first announcement, even before any newsletters or ads. The fact that they exist and with such determined arrogance is why they are a threat to some people on this board.
Promo - Tue Jan 18 11:06:35 2000
To Promo...you mention pawns in your blurb...what do you think Ice are referring to when they mention how well they manipulate the crowd???? Those who attend the Ice parties are the pawns placating to those promoters. Now to me, that is not keeping within the spirit of a party, rather, that is exploiting the punters, or should I say pawns, who attend their parties.
Tue Jan 18 11:11:54 2000
Well I can't speak for Promo but I reckon that the "manipulation" at Ice is in a very positive way, to raise everyone to the same level at the same time, not like to "crowd control" manipulation you see at some clubs, where bad music is introduced in one room to herd them into another. Party instructions? What a great idea and yet another first for Ice.
Tue Jan 18 11:21:00 2000

I hardly said a word. ICE claim to want feedback and now when I give them a little here, I'm called a bitch and told that I should email them and ask to be removed from their mailing list. What is this!?
Nat - Tue Jan 18 13:34:44 2000
Nat I don't think the message was from Ice. They don't contribute to the board anymore. If you want to give them feedback you have to do it directly.

You guessed it...........only 46 days to mardi gras
Tue Jan 18 16:41:20 2000
To the person who posted saying Ice haven't made a lose, i think you should do your sums. First hire of club, 7 Djs which 2 were from oversea's, sound & lighting for upstairs, which included several lasers, the decor which is from another promoter i believe. And how bigs there comp list?? And they roughly got between 400 & 500 people. Now if you do your maths, you'll know there's no way they could have made a profit!!
AB - Tue Jan 18 23:28:49 2000
can we talk about something else now ? this is pretty damn boring.
Hoochie Moma - Tue Jan 18 23:42:33 2000
Only 45 days to that thing called mardi gras !!
Wed Jan 19 0:21:55 2000
Well ladies and gents here is the news straight off the press.
I have just been informed by a member of mardi gras party committee that I was not successful in my application to play as a dj at mardi gras (PS:Im NoT Gavan Bright),i wasnt told the official line up as it has yet to be confirmed with the individual dj's yet....however I was able to milk the following information.
Luke Leal is closing the RHI,an overseas dj (?) is playing middle set RHI,Sveta is in the HOrdern (somewhere) and there is another out of town dj (not sure if overseas or interstate) is playing in the hordern as well.
Thats all I know so far,no doubt someone will know more and post it here as soon as it comes to hand.
Unsuccessful (this time) Sydney DJ but definitely not Gavan Bright...please that would insult me ! - Wed Jan 19 0:28:42 2000
Well then that would be appropriate because you just insulted Gavan Bright. How professional of you. Perhaps it was karma ...
Better luck and more grace next time - Wed Jan 19 1:24:54 2000
I think some of you people have finally lost what was left of you're minds. F**king scary if you ask me. So quick to judge - so often wrong.

Does anyone know when Frisky tickets go on sale??
Wed Jan 19 10:32:06 2000
AB - sounds like ICE really is a big budget party. I'm there for the next one! If they are making a loss then I wanna see it in case its the last one!!!
Luv lasers - Wed Jan 19 11:26:29 2000
One would think that even if a comps list is big, if a party is no good no one would go to it even if it was free. Tickets are only a small part of the cost of a night, as you know! So if they had 500 in The Palladium that's unreal!
Mathematician! - Wed Jan 19 11:47:29 2000

AB - Wed Jan 19 16:23:29 2000
Victor Calderone?
Nat - Wed Jan 19 16:34:57 2000
AB - do you think they would make a profit if they sold to capacity? More interesting question - do you think they are doing it to make a worthwhile profit? Isee they are giving to charity for sales this time, that will eat into the margins more.
Wed Jan 19 17:53:01 2000
Everyone ignored my comment about the Pheonix, and panther removed me from the Festival board because I was off topic. Next Loser.

Technowarrior - Thu Jan 20 0:01:21 2000
Certainly I can in the right environment, but is this the one, techno?
david - Thu Jan 20 0:20:48 2000
I reckon that Gavan Bright is not a particularly talented DJ he is very like a commercial radio station that rates poorly desperate for an audience, hence the rotten music he plays - give up honey
Not a Bright future please - Thu Jan 20 2:01:30 2000
This is the opinion of the poster.
Bitter but true
Thu Jan 20 2:04:11 2000
making posts in support of your own comments is pretty pathetic. Are you a failed DJ or an ex-lover?
Thu Jan 20 4:17:48 2000
Yesterday, Mardi Gras was calling and confirming DJ's for the party so hopefully we'll see the schedule in a day or two.
J - Thu Jan 20 9:24:28 2000
The hint was that the international is in the RHI - don't get your hopes up, it will be girly & cheesy. Won't you all be excited when Warren Gluck gets his next spot.

David is playing in Miami on MG weekend. It's their Winter Party.
One day maybe ..... - Thu Jan 20 13:10:19 2000
What selective memories. The middle set in the RHI traditionally stretches quite a way from girly and cheesy - not always (there was 1998) but usually. Stop being so one eyed. Dance in the Hordern and have a good time rather than grinding your teeth and getting all bitter and twisted over people enjoying something you don't like.
Thu Jan 20 15:20:48 2000
If there's an Int'l it will probably be Wayne G or David Morales. Also got told Dj's for Dome are Many Rollins, Steve Sonius & Bill Cotsis.
Thu Jan 20 19:14:44 2000
Heard Wayne G in December in Sydney, he's fantastic!
Thu Jan 20 19:18:43 2000
Wayne is probably a hot contender as I hear he has been booked for a recovery at The Palladium the night after MG.
Thu Jan 20 19:35:08 2000
If the rumours of an international Dj playing in RHI are correct Marc Andrews of Love Muscle may be a logical choice. He would be more suited then Wayne G.
Thu Jan 20 19:52:01 2000
With 90 percent of America's queer DJs and quite a few European queer and str8 ones in town at the time, it could be just about anyone. Let's wait and see ...

I am growing tired of ARQ. Any alternative suggestions..maybe both ARQ and Mardi Gras can spend some $$$$ and pay the Frisky organisers for some tips on how to keep 'em coming?
DisembARQingARQ - Sat Jan 22 23:56:01 2000
David - Jan19 - now this is how you create a reaction on Pinkboard! Watch this! Looking for an alternative? Well, there is ICE next Saturday... :)
A Pinkboard Stirrer - Sun Jan 23 1:33:25 2000
Tierd of ARQ? Not exactly my music taste, but I have heard some great sets there. But more often than not I end up downstairs having a bit of a funk. It's not the music necessarily, it's just that the management still hasn't realised that when the whole venue rattles, it sounds like crap.
david - Sun Jan 23 2:08:26 2000
Ok kaka, try Mandy Rollins, Scott Schimmia & Bill Cotsis.
Sun Jan 23 9:24:31 2000
And Steve Sonius & Bucknaked in the mens space.
Sun Jan 23 9:25:48 2000
Haven't we been here already?
Sun Jan 23 11:42:06 2000
ARQ only have themselves to blame for losing business on Fridays, where I hear that crowds have really dropped. I bet they're now starting to wish that they had been decent and reasonable with some of their promoters.
Mon Jan 24 12:30:12 2000
At least ARQ have the best bar manager in town. You rock Christian
Mon Jan 24 13:50:46 2000
Kooky @ fringe festival was rockin. Naked, live and queer! Hope the rumour re some chemical siblings secret gig this thursday is a winner...

I've read all the bitchy comments...but is ICE a good party..is there friendly cute boys with no attitude and music that is not cheese! Arq is a great looking club but the music is shit!
Ice seems the only alternative for this Sat?

*** Ruby Dance Party - Saturday 29th January ***
If you like the music at Frisky, and Luke Leal's 'signature' style, you'll love the Ruby Dance Party!
DJ'd by Luke Leal (from 2am) and Greg Balodian (from 11pm), the Midnight Shift will pump to the sound of progressive/uplifting/euphoric dance/house/trance music that will spare no survivors for the whole night!
$5 cover charge. 11pm til late. Ladies welcome (no open-toed shoes please - Shift door policy!).
Ruby is a no-attitude zone that will be filled by a very large extended group of friends (& regular patrons), where the emphasis is on the music and having fun on a dance floor! Your support of this fledgeling event will be greatfully welcomed!
Amf... - Mon Jan 24 20:53:53 2000
To: david re: ARQ rattling. Yes, this is a problem, exacerbated primarily by at least one of the "ledgend" resident DJs there, who turns up the bass to the point where you can't hear the high frequencies - result: sometimes you can't even recognise the music! :-(. I've been told (begged, actually) by one other resident DJs that the only way this will change is if people from the dance floor (that's you and I!) go up and give the recalcitrant a slap across the face/knuckles/backside (your choice). Frankly I can't understand management letting it pass, but then if you take what's written in this wall at face value, they may not know good sound quality if it came up and said 'boo!'. Sadly, I'm unlikely to be one who will be suggesting he turn down the bass, as I'll be taking up residence in Melbourne soon...
Amf... - Mon Jan 24 21:06:19 2000
Did you hear that Paul? ; )
Mon Jan 24 22:51:24 2000

keeping it surreal - Tue Jan 25 15:08:54 2000
The sound ar Arq has improved dramatically over the last few weeks. There were problems, I am told, with some of the processing and the need for everything to "settle in". Different DJs have different hearing and choices of the sound they wish to present to the punters. This is where the discrepancies come into why the quality varies so much. Certain DJs are brilliant at actually walking around the room during their sets and listening. You can't tell though, some nights it's great, some, well, less than pleasant. But it is getting better!
Tue Jan 25 17:43:33 2000
A question re the sound at ARQ... Why is it that the system at "home" didnt need to settle....it just pumped and still does. I know a bit about sound and I know that the when we are told that it needs to "settle in" they are having problems.
Tue Jan 25 19:08:53 2000

I rang the office yesterday wanting to know who played knowing that they had been selected over a week ago,yet all i got in responce was "no comment at this time".
I think I smell something rotten in the air !!
Rotting Meat Stinks - Wed Jan 26 20:20:13 2000
Oh piffle. Maybe not all of them have said 'yes' to the spot they've been offered. Not everything surrounding MG is one big conspiracy ya know.

or perhaps they're waiting for the tickets to sell out (any day now) before they announce the DJs. if tickets are still available when they announce who I think they'll annouce, every rabbit in sydney will want to buy a ticket because the "secret DJ" is only doing one show & that's MG.

what is going on - me and my mates were in a Oxford street cafe last saturday when these hot guys advertising I C E wandered past. me and my mates are normal looking and could not get their attention. They just kept giggling and handing out flyers to hot guys with their girlfriends. Is I C E gay or straight.
Average Poof - Thu Jan 27 21:03:17 2000
Why must MG reveal the DJs "now"? Is there anything on your membership or ticket which states: Mardi Gras agrees to reveal who the DJs for the party are by no later than 27/1/00? I mean, really, will it make any difference other than providing something to whine about?
Thu Jan 27 21:07:29 2000
Average Poof - thanks for the compliment (being hot). I think the clothes madeth the men! I am sorry if we missed you, the street was very busy and no, we did not "see through" average-looking people! As you know there are other places for beautiful guys and their girlfriends, Ice is definitely not for that. If you need any information please Email or call us. And we'll be out again Friday night to cause as much of a stir as we can. For those who missed it, lots of guys decked out in tasteful Mephisto leather carrying Ice flags walked up and down Oxford Street and through the venues (with permission of management!). Ice is of course very strictly gay and will remain so. Nomral looking fun party boys are especially welcome. Sorry again, nothing meant by it! Pretention is not what we're about.
One of the "Hot" guys (not the promoters)! - Thu Jan 27 21:38:20 2000
Well whhhooopppeee ding-dong! I just read that Ice are going to have a an 'express lane' to gain entrance to their party!! What a wank wank wank! Maybe they should reconsider and have an express check-out lane!! This must be the new trend at kiddies parties. What a laugh!
melt - Fri Jan 28 9:10:44 2000
I read the "Express Lane" as being a tongue in cheek joke. From what I saw at previous parties there ain't no one leavin'! Party of the century so far, can't wait!
Fri Jan 28 11:10:53 2000
I'm with Melt. If the crowd is as gorgeous as the last two parties, it would be great to have an "express check out" lane to check everyone out! See you all tomorrow night!
Fri Jan 28 11:46:45 2000
Was anyone as lucky as I was last night to catch the Chem Bros show @ Hordern??? It put any and all dance/techno parties in Sydney to shame. Now that was a show, a party and musical bliss all rolled into one. If only Sydney party promoters could get a clue. And yes, I know...it was a live act which is very different from a DJ (the difference was obvious)...but the atmoshphere was just electric, and so deserved. To all the boys and girls who bitch and moan about dance parties...get a life, you missed the best 'dance experience' Sydney has ever been privy to.

I've done the arq thing religiously since october, even waited in a queue for an hour once, sent e-mails to congratulate(hey credit where credit is due)and still....no replies at all.
It' s been a while since i graced that mezzanine and rocked my little butt off downstairs. there used to be a vibe, yet on sun night it all seemed a little pale? maybe im being jaded? gas is fun. gotta give it to the boys for their music. NO FEAR.
Sure at arq, sometimes euro trance IS the whole e journey thing. Sun night the music was very lacklustre. lights were a bit boring. crowd.......well. but then maybe it' s me. New tunes, new vibe, did dendy. bendy and scissor paper rock. mixed and sometimes really quite mad. this weekend a live p.a from callix.

To Guadian Angel - as I was have not been to ARQ for a few Sundays - gotta hate working Mondays - I am not an expert on Sundays - however a friend of mine was there and I did here him saying the same thing - something missing - he put it down to the fact that the regular DJ or lighting person was not on last week? I will ask him tomrrow to clarify. He too said it was a bit bland but as pointed out every club can have a night like that from time to time - as long as they are not everynight.
j - Fri Jan 28 23:21:50 2000
I was also at Arq last Sunday night for 30 minutes. We had planned to be there all night..?? Get your shit together ARQ!

To ‘One of the "Hot" guys (not the promoters)’ - thanks for the reply and I am glad that I was mistaken by your actions the other night. My friends have just got home from I C E last night and said it was a great night and friendly crowd. Unfortunately I could go to this one but will be their next time.

Could it be? Our Commercial Rd Trolley will have competition by year's end? What's that, I hear? The Return Of The Living Dead is opening up across the road? I haven't seen that Face for a while. Oh my goodness, there's 3 of them.
Roll up your sleaves, Trolley pushes. The ole' fave gin joint is relaunching on the other side, minus your wanky music and Chasers recovery crowd, the roses and those lovely new couches.
But shh! I didn't say Anything! :P

one question-arq sun night. was it me or is something missing yet again. downstairs very very DCM-ish? and rumple(fri 28th)I live and breathe music too, being in the industry and to J. also on fri 28th you said it may have been just one of those nights but still something was missing. music was funky(down of course) and the lighting sweeps (upstairs)most impressive. love that indigo!. So J. maybe the lighting dude was back from a sabatical. all in all i just wanna get loaded and have a good time when out. not here to cause trouble or dis anyones opinion, hell im full of them.
anyone who hasn' t checked out gas though should, but Im sure you party poppin'people have.

Can't wait for the next Frisky party. JoJo and team always throw the best parties and other promoters around town could do a lot to learn from them as to how to run a decent party. Wondering who the special guests are. Anyone heard yet?? I heard Victor Calderone for middle set in RHI for MG.

JGT - formerly J, but there ain't enough room in this town for 3 of us (no I'm not schizophrenic) - Thu Feb 3 15:02:00 2000
although his style will be quite far, aparently, from what he played at Ice
Thu Feb 3 15:10:57 2000
The middle set in the RHI has rarely been as 'girly' or lightweight as the opening and closing sets. I wouldn't bet that Wayne G will be playing too soft
Thu Feb 3 15:19:25 2000
but I doubt (as do my connections) he will be playing as he did @ Ice in December
Thu Feb 3 16:37:52 2000
You may be right. What's this new single he has out, 'Lay All Your Love On Me'? The Abba song?
EC - Thu Feb 3 17:25:11 2000
The ABBA track only uses the melody of the original. No vocals. Quite nice, not girlie, bit poppy. Surprisingly good.
Thu Feb 3 18:46:00 2000
Still, one is reminded that the other WG opened his first ever Mardi Gras set with L.A.Y.L.O.M. Parallel evolution?
EC - Thu Feb 3 20:14:21 2000
Anyone know about ARQ recoveries yet????
Waiting - Fri Feb 4 8:37:18 2000
I heard Wayne G play an Abba remix of Lay All Your Love On Me on Free FM and it was crap. I listened in stunned disbelief to someone I use to admire and respect as a DJ and producer lowering himself to appealing to the lowest common denominator. Classic sell-out. His Warriors days must seem like another life to him now.
Fri Feb 4 9:44:35 2000
ARQ recoveries??? Most of my Mardi Gras visitors have heard about ARQ and want to check this place out over Mardi Gras. Having compared Branson’s Heaven in London and ARQ Sydney, Heaven has a lot to learn. ARQ is a cut above every other Club in Sydney. I’m not an owner…just a punter who likes to be at places which consistantly has their shit together with DJ's, venue, sound, lights, security, music and men.
Fri Feb 4 9:52:49 2000
I would say that, with Heaven having the likes of John Digweed playing regularly at their club, Arq could definitely learn something from them, not the other way round! But then, Sydney's so called cutting edge is bound to be blunt to world standards.
Fri Feb 4 10:25:41 2000
Sydney does have a cutting edge sound and party experience. Have you never been to a Homo Eclectus party?? I was at both their Sleaze and Mardi Gras alternative parties, a long with their previous events, ie Fried & Filth, and they blow any other Sydney party away...hands down! Always cutting edge shows and performance art, and the music is always top-notch! I hardly consider John Digweed cutting edge...more like the commercial edge.
e-boy - Fri Feb 4 10:31:40 2000
Alas, it seems that if you want to hear Waynge G in Warriors mode, you'll have to go to the Ice recovery.

Fri Feb 4 9:44:35 2000 - go back to square one and stay there until you discover for yourself why it is that someone like Wayne G and any number of other musicians and producers profess enormous respect for Abba. Their influence on current music, particularly trance and techno (and unfortunately hi-nrg) is huge. And let's face it, he wasn't playing Abba at a dance party.

feel the nu-queer fallout - Fri Feb 4 15:30:37 2000
e-boy - I am well aware that certain underground scenes in Sydney are very cutting edge. Perhaps I needed a little more clarity in my post. I was referring to the inference that Arq is a world-class cutting edge clubbing destination, not saying that Sydney's club scene as a whole is "blunt". (in other words, we're on the same side, chookie!"
Fri Feb 4 15:31:46 2000
Fri Feb 4 15:31:46 2000 - thanks for the clarification. Hope to see you at HE...that's where I'll be....yipppeeeee! If only Arq knew how to select their DJs and nights...then it could possibly be placed as a cutting-edge club destination. But pullease, look at their track record....barf-o-rama!
e-boy - Fri Feb 4 17:13:18 2000
and look at all the people who go there and enjoy it and don't give a rat's arse about cutting edge. horses for courses. life is for living, feet are for dancing : )
Fri Feb 4 19:52:24 2000
Forget the inference. ARQ is a cutting eadge club. If you don't think it is then name a Club that you think is and for what reason. The bottom line is that people love going to ARQ. I suspect that its part of the tall poppy syndrome when someone has taken the intitiaive to do something which makes Sydney a better place to enjoy, succeeds, and then needs to be critized for doing it. ARQ is a far cry from the trashy places which disguised themselves as gay Clubs for years and years in Sydney because there was nowhere else decent to go to) short changing the punters who attended. ARQ has set the pace and I suspect has caused much concern amongst its competitors who I hope have been forced to sit up and take notice that their shit establishments have either got to improve out of sight or close their doors.

CUBE - Sun Feb 6 7:23:13 2000
Derwood and Mr Panties....you are a dumb dumbs....cutting edge in terms of ARQ means that that Club has an effective quality or element and is at the position of greatest advancement or importance; the forefront of Clubs. Disco bitch had a great time at ARQ Friday night. Do you have a thing against Muscle Mary's?? There's an old saying. If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen but then again aren’t we lucky that anyone, no matter what there appearance or body shape, can go to any Club in Sydney. I can never understand what the sexuality of anyone has to do with ownership. Pooof..and I'm gone!!!
Endora - Sun Feb 6 16:11:53 2000
maybe i've been doing this all wrong... i go clubbing to dance and be with friends etc, and to have a damn good time... i wasnt aware that i should be taking note of the sexuality of everyone in the place and the owners as well... When are the big renovations happening to the Shift - Arq had a DCM crowd on Saturday again (straight as) and the music like it was last Friday was shit - Latino funk might have a large following but really!!! It is enough to make you stay home.
The guys at ARQ are just out for cash - as they should be they are not there to lose it. Just having a chuckle as I remember a friend telling me that they were there for the launch or closing of free fm and heard an owner and his wife discussing at 11.00pm how they would like to get all of the punters out of the club at 11.30pm on this particular Friday night after they had got in earlier in the night 800 or 900 of them for free as part of the free fm promotion and then charge them to get back in again. Had to laugh - but apparantly they were seriously considering it.

the shift arnt doing the renovations till after MG... and it had better be a huge job as they really have to work to compete nowdays... im hoping they dont stuff it up, but then who am i kidding... ahhh the good old 80's when the shift was 'the place'... For all those self professing sound gurus there is an article in the current "Connections" magazine on the sound and lighting rigs at ARQ. While it is very informative it does not mention that this is predominantly a gay club, whether this was intentionally or accidently omitted I am unsure. (Perhaps being a technical report it was deemed unecissary). The magazine is available in newsagents.

I can't wait to go to the new shift, downstairs you'll be able to go to do a wee and make your own poo sandwiches, play on the 500 poker machines revel in the video hits by such great names as kylie and danni. Upstairs you get a suspended timber floor splinter free and you'll be able to wear thongs cos they are opening up the venue for a braoder market and drinks will be served in plastic plastics that are unbreakable. The music upstairs will be combination of old romantic and hip house overground grunge elastic snapped. The satellite parties that will occur on a monthly basis will be at the seven eleven next door and pass outs will be initiated after each slurpee. Overall when the shift starts its world dominance of formula clubbing like home shifting to ibiza is inly a matter of time.
Anthony Whitaker - Thu Feb 10 0:46:25 2000
On another matter I was reading a letter to the editor in Capital Q last week where a backpacker was complaining that Australians have so much attitude. At first I was a bit suprised but then I though about the attitudes of myself, my friends and others that I have observed when out (not to "tourists" but in general). Looking back on the last 12 to 18 months I have noticed that everyone has become so much more serious. In general (and this is a generalisation) we have lost the easy going nature that used to be the atmosphere. I personally thing that the current trends in music are to blame, particularily "trance". Now I personally love "trance" and as a tripper really get into it but think that it is very unsocial music as everyone seems to take there own little trip along with the music and become too serious. In the old days when "girly" or "cheasy" music were common there seemed to be a lot more fun to be had. I am not suggesting that music should not progress but has the current trend made us all too selfish? I have just got back from the US and the UK and (in particlar the UK) trance seems to have lost its edge and become mainstreem even to the point of being considered "chease" eg ATB "9PM till I come". I went to Gatecrasher the so called home of trance for New Year but found that there wasn't that much new progrssive music and that most of the new music was heading back towards the hard house style. What do you think? Have we got too serious? Have we lost the plot? Where do you think music is going to go?
BND - Thu Feb 10 0:58:13 2000
I disagree strongly that trance is anti-social and lends itself to attitude at parties. Parties like Ffierce are the friendliest, most attitude free parties I have ever been to. I made more friends at Ffierce than I have at any other event in Sydney. Also, be aware that there are a number of different styles of trance, ranging from the softer "Gatecrasher" sound to bangin hard stuff played by DJs like Mark Murphy and Thao. There's also psychadelic trance, another quite different trance sound again, played by DJs like Visceral. Trance has been around since the early 90's, maybe even going as far back as New Order's early 80's hit "Blue Monday". While I'm not a big fan of the more popular club trance sound, I much prefer it to vocal high energy that it seems to have killed off. No doubt the Gatecrasher style, much of which is produced by just a handful of German producers, will lose its popularity, but the trance genre itself is so diverse, that I think that it will be around for a long long time.

Could the increased popularity of special K, a very insular drug, share some responsibility for the less-friendly atmosphere lately?
Sad Cereal - Thu Feb 10 9:36:00 2000
personaly, these days I find that the punters in clubs are much uglier than they used to be. have you been to Gilligans lately ? ewww. that place used to be full of spunks but now it's full of ugly guys and their faghags. that's the reason why nobody is friendly now - too many ugly queens ! has Newtown moved to Darlinghurst ?

What is up Mr Panties and "anon's" arse are you totally insular? The Frisky revolution/party phenomenom is responsible, along with the incredible Ice parties for offering a world standard in event partying - one must acknowledge Ffeirce also they try albeit try to please also. But clones and drones and groovers and party pro's - yeah right - like the one and only Mr Panties seem to have this thing about not being seen as cheesey. Mr P take a good long hard look a your own work. Yes that will make you realise you ain't so perfect, young vilifier. Anyway, the next frisky party and Arq recoveries after MG is where the most fun to be had will be - well to those who aren't too Kool to let go and dump the altitude attitude. and EC is full of it too checked the mirror on the floor lately or is the too much powder on it and I'm not talking Baby powder sweetheart kick it babe do us all a favour no more tears please.

Further to the recent discussion about straight / gay clubs their patrons and owners, I think that DCM should be forced to take down the rainbow neon and rainbow flags. Fair enough that DCM have changed the market they are pursuing thats their right but if you diddn't know better (or were a visitor from out of town) you could be mistaken for thinking that it a prime Oxford St gay venue.

BND - I also read the article in connections.I think that seeing that the magazine is a technical mag that reports on new technologies, venues, suppliers and has general information for us tech people that the clientelle is not really that important. I know when I read I just want to know if other states have lighting rigs like ours and if they do who is operating them.
