Oh My God !
Sun Jul 30 14:34:43 2000
I need to repost this cause i put it on the previous board just an hour or so ago and i would appreciate discussion on this topic>>>>>>>>>ProARQ - Sat Jul 29 19:52:36 2000 .You must Kidding ! I cant agree with you.I am just about a weekly patron at Arq and i love it there however the 1st birthday has no interest for me whatsoever, and I simply dont know what I am going to do on that night now that my familiar surroundings of a Saturday night at Arq on August 12 are being tampered with. ARQ is charging $33 for you to go there on a normal saturday night to hear 5 dj's on each level that will in all likelihood be batteling against each other in an effort to try to out-do each other by playing hit after hit after hit (thus causing the repeating tracks dilema). On top of that you say there are 2 international live performers.Well sweety, you havent read capital Q this week have you ? What do you get for your 100% price hike at arq on this night ? You get Christine Anu live.Oh pleeeease, spare me.You get Portia Turbo hosting the night (another interruption to the music).Debut performance by quote "sensational new dance diva KM" (who???).You also get debut dance performance by quote "hot new group Jube Star" (Who???).You get a show by Nova. What international acts ???? What value am I going to get for $33 there ? Those debut acts should be paying us for the privlidge of performing (well not quite, but you know what i mean). It seems the night is going to be one big stop start affair. How totally and utterly annoying. If you think $33 is good value for a night like that well go right ahead,be my guest, throw your money away.Me,I'll wait for Free Fm's party on august 20 thank you very much.
A very disapponted Arq Boy - Sun Jul 30 14:44:17 2000
Thank God the Shift is almost ready to renovate - at least it has been gay for over 20 years now.

fArq, shaft, or oxford pokies - there's a bigger world out there kids. Dont get lost up your own Darlinghurst all your life!!!!1 - Sun Jul 30 17:25:58 2000
Just out of interest, has anyone else been to the new Shift Lounge Bar and what do they think?
Sun Jul 30 21:20:59 2000
i think long live the shift and i also think this is the beginning of the end for arq!!!
Sun Jul 30 21:34:30 2000
I went to the launch of the Lounge Bar thingo at the Shift. I thought it was Ok, even though my expectations were really low. the almost non existant lighting was very flattering for the ugly crowd in there (some things dont change) left after 15 minutes cause the chick behind the bar didnt know how to make a Cosmopolitan. so I went to the Oxford & was stunned. really bloody stunned. hmmm, early night for me.
Mr Panties - Sun Jul 30 22:16:38 2000
Mr Panties,Do they have poker machines in the alternate universe's oxford hotel as well or are they banned in the delta quadrant ??

Can we have a Star Trek board for those who care and leave it out of this one? The time to load now is great and we can save 30% on download time without that crap. I am a huge fan but I don't want to read it here.
Mara Devlin - Mon Jul 31 11:53:35 2000

Corruption around the corner... - Wed Aug 2 10:17:38 2000
Rumour is the entire Sydney gay scene will soon be replaced with pokie machines and bad, very bad str8 venues, all of which perpetrate to be either gay owned or gay friendly. But then again, that can't be a rumour...it's already happened!

Mr Panties- being one of the only two girls who worked at the Shift Lounge bar over the weekend I do vaguely remember an order of a Cosmopolitan however the gentlemen who ordered it didn't flee with dissatisfaction from waiting but paid his money and scurried into a dark corner ? Could there be two of you perhaps?

The underground is truly alive and thriving! Thanks again to Octopussy for their contributions to the true underground scene...another A+ list party to look forward to! And I thought techno killed this culture...but in fact, techno has weeded out the underground wanna-be's leaving the true perverts to carry on. Aug. 26 here I cum!

Possibly US Jocks; Danny T, Mike Duretto, Michael Mangiaforte, DJ Gianni, DJ Dan, DJ Sneak, TP2k, James Anderson, Hex Hector, Victor C, Junior Vasquez, Club 69, DJ Manny Lehman, DJs Neil Lewis, Phil B, the Legend Warren Gluck
Sat Aug 5 13:51:31 2000
The legend? Oh don't make me larf!
Sat Aug 5 17:58:01 2000
if you went to malcolm stewart's party last year at arq, where warren was the headlining dj. you would understand the "legend" tag. he not only is a talented dj, but he is also a very skilled remixer... apart from that i don't like him that much
Sat Aug 5 20:03:59 2000
Legendary party killer - including poor Malcolm's.
Sat Aug 5 20:55:43 2000
what is that list of American DJs for ?
Mon Aug 7 0:20:33 2000
Malcolms party was dead on arrival. The soundtrack was immaterial.Warren Gluck is a proficient practitioner of a fairly pedestrian musical style - " Anthems 'n Drag R Us" , seemlessly segued for your lip-synch convenience....Ever more popular among the brain-challenged denizons of this locale...
~!@#$%^ - Mon Aug 7 1:10:54 2000
Sat Aug 5 17:58:01 2000 Do your home work nest time, please....
In the 70's Warren was the Saint NYNY, Warren helped shape what US Gays came to expect from a Discotech (that’s what they where called then), But then times changed. However, Warren has kept a unique style, which has enabled him to be working 25 years later. Come on if you asked Victor Calderone what he thinks of Warren, or Junior both would praise this mans ledgend status. I suppose to put it into regional terms Warrens Fame over time is like the legendary status of our own Lexie Bradfield, Steven Alkins, Ron Oram, people who where there in the beginning. Victors partys at the Hordern, Sweatbox, RAT, etc ... This is just my opinion. BTW I really really disliked what he played at the 1st two gigs in Sydney @ RHI and Frisky.
Mon Aug 7 7:00:36 2000
Frisky was up to its usual excellence. I was going to have an early night but ended up dancing right to the very end. The sound was superb, the subs were clean and fat and the system well engineered. The lights were also fantastic and kept me mesmorised for most of the night. One question though, where do you get the Frisky T shirts from? Is JoJo now into merchandising?
Mon Aug 7 10:34:15 2000
I agree! Frisy was sensational as usual. The music was great. The lights were amazing. The crowd were excellent. When's the next one??
Mon Aug 7 11:45:39 2000
It is great to have the Shift upstairs open again, but am I the only one that suspects the latest make-over was done by either Changing Rooms or Backyard Blitz? The upholstery in particular looks very ...uhm....rushed.Sort of staple gun & contact paper blue & grey leatherette-banquettes & funereal floral work. Gorgeous staff, great music but the decor is actually worse.Sorry to be so negative, but it really is surprisingly ugly...
~!@#$%^ - Mon Aug 7 20:23:51 2000
Frisky was terrific. A great night. This party sets the standard for music, lighting, crowd and atmosphere. JoJo was excellent, Alex OK (but still below his best, IMHO), and then Luke Leal nearly lifted the roof off. Brilliant!

Reality check - Free is one of the three leaders in securing the full time licence. The investigation is to quash any rumours about ownership by Central Station etc etc once and for all, and was invited by Free. Then there will be no whinging when it gets the licence over the other one.
Tue Aug 8 11:52:32 2000
video killed the radio star, so who cares ?
Mrs Crabtree - Tue Aug 8 12:56:50 2000
Quoted from SMH: The Australian Broadcasting Authority has launched a special investigation into whether the youth music station Wild FM and the gay and lesbian station Free FM are suitable to hold community radio licences. [unquote] Personally I don't think either station should get a licence as they sound too much like the commercial crap on all the other frequencies. How about something new? Some half decent music would be a good start.
I'm not from outfm either, before you jump to conclusions - Tue Aug 8 20:07:23 2000
At Least this new player Dance FM offers 30% Australian Produced Playlist on high rotation! Wild suxs Free FM, does this make them both Gay Stations? Rumor mill is that Dex FM, Free FM and Wild are merging into one. Bet they give a car away to one of the employees.

What was the topic. - Tue Aug 8 22:20:13 2000
Exactly. What the paper issed was that it was initiated by the ABA for Wild and requested of the ABA by Free.
Tue Aug 8 22:20:58 2000
To :I'm not from Out Fm either" complaining about the music on all the stations is pointless. If the Gay and Lesbian community gets this licence it will be one of the great voices and mediums for us to create change in the wider community. If you don't like the music, become a member, vote in their surveys and change it - what seems to have been missed is that getting a licence for our community could be one of the most significant things to happen for a long long time. I know we are not supposed to be talking about this but getting a station for our community is a gay and lesbian rights issue - deal with the music they play later....

Wed Aug 9 12:08:07 2000
My God, that's debatable! It had its ups, it had its downs, but it was an above average Frisky. JoJo and Luke were great! Sound was great! But where were all the regulars? As one person put it that had been away o/s for a few months, "What's with all the office girls? I don't know anyone here anymore, except for you!"

Had a few reservations about going back to the shift, but was pleasantly surprised. Great DJs {Alex Taylor annnnd Jamie Sciban} good friends, good feel, good head in the toilets.

I hereby take my anti-psychotic pills and retire from the radio debate for the evening. Now, who is going to ARQ on Sat night?
Mr A Bailey - Wed Aug 9 21:45:57 2000
Who is going to GAS on Sunday 20/8 for "One Night In Heaven" (remember I'm talking about the event and NOt who is running this event OK ?).I like the DJ line up heaps.Sean Manley to warm up,Blomfield to play his unique mainstream stuff and Lealy to wind us up at the end.Great selection, and cheap at only $20 too.I've always wanted to see what the hype about GAS was all about. This function gives me that opportunity.Cant Wait !!

Frisky was amazing as usual. As soon as I walk into the Metro for a Frisky I get goose bumps and tears in my eyes in anticipation of the night ahead and Saturday night didn't let me down. Thanks Jo Jo, Alex and Luke !!! And thank you to the lighting team, you are awesome !!!

A>D - Thu Aug 10 12:34:51 2000
and furthermore, whats the point of going to a club just for the hell of it.Gas has had Nothing to offer me until now. This Free Fm function does have something to offer me and as such i am now interested in seeing what gas is all about. What would happen if a gigantic straight club in Blacktown opened up next week, would you go just to have a look so you can be up to date on "sydneys club life" ? I dont think so !!!!

Hey, Mark Murphy's playing in the Dome, guess they read this board after all!
pph - Thu Aug 10 20:09:55 2000
You bet they read this board. Don't underestimate its influence.
TW :) - Thu Aug 10 20:55:46 2000
Moreover, they ask what is fresh and hot in the scene at the moment - what everyone is raving about on the streets...what everyone wants.
Thu Aug 10 21:25:44 2000
Hmmmm...yep, I think they would read this. say after a DJ selection has been announced, just to see what the bitchiest element of the community is saying. Those who post on Pinkboard are a very small minority and definitely do not reflect an accurate sample of the majority. Otherwise there would be no internationals at all - the majority of postings on that topic would dictate no internationals. So that just leaves community research and advice from trusted sources.
Thu Aug 10 21:35:38 2000
And confidence in ones own ability to make a decision.I for one think that confidence, based on this lineup,is well founded....

a sad state of affairs - Fri Aug 11 21:26:31 2000
DIVA (Drag Industry Variety Awards) has annouunced the date and venue for this years 10th Anniversary Awards. Monday October 16, at the Hordern Pavilion. DIVA has been pushed back by over 2 months due to the impossibilty of booking venues in Sydney this year. Ticketing and other details will be out next week.
DIVA Committee - Sat Aug 12 8:39:02 2000
Oh Diva awards *again* Oh joy oh joy !!! Another back slapping affair where all the industry people in sydney will yet again for the 6th time vote Alex Taylor as DJ of the year because they are so blind and so smashed not to realise that there ARE other DJ's in this city ! Poor Alex, who year after year gets up there and accepts the award and is embarrassed by it as well. For the last 2 years he has pleaded with the people who vote to cast their votes for somebody else next year, and its all in vain. And dont start on me,cause i am not a DJ,just an acquaintance of Alex's who knows how he feels about this situation.
Sat Aug 12 12:32:04 2000
well, it is a Dot Dingle show & we all know how cutting edge she is
Sat Aug 12 13:11:44 2000
i'd laugh at the last posting if it wasnt so true

Ian Jopson,David Wilkins & Penny Clifford among others, produce the Divas, and I've always found them to be as good or better than any other award show, anywhere. The nature of the beast is congragulatory.Thats why they give out awards. It is a shame that Alex has won so often, not because he doesn't deserve to but because it is unrepresentative of the wider market and the many established & emerging talents. I've always thought with so many awards going to shows of different sizes, and to drag queens in different categories(Bitch, Belle,Performer,New Face etc) that a few more categories for djs could work well-like cocktail, club, and big party, or along musical style lines- Handbag,Hard, & Deep ...anyway, I think the divas are good value and like most of us theres always room for improvement!
~!@#$%^ - Sat Aug 12 14:03:09 2000
vote luke leal, greg boladian and jake kilby for most popular dj. it is a community voted award, so if alex keeps winning, you've no one to blame but yourselves. (if you bother to vote, that is)
Sat Aug 12 18:06:30 2000
Alex should just make himself inelligible for the award if he is so embarrassed by it.Just say to Diva,Sorry I will refuse the award if given to me.Simple.That solves that problem !
Sat Aug 12 18:51:37 2000
So here we are, another Saturday night with nowhere to go unless you like ARQ (and bought a ticket). Please promoters, save us!
TW - Sat Aug 12 22:51:24 2000
oh TW,surely you could lower your standards and slum it somewhere like the shift or the flinders for a night ????
Maybe see you even at gas next sunday for one night in heaven ?
A>D - Sat Aug 12 23:21:48 2000
Gonzalo is Hung like King Kong!
loose - Sun Aug 13 5:19:23 2000
does anyone know if there are photos on the web from the last Frisky??
Sun Aug 13 11:59:28 2000
Gonzalo is a very sexy boy with a very bad taste in men! Eeeeww!
Sun Aug 13 17:52:55 2000
Please explain. I agree that Gonzalo looks hot.
TW - Sun Aug 13 18:49:57 2000
TW, I was starting to elaborate and saw what I wrote and thought better of it! I don't want to embarass the poor boy! He is such a sweety! Let's just say if you are under 6'2 and under 110kg you have no hope.
Mara - Sun Aug 13 19:19:37 2000
DJ of the year - surely the one and only Kate Monroe.
enyap giarc - Sun Aug 13 21:34:43 2000
craig payne?
Sun Aug 13 22:01:04 2000
Craig Payne isn't over 6'2!
Sun Aug 13 22:27:36 2000
you didnt go to House Solution, did ya ? I got there really late in the night, tired as hell, but I saw the most beautiful boys & a great venue. the sound & lighting were pretty lame, the french djs couldnt mix a betty crocker cake, but all was forgiven when I saw Samuel L Jackson slip over on the slippery floor.
Le Panteez - Mon Aug 14 1:44:32 2000
Just come from arq, downstairs,DJ Gary T,filthy boys, heavy hump beat, sweaty, slow & dirty, like a pagan sacrament, hip-grinding,drunk,and slutty. This is an evil, evil town.I fear for my sanity,my safety, my honour...
Chopper - Mon Aug 14 5:04:07 2000
So all you people that went to ARQ's birthday on Sat night...... what was it like???
Mon Aug 14 10:35:23 2000
It was good I wanna know what time it finished though
The Doctor - Mon Aug 14 11:06:01 2000
everywhere was going off on saturday night. Arq was awesome, The Shift lounge was really funky, stonewall cherry club was overflowing and there was a line up at the flinders! Good to see a vibe is happening in Sydney again.
all danced out. - Mon Aug 14 12:03:29 2000
gossip.... portia turbo and penny tration to host this years diva awards. i guess we're in for an amusing evening.
Mon Aug 14 12:06:20 2000
Arq Saturday Night - Great night except for the "live" shows, especially Christine Anu's spot. What a bloody insult to an Australian Star to treat her with such appalling technical support. If you can't support an artist with decent sound operation, don't bother booking them!
Mon Aug 14 12:12:09 2000
re: "what's happening on Aug 26?" query further up the board, Octopussy is holding another No Holes Barred party at a secret warehouse location - again featuring Lanny K and Miss Yetti and shows by people like Gltita Supernova & Sex Intents, but getting tickets ain't easy! You have to be on the mailing list and have to be a pretty serious perve - as they do tend to push the boundaries a bit far for most people (hence the use of an unlicenced venue. If this is actually appealing to you then call Craig on 0416 392 361 and he'll sort out getting you on the list.
PS Congrats to alll the gals involved in Girlesque for the start of something good!
PPS More Congrats to Sveta and Mark Murphy for getting on the Sleaze bill ... it seems Sleaze goes harder as Inquisition gets softer ... strange.
Octopussy - Mon Aug 14 14:31:25 2000
The first No Holes party exceeded even my expectations! My brain melts at the thought of this next installment...tickets in hand mind you. The dirtiest, sleaziest and sickest parties of the year!! Thank you Craig and Anne!! C ya there!
Mon Aug 14 14:48:49 2000
is this a girlzz only party ?
Mon Aug 14 21:18:32 2000
Diva again...Penny and Portia hosting should be fun. As for rising star...Vanity Faire
Mon Aug 14 21:23:54 2000
i thought pennytration was banned from diva ?
Mon Aug 14 22:22:19 2000
No Holes Barred includes all genders...and is *not* for the faint-hearted. It's serious fetish meets serious leather meets serious rubber meets serious underground.
Tue Aug 15 8:25:31 2000
Does 'No Holes Barred' include scat/blood sports? I'm not faint- hearted, but enema performances & flesh-sewing circles are definitely more information than I'm needing from a night out...
Bill - Tue Aug 15 15:25:45 2000
I know, one year told that she would never win a diva in this town, the next year, hosting the damn awards! I think it'a camp and controversial. loving it. I wonder if she will be able to behave? Oooh, I hope not.
go tration you little devil! - Tue Aug 15 15:26:24 2000
from gossip i've heard penny has to behave herself. this should prove interesting......
Tue Aug 15 15:38:25 2000

See Panther, Free FM are spamming the walls.
TW - Tue Aug 15 19:45:47 2000
Completely relevant on this board. An event to support ***your*** community TW!
Tue Aug 15 20:34:51 2000
TW is obviously not a free fm fan and obviuosly not interested in events to support "his" community.Shame,Shame,Shame !!! I suppose he wont be at Free Fm's oral submission to the ABA tomorrow morning at 9.30 in the Town Hall.I will, and I'll be cheering them on all the way.As for the party on Sunday night at Gas,well that's gonna be a night to remember with (or preferably without) TW's attendence.
In support of the ABA giving a licence to **Either** gay submission...as long as at least one is successful - Tue Aug 15 20:53:42 2000
give it a rest craig
Tue Aug 15 23:41:38 2000
I dont think craig would be in support of **either** station getting the nod.
Tue Aug 15 23:46:21 2000
Nobody has answered my inquiry about the parameters of "No Holes Barred" - re: scat & blood.I actually would like to go but i do have limits...
Bill - Wed Aug 16 1:48:02 2000
Dear Bill, Don't go.Your limits may be challenged...
Wed Aug 16 2:26:55 2000
Didn't 2-Unlimited have a song that went "There's No Limit" ??
Wed Aug 16 14:40:51 2000
I thought messages about the Free FM situation would lead to this wall being closed down. But, oh yeah, if that happened, it would be Pinkboard imposing 'one of the harshest Internet censorship regimes in the world'. Seriously, though, the speed with which Panther removes anything remotely critical of Free or Wild should give you an idea of the sort of money these 'community radio stations' are paying their lawyers.
Wed Aug 16 15:29:23 2000
Given the events of this morning, I don't think Craig would have had Pinkboard on his mind last night! He would have been a very busy boy.
A Bailey - Wed Aug 16 16:21:40 2000
Is there a melbourne party called frisky? If so, when and where?
thanks - Wed Aug 16 19:13:57 2000
Would love to know what did happen at Free's hearing, anyone have an off-board link with further info?
Wed Aug 16 19:21:28 2000
Read the SSO this week, hopefully they made the print deadlie. It will be well covered this week or next. Apparently it went very well.
Wed Aug 16 19:24:18 2000
I would rather go to my nearest RSL on Saturday night than attend One Night in Heaven. There may not be much happening on Saturday nights at the moment but I am not that desperate.
TW - Wed Aug 16 22:16:46 2000
By the way, I give my community plenty of support. However, Free FM does not represent "my" community (sorry Panther, I know I shouldn't be entering into this but I felt the need to respond).
TW - Wed Aug 16 22:22:50 2000
is it true that Aerobics Oz Style are doing the 2am show at One Night In Heaven ?
Mr Panties - Thu Aug 17 9:12:14 2000
This whole radio station tug of war is boring. Let's talk Divas. Or favorite nightclubs. Or dirty evil gossip??
Thu Aug 17 11:08:15 2000
Dirty evil gossip????????????? mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm yes please
Fritz - Thu Aug 17 12:52:00 2000
TW - One night in Heaven is on Sunday night this weekend not Saturday as you have stated. It just goes to show you how ill-informed you are and how much lack of attention you paid to the advertisement.I am also concerned about what "Your" community is all about. You clearly cant be a member of the G&L community if you are rejecting this event on Sunday night as not being G&L orientated which of course it is.SO,what is "your" community all about ? Please explain ? I Hope you enjoy your night out at your local RSL and waste all your money on bingo games or the pokies.I on the other hand will have fun partying with my G&L community at the funky surrounds of Gas nightclub on Sunday night ! Heaven it surely will be !
Ascension - Thu Aug 17 13:00:44 2000
Oh I'm sorry, but the above posting is nothing short of pathetic, and really goes to show the narrow mindness of your station. The G&L community is diverse and broad and fortunately we don't all fit into the little pigon holes in your head.
Thu Aug 17 14:10:41 2000
Free FM does *not* represent the G&L community. It only represents a very small portion of the G&L community...that portion which perpetrates the gay stereotype. With any luck, they won't get their licence.
cybil - Thu Aug 17 14:29:38 2000
This is the opinion of the poster.
The above two posters have got it all wrong. My posting was about "One Night In Heaven" "The event".It has nothing to do with the Free FM radio station debate.Just because "the event" is run by Free FM doesnt mean you can bundle them into the one category. They are seperate identities. This "event" will be attendended by people from the G&L community. That was my point.Dont **ever** generalise by saying that it doesnt represent you because it does.If you choose not to attend an event put on for you and the G&L community then that is your decision and your decision alone.
Ascension - Thu Aug 17 14:44:17 2000
cybil - Thu Aug 17 14:29:38 2000.What research do you base your assumption on. Free fm uses its musical style to communicate with a large percentage of the G&L Community. The Star Observer poll proved that it was popular- are you saying that the Star Observer represents only a small potion of the G&L community?
I think some people are basing their whole opinion on a musical style not what issues are dealt with and at what level. Sure Free fm doesn't have the Country and Western hour for those people that love that type of music - even if it did, would all the people in our community who love country and Western music be able to listen to it- would they plan their lives around the country and western hour..I do not think so! Our community needs a radio station that will communicate services and information to the majority of us - At the moment until research show us otherwise it seems we all have dance music- whatever form- in common. It is played at all our celebrations and even if people dont necessarily like it they endure it so that they can celebrate together. Maybe we should treat Free fm the same.
Thu Aug 17 15:08:07 2000
Hmmm...just because the star deems Free FM to be popular, I have to agree??? I don't think I even have to point out how inane the above comment is! I am so tired of having to be slotted into someone elses idea of what it means to be gay. So just because I am gay...sorry, but I like to use the word queer, I am supposed to accept and support a radio station that says it is gay? Puulleease...let me think for myself and allow me to make my own decision, and without being accused of not supporting a 'gay' cause.
cybil - Thu Aug 17 15:25:59 2000
cybil:so which of your 117 personalities are we talking to today ? Freeekshow !!!
Thu Aug 17 15:33:05 2000
Oh c'mon...I only have 69 personalities! Gimme a break.
cybil - Thu Aug 17 15:40:06 2000
No cybil it shows that Free fm is listened to by a majority. We as a community are diverse and incrediably different so it is very hard to communicate with our community as a whole. Free fm is has one way that looks at the moment to work. Out Fm have one way but it has not proven that it communicates with the majority of our community. Maybe you should give us your opinion on how to program a radio station to fit the ABA critera and communicate effectively with our community.Actually why dont you just get involve instead of letting other people do all the hard work and then complain about it!
Thu Aug 17 15:52:28 2000
cybil looks like she is on (i stop and think) oh no,i better not write that :P
Thu Aug 17 15:58:52 2000
Sweetie...I am involved, and yes, with another radio station and also within the G&L community, and I am very happy with the successes I have had. Why can you not accept that some people, possibly many people, may disagree with both your view and the views of Free FM. Why can you not let me have my own opinion? See what I mean...you and your cronies are always trying to tell people how they should be gay, and do not allow them to think for themselves.
martha (aka cybil) - Thu Aug 17 15:59:12 2000
Community Radio is a medium about communicating with the majority of a community. No medium is able to effectively communicte with everyone. Cybil I think you have to stop being so selfish, if you are such an individual and apposed to the majority then why would you expect this radio license to totally represent you. Get involved in the station and voice your concerns instead of letting people do all the hard work then complaining about the fact that they did'nt know you existed!
Thu Aug 17 16:06:10 2000
My comments were not a complaint...simply an opinion.
jardin (aka cybil) - Thu Aug 17 16:16:29 2000
At least Free fm puts out a positive message. i don't understand cybil..what makes her so different that she is not interested in GLBT news, information and dicussion. So you don't like dance music? Out Fm play dance more and more I wonder why? maybe becuase it is popular??? Stop trying to divide our community, free fm is not excluding you as a person, your excluding free fm because of its music style.
Thu Aug 17 16:17:13 2000
martha (aka cybil) - Thu Aug 17 15:59:12 2000 Research into our communities is the only answer and out fm has none, so there is no evidence that the is a majority of people that disagree with me.
Thu Aug 17 16:20:36 2000
WEll Well WEll.Thanks guys. The last half a dozen or so posters have just probably contributed towards the closure of this wall. Thanks for ruining it for us !!!!!
ANgRY !! - Thu Aug 17 16:31:31 2000
well, what dance parties are on this weekend ? let's redeem things . . .
Thu Aug 17 16:36:37 2000
One Night in Heaven. Yes it is a fundraising event for a certain radio station however I am told by a reliable source that all funds from this fundraisier go directly to the station and if this station happens not to get a license, all their savings shall be invested in the station that gets it - or in the event their is no license for our community it will be given to various charities within our community.
Thu Aug 17 16:46:43 2000
umm, I was *actually* attempting to change the topic. What other dance parties are on in the next couple of weeks ?
Thu Aug 17 16:50:20 2000
Not Aerobics Oz Style Mr Panties, the Stollie Glow Stick Dancers ...
Thu Aug 17 18:32:08 2000
Hmm, One night in Heaven, a fundraiser, for what, exactly? FreeFM doesn't have a licence, or any future broadcast date, so, um, isn't this just a tad premature?
Thu Aug 17 18:48:03 2000
Like I said, let's talk Divas! I'm for Penny Tration as bitch of the year (God knows she deserves it; in a good way), i'm sure Verushka would agree on that. Best show should go to Sunday Scrubbers at Annie's Bar. Rising Star to Vanity Faire. Personality of the year to Portia or Wyness. Where is the after party this year, if not at DCM?
Thu Aug 17 18:58:35 2000
Unfortunately it will take money to continue through the ABA hearings for all the aspirants. The public hearings are not the end of the matters. Anyway, rather than use this board to continue the discussion, please go to www.ssonet.com.au, follow the links through the front page story, and have your say in the forum there. You'll have the opporunity to have your opinion included in the next edition, which will reach far more people than Pinkboard will.
Thu Aug 17 19:03:37 2000
LOL! Actually, you've found me out. I'm really a straight yob masquerading on this board as a gay man. Seriously though, what a narrowminded view of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (Q*U*E*E*R!) life some gay men have. Re the community radio debate, perhaps Panther might allow it to continue so long as peopel don't resort to personal attacks. Are we all grown up enough to do that?
TW - Thu Aug 17 23:58:09 2000
Re: TW. I received a call from a concerned person today, wanting to know the identity of Technowarrior. I was presented with evidence as to the problems this person causes not only on Pinkboard (under various names and moods) but through other channels as well. This prompted me to have a look through his hundreds of postings since Party Wall No 1. Not only has he made regular personal attacks himself on clubs, promoters, DJs and other individuals, but has at times issued such statements as, "I hope they fail miserably". One of these was aimed at the fundraising activities of a community group. Whether he agrees with the premise of such groups or not, I know that many volunteers are involved with some groups for years on end. If the groups are so suspicious, why do they stay with no pay? Some make it a full time occupation. To be continued next post....

Yeah, really rub it in and do it while he's peakin'! He's quite tall, so you'll be able to see him heading for the door from a distance! And easy to point out in a crowd too. You'd better stay seated at your parties TW!

Off With His Head - Fri Aug 18 0:27:46 2000 - I think all you have demonstrated is that you are just as vindictive and malicious as as the person you purport to be opposed to, and what gives you the right to spoil someone else's night? at least TW is either doing it pre or post the event, and not harming anyone on the night. Who's even to say you've got the right person?? this is supposed to be a wall where you can post your own comment and opion on something, free of persecusion. You don't have to agree with him, just as he doesn't agree with you. The answer to the question on everyone lips, is No, I don't know who TW is, and I don't want to know. Isn't that the idea of this wall?
live and let live - Fri Aug 18 15:53:39 2000
Dear Bill (Wed Aug 16). I went to the last No Hole Barred party, and had one of the best nights ever. There was no scat, though there was plenty of other things to challenge those limits. It was a sensational night with a great crowd (140 only), and probably one of the closest things that I've been to in a long while which could truly be called 'different'. This is where the true underground scene is! There were plenty of confronting shows, both organised and impromptu, but there was also plenty of other parts of the room where you could go, if you did not want to look. My advice, if you are prepared to be challenged, is to go. Craig and Anne always have the final say on anything which happens on the night, and they know what makes a great successful night and what would go so far as to destroy it. Hope to see you there.

"The opinions expressed on this wall are not necessarily those of Pinkboard" ...so what does Panther care? He's not liable for anything said here. This is called a "graffiti wall" and yet everyone supports censorship of free speech. If Panther's concerned about it getting off-topic here, why doesn't he set up a separate Community Radio wall ? Does he have some vested interest in one of the stations or something? Answers please.

So anyway, as I was saying, Divas should be fun this year. The Midnight Shift are starting up a new theme for Sunday nights in the cocktail bar that sounds like a blast. Can't wait. I'm informed that Chelsea and her gang are starting up a new production show at Arqueerium on Thursday nights. About time, the shows were getting stale. The new show is a comic take on the Olympics, she tells me. I'm looking forward to the olympics 'cause I think it will bring a great vibe to the streets of Sydney. Anyone got any other "interseting" or "relevant" news or gossip to contribute to the "party" wall?

Fri Aug 18 22:25:44 2000 - 1) As a publisher I am liable for what is published on Pinkboard. I have been threatened with legal action a number of times. 2) There was a wall for the radio debate. It became so disgusting that I felt that even to leave the evidence of how low some people go was an insult to both stations. The people who could not stop slinging mud despite many many warnings spoilt the opportunity for any such debate on Pinkboard.
Fri Aug 18 23:34:29 2000 - Panther has friends who have an involvement with Free FM as well as friends who have an involvement with Out FM and 2RRR FM and 2SER FM and probably others.
Talk about parties is permitted on this wall, including fundraising parties for community groups. Absolutely no more messages about the radio debate are permitted here, including pointers to any other place where it is mentioned. All such messages will be deleted. Please make my (volunteer) job easier by respecting this decision.

One Night in Heaven was great! Never heard Stephen play such a diverse set - great stuff. Sean was awesome, the live cross worked, Luke (what do you say!). Thanks to the Free team again!

"it's been 24 hours since that crap about TW was written. where's the follow up ? " More importantly, why is it still here? It's the worst example of personal vilification and unsubstantiated crap I've seen here since ***** threatened to take Pinkboard to the cleaners.

on Sunday August 20, Gas officially lost it's soul. I think I heard the worst music on the face of the earth. it reminded me of the music that accompanied the games on my Commodore64. eeeeek ! dont know or care who the djs were, but I never want to here them again. what happened to queens being on the cutting edge in terms of music ? that rubbish wouldnt even get played in the daggiest suburban straight clubs. I miss Ben & Steve at Gas.
Stalker - Mon Aug 21 14:05:44 2000
The DJ's for 'one night in hell' were, Stephen Blomfield, Shaun Manly & Luke Leal. With a line up like that did you really expect one night in Heaven??
Mon Aug 21 14:25:28 2000
Can anyone tell my what type of music was played at the last
Wharf 8 party ? I get soooo confused with all the labels.
Partygirl - Mon Aug 21 15:08:22 2000

Went to S*W*A*R*M Sequence on Saturday nite... god I love those parties! Sub Bass Snarl played a wicked live two hour set downstairs with their wacked out drum'n'bass styles, while upstairs the place was torn apart with hard stompin' techno. As usual the party attracted a totally bizarre but always friendly mix of goths, ferals, funky inner city folks, young and old, and quite a few hardcore techno queers (glad to see I wasn't the only one there). If you like the alternative styles and hard ass sounds (and a great venue to boot) then I hope to see ya down there next month.

one night in "heaven" was absolulty horrific!!!....the live link up with wayne g was a sham!!!
the sound was awful....rent a crowd in full force....and the live "act" should have been locked away!!!.....whoever she was.??
Tue Aug 22 0:17:39 2000
This is the opinion of the poster. Given that there are a few people with an enormous grudge against FREE FM I would not be surprised it this poster did not even attend. - Panther
the sound system at Gas is great (better than arq) it was the music that was awful
Stalker - Tue Aug 22 1:38:06 2000
Can I come out now? Is it safe? ;) To the person who was threatening to "out" me: you cannot possibly know who I am. Your attempt at "censorship by exposure" will not work. And you should also be very careful about launching a vendetta against someone when you do not know for sure if you have the right person. Not only could you hurt "innocent" people, but you might end up getting into trouble yourself.

Heard a rumour about a possible party ( not Frisky ) on the
Oct long weekend. Does anyone have any info. They said a
big party not the usual weekenders ?
Thanks
Tue Aug 22 8:54:59 2000
Yeh the olympics closing party at fox studios - will be huge only international DJ's courtesy of socog watch this space
Tue Aug 22 11:34:09 2000
Not just internationals are at Fox - ask a few of the big names what they are doing that night.
Tue Aug 22 12:02:28 2000
What is it with promoters and club owners, they put on international vocal guests, with a shifty microphone, plus reproduce this on poor quality desks. These people and indeed the record companies should do the right thing by the artist. Provide a set up like that at live gigs or MG. At least Frisky can get the production right! I'm not starting a debate about the pro’s n cons of Frisky parties. But to my knowledge I know of only the Rat parties whom stand out as excellent sound engineers and provide excellent equipment. Most promoters provide microphones, which have been dropped one two many times. Normally by the resident out of it drag queen on a verbal vendetta against some patron heckling. As for the poor cross to Heaven on Sunday night, what a shame....
Tue Aug 22 12:33:29 2000
The Incognito party? At Colonial Stadium? No self respecting queen would be seen dead at it - or was. Beyond is the thing now days. PS - Mr Panties, what happened to the Music? It died in Sydney the day that house was banished from the Dome. What goes up, must come down. So say Shirley & I.
lovin' it - Tue Aug 22 13:04:06 2000
OK....TO clearing the floor - Mon Aug 21 13:34:50 2000.The Question here is why did you attend ? This was Free FM's 7th party the music style has never changed.Unless this this was your first Free FM party then you have nobody to blame than yourself for not having a good night--------next,Stalker - Mon Aug 21 14:05:44 2000 It appears you are a fan of Ben and Steve Alkins at Gas.Why did you bother going on Sunday night ? Its obvious you were never gonna get Ben & Steves style of music. All you did was waste your time and money by attending.A superfluous exercise on your behalf.----------next,Mon Aug 21 14:25:28 2000 Degrading 3 highly respected and popular gay community DJ's like that shows that you dont have a grasp of who the popular DJ's in this town really are.All three have represented this comminity at Mardi Gras and Sleaze Ball parties so I think that shows how highly regarded that are as DJ's.OK,so you didnt like what you heard, fortunately you are in the smallest of minorities.------------next Tue Aug 22 0:17:39 2000 This person had the "This is the opinion of the poster" tag placed on him by Panther who summed it up so well.Lets face it I agree, you weren't even there. So put your wooden spoon away and stop stirring the pot----------next Stalker - Tue Aug 22 1:38:06 2000 Incorrect.Everybody i spoke to said how yuk the sound at gas was.I spoke to two of the Dj's yesterday who said the accoustics (is that you spell it?) were absolutely horrible and there was no master mixing desk to adjust the EQ at all.It was all preset. Both DJ's i spoke to said it was one of the worst DJ Boxes they have ever worked in.This leads into my final comment which justifies "Tue Aug 22 12:33:29 2000 " comment re the bad microphone for the live act.No master mixing desk means no help for the live singer.Blame it on Gas i say.-------------My opinion on the party was that is was OK,but nowhere near as good as the last 3 or 4 Free parties. The music was consistant as all previous free parties (and isn't consistancy what it is all about).I agree with a previous poster about Steven Blomfields music. It was great.A diversity which i never thought he had him.Luke's set was spot on and exactly the reason why he has come to be regarded in my opinion as one of the top 3 DJ's in this city. The crowd numbers were disappointing but then again what a ridiculous idea putting on a dance party on a non long weekend Sunday, although it didnt stop me from going out and not rocking home till 4.30 on Monday afternoon (gee,I didnt know there were so many places to hang out on Monday days). Thanks to Free for trying so hard and giving as an event to attend during this time of the year when not much seems to be happening.Roll on Sleaze Ball I say !

We like Alex Taylor/Luke Leal/some Sveta type music. So can anyone tell of an upcoming party ? hopefully not in Oxford St ?
We were quite happy to do a Home on Fri nites but thats now finished.
Chas - Tue Aug 22 13:48:13 2000
the only money I wasted was on a cab fare. I was invited to attend the party as I had connections with the radio station (I dont think I even had to pay for a drink) I knew I wasnt gonna get good music, but was suprised at how bad the 'bad' music was. it's my opinion & I'm damn well entitled to it.
Stalker - Tue Aug 22 14:17:26 2000
stalker:yes it is your opinion, but it is the opinion of one person in a room full of people who would not agree with your opinion so you are in the minority.Does that feel good ? It also bothers me why you would accept a free invitation knowing in advance that would not enjoy yourself. In your position I would rather have stayed in bed.
In the Majority - Tue Aug 22 14:48:16 2000
I want Frisky!!! Every time someone uses that word on here it seems to be in a negative why although no one ever says any reasons why they dont like it.
I dont understand..... Ive been to 2 Friskys and they were the most fun. The whole crowd have the best time... no one who goes ever writes a complain on the board the day after. The music is SO good. Its a totally unbelievable party.
If you have ever attended you will find a massive amount of people who are having the time of their lives. No bitchy attitudes just a damn good time. Its no surprise that tickets sell out in minutes while other parties are hawking themselves on this board just hours before the event and still have plenty of tickets to sell.
Tue Aug 22 16:41:40 2000
watch it Stalker. you dont wanna go against the "majority". individual thought is not welcome in here. you must go with the flow, no matter how pathetic it is.
Mr Panties - Tue Aug 22 16:56:31 2000

Tue Aug 22 17:05:56 2000
Yay yay yay! Only a few more sleeps til the most perverted party in Sydney. I've got my tickets...finally! Now, what am I gonna take??
Tue Aug 22 17:13:06 2000
Stalker and mon aug 21, 15;08;22, You are entitled to your opinions, however, I tend to agree that it sounds as if you were not even there. Of course you will say you were, we can't prove otherwise. On top of this your opinions are outright rude and insulting. You are a coward who hides behind an electronic screen and I doubt very much that you would voice your opinions to the faces of the dj's or the promoters of free fm or even sighn your real name on your postings. If you had to i'm sure you would have made your statements in a much nicer and more constructive manner. I agree that opinions should be made. Freedom of speech is essentail in the acceptance of our community. But vindictive and hurtful comments are unacceptable behavior. As a dj myself, I take pride in the fact that I am able to play various styles of music, depending on the situation. I enjoy listening to Greg and Luke play progressive trance upstairs at Arq, and then running downstairs to groove with Gary T. I love the unique style of Stephen Alkins getting hot and sweaty, and I love the commercial hands in the air styles of Sean Manley and Stephen Blomfield. I had a fantastic time at One Night In Heaven, because the dj's played the style that Free fm is renowned for offering. People like Stalker (disturbing name that signifies his personality, I'm sure) that can't enjoy different styles of music (other than what they enjoy most) from time to time, need to open their minds to variation. Alot of people do like commercial music, the stuff that was played at Gas on Saturday night. Some people don't. You don't need to personally abuse and degrade individuals, because it wasn't to your taste. Sean, Stephen and Luke are my peers and my friends, and I hope that they don't read the things that you have said, because they did their best and deserve only praise. Stalker wouldn't like it if someone slandered his profession, telling him he was crap. Since I don't know who Stalker is, I can only hope that he is not someone I know, or worse, a friend of mine, because he obviously has a very small mind and an even smaller heart.
Jake Kilby - Tue Aug 22 17:28:20 2000
Well said Jake, only problem is the Free FM party was on Sunday night. You said Saturday.Oh well, only a minor correction.I think you made your point very clear.Stalker will now hopefully go off and stalk some other worthy cause.Best wishes to you Jake at your RHI debut on Sleaze Ball night.
A>D - Tue Aug 22 18:48:36 2000
Stalker - I am absolutely disguested that, if you were at the One Night in Heaven event as a G*U*E*S*T, that you would come on here and bitch about it. Anyone on their guest list would be a friend of one of the people involved in putting it on, or involved with the station itself. Either way, even if such a person felt it was a dud party, they would still be supportive. I challenge you to reveal yourself, either on this wall or as an Email to Free. You will be removed from the guest list I am sure, and not invited to future events which obviously are not to your liking. I am also that your privilege to be on the guest lists of other parties more to your liking will be removed as well. My guess is that you were not there, and will choose to remain silent as to your identity. You gutless wonder!
If you were on the guest list you would have a good idea! - Tue Aug 22 18:51:29 2000
BTW I was at the party on Sunday night and had a blast. Sound was a limitation of the venue, but still far superior to most offerings for the gay community. Many other promoters turned up and will no doubt have learned lessons with regard to making better use ofthe venue should they choose it for their functions. Lasers coutesy of Oracle were fantastic as always - a first for Gas. Thank you Jake, it was good to see you there for your first outing since Club L***! As for the posting above that Panther added to, I think it is a clear indication that he has reason to believe that it is by the person who is always getting personal on this wall about Free volunteers. He does have their router addresses, after all!
If you were on the guest list.... - Tue Aug 22 19:00:00 2000
Actually it is just my opinion. - Panther
So, has the witchhunt switched from me to Stalker?
TW - Tue Aug 22 19:20:16 2000
Well here goes, I havent posted anything on this board since I was personally attacked through it. Now I just log on after large events to see what people have to say. After reading "stalkers" posting and then Jakes I thought I would add something. I was at the party on Sunday night @ GAS, my bf and I had a great time. A couple of people asked my opinion on the sound and they basically got the same reply - "Im not working" or "it sounds fine over here". I wouldnt go as far to say that the sound is better than ARQ, but then again I wasnt paying too much attention as my I was having a night off with friends. Your comments regarding the DJ's are quite disgusting. To abuse people like you have done can be quite damaging to the individual, I have been there and comments like that if taken personally can hurt.
I find it hard to believe that you were on the guest list and even harder to believe that you didnt pay for drinks. The other two large clubs in Sydney can be quite strict about free drinks, issueing drink tickets when appropriate, im sure GAS would have a similar system in place -...???
I think that you should do some research and find out where Ben and Steven are playing instead of (supposidly)going to events where you dont like the music then posting comments like you have.
I completely agree with Jake and I hope that I dont know you either.
Brad Wright - Tue Aug 22 20:29:51 2000
Personal abuse deleted.
Everyone, chill out.
Before you read on, breathe deeply and count to 10.
Are we relaxed? This wall should be about events and music.
It should not be about criticising people.
If you had a great night please feel free to tell others about it.
If you had a bad night then try to express why you didn't have the fun without
blaming other people for it. Tell us what was wrong, not who spoilt your night.
And do not generalise!
Say "I didn't enjoy the music because it was not what I expected."
Don't say "The music was crap". This is generalising.
Do not say "The DJ couldn't or didn't ...."
In fact make a constructive criticism like "I would have liked less vocals."
The sound at GAS - well, it is not the fault of the promoters and/or the DJs that the Equalisation is locked away and, therefore, not able to be tweaked to suit the style of each DJ and the general style of the music that night. Every speaker system has its strange qualities, as do every room have different standing waves causing resonances that are unpleasant. Yes, the sound on Sunday night could have been better had there been access to the Main Eqs - enough said. Each of the DJs were made aware of the system's limitations and did as much as possible to compensate given the minimal control they have - Hi, Mid, Lo only, as opposed to 31 Eq Bands when the main system control is able to be used. The resonances that are felt quite often at Arq as boomy obnoxious bass are due to venue standing waves, where the frequency feeds back on itself and rolls out of control - notch filtering these frequencies out totally would help stop the system ever getting to that stage. Finally, sound is a terribly subjective thing - what one likes, another may hate. We all (DJs, lighting and sound personnel) do our best with what we are given to work with - the promoters (most) bring in appropriate technical expertise to achieve the best possible result. The comments that quite often appear on this wall come from people who quite often have very little understanding of the true technical nature of the industry we all love - may I be so bold as to suggest that they try, just occasionally, to just have a good time and appreciate the work of others - especially with regards to a fundraiser.

Have heard there will be an end of Olympics party at Fox Studios on Oct weekend. Does anyone have any info ? ie will we be able to buy tickets and will there be at least the RHI or
Hordern being run like the usual dance parties or is it just
a street party type thing just celebrating ?
Wanting to Party - Wed Aug 23 11:47:32 2000
Wanting to party:I believe this event is on as you suggest. It is being marketed exclusively as a str8 party. So if you feel comfortable in the environment of 1000's of DCM boys and girls as well as the yobs from the western suburbs then feel free to go.Me,i'll do Frisky which is on the same night !
Wanting to party...but not at **that** party - Wed Aug 23 11:53:49 2000

Wed Aug 23 13:15:34 2000
Thanks Mr Panties.
Thanks "not at that party" but I prefer mixed crowd anyways
and dont really see yobs forking out $200.
We love Frisky but hate the small dance areas and loooove the
Hordern/RHI as venues. I'm sure we'll find the gay part of the dance floor. No matter how straight, we all seem to end up in the same area of the dance floor. As for the Double Bay set darls they can shove more up their collective noses than any
party crowd
Thanks
Party - Wed Aug 23 13:20:19 2000
I would always like *more* vocals too! I dont want some crappy woman singing for hours on end but tracks with some vocals and a mix of vocal/non-vocal tracks at parties is much appreciated! Vocal tracks help to change the mood to a more celebratory one and gets everyone on that happy vibe. I dont know of many non-vocal track that can do the same, and once youve heard 3 non-vocal thump tracks in a row the mood is gone. Sometimes ARQ on Sat night gets a little too *Thumpppp Thumpppp* around 2am-3am which annoys everyone I know and makes us wanna leave.
By the way Jake Kilby - saw your current top 10 on the arq site..... u gotta play Billie Piper at Sleaze!! I love that song. Anyway - Im sure whatever you play will be great... good luck and can't wait to hear your set!

Thu Aug 31 21:24:07 2000

Thu Aug 31 22:03:56 2000
How much are Frisky tickets this time around???
Btw.... I think we need Party Wall 13 - a fresh new start not to mention it takes so long to load this one!
Thu Aug 31 22:06:33 2000
Finally the wall is back. I've waited all week to put my posting on in regards to the No Holes Barred party last weekend. For all you punters who missed this one, did you ever miss out on the next generation of parties!! Certainly quite different to start with, but boy did it end up as one hell of a night! Thank you thank you dj's for providing one of the most interesting and incredible sound journeys i've experienced. Craig and Anne, you are certainly to be congratulated on taking the typical party one step further than any other promoter! So when's the next installment?
no holes fan - Fri Sep 1 9:54:42 2000
Craig & Anne who?
Fri Sep 1 10:29:48 2000
Does anyone know of any parties on the Sat nite of Oct long
weekend ? prefer not in Oxford St.
Have heard the Fox party is not going ahead.
Otherwise will have to be Frisky on the Sun nite.
Appreciate info

Tell us more about the no holes barred party, dude - what went down?
Texas Ranger - Fri Sep 1 10:39:21 2000
now you queens behave yourselves or Panfa will close the "graffiti" wall down. keep your opinions to yourself & dont be an individual, that is not tollerated in here. Curfew is at 9pm sharp. failure to provide your employer with a urine sample will result in dismissal. obey all orders without question. . shut up ! be happy !
El Panteez - Fri Sep 1 11:11:56 2000
A comment on ARQ on Sat night.... it was Great!! Definately the best music I've ever heard there. There was not a single crap track and a variety of styles were played throughout the night. That's what it should be like.... a 'smooth' journey of sorts and it kept me going right 'til the end with no drugs and only 2 drinks! You don't need drugs to have a good time when there is great music. I have complained about ARQ's 'grinding into the floor' before but last Sat was truly great!! Pity most of the usual crowd were not there and everyone seemed to be on their best behaviour.
Fri Sep 1 11:41:56 2000
Craig and Anne from the infamous Octopussy! What a party indeed! Lots of sex, lots of play, lots of sexxy people, some fabulous looks, amazing shows (and I really mean amazing! all those pissing scenes!!) gr8 music from gr8 djs (kudos to lanny k and miss yeti). Hope there's a next time!
Fri Sep 1 17:09:21 2000
so how do we mere mortals get to go to the no holes barred parties? some information please
Larry Tate - Fri Sep 1 20:52:26 2000
$80 for a Frisky ticket? Sure I have had a good time in the past but please to compete at the same price level as Sleaze and Mardi Gras I think not. I would presume it would cost a hell of alot more to put on a party of the Fox scale including International djs than a party at the Metro. I do believe they may be pricing themselves out of the market at large!
I think I will be giving George St a miss on Closing Ceremony night - Fri Sep 1 23:03:44 2000
Both SSO and Capital Q this week.Ads calling for submissions from Dj's **and** Vj's (????) for Pride New Years Eve.Only 7 days to complete a submission and have it in.Mmmmm, not much time, lets see what i can knock up over this weekend :)
Another Dj demo...Losing count !! - Sat Sep 2 2:34:58 2000
Octopussy ? Infamous ? never bloody heard of them. Frisky ? 80 bucks ? if cheesy queens wanna pay that much for a party at the metro, then suck shit ! obviously they have no idea they're getting ripped off.
this is the opinion of the poster (no shit Sherlock) - Sat Sep 2 3:02:00 2000
VJs sounds scary. Are they going to recreate the Shift downstairs?
Sat Sep 2 8:34:21 2000
Frisky is well worth the 80 bucks! I got my tickets today and by the look of the line it looks like another sell out. Pricing themselves out of the market??? I think not...... it looks like everyone was perfectly okay with paying that much. The 80 bucks includes the recovery at gas as well as covering the fact that its gonna be a major hassle to set up the party during the olympic period. Sure, I dont think the tickets should cost that much normally (and Id prefer to pay for gas separately should I decide to go) but I think its worth it.
Sat Sep 2 20:13:51 2000
The internationals at Fox are definately off. Looks like Frisky all round
Sat Sep 2 20:40:56 2000
Went to Blue at the Lizard on Thursday. Great idea guys, really liked the music and the crowd. Does this mean we will finally have a Thursday night full of dancing instead of watching the same bloody drag shows week in and week out?
Sat Sep 2 20:45:18 2000
I can't get out tonight! I have work to do :( Anyway..... anyone who went to ARQ Sat night (is there now!!) can u give a (short) report..... would really like to know if it was great like last weekend!?

its bad enuff having to deal with the olympics this month then the october long weekend and all at the same time gearing up for sleaze on Nov 11 without Pride centre calling for DJ submissions for New Years eve with only 7 days given to get a submission in before cut off date.busy busy busy !!! C'mon Pride centre be fair dinkum !!!
another line cause im so busy :) - Sun Sep 3 15:58:18 2000
7 days is a bit stupid true. Why not be better organised and advertise earlier. Then again, if you had to listen to all the tapes, maybe you'd be inclined to keep it to the very keenest DJs.
EC - Sun Sep 3 16:27:40 2000
Why even bother with tape submissions from anyone other than unknown DJ's?
TW - Sun Sep 3 17:49:42 2000
The Burning Question in relation to the DJ selection for Pride New Year will be if Kate Munroe gets picked again.Remember last new years eve how she got the middle spot in the Hordern. And all this while she was ****on the board**** at Pride ! Talk about the cliche "jobs for the boys".Im betting she gets "picked" (to use the term loosey) again this year, hell from what I hear she is heavily consulted as to who the DJ's should be at NYE !
Major conflict of interest - Sun Sep 3 21:55:14 2000
I went to No holes barred, and in my opinion the only hole that should have been barred should have been craig and anns wallet. I did not get value for money, and the hype surrounding this production did not deliver a good product. Music did not impress me, and all the pre-fanfare on acts & sex shows, should have produced the vice squad, but after seeing poorly presented acts, should have been reported to the fraud squad. I have seen better at Inquisition, not only planned, but also spontaneously performed on the dance floor. I will not bother being parted from my money to attend another Craig and Ann event again, and one question arises herre. What do the profits from this "community event" go to.
Whip up a frenzy! - Sun Sep 3 22:14:56 2000
you people need to get out of your own space and hear some real DJs and here ability to mix. checkout some str8 bars. there usally gay friendly and the music kicks ass. whatever your taset in music you'll find a venue in sydney that caters for it. don't be venue focused. go hear someone like Pee Wee Farris or Nick Fish and you soon relise the so called gay DJs, well I don't want to say it but you know what I mean
chill - Mon Sep 4 0:03:48 2000
You're assumption that "we people" only go to gay bars is even more revealing than your intimation that Queer djs aren't "real" and can't mix.(!) Ever heard of Steven Alkins, Robert Racic, Ron Oram, Steve Sonius, Bill Cotsis, Junior B or Annabelle Gaspar ? In addition to playing at straight bars, regularly, queer djs are widely regarded by djs of many sexual orientations as extremely capable mixers, some might even say leaders in their field, including their peers likr Pee Wee( ask him what he thinks of Alkins for example....)Many djs in mainstream gay clubs play a highly popular musical style that is more hit than mix, and it pumps the crowd they've got... Your comments about the skills, and taste, of djs in straight clubs are fair enough but paying out on djs in gay clubs is unnecessary, ill informed, and counter-productive to the djs you admire...Praise work just as well without the accompanying disrespect...
Hard "n Chillin - Mon Sep 4 2:02:48 2000
I read that list of DJs and I think ... "No, the only ones in that list that can beatmix *properly!* are Allkins & Racic"

To the various posters about No Holes Barred ... some replies to some questions.
#If you'd like to go to the next one, email your postal address to hellfiresydney@hotmail.com or call Craig on 0416 392 361 and leave it on the voicemail. The parties aren't advertised at all, so it's the only way you'll find out.
#Who is Octopussy? A bunch of people who've been around for some years now ... previous weekly events include "Tilt-a strictly chemical point of view" and "Sunday School", as well as lots of one-offs like Quirkus Circus, Mondo Bizarro, Octopussy, Somewhere Over The Rainbow etc. We also run the Hellfire Club.
#To the poster who didn't like the music - well, we think Lanny K and Miss Yetti are two of the best underground DJ's in the country, and we loved their 8 hour set. The nature of such music means that not everyone will like it. As to the bad value comment - We're quite taken aback. If you do your maths on 150 tickets @ $25 each then deduct shows, DJ's, lighting hire, PA hire, play equipment hire, decor and other labourers, you'll realise our wallets are quite small indeed. No Holes Barred has never misrepresented itself as a community event, but it ain't no moneyspinner either! As to your opinion of the shows, we'd take them a little more seriously if you didn't hide behind anonymity, as we think (as do many) that the likes of Glita Supernova, Sexie Galexie, Ana & Fiona, Ultra & Kinkabelle are all wonderful performers - and surely you've never seen a show like the enema/speculum/pissing number at any Inquisition. If you wish to discuss the matter further, please feel free to call the above number.
Craig (Octopussy) - Mon Sep 4 13:26:55 2000
Kate consults on the NYE DJ's , no wonder the last few parties
have felt like a time warp .......sorry Kate I know you have you followers but not my type...........pity they dont realise the majority of party goers were at school when her style of music was played

Dear Chiclet, given your many years standing watching the industry you should know of the increased costs that occur due to major events. Labour in the wee small hours (when roads aren't closed and deliveries are allowed costs money, so does equipment when in short supply. Added to that, i'm sure there are some interesting scenic and production concepts being utilised, hence the need for increased ticket price. *****

oh no, I was never dating Paul Goodyear. increased Fwisky costs ? why is Space only 50 bucks + you get Dimitri from Paris DJing at the party ? international DJs aint cheap & I know for a fact that Space has a killer sound system. Fwisky has lots of lights & not much else. quote "Chiclet darling - you really should watch out or you will land if the hot air runs out! Especially at your age." .... what the hell does that mean ? pffft !
yeah, it's me, Chiclet ! - Mon Sep 4 18:43:11 2000
chill (mon 4/12:51) beatmixing is, like any other aspect of playing music, open to creative variations. The beat is both a construct of the mixing, and an existing element of the tracks used.None of those is a fixed element. Some people think seamless segueways & metronomic consistency is ideal, other go for breaks, cross beats, cold cuts, or the counter rhythms of jazz & hip hop which deliberately deconstruct traditional beatmix styles. I think the notion of 'beatmixing properly' is a fairly subjective response, and we are each entitled to appreciate different styles without resorting to notions of artistic correctness or the dismissals of propriety...

No Holds Barred sounds great to me. Is there anything like it in Melbourne? (just to dent for one milli-microsecond the Sydney focus of this board). If not, is anyone interested in starting one. Sounds like getting back to the real alternative scene.
PaulD - Tue Sep 5 19:28:19 2000
the luke leals baby bears and jack or jake somebody's abilities are no where near that of the Nick Fish's, Pee Wee's or even Alex Taylor, a gay DJ, and where does he play on a Sat night? a str8 club. Go see these guys in action and you'll see and hear what I'm talking about. Others may think that the abilites of the likes of luke are good. but work this out a DJ at ARQ is paid $75 per Hr. at DJ @home is paid 300 per Hr.

if I said that, I'd get in trouble ! *biting my tongue*
the Stalker - Tue Sep 5 21:52:43 2000
yeah yeah yeah hmmmmmm - Tue Sep 5 21:00:05 2000 and arq is a club catering to 10% of the populus.Home (a str8 club) is catering to the other 90% so your mathematics makes sense. It doesnt mean these str8 dj's deserve "our" attention any more than the gay ones.Quite frankly I get this gutteral sick feeling at the thought of hanging out with all the yobbs at home on a saturday night.I am very happy supporting the G&L community and the G&L clubs and the G&L DJ's.The straights can have there own little dreamworld !!
A>D - Tue Sep 5 22:52:11 2000
I support any DJ how plays my fave music - hi-nrg and I wont
trash other DJ's because the dont. If you dont like their type of music - hmmmmmmmm - then fine, but dont trash them. Each to their own. Nothing worse then someone shoving their notions down your throat thinking their way is the only way.
Does anyone know of any coming parties Sept/Oct ? again preferring hi-nrg type music ? Like Frisky's but not the Metro and now know HouseSolutions not for us.
Nickyh - Wed Sep 6 10:26:05 2000
you will actually find that space, while being based on the house theory is actually more tech-house and techno with some beats and funk chucked in. An impressive production with great djs. jon hardy rocks as does ajax and mr nick toth-who goes for a beaty and breaky and funky rehash mixed with style and ease.
while this is a mainly str8 party it is a good insight into the "other side of the tracks". Yes, it' s sold out, but there will probably be more.

At 5:35PM next Thursday, 14 September, the Olympic Flame will go down Oxford Street past the Midnight shift on its way into the city. Are you thinking what I am thinking? :) ...... well maybe not... Its on kids. We shall start at the Shift at 5PM and commence guzzling. At about 5:25 we shall endeavour to stagger onto the sidewalk and watch the big gay cigarette lighter go past. Now you may think this is silly but trust me you absolutely have to see the entire procession of CRAP that travels with this flame. And besides that I want to know Who Will Carry the damn thing!!!!!!! Okay so if you are up for it then we will all meet downstairs shift from 5PM next thursday!
party wall torch bearer - Wed Sep 6 12:59:34 2000

Best gay djs who know how to beatmix...well you can't get any better than Stephen Alkins and Lanny K. Different musical styles, but they sure know how to work the decks! Good on'ya lads, you certainly rank amongst any str8 djs in this town!
Wed Sep 6 17:50:09 2000

Thu Sep 7 15:48:00 2000

to anon above this- yet another idiot who does not bother to check their facts before sprouting their incessant drivel - frisky donates four dollars to two charities from the sale of each ticket and octopussy are still a little small and new to have enough left over to donate just yet. soo to anon, go away dear, the grown ups are talking!
Shaerin Magoodies - Thu Sep 7 16:10:40 2000
Some people should get there facts str8 b4 making false statements....Octopussy is not run by str8 promoters. In fact, you probably could not get promoters who are more queer than the people behind Octopussy.
Thu Sep 7 16:21:08 2000
To - A>D - Tue Sep 5 22:52:11 2000 - I was under the impression that DJ's were paid for their talent, and not on what proportion of the population their sexulality represents. And if you're going on the size of the club ... Home is about twice the size of arq, yet they pay four times as much. On either front your argument is pretty poor, and it seems you're happy to accept for gay DJ's to be treated as second class.
Thu Sep 7 16:58:22 2000
No DJ's are paid based on their hairdo. A beehive is bound to get more for the money. If I was a size queen I'd pay a DJ based on...well you know.

I have a few things to say- #1 Nickyh : it's Mr Panties to you ! #2 Lovin' It : you know damn well how I feel about that putrid Island. dont be cheeky ! #3 "Arq DJ rates vs Home DJ rates" Home is a well run, innovative 'superclub' that treats it's DJs with respect. Arq is well .... ummm ... a club at taylor square. #4 Lovin' It (again) you ARE a size queen. I know all about you & what you do at parties. tisk tisk. #5 -Steven Allkins is doing next years Mardi Gras CD ! oops, probably shouldnt have said that. #6 - cant remember, but I'll come back when I do.

Hmmmm $80 for Frisky.
I know they donate $4 per tkt to charity but surely they are starting to price themselves out. Not like your hiring
an empty shed and having to supply toilets, seating etc. All of those are already at Metro. Greed ? you decide posters.........

For all you fans of pop and commercial music here is something to talk about - I just got a copy of the dance mixes of "On A Night Like This" By Kylie Minogue. The cd will be available in shops on Monday 11/9/00.The main commercial mix is by Motiv8 and its going to be (as far as commercial dance music goes) ***The*** hit of this summer !! Check It out. This is Kylie Minogue at her best (finally she has come out that boring "I only do credible music" cloud of the mid 90's) to get back to her roots and do what she does so well,Pure pop !! Move over Madonna, you're boring !

Does that mean that JoJo should only do parties for straight (or bi?) Spaniards? If he is giving gay people what they want and they are attending, what's the problem? If you have a problem, just don't go! Gay dollars should only be spent on gay people? Why??? As for value for money, I think you should make some phone calls to venues, lighting, sound and laser providers, theming consultants, security, dancing boys, set designers, door staff, ticket outlet bitches for sale date, graphic designers, printing, advertining, phone calls, postage, computer and office resources, then add a profit margin (which you ***are*** entitled to!), a return on tens of thosands of dollars invested into each party (the cost of the risk of the money going into the party rather than using it for another investment) and see if you can do it cheaper. If you can, and you are gay, why don't you do it? And its crap that someone overheard JoJo saying that in a cafe when the New Year party went on sale. If only you knew how much effort went into a high production party! For the money we get in the end would could easily be all doing something for finanially rewarding with our time. If we have the talent to pull off a successful party (and it requires a lot of talent in many many fields!), don't you think we have the financial resources and brains to do something else besides get the joy of seeing lots of happy people at our parties? It is a challenge, a hobby, a creative outlet, and yes, sometimes we even do it for appreciation, but not money! Even though I am on the guest list, I have paid my $160 for my bf and myself, and gladly.

Actually they shouldn't make the phone calls because their phone company isn't owned by a gay man. (Though some do put a paltry amount back into the community.) Nor should they hire any venue, lasers or post any mail.

Okay so the point has been proven. JoJo was overheard saying re the price hike "Queens will pay any price to go to a Frisky Party". Let's support the community shall we? Not!
God Bless free enterprise - Fri Sep 8 21:20:00 2000 You really do listen to crap - there is no way on God's earth Jo Jo would have said that! He and Olivia have basically only gay and lesbian friends - they are part of the community and your vile disinformation is most unappreciated.
