Agree about Arq on Saturday Night - Why do they insist on grinding people into the ground around 5am? It should be kept up right to the end - that keeps people there for the morning downstairs, doesn't it? Makes commercial sense to instruct the DJ accordingly. And about downstairs, what awesome mixes going on for minutes and minutes on end. Good on Arq for returning the Hand In Hand Star to Sunday mornings - is it to continue??
Tue Jun 20 10:35:35 2000
I thought "he" was moving to London or was that just a publicity stunt ?
Chiclet - Tue Jun 20 12:06:18 2000
I agree the DJ last Sunday morning is probably the best DJ Arq has on their books, so why not make use of him? get rid of the normal Saturday night dribble and get some quality happening. Or does the Saturday night DJ grind people into the ground just to sabotage other DJ’s sets?? mmm...interesting line of thought.
The opinion of the poster - Tue Jun 20 12:25:46 2000
by grinding people into the ground you mean what? Playing really hard or playing really crap?? What kinda music was ARQ playing @ 5am?

Street Walker - Tue Jun 20 15:53:44 2000
By "grinding people into the ground" - playing really crap music which doesn't go anywhere, it demoralises you and you feel tired and cranky that you've waited around all night for the music to go somewhere, and it doesn't. So you've wasted all your energy on crap and just want to go home and kick yourself that you didn't have the sense to realise earlier in the night that it wasn't going to get any better and you should have gone somewhere else. Does that make sense??
Tue Jun 20 16:31:59 2000
Oh a new style of music. I'm so glad we have such musically educated people posting on this board. 'grinding people into the ground' and demoralising music????I didn't realise fARQ had so much to offer. This page is hilarious.

Well I went to Arq on Satdee night meself... but when the blonde gal asked me for 15 bucks, I said "no way I'm paying $15 to go into a club when I know I won't stay long enough for more than a couple of drinks". Sounds like it was a good decision. Walked home and had a real good night's sleep!

Wed Jun 21 9:50:57 2000
ARQ has attracted a much striaghter crowd and that was inevitable wth the club being so popular. Keep complaining about it but where is there a better club to go on a Saturday night? ARQ need to ensure that it does not follow the path of the Shift and hire the one DJ to play the whole night through. Remember when Steve C and Paul G played every Saturday night. It got real boring real quickly.
Tom Tom - Wed Jun 21 10:24:30 2000
IF you are all so sick of Arq...remember this !!!
The Shift will in about 6-8 weeks completely shut down its upstairs section for 8-10 weeks while it is completely gutted and re-renovated.It will be opened up again in time for Sleaze Ball.***FInaLLy*** gay men and women will have a venue that will be pro-active for "OUR" community and will be somewhere nice to go.Whilst ARq is "somewhere nice to go decor wise" its not somewhere nice to go patronige wise as we all know.
C'mon the shift, the good ol' days are soon to return !!
AntiArq - Wed Jun 21 10:47:03 2000
Arq/Shift...Shift/Arq What a lot of drivel. Let's cut to the real world. The owners of these places have only one objective, and that is to get a return on their investment. If they attract a G/L content sufficient to make a profit then they will deliver what that crowd wants, however, if the profit is not coming in, then their marketing direction must be towards the patrons who will pay enough to meet the operation's demands. If that is a straighter crowd, then so be it. No complaints, no guilt, just a routine business decision. Whether Arq does this, or anyone else, it does not matter. To say the Shift will be a Gay and Lesbian crowd when it re-opens after a refit is assumption, and that could be a big mistake. For an example, look at the Taylor Square Hotel. For a bigger return on the premises, the owners jammed the Leather crowd back into the basement, then opened the upper floors to a different market. Instead of three bars over four floors, that crowd was compressed into two floors, and two bars, with the hope that leather numbers did not drop, while the market objective of the top two floors was switched to a straight crowd. Lets finish with an easy question. Who owns the Taylor Square Hotel? Who owns The Shift? The same person. I would not bank on The Shift staying Gay & Lesbian if it is not patronised enough by that crowd to make an huge profit.
Great Expectations? - Wed Jun 21 11:25:02 2000
I don't really care if the crowd is str8, mixed or gay, as long as the music is worthwile, which at Arq it aint. I'd rather go to Home or just go home.
Hope the shift doesn't make the same mistakes - Wed Jun 21 11:31:10 2000
The expectation that any Sydney venue is going to be 'Gay and Lesbian' if there is a greater return in not doing so is just pissing in the wind. Not that I really care- IMHO a venue attracting a truly diverse and easygoing crowd would be much more interesting than a 'str8-down-the-line-bent' crowd. Even the notion of a venue being 'Gay and Lesbian' has got to be questionable- assuming it is even something worth wishing for. How many lesbians do you see in the Shift lately- or anywhere on Oxford St for that matter ? Not many these days.
Devil's Felch - Wed Jun 21 13:03:46 2000
I agree with all of your comments Great Expectations (except for the reference that the Barracks is a leather bar). To strengthen your argument, you might also have mentioned that Tim Berry, who owns the Shift and TSH, also owns DCM.
Wed Jun 21 13:07:06 2000
Tim Berry ***used*** to own DCM !!!! Get it right will ya ?
AntiArq - Wed Jun 21 14:47:37 2000
I so disagree with some of the earlier comments.Lets face it,Arq is run by straights who dont care who patronises there establishment unless it makes money. The people who own the shift have always wanted it to be a gay and lesbian venue. At least the "intent" is there, which in my mind is the most important thing.
AntiArq - Wed Jun 21 14:51:02 2000
one of the best things about arq on a sunday morning has been the fabulous coco downstairs. his set is a joy and as uplifting as music should be at that time in the morning.....and funky.
after i finish work I'll head there at 7am just to chill out and listen to his fine choice of tracks along with some friends.
oh what a beautiful morning......"it' s going to be a fine day today......" thank you mr d.j
p.s everyone seems to be rather happy and groovy whenever he plays and that ultimately is a d.j successfully doing a damn fine job.

Wed Jun 21 15:30:32 2000
What is IMHO?
Wed Jun 21 15:30:36 2000
Walt boy I agree with you. I finish work at 7.30am Sunday morning and I when im not to tired pop in to ARQ for a drink and a bop around. The music is up, happy, funky with a nice selection of old tracks incorporated. Wether it be Coco or Jamie Sciban I always seem to have fun. In respect to the "st8" people, so what! I often party with st8 friends, the are not into GBH, so there is no problem with that, they are not homophobic, all they want is to have fun in a gr8 venue. As gay and lesbian people we have always wanted acceptance from the st8 community, by carrying on like some of you are you only make us (the community) look bad. Plus if you ask the owners if ARQ is strictly a G & L venue I know for a fact that they will say no.
Wed Jun 21 16:58:02 2000
Then why do "we" support a venue that is opening advocating that it is a venue for all and sundry ?
Its a disgrace !!!
Anti Arq - Wed Jun 21 17:27:51 2000
it is all about being in a safe space. you can't necessarily tell a personal sexuality by looking at them, so you cannot police the borders that easily. i think the problem is that some of the clientelle are aggressive, they take in an attitude that they should be able to disrespect gays, lesbians and trannies. some 'guys' also go to 'pick-up' women (ie turning nasty when their uninvited intentions are rejected).
Wed Jun 21 17:53:02 2000
I have lost count of the times I have witnessed some-one (drug) freaking out in the toilets at ARQ and the couple of GHB overdoses made me want to stay away even more.
Wed Jun 21 17:55:33 2000
We patron clubs (and gyms and schools, and churches and shops) that aren't safe because we're gullible and we just want to be cool despite how uncomfortable we might feel in the process.
never been to arse - Wed Jun 21 18:38:50 2000
I feel compelled to both defend and apologise for my reference to the young lady in the collection booth at arq looking "straight". It was only meant as tongue in cheek but if it offended I apologise. As Seinfeld said "not that there's anything wrong with that". Unfortunately, my candid comment might have caused people to miss the point I was making. And that was that I object to having to pay a $15 door charge to go to a club.
Wed Jun 21 19:14:36 2000
PS: On the 1st July, will entry to Arq cost $16.50?
Wed Jun 21 19:15:32 2000
NO...Arq will be greedy and probably "RoundUP" there door charge to $20.00 blaming the GST !

AntiArq - Wed Jun 21 19:56:58 2000
Re $15 to get into a club, if you cant appreciate the fact that Millions of dollars were invested into ARQ and they have to pay security, bar staff, cleaners, management, DJ's, lighitng techs etc every time they open you shouldnt be going. $15 is nothing compared to $20 at NV/Tantra and DCM. $15 for the technology, decor and level of comfort is nothing. ARQ should be on Par with the other clubs or more so with home being $25.
Stop Complaining, start appreciating - Wed Jun 21 20:40:23 2000

Thu Jun 22 0:27:01 2000
This is the opinion of the poster.
Anti Arq- who is this 'we' ? The G&L community or you and your friends ? And if you think this Berry guy has the 'intent' to have a gay or lesbian venue, then pls explain what has happened to the two top floors of the old Barracks ? Did the Taylor Sq Hotel happen by accident ? In terms of intent, there is probably nothing to separate Berry and the ARQ owners. Except that ARQ is usually a bit cleaner.
Devil's Felch - Thu Jun 22 11:05:50 2000
Just wanted to say that I've gone to ARQ lots of times and the girls in the booth are always really friendly and polite. They do a good job. I have never had an issue with the doormen either, they are usually quite polite. And $15 is not a lot of money to pay for club entry. The quality of whats inside is sometimes debatable but thats another issue - if you dont like it dont go.
Also thanks to the person who explained what they meant by 'grinding into the ground'. I know this feeling quite well - especially ARQ sometimes on a saturday night. We tell ourselves its gonna get better after this track and often if doesnt!

Dear Stop Complaining, start appreciating - Wed Jun 21 20:40:23 2000 ...Why stop complaining when there is NOthing to actually start appreciating except a club that sucks the community dry without even a "thank you please come again".I feel more comfortable in a less than glamourous environment where at least I am going to be treted like a human being and not just a "poofter with alot of money to spend"
Anti Arq - Thu Jun 22 15:46:30 2000
Dear Anti ARQ - I still dont see how ARQ is sucking us dry. Becasue they charge us to enter? Should it be free to the G & L community? Becasue a couple of str8 business men own it? Because they dont say thank you please come again when you leave? Does any club say thany you please come again? I think that you just dont like large clubs, you prefer smaller venues where they know your name. Fine - go to those venues but dont slag ARQ for being what it is. If you feel like you are being treated like a "poofter with a lot of money of spend" I suggest that you contact the clubs management to express your concerns, or simply dont go near the club. Im sure the club and the other patrons wont miss a bitter, miserable person like you.
Stop Complaining, stay at home - Thu Jun 22 16:32:35 2000
Yet i still feel strongly about the way this blood sucking club treats the G&L community !!
AntiArq - Wed Jun 21 21:18:51 2000
The only reason I can see you dont like ARQ is becasue they allow str8 people in. I remember the shift letting my str8 friends in with me when we were all going there..... maybe not to the same extent that ARQ does but there were still str8 people in the shift. Do you have a problem with st8 people? Do you think you might catch something? If this is the case I feel very sorry for you - you poor poor person.
ProARQ - Thu Jun 22 16:42:53 2000
My complaint is this : What Is arq doing "FOR" the G&L community except taking all our money and lining there greedy str8 pockets ?
I am not aware of this establishment ever doing a night to raise funds for any G&L cause,ie,Aids trust,Bobby Goldsmith etc etc.Even DCM had a fund raiser once a year for "OUR" causes.
The attitude of take take take and give nothing in return except for a "pretty" place to "be seen" and at the same time make fat profits sickens not just me but more G&L people than any of you ProArqers actually realise.
AntiArq - Thu Jun 22 17:22:16 2000
Anti Arq, (and please someone correct me if I am wrong) This year Arq had the Mr Gay Australia comp hosted there, which proceeds were made to AIDS trust.
Also, Arq is a business, not a charity drop in center for G&Ls. And last time I checked, a business was to make money. As far as I am concerned the staff are nice, friendly and polite (more so than a lot of other places I might add....).
If you feel so hurt by Arqs apparent ill treatment of you, then you invest about 1 million dollars in to building a club, pay someones wages, pay the rent, buy the stock, pay the DJs etc etc and then let everyone in for free, and why let let them drink for free too!!!!!
Once again, Arq is a business, and is quite well run too. (My only complaint would, as someone else mentioned, the Toilets do get pretty foul)
Also ro Arq - Thu Jun 22 18:11:14 2000
Previous post:OH what a load of piffel (and this is the opinion of this poster)
Thu Jun 22 18:16:29 2000
Face it people, there is no gay and lesbian community any more. It's all just business. "gay" is now only just one of so many more consumer profiles. And it is one that is easily replaced if they aren't going to be making enough money from us.
Thu Jun 22 18:36:13 2000
What happened to the money from the 2002 benefit held at a certain popularly discussed venue?
Thu Jun 22 18:48:47 2000

Typical attitude EC. That's why the community is held in such high repute by itself, let alone others in the broader community.
Thu Jun 22 20:01:25 2000
AntiARQ - You expect too much. Do all str8 venuse give back to the communty as well...??? I think not! They may have the occasional fund rasier - im sure ARQ have as well. As mentioned above ARQ is a business. You obvoisly have no business sense as you would understand what is involved in running one. If all business donated money to the people they took from what would we have left.
ProARQ - Thu Jun 22 20:19:26 2000
Perhaps a better, fairer, more equal society?
Thu Jun 22 20:24:27 2000

Thu Jun 22 20:40:09 2000
Hmm..... the question I asked has been answered above...possibly not the point I was getting at. From somebody in business I just know its difficult to consistently give back.
Pro ARQ - Thu Jun 22 20:51:12 2000
I realise what you are saying regarding businesses being it in it for the money. But the thing is, when making up their "consumer profiles" they forgot that, while the gay and lesbian market shows alot of loyalty to the places they frequent, they also expect loyalty in return. An incomplete or incorrect consumer profile will eventually do you wrong. It's about time that they realised their mistake and corrected it, for their own business's sake.
Thu Jun 22 21:05:02 2000
Finally some common sense on this board.

What gives you the impression that the Beresford and The Flinders 'give back' to the community? The most community minded pubs/clubs on the strip are most certainly the Stonewall Hotel and The Oxford Hotel. Presuming you judge them by the amount of money they give back to community groups and the amount of other support (hosting fundraisers etc) they offer. You are right in saying that Dawn also does her bit.

picture it.....if you will.......somewhere in the future and it will happen since we have the past to use as experience.
I.E lest we forget orb or sublime or home or......Anyway maybe around april after mardi gras has died down and and we' ve all finished "discussing" how great/bad/sad/happy/fantastic/music sucked/d.j s sucked/lighting good/too many vari-s etc etc in reference to the party......and hey presto a new club opens and so lots of us, me included all go because apparently it' s fabulous, it' s new, it' s where our friends want to go, they' ve spent lots of money and the sound(like at arq kids)is good. So we go and it' s like we' re back in the hordern or whatever moment/hall/party you do and it' s just like so
excellent......only thing is it all kind of gets a little too much after a while. Weather changes, people kinda take a break and a general feeling of complacency hits hard. Well I blame it on the club. Yes, lets blame the orb, sublime, home etc etc for all our bad nights and all their business practices. What.....community? community is up to us not the club or some vari lite........the best thing about somewhere new opening up is that everyone gets excited and inspired and everyones happy and ready to dance all night long and smile in the spirit of mirrorball madness. There' s your community spirit in regards to clubs etc
I remember the vibe at arq when it first opened...come on kids you have to agree it was fun.....thats the whole point fun. say it together. if you dont like arq go somewhere else. if you dont like shift go somewhere else...oh I' ve said my piece.
no offence to anyone intended, but a community spirit needs to be seen to be believed and then maybe things will change. I go to every club imaginable, hell I even work in a "straight" one.

a big shout out to Mr Panties who has pulled another one on us. for the past few weeks, he's been telling everyone that Twilo is opening in Darlo, the "story" even got printed in S.S.O. Ha!
Beige Power Ranger - Sat Jun 24 2:08:52 2000
Mr Panties IS opening Twilo. Its just that its in a galaxy far away in the delta quadrant.Probably opening it with the caretaker and neelix on some planet where "panties-trance" is the "in" style of dance music !!

Mr Panties re the start trek references. Its because to seem to live in a fantasy world where every DJ plays panty music and the world is just peeky keen and hunky dory.Just like in Star Trek !

what rubbish. They are just drivel that don't make sense, that are just purely off topic. The only way they would be on topic is if they were the result of too much party drugs.
Sat Jun 24 20:51:09 2000
I am sure Mark Murphy will be considered for sleaze if he submitted a tape. Does anyone know if he did? Hordern wish list...Jamie Sciban, Baby Bear & Mark Murphy!!!
Sun Jun 25 9:14:21 2000
Wow! That sounds like an ICE line up!
Sun Jun 25 9:30:22 2000
Ministry of Sound's Brisbane show was unreal. No bomb scares, attitudes or drugged and boozed out people to ruin the show. Just dancing to great records. Sydney partygoers and clubbers should take a leaf out of the other citys' scenes. No wonder Melbourne is leading the country in dance music culture and great parties like Ministry: they concentrate on music not drugs.

Hey everyone,Whats the goss from Arq last night ? I hear Kate Munroe was abomiddable.100 times worse than Goodyear. Can anybody shed some light on this for me.
I knew it would be bad,How bad is the question ? - Sun Jun 25 16:58:58 2000
It was a great night, Kate Munroe was a real crowdpleaser. It certainly was good to hear a DJ who knows their stuff and delivers it for a change. Those writers who spend their days knocking Kate appear to be running a personal grudge that it far too excessive to be taken seriously. Actually, the knockers are probably doing our community more harm than good, and the community would be better off without them and their horrid little poisonous comments.
Sun Jun 25 21:45:53 2000
250!? Get real. If parties like Homo Eclectus and some of the Ffierce nights (and days) can pull more than 800 people, I'm sure the Hordern would be busy enough. At the very least, give hard music lovers the Dome now that a lot of the Dome boys have gone over to the Men's tent,
Sun Jun 25 22:11:42 2000
kate munroe chickened out and only did the second half of the night at arq.She obviously didnt think she was capable of sustaining a whole night there !
Sun Jun 25 23:09:07 2000
the grand total of punters at all the Homo Eclectus & Ffierce parties combined would be more than 800.
Funk Phenomenon - Mon Jun 26 0:41:18 2000
I have to say, reading the threads here, that the Sydney dance club scene sounds revolting !! In Melbounre, most of the good dance clubs (eg Freakazoid) and Dance Events (eg Oosh, W/D) have both G/L & Str8 patrons (and everything in between !!) all dancing together, all having fun....no agro, no freaks overdosing, nobody worrying about who's what..... plus the music is generally always great. The bouncers are always good, look after most patrons, and keep those who are troublemakers out (they must do - as there is never trouble).
The sexuality of the people you are sharing the dancefloor with doesnt matter, as long as you are all having a good time !!
Melbourne Clubs Rule - Mon Jun 26 1:53:17 2000
doesn't everyone love a melbourne party, such a happy vibe, sydney doesn't have the party vibe that melbourne does so fantastically
Mon Jun 26 2:11:24 2000
Dont start me on the Crappy Melbourne Dance scene . There is simply not enough space here for me to express my opinion on what is a city that is totally devoid of Dj's with any talent (thats why all their major dance parties import numerous out of town Dj's) not to mention the ridiculous lack of a designated suburb for one to go clubbing in with out spending your life savings on taxi fares hopping from one side of the city to the other in a night . And that is just for starters !!@#@!!#
A>D - Mon Jun 26 8:49:19 2000
OH OH OH>>>Shall we get on to Melbourne's stunning weather (or lack there of) as well ????

John - Mon Jun 26 10:13:03 2000
I agree the best dance clubs I have been to are in Melbourne, Brisbane and perth. And I am a Sydney man. Why? Bouncers who treat you with respect, music that is not handbag dullness and good experimental music such as Ollie Olson, Resin Dogs and the guys from Cab Voltaire (what is that band's name?). No disrespect to anyone but I just feel more comfortable in those cities' venues though I must admit when I am in those places there are Sydney imports playing. Anyway Wayne G was quoted as saying Melbourne and Brisbane clubs and parties are as good as ours.
Traveller - Mon Jun 26 10:51:06 2000
Melbourne might play music that is more suited to your taste (re the last post) but their Dj's are technically dreadful. No respect at all towards smooth transistion between one song to the next.It Just sounds like a jack hammer on Chappel Road !!!
Mon Jun 26 10:59:14 2000
Last time I was in Melb I went to Q+A, now there's a groovy venue with a good vibe and a chilled crowd, certainly nothing like that here :(

I picked up a copy of the third Club Kooky cd "Just Is" today. Wow! It's amazing to see what a diverse community we have in Australia, beyond the djing that swaps us all. Bands from Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane too. Good on you Seymour Butz for keep pushing the creativity foward. This cd will be ignored by gay media and Mardi Gras (again!) but lookout for the disc in the shops and check it out - it wont disapoint. Apparently the kooky soundsystem is touring nationally with Biftek in July. Please come to Melbourne Seymour! Go positivity !

Kate Crawford is talented and we think she's dishy. To the Too Spunky person I am in agreement. You know I have a small gut and frankly if I want to take my shirt off and swing blubber around the dance floor its my business. Personally if a bunch of muscle mary's start ego bouncing on the floor I simply go and dance with them and if they don't like it they go and sulk in the toilets. I know women, muscle guys, men etc need their dances and saunas and parties for most nightclubs and venues diversity *must* repeat *must* prevail. It is ok to organise a dance party privatly full of muscle it is not ok to line up outside Dcm or whatever and have bouncers do a pinch test. That sort of thinking is fascist. Also none of this Sydney Dj's are best the rest are crap diversity is crucial if we are to have a large dance scene in this country.

To make Geish at Gas work, they must do a lot more to promote it. I'd love to see it work, however this is not the best time of year for Sunday night clubbing. Remember Frequency at Sublime last year? Another great club night that just couldn't maintain good numbers.

Yeah Saturday night at ARQ was unreal till about 2am ....when Luke left and Kate arrived...then it was shot to hell....

dear pro-arq thanx for your support to my statement. dear panther, thanx for your comment to the person who told me to take a valium and lie down. Rest assured, i have done so. I lay down and before you know it, it was morning and I'd slept through a night at arq.Im sure I would have had a good time, since I would have been out with friends gay and str8 and exchanging smiles and shaking my hustle muscles with complete strangers and loosing myself in gay abandon. Isn' t that what it' s all about after all.

Somehow I don't think Mark Murphy is ever going to put in a tape for Sleaze or Mardi Gras. But hearing him play in the Hordern would really be something to experience. I suppose Kate is a certainty for one hall or another now since she seems to be everywhere, and not just in Sydney either. Really nice grrl with a great record collection, but ...

I think all DJ's are capeable of playing camp music, they just choose not to. Luke, Alex, Kate, Jake etc are all capeable of camping it up. As Alex T, has just been flown around the world I would say that he will almost be a definative, showcasing Aussie Talent..?? Luke and Paul Good year are also up there due to ARQ - keep in mind although there are lots of great DJ's out there, the chances of the more underground DJ's getting a set in a big room are quite hard. Mardi Gras are going to want to make $$, and to make $$ you need people - in their masses. I also agree with the fact that Mr Jake Kilby is quite cute - Id go him or vice versa... :)

Panties - Thu Jun 29 0:26:57 2000
Panties, then why didnt we get camp music at Mardi Gras this year. All we got was bang bang bang, with little or no vocals.Forget about this theory of different music for different parties the RHI "Needs" to the camp hall at Every party to fill the "Need" of the majority of queens who like that style of music, myself included. You want Bang bang Bang music, then go to the Hordern or Dome where that style has been on offer since about 1994.Leave the RHI to its traditional roots and employ the campest dj's that sydney has to offer. Please !!!!

Thu Jun 29 11:36:22 2000
I've had some of the best nights dancing in Australia at ARQ - but my criteria of a good club is good music, smart clean venue, cool crowd. Doesn't matter if you're str8 or G/L/TS surely - its how you relate to others. I'm str8, don't try to pick up people (I'm there to dance) and have always felt welcome by the vast majority of a really friendly crowd. Didn't realise until I saw this board that some people don't like the concept of me being there. Brother - if my presence there bothers you, you've got a problem - nothing about the way I behave in a club will ever get in your face - we come to dance and have fun. Come and give me a hug next Friday!
PS: we really need some more discussion on this board about ARQ - it hardly gets a mention....
str8isgr82 - Thu Jun 29 11:39:09 2000
Oh, come on, you ppl have had the 70's, 80's and 90's and you still can't get past "camp"??? Open your ears! There's a huge range of styles and plenty of great Djs in this city to experience. It's just like being entrenched in the "gay scene" with your narrow minded "we want a separate room, can't possibly have a good time in the same place as Lesbians/str8s/etc" mentality. Get over yourselves. The gay party scene was once progressive and cutting edge - but, no, we want to dance to goddamned Dolly. Homos have been pushing the boundaries of society for ever, but now you want to hang on to some stereotyped cliche from the past? Get out! Experience something new! There's more than just camp or bangin techno - there's probably 50 styles of techno alone. And if you don't think liking acid techno, hip hop or drum and bass is appropriate for homos then think again - it's time to fight back against the stereotypes. Just like at Stonewall in 69 - don't live a stereotype, fight back! It's no wonder "gay" means "lame" now.
(This caffeine induced rant was the opinion of the poster)
proud and progressive homo - Thu Jun 29 11:42:27 2000

camp is gOOd !! - Thu Jun 29 11:58:27 2000
proud and progressive homo.....here's another one. like I said earlier, face it kids no matter who plays what, what d.j's are selected and which space they play in, will you really be happy? There are some really great d.j' s around this town. It is funny how the french disco house thing is now infiltrating the gay clubs now and that whole gatecrasher thing is ending. Would you believe Im gay and really dont like camp music at all.
Im always exposed to new forms of electronica and it rocks. This town has some excellent d.j s aside from our boys and girls who play the venues. blah blah blah....im bored now. same old same old...............
another walt boy - Thu Jun 29 12:50:10 2000
I gotta agree about the RHI.I think that the Hordern and the Dome should be adequate room to satisfy the needs of the progressive, harder, sexy, dirty styles of music. The party needs an uplifting "happy" not so serious pavilion where the music is lighter and more agreeable to the masses. The RHI has filled this roll for years except for the last 12 months where its been getting more similar to music aimed only at people who are regular clubbing punters thus alienating so many people. The RHI has to cater for the 1000's of boys and girls who D.O.N.T go out every weekend and in some cases it is the only night of the year (except Mardi Gras night) where they actually DO go out.To Glenn Horder and the party commitee.PLease think of this scenario before choosing your DJ's.Return the RHI to its origins and pick DJ's who will play tunes with vocals etc etc.
VocalMania - Thu Jun 29 13:52:25 2000
the RHI DJs will be Quentin Crisp, Julian Clarey and John Michael Howsen. is that camp enough for you ? btw, I thought the music at MG in RHI was hillariously camp.
panties - Thu Jun 29 14:24:20 2000
Maybe they should scrap the boy/girl divisions at the big parties and just have three or four venues each with *completely* differing music styles? Time to move past the sexist divides we have created in our so-called community, and relish our diversity!!!
Thu Jun 29 14:26:14 2000
To,Thu Jun 29 14:26:14 2000, Your comments re the same sex areas as sooooo correct!!! I have alwasys wondered why there have been boys and girls areas.......(which usually become a waste of space) I dont think I know anyone that has parties in one of those areas....?? My bf and I walked through the mens space at Sleaze 98 only to find we had walked right through it - nobody in there!! We want to be equal..?? But not within our own community!! Get rid of the Boys and Girls space and create some new musical experiences. Its all about coming together as a community and partying - why should we have seggregation its not what we are about. But I guess when I re read the Pinkboard some of you do want seggraegation - from str8s at clubs from this from that,,.... blah blah blah - its very boring and quite sad.

I hope Glenn Horder and co brighten up Sleaze a bit...it been a little too dark and deep lately for my liking.Lets camp it up with dj's who can play happy music, not this "plod plod plod, bang bang bang" shit with no vocals.Bring on the camp dj's !!

what is it? a dance party or a sex-on-premises venue? there's plenty of places to go for a fu*k, and who's to say you won't offend someone in the boys only space, anyway? keep it in your pants - or at least in the toilets. lose the same sex areas, they are counter productive to our community!

Confirmed booked blah blah - final show RHI at Sleaze is Evelyn Thomas.
Remenber where you read it first - Fri Jun 30 14:31:01 2000
hey i'm just playing devil's advocate here... no i don't fu*k on the dance floor but is that what dance parties are meant for? my opinion is that the same sex areas at the parties have watered down the quality of the events, when they should be concentrating on providing the best music in the venues provided, instead of catering to a few sex-addicts who get off on public displays, and the misogynists among us who can't share a space with women... why should people like this take prioroty over the majority?
d of e - Fri Jun 30 14:40:04 2000
Because Disgusted of Enmore:The whole concept of public sex at "our" dance parties is steeped in tradition. It was back in the early 80's very well known that public sex took place in the horse stables in the Old Showgrounds, during Mardi Gras and Sleaze ball parties. Then into the late 80's and early 90's it went into the main toilet at the end of the RHI.Slowly but surely over the years this popular practise at dance parties has been eroded away by supplying less attractive places for this activity at a dance party. This activity at MG and Sleaze is as old as you or I,this activity whilst not a majority activity is just as much a part of "the party" as the music the shows the people. The legendary Original Troughman (love him or hate him) and may he rest in peace was the sort of character that gave our parties "Character".He only went to the parties for the back room activities. How hum drum and boringly clinical our parties would be now-a-days if not for the off beat people like him that go in search of the unusual at a party. If D of E ,the purpose of a dance party was just to dance then it would be a very dull night indeed.Expand your horizons I say, and leave the mens only space alone.
SexQuest ! - Fri Jun 30 14:53:14 2000
yeah let's have a separate fat men only space, and an ugly men's space, and a drag queen space and a hairy lesbian space and a muscle-mary-with-bitch-tits space and 20 other separate spaces so we don't have to put up with each other - that must be what Mardi Gras/Sleaze is all about? our community partying *together*???
Fri Jun 30 15:10:51 2000
It was also during the 80s that "public" sex led to the proliferation of H I V. Mardi Gras has a responsibility to ensure that same sex places are safe (totally) or not have them at all.
Fri Jun 30 15:11:53 2000
Oh, and every other party promoter! Note well Ice!
Fri Jun 30 15:12:38 2000
i wonder what bitter twisted person wrote all of the last 3 posts. We all know how to engage in safe sex,we all know what it can lead to if not.I think that topic is well documented. All I am advocating is that the "traditions" that make MG and Sleaze Parties what they are be upheld !!

dear Fri Jun 30 15:11:53 2000, most HIV seroconversions occur in long-term relationships...and most public and anonymous sex is safe!
Fri Jun 30 17:21:11 2000
"They probably deserve" - you are wrong, just to clear that up.
Fri Jun 30 19:06:47 2000
And furthermore, you have clearly misunderstood the point I was trying to get across - not that sex at parties is wrong - but the seggregation of the sexes at parties, which is. As far as i'm concerned you can fu*k all you want on the dancefloor.
d of e - Fri Jun 30 19:09:41 2000
The point of separate spaces is to get rid of the undesirables. Once this is done (say in 2 or 3 yrs time) and they get the message that they aren't welcome and that they can't win, we can go back to some mixed spaces. You can't expect to find any other solution to the problem of undesirables because that would mean that MG would have to let it's members police who that give their tickets to - and as we all know many people in our community would have no problem selling their excess tickets to who ever as long as they got a nice tidy profit.
MG needs to take control again - Fri Jun 30 19:22:37 2000

True. But "unofficial" designated areas for sex at MG & Sleaze Ball has and should continue to be "A Tradition".
SexQuest - Fri Jun 30 20:15:51 2000

And yes, almighty have just completed the remix of the much anticipated 2nd single 'Your Disco Needs You'. It's very 'Definitive', mega camp and quite, quite fantastic. An immense club anthem to be! We're not sure at this stage what Parlophone intend to do with it. It may well not be on the cd single but our mix will see the light of day on the DJ promo 12". The plan is that it will be mailed to DJs very soon. As we said last week, be excited, be very excited! This has the potention to be Kylie Minogues finest moment."

It stuns me that Kylie is number one considering songs from her last album crapped over Spinning Around or whatever its called. Good luck to her as I am sick of handbag Backstreet Boys, Britney etc with all their co-dependent love tracks which celebrate something more evil than smoking; looking to another person to fulfill their needs. And what about that stupid "i'm blue da da dee" I mean it must of taken about ten seconds to come up with such a gem. Also boycott that idiot Emienem or whatever with his homopobic lyrics. Freedom of speech entails responsibilty or at least tolerance. Imagine if the gay community wrote a song saying "I hate hetros, shoot them down, they violate society, toast them brown" We would be jailed within five seconds.

So back to Sleaze Ball - I reckon we should campaign hard on this wall for a harder sound in the Dome. Sveta, Mark Murphy and Mandy Rollins I say. And don't think this wall won't make a difference because it does. It's read by a lot of DJs and promoters, including Glen Horder and other party committee members. Sure, let them have their handbag in the RHI. Just give us the Dome at last, please.

The opinion of the poster - Mon Jul 3 17:13:01 2000
I know that Arq topic is pretty much exhausted, but... following from "str8isgr82 - Thu Jun 29 11:39:09 2000", I'm gay and my friends and I have no problem with you being there. What I do object to are thugs like those we encountered last night (Sunday) - I was at Arq dancing with a buddy who smiled at this guy across the floor (I was dancing with him the whole time - nothing more than a smile happened). Next thing this jerk had come over and was in my buddy's face on the attack, belting out at him "don't smile at me, don't even look at me, I'm not gay" My buddy was pretty shaken, and left the club soon after. It's sad that thugs like these guys (4 of them in a group; they spent the rest of the night staring down guys - most people kept clear of them) should bother hanging around gay guys who are out to party; worse that the Arq bouncers don't seem to have an inkling of who the punters are on the night...
jessy - Mon Jul 3 19:15:34 2000
Dear Jessy, Why didn't you approach Christian or Paul - managers on duty. The bouncers come and go, the managers don't and you can rest assured they will deal with homophobia quickly and swiftly with the support of the bouncers.
Mon Jul 3 19:54:43 2000
Jessy - Sundays is the gay night - you should have said something - its not very hard...
Mon Jul 3 20:59:09 2000
Definitely say something. The club may not be as succesful for us as we would like, but the manmagement and elements of the ownership are trying to make it work, and they need feedback. Just be coherent and straight to the point and you will get a listen. Christian is the best to talk to, if you can get past his oh too cool sarchasm.
Mon Jul 3 22:50:54 2000

Keep the Bastards honest - Tue Jul 4 15:26:44 2000
I am sorry but i am gonna keep up the attack on Arq...(1) GST: I have today telephoned the ACCC informing them of my complaint about the 50 cent overcharge on Saturday nights.Think about it,1500 people thru the door on a saturday at 50cents per head is a clear $750 profit for the greedy selfish blood sucking bastards that run this "pretend" Gay night club....(2) Door and body and/or bag searches: Whilst I believe the whole paranonia surrounding the GBH debate is a serious issue and I "in theory" agree that the thugs parading themselves as bouncers have a right to enquire as to what a patron can or cannot bring into the premises i ask this question....Why was a friend of mine on Sunday night carrying a bag with nothing more in it than the 2 local gay newspapers,a jacket and a bottle of amyl told that he was not allowed in the club unless he threw the bottle of amyl in the provided garbage bin before allowed entry ????? Its not like he had a bag full of e's or a bottle full of GBH on him.Amyl is readily available to buy at numerous shops all over Sydney. This over the top bullying of gay people at Arq is W.R.O.N.G and my complaint will be forwarded to Paul Gillett (manager of Arq) in writing tomorrow.I encourage you all to do the same. This bullshit has to stop and stop now.
AntiArq - Tue Jul 4 17:04:19 2000
If everyone is so put off with Arq's excessive GST door charge, and the constant whinging about how the venue is 'sucking' the gay dollar, why not hit them where it hurts....their pocket?!
Why doesn't the gay community just band together and boycott the place? Pretty simple solution to such a common problem.
versace-vestite - Tue Jul 4 17:18:49 2000
Has anyone else heard the rumour about a possible winter Homo Eclectus party?
versace-vestiteII - Tue Jul 4 17:20:29 2000
AntiARQ you have surfaced again.....so shall I. I really think you have been hard done by this club. To start with, crying over 50 cents at the door is like crying over spilt milk, did anyone notice that all drink prices had gone up in price as well..?? Has anyone worked out if they had all gone up 10%, did some drinks not go up by the whole 10%? Here is a thought, maybe ARQ had put its door price up to $15.50 at the same time the GST was introduced, maybe they are rounding $17.05 down to $17? A "pretend" gay club - look as far as I am aware ARQ has never claimed to be a "gay club", it may have a gay focus and be in the heart of "gayville" but its not a strictly gay club - and, if you do write to Paul, ask him..?? Or maybe the owners..?? Chris and Shad a.k.a the "greedy selfish blood sucking bastards". See what they have to say, whilst your at it ask them about "giving back to the community", I would like to hear what they have to say about your thoughts. Re the door searches, ok, how do security know that it is Amyl, it could be any liquid including GBH. Just becasue it has a label saying Amyl Nitrate doent mean anything, it could be GBH, both smell disgusting and im sure most security guards havent had the chance to put them side by side to compare smells. Its liquid in a bottle - you cant take it into the club. I have heard of a well known dealer trying to take GBH into the club in a 1.25lL Coca-cola bottle, it was disguised at Coke.... please!!! If your friend wants to take the vile substance which is Amyl into the club they should put it in a place security cant check. If you want my opinion you should leave Amyl at home, there is nothing worse than getting a whif of it in a club or even worse some out of it queen spilling it all over the dance floor. The "over the top bullying of gay people" you refer to is a crock of sh*t. As previously written if you dont like the club, dont go and dont get involved. Maybe you should head up a promotional campaign at another club - try and take ARQ on, whilst you at it maybe "home" are "bullying gay people", you could have a go at them as well. I think you should just cawl back under the rock you came from and stay there, the clubs are going to better places without you.

A 50cent over charge might be a drop in the ocean for an individual but when you add up 1500 people being overcharged 50 cents per night for a in pocket profit of $750- that equates to a rip off !! I wouldnt mind having a free $750- in my pocket each week ! Arq should be dragged over the coals by the ACCC over this issue and forced to apologise for being so greedy, and no I have not been hard done by this club as ProArq would say,I simply choose not to go there because of their shoddy business practises and thoughtless uncaring attitude towards the G&L community !

Look let's face it Arq, their choice in management, music, bouncers and general direction is counter productive to most things in the gay community. We don't have to "deal with it and move on..." because it's not our problem, if they can't be bothered to sort themselves out and listen to the people who they want to make money from, then we should just move out en mass to other venues. The Milkbar on Friday nights, and Phoenix on Saturday nights and Sunday mornings are just two places that I can think of where the attitude and music sh*ts all over Arq. Or do something different, go to a straight club, go see Vanessa at the Civic Hotel on a Saturday night, do something other than complaining about Arq every week, and then returning there every weekend, hell why don't you even go to the Imperial??
Can't wait for the Shift to be re-done - Wed Jul 5 12:29:06 2000

same as above - Wed Jul 5 12:33:22 2000
i went to arq sunday night. had a great time. look it' s a business. it' s allegedly a 17 million dollar club. the lights are shiny and fast, the sound thumps you in the chest and head and if you' re out for a good time you know you'll see the sun rise. Im sure pro-arq doesn' t work there, pro-arq probably just has a great time there with friends and as far as i know that' s gst free. I figured this gst thing would only provide more ammunition for pro and cons for the clubbing elite who seem to know it all, yet continue to go to places they dont like, have a bad time, jot down their finer points in their notebook then rush home to post their observations on this board. Arq rocks and i have some excellent nights there with gay and straight friends. i' ve never seen it advertised as a gay club only. These guys are in business. They provide a space for us to go to and have a good time-that' s up to us. how come it' s still $5 on sunday night then if they are so greedy. Surely it should be $7. Oh that' s right sunday is the gay night.??????????so come on....go for our jugular

I hear you can now 'catch' M. Rollins (FARQ and Barracks resident DJ) down at the Phoenix very late on Sunday nights, and from what I hear, she goes off!
This is Mandy Rollins of *those* Janet Jackson rumours, but I hear her latest trick involves spinning more than discs - think about it..
The best in bisexual funky house, is our Mandy!

AntiARQ - I dont work at the club and im not screwing anyone, I just have a great time at a great club. If you had been AntiHome I would have also been on the defense. I just have fun with my friends, both str8 and gay. I pay to get into clubs, pay for my drinks, have lived in Sydney for over 13 years and although I havent clubbed overseas I have seen most of Australia and know that both ARQ and home provide what Sydney needs. I earn good $$ and like to spend it on the weekend, having fun. Without ARQ we would still be going to the shift and bitching about how bad it is, or watching our backs whilst dancing at DCM...... Of course we could go to home, but as we have all found out most queens wont travel. I wonder when the renovations at the Shift finish will there be an AntiShift - im sure there will.
ProARQ - Wed Jul 5 18:56:26 2000
Received a reply today from the ACCC re the 13.33% doorcharge increase at Arq on Saturday nights.I have been asked to supply a written statement and the matter will be appropriately investigated.Keeping the bastards honest !

Sleaze Ball 2000 (129 days to go) - Wed Jul 5 19:16:28 2000
One bad nightclub, hmm.... Shift, Flinders, DCM, EP1, I think there is a list, ARQ is not in the same catagory as these. I think your crusade is a joke. Give up, ARQ can get over 1500 people through the door on a Sat, be busy enough on Sundays to stay open till early Monday morning, and from what I hear Fridays is ok - I dont think its going anywhere.
ProARQ - Wed Jul 5 19:18:07 2000
How does Greg Boladian, Luke Leal then Alex Taylor sound for the RHI?
Wed Jul 5 19:28:12 2000

Wed Jul 5 19:50:33 2000
And what about Rob and John in the Front Room!!!!
Wed Jul 5 19:53:50 2000
One bad nightclub, hmm.... Shift, Flinders, DCM, EP1, I think there is a list, ......none of these are charging 13.33% more cover charge blaming it on the GST.Arq, greedy blood sucking owners DO.Thats why the ACCC will soon be investigating them !

August is shaping up to be "The" month with Frisky on August 5,Arq (oops thats a dirty word around here) having its 1st birthday and Free FM rumoured to be doing another party of sorts.Time to put your pennies away, its gonna be an expensive month !!
August 2000 Party Party Party ! - Thu Jul 6 11:02:43 2000
To have Alex back at Frisky will be fantastic. His music get's you up and keeps you there. I am now really looking forward to the next Frisky.

Born Frisky ! - Thu Jul 6 11:41:14 2000
Why waste Alex in the RHI?
Thu Jul 6 12:40:50 2000
Hello Born Frisky
You are right I only do pop up at Frisky's. I always have such a great time at Frisky, that I like to save myself and not go out too much in between. Now for what I look like, average height, black hair, usually in jeans and dancing on the first level podium. Hope to see you there.
Boogie Boy - Thu Jul 6 13:03:44 2000
hahaha yeah, ok JoJo
Chiclet - Thu Jul 6 13:10:43 2000
I agree Alex shouldn't be in the RHI, it's probably Luke's scene though, but I don't think Greg B should be part of it. That's just my personal opinion on his taste in music.
Thu Jul 6 13:15:46 2000
dear anti-arq....?????
i realise your distaste at the gst increase and also realise now your abhorrence of arq, so why not imagine it never existed and tra-la-la somewhere else. Your opinion is worth something.
Hope you find somewhere wholly gay owned, operated, music-directed, attitude, built, designed, staffed, etc...I think you get the point.
another walt boy - Thu Jul 6 14:40:07 2000
for our frisky dollars $62, can't someone clean the toilets at least once
Thu Jul 6 15:01:15 2000
Dear Chiclet, I am not Jojo, I am just a regular guy who loves Frisky. Why do you think that only the promoter of an event would have nice things to say about it? I wish I was in Jojo's position were I could put on an awesome party once every couple of months, and then live the good life from the profits.
Boogie Boy - Thu Jul 6 15:15:50 2000
JoJo has a party that sells out within hours. He does need (nor I suspect, wants) to promote his party on this board.Pointless exercise !!!!!!!!

Duh Mr Blackwell! It is the old Dendy next door that is under the hammer!
Get it right! Love, Mara Devlin - Thu Jul 6 17:24:37 2000
Possibly so anti-Arq, but yur harping on the subject does tend to suggest a grudge of some kind, and what's more, it's boring. Hey TW, have you heard the Global Dance album yet? Shockin' cover but great music with some great Oz contibutions. Good funky vocal stuff on one CD and deep dark progressive on the other.
EC - Thu Jul 6 19:49:03 2000
Miss Devlin, I hate to admit it, but Mr Blackwell is right on this matter. Metro is soon to R.I.P.

hlg - Fri Jul 7 2:30:28 2000
The Metro's going? What is happening in Sydney? Will there be any decent venues left for promoters? Are the bars and clubs of Oxford St going to be our only choice on a Saturday night? Are we going to return to the bad old days of 1992? It's starting to look very grim for those of us who want an alternative to the likes of Arq etc. Such a shame, because back in April it looked like the party scene was booming with lots of choices, both in parties and venues.
Fri Jul 7 11:15:00 2000
hello is anyone listening!! unlike the rest of the pathic party producers, JoJo knows the basic fundamentals of running a successful party 1. great music 2. great crown 3. great space - its not rocket science however, I'm beging to think it must be. If the Metro was closing why would you think someone like jojo who consistantly pulls of successful parties time and time again wouldnt be across this........and would a venue change really kill frisky ....I dont think its just the venue ....pet!

I've changed my mind guys - in my heart of hearts I secretly believe Arq is okay.
Anti Arq - Fri Jul 7 13:50:39 2000
Jessy - glad you & yr friends don't have a problem with str8s at ARQ. People like the gorillas you refer to are the ones to keep out - nobody else likes them. You find them all over the str8 clubs too, flexing away in hyper-thyroid clumps and carving en masse through flocks of intimidated & bewildered dancers - a rude come-down which my friends also hate. But how do you stop them without banning all patrons with necks > 18 inches? And where would the muscle marys go? =:-0
Let 'em all in I say - and yes, good management should be able to sort out the troublesome ones.
str8isgr82 - Fri Jul 7 13:58:16 2000
I'm glad there are other folks out there who enjoy Frisky. Every time I go I have so much fun!
But for some reason it doesn't seem to get much press.
I guess a regularly sold out party doesn't need much press though.
P.S. Does anyone else get their hair cut on the day they get their Frisky ticket or am I just way to shallow? (There are cute boys in those lines you know.)
Looking forward to Frisky - Fri Jul 7 16:02:06 2000
Anti Arq - Fri Jul 7 13:50:39 2000 THis is ***NOt*** my posting.
Arq is still a blood sucking venue run by people who want to line their pockets with the gay dollar get rich and grow fat,and this is MY opinion !!

I love the tounge in cheek posting above from the Nitegroove team! But I haven't seen a line up for Frisky for months...
Fri Jul 7 17:48:37 2000
Excuse me but I am not "the Nitgroove team". I'm not quite sure if your comment is a passive agressive poke at me or them. Whatever.
I will be seeing cute boys tomorrow when I go to buy my ticket and I'll be having fun at the party. Close your eyes so you don't have to see any of it....and whatever you do don't enjoy yourself, your face might crack.

How about a Fairy Floss Machine in the Front Room Jo Jo? Believe it or not, this was suggested to compliment the good fun theme of the 4th Birthday Party. Imagine the antics that might occur with Fairy Floss....
Fri Jul 7 19:25:24 2000
Let's have more tongues in cheeks at Frisky....
Fri Jul 7 19:32:34 2000
I always thought that fairy floss was a twink in a g-string ? Fwisky has that at every party. anyway ... nobody has told me if Allkins is doing the whole night at arq or not. grrrr ! I'm going to House Solution, but would like to pop up to arq to hear Stephen play some **good** music in the main room
Panties, Mr - Fri Jul 7 21:15:41 2000
"Looking forward to Frisky" - my you are quick to reply on this wall for an "average punter"! You must like Pinkboard as much as we do!
Fri Jul 7 21:47:56 2000
And exactly what is an "average punter"?? Someone who backs down and doesn't participate when people like you decide to pass judgement or make a snide comment intended to intimidate or annoy?
I would consider myself an "under-average punter" in this forum. I come here occasionally - but normally don't post anything because I get turned off by the all too often bitching and passive agressive garbage that people like you are up to.
I was interested to see how a positive discussion would go....and I was glad to find like-minded people who -added- something. You obviously have some other agenda. And you're welcome to it.
I have the most fun with my friends at Frisky than anywhere else. And by the way it sells out, the way it looks on the night and by the way people talk about it afterwards, other people have similar experiences to me. It's great to be able to share that outside of the actual party in a forum like this. :-)
There's nothing weird going on here....except that you're seeing things that aren't there. Whether you like it or not, I'm looking forward to Frisky. It's just that simple. Sorry to disappoint you. I guess this means that you didn't get your hair cut? :-)
Looking forward to Frisky - Sat Jul 8 0:04:53 2000
Sorry to offend, but I am only having a friendly dig. Three postings in 24 hours is more than an occasional visit though, you must admit. :) No did not get my haircut, but I too will be having a good time at Frisky and will no doubt see you somewhere in the crowd, or perhaps behind the lighting desk? ;)
Sat Jul 8 13:01:53 2000
Lets hope Jojo doesn't get all self indulged in himself and try and DJ for 7 hours again at Frisky, I know its meant to be his party but hearing the drone of his music for 7 hours straight gets a tad boring, otherwise its a fantastic party!!
Frisk him down! - Sat Jul 8 14:21:00 2000
I think he wants to have some fun himself at the 4th birthday, hence the choice of Alex as well as Luke. The only way to insert Alex is to take time away from JoJo's set.
Sat Jul 8 14:27:14 2000
to all those who were wondering... I am sure Professor Horder and crew will ensure we have another happening and controversial party for Sleaze. Evidence of this fact is all the overseas people coming all this way to attend both MG and Sleaze.
party on and on - Sat Jul 8 14:51:29 2000
Hmmm... perhaps I'm over-sensitive to a friendly dig. It's so hard to tell in written communication. Oops. :-) Anyway, I'll see you at the party. Under the lights...not behind the lighting desk. :-) Have a good one.
Looking forward to Frisky - Sat Jul 8 15:00:33 2000

I just want him to DJ dressed any way he wants....he was fantastic when he was out here last. I heard him at ARQ and Mardi Gras and had a brilliant time. Did he play anywhere else? And why do you want him to dance naked? Is he cute?

Arq, saturday night. here's the score - *Stephen Allkins: 9.5/10 (he was showing his "commercial side" but compared to the shit the other Djs were churning out, he was still very underground. he was doing what a real dj should do... not just playing the records, but W.0.R.K.I.N.G the tracks ! the b-grade djs of sydney need to watch & learn) *crowd: 4/10 - bloody ugly bastards & fat chicks in lycra -DCM2000 ? oh yeah ! *venue: 4/10. I really dont like Arq. I think it's one of the most badly designed clubs in sydney. I hate those revolving doors and I hate how the sub bass reverberates around the room, knocking your drink off the bar. ummm, what else can I complain about ? .... oh, the filthy dirty toilets ! at 3am, there was a turd floating on the ground in the mens bog. nice ! can I go to bed now ?
mr panties - Mon Jul 10 14:03:52 2000
The crowd didn't seem to be enjoying Alkins. He was having a bad night. 3/10. Too self indulgent. He would be a better choice for a Friday night, or in the Vortex on a Sat, or warm up. He style is never main room, especially at peak hour. A captive drug induced crowd with nowhere else to go.
Mon Jul 10 16:19:40 2000
Oh I'm sorry but ARQ gets 10/10 from me for Saturday night. It had it all: great music, great crowd (until about 7am) and always reliable ex-home & away stars looking more tragic than anyone else.
But yes - the toilets were a disgrace. A jam-packed club charging $17 entry and yet in the downstairs mens room the two of the cubicle doors were broken and one had to push a screw to flush. I don't mind paying the cover charge - but I do mind relieving myself in filth. If they don't do some maintenance soon, I'm sure I could be forgiven for thinking I was in the toilets at the Newtown.

He was very close at times and sometimes even more camp than that! Truly awful. Move the DJs down to the floor so they can see the crowd and not get so into themselves.
Mon Jul 10 22:02:55 2000
Tina Cousins ? no. Trouser Enthusiast ? no. Green Velvet, Armand Van Heldon, Patrick Cowley ? yes yes yes. hooray Stephen ! you're a bitchy old queen, but I love ya.

The state of the toilets at Arq are a worry. Breeding ground for HepA and all sorts of nasties. You can complain to various departments I guess? Management - ha! ha! ha!, South Sydney Council - (Health), Licencing (?), State Health Department . . .
I intend to do all of the above.

Tue Jul 11 13:57:35 2000
Maybe ARQ should have bathroom attendants like home..?? Everytime I have been there the toilets are clean and there is usually a cleaner floating around - then again I have seen him banging on cubicle doors whilst multiple people are engaged in..????
Tue Jul 11 14:05:47 2000
Well i've just sat here and read from top to bottom, and what a sad lot most of you are! Life is so short, enjoy the moment where ever you are/what ever your doing. In a nutshell have "fun",don't worry about the muscle mary on the podium or the girl who did'nt bend over backwards, jump up & down with glee that you have decided to go to their venue??
I have lived & worked in this town/scene for 10 & a bit yrs now and can honestly say you are all spoilt with what is on offer. The choice & styles of music/venues on offer today is fantastic to say the least!
Yes, there are some club owners out there who do the wrong thing, and as someone said a few post's back, the best way to fix the problem is just don't go.Simple! The scene is great, just try something else occasionally and enjoy life before it passes you bye! :)Brett.

One of the important things about Sydney D J's in general (and although this is not all of them most think this way) is that they are happy to play in Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra and other places. I have notice constant visits by great dj's such as Wayne G, Groove Terminator, Dave Chambers, Paul Holden and Ferris play all around Australia. They tend to stay away from cheese so to blame Sydney dj's for crap seems pointless, however, there is no doubt some of the clubs need to play some harder stuff not just disco versions of Aqua, Backstreet Boys or Vengabores.
No Yawn - Wed Jul 12 10:08:24 2000

Wed Jul 12 10:11:52 2000
No Yawn - Wed Jul 12 10:08:24 2000 You are talking jibberish.Your whole posting makes no sense what-so-ever.I simply dont understand what you are trying to say.OH,the statement about wayne G as well.Dont you know that Wayne G is a DJ from London ? Who insinuate he is a Sydney DJ.I'm sorry but if you must make a posting here at least put it together so we can understand what the hell you are trying to say.
Very Confused - Wed Jul 12 10:17:03 2000
To the small minded person who posted the insulting comment,RE:"Svetta now spinning at the Beresford".
Well all i can say is before you go opening your way to big mouth, why don't you come and have another look at the Berry ,cause it's rocking now on Sat/Sun bigger and better than ever!!If you don't like it then that's cool, but please loose the insulting remarks!! :)
Wed Jul 12 11:10:09 2000
No I dont like it at the Beresford and we all know why.Far Far Far too many undesirables that are threatening and realistically deserve to be hanging out at a bar somewhere out in the far western suburbs, may i suggest Rooty Hill RSL for starters ?
Wed Jul 12 11:25:54 2000
Panther, why did you only delete TW's and my messages ? there's plenty of "abusive" posts in here. at least we do it with a bit of panache, not like some of the halfwits that write in here. or is it because we dared to critisise your beloved "Hi-Nrg" ? obviously the rule doesnt apply to everyone. only those that dare to challenge the "norm"

AntiArq - Fri Jul 7 16:02:20 2000 - no - that's not my posting - who is copying my signon? I really have had a change of heart - I think ARQ has improved a lot and I'll be there for Frisky. I'll be the guy with AntiArq tattooed on my forehead (its going to be painful losing it....)
Anti Arq - Wed Jul 12 13:33:30 2000
My oh my, what did you say TW? I'll hazard a guess it had something to do with the attacks on Sveta?
EC - Wed Jul 12 13:35:38 2000
Here I am the ReAL AntiArq and once again the pathetic loser who made a posting today at 13:33:30 2000 is NoT i shall repeat NoT (can i repeat that another dozen times) the original AntiArq that has personally spoken to the ACCC about Arq's door charge hike re the GST,who has also contacted varyious departments about health issues regarding everybodys constant remarks about the disgusting state of the toilets and is the same AntiArq who has not put a foot inside that pathetic establishment for nealy 9 months now.My attitude will never repeat never change until the ownership of this "Wannabee" G&L (partial) nightclub stops as I continually say "sucking the gay and lesbian community dry" and deliberately profiteering from this community by offering what i consider is a nicely layed out club but run by a pack of shoddy, sleazy owners who dont care where or how their dollars come in (as long as the dollars DO come in).As for the pretend AntiArq who made the comments about Frisky, well I dont know what thats all about I have no beef with the Frisky team or their parties in any way shape or form,in fact I just might be going to the Frisky party in August. So dear Mr AntiArq who isnt.Stop crapping on and get your own nickname, until you do I shall call you gutless. There is nothing more infruiating than someone who has an opinion and cant make up their own name and has to copycat someone else.

So . . . what are we all going to wear to Sleaze ?
Devil's Felch - Wed Jul 12 15:32:01 2000
Nothing....if they make sure there's a men sex area ! LOL
Sleaze Ball 2000 (122 days to go) - Wed Jul 12 15:36:41 2000
Diving into the mass of bodies, my heart quickens. Shirt secure in my belt
loop, jeans that hang low showing just a hint of the crack in my bubble butt,
my eyes scan the crowd searching for the first connection. The brunette to my
left allows his gaze to linger for just a second, long enough for me to see the
interest
in his eyes. I slide a finger down his abs, appreciating the taut, smooth skin
made slippery with sweat. He smiles. He touches me back. We move
together, naturally swaying from side to side with the rhythm of the music.
Hips press into place, his hand touches first the small of my back, then
quickly slides down to explore the firmness of my ass. I feel him grow hard
beneath the thin fabric of his plastic disco pants and waste no time – my hand
slides down the front of those pants to discover that he’s not wearing
underwear. He moans softly in my ear as I squeeze the base of his dick. We
perform the mating dance of the Circuit like two experts in this art form.
Instinctively we play out a passionate routine that is almost sex, but isn’t. We both know exactly where the
boundaries lie in this game of conquest, each of us the conqueror, each of us the conquered. After a half an hour
of physical intimacy, we’ve taken things as far as we can on the dance floor. Since it’s far too early to leave the
party, we thank each other for the dance and move on to search for the next new discovery on a dance floor full of
potential mates.
The bliss of dance floor sex was my initial connection to the Circuit. Where else can you have your ego validated a
dozen times by capturing the attention of one hot guy after the next? Is it wrong? Depends on where your morals
lie – for me, if no one is hurt, it can’t be wrong. Is it unhealthy? That depends. For me, it was very unhealthy. The
Circuit’s dance floors were the place where I had the peak experiences of my addiction to sex. For me, it was
unhealthy because it wasn’t just a game. I needed the validation that I was beautiful. My ego fed on the attention I
could get, and when I didn’t succeed in getting the kind of attention I wanted, I became very depressed. For me,
sex with a stranger was a high that I needed at least once a week. If I didn’t get it, a little voice inside my head
began badgering me with questions about whether I was finally getting to be too old to be a hunter on the dance
floor.
Obviously, there are many different kinds of addictions that swirl through the dance floors of the Circuit. Is it as
horrible as Mr. Signorile and Mr. Sullivan would have us believe? I think not. There is another side to the dilemma
of addiction that these shrill critics don’t understand.
As I fight my way back from my addictions, I sometimes wonder how my life got turned around in this way. I
remember having a great childhood, loving parents, and no known addictive behaviors in a very large family tree.
Yet here I sit, with addictions to at least one substance and a fading, but once major, addiction to sex. How did it
happen to me?
I now realize that addictions and compulsive behaviors are created by the desire for a connection to the realm of
spirit. Because of the tremendous change brought about in society by the technological advances of the West, we
have become so very disconnected from our spiritual selves. The religions that are supposed to provide us a
spiritual connection have themselves become so wrapped in dogma that they rarely allow a personal connection to
God. Instead, these religions spoon-feed the masses a laundry list of thou-shalt commandments – a poor
substitute for true spirituality. I’ve always had a strong desire to understand my purpose in life. Why am I here?
What is the point? These questions left me with a large void deep in my soul. For a time, the drugs and the sex
seemed to fill that void. Only after years of applying this balm to my soul did I realize that this band-aid I was
applying to my void was only covering the surface of a wound that grew more deeply infected with each passing
year.
What if I’d instead been a God-fearing Christian who maintained a committed monogamous relationship? What if
my life consisted of working my nine-to-five job and coming home and watching T.V.? What if I’d never
encountered the turmoil of the extreme behaviors that darkened my life in those years when the Circuit was all
about addiction? If this had been my life, I don’t think I’d ever have found my purpose. I never would have had the
joy of discovering that I could overcome the addictive behaviors that all but ruled my life for many years. I never
would have found my own personal connection to the divine – a connection which is actually present on those
same dance floors where I once was so lost.
Blessed be the addicted, for they are the ones that know the void within. Though they may have to hit bottom
before they begin the process of true self-discovery, they are nonetheless on a spiritual path. Some of them may
never get to the other side of the mountain of compulsion that lies in the path of their journey. But those that get
the chance to see the sun rise on the other side of that mountain will know that all of the pain was worth this
glimpse into eternity.
Camp Is Good ! - Wed Jul 12 16:32:06 2000
Oh Dear.I read the last posting with interest for about the first dozen or so lines and then realized it wasnt going anywhere so i gave up.

Chiclet - Wed Jul 12 17:58:42 2000
This is the last time i am going to waste my time responging to the moron who obviously knows nothing about the Beresford!
Allow me to set the record "straight",to coin a frase you like to use so freely!!!!
1. The Beresford is gay owned, gay run,we have gay and lesbian dj's,for god sake we even have the fabulous Michelle (Manageress),who keeps us all in line who just happens to be transexual!!
2.The majority of the crowd is gay most of the time,it happens to be illegal to discriminate remember !!!
3. At the first sign of trouble our extremely gay friendly security fixes the problem,of which i have seen very few?.You obviously have not been here for some time. Please give it another go,come up and say hello to me and i'll bye you a drink and listen to what ever you have to say.My name is Brett Loi-Dj.
Wed Jul 12 18:11:23 2000
Please note that the posting dated Wed Jul 12 16:32:06 2000 by Camp is Good is not the Original Camp is gOOd.Note the original Camp is gOOD is spelt g,Capital O,Capital O,d.
I in no way understand the ranting and raving of the person who recently posting his apparent life story under the nick "camp is good".I on the other hand only ever talk about how good it is top hear girly music in clubs and dance parties,so please do not confuse me with this imposter.Gee,there is alot of this impostering going on at the moment, dont people have minds of there own instead of trying to steal other peoples nicks ?
camp is gOOd !! - Wed Jul 12 19:18:57 2000
Dear Panther,Shouldnt there be a limit to the number of words you can post. That dribble above by "camp is good" has nothing to do with the topic of this wall. Its doubtful that he typed it all in and he has just simply cut n pasted it from somewhere else (I estimate it to be nearly 1,200 words). It takes up far too much space on a wall already filled with far too much junk !

laveyaworkbretturock - Wed Jul 12 22:44:23 2000
yeah, nice work "Camp Is Good" but maybe you should try the short story wall ?
mr panties - Wed Jul 12 23:07:12 2000
Another few facts about the Beresford:
1. Not too long ago, someone was murdered there.
2. When visiting it a few months ago, we heard a group of crims discussing 'what they'd done' with a guy who they'd taken for a drive.
3. Some things are just bleeding obvious.
4. Would the Beresford supporter care to explain away these things ?
Wed Jul 12 23:25:55 2000
Did Mr Panties say the short story wall.My God,the bible is shorter than the story in question ! LOL
Wed Jul 12 23:26:33 2000
To the poster dated Wed Jul 12 23:25:55 2000.I Totally agree with you about the unsavoury aspects of the beresford hotel. However the person who is on this board supporting the venue as he signed off, is one of the dj's there. Its obvious that as a staff member he will do everything to paint a rosey picture of the establishment.Makes sense to me even though I dont support his comments.
A>D - Wed Jul 12 23:53:32 2000
This is the opinion of the poster.
There was a person murdered at the Forrester last year too. It is still packed every single Friday. I am sure you can overhear saucy conversations anywhere. If you can prove they are criminals, then the police is the place to go. It is also possible that the person who posted the against arguments is staff of a competing venue, or a DJ who was rejected for employment by the Beresford.
Thu Jul 13 9:30:24 2000
Re the above posting: True, but Highly unlikely !
Thu Jul 13 10:22:06 2000
Yeah i gotta agree.I think that there would be 100's of normal punters who would have misgivings about the beresford before you would find a disgrunted ex staff member or dj complaining about that place. The sums dont add up.
A>D - Thu Jul 13 11:00:16 2000
ok,sleaze ball selection is rumoured to be next monday night. What bag of goodies (but i suspect baddies) has mr Horder and co got lined up for us this year.No dont another party including 10 hours of DJ's playing bang bang bang ear bleeding crap !!

Panties bang bang bang - Thu Jul 13 11:59:27 2000
I'm not an ex-employee or rejected DJ from the Beresford, but I wouldnt feel comfortable going there anymore. it now reminds me of the Burbon & Beefsteak or the Mansions up the Cross. the only queer thing about this pub is the location.
Thu Jul 13 12:02:41 2000
Panties goes bang bang bang in the delta quadrant and thats where it should stay. When you do listen to your bang bang bang panties do you clean out the blood from your ears when you get home or is your hearing completely shot !!

Panther: Its becoming ever increasingly obvious that this board is being abused more and more. From a time ages ago when most posts had something of "content" to say we have fallen away to a board that has no relevance anymore due to the crap and bitchy comments that serve nobody any good whatsoever.Rarely do we get a discussion on a topic going, the last being the G debate.I challenge Panther to set down new guidelines for this board.Any posting that has no particular point to make or subject matter should be D.E.L.E.T.E.D ! For example I draw Panthers attention to most of the postings made today Thursday 13/7/00 which are frivilous and have no substance to them.
Very Bored - Thu Jul 13 15:55:34 2000

To Very Confused. I know Dave Chambers and Wayne G are London DJ's my point is they don't go "oh yuk I am not playing in morbid Melbourne, boring Brisbane or awful Adelaide." Unlike some Sydney dance artists and dj's they do know Australia is not made up of just Sydney. Money may talk but a weekend away from your Olympic City does them the world of good.
Thu Jul 13 19:10:05 2000
EC: I can't tell you what I said because Panther will delete it. I didn't think it was so bad. Just a comment about Camp is Goods' taste in music.

Thu Jul 13 21:41:57 2000 leave them Alone they are doing a fine job, in fact the best job in over ten years. Get over it or run for the board your self. Glenn Horder has the artist direction and finger on the pulse of what is really happening in our community. If you don't like it then run against him at the upcoming elections and then lets all see how many votes you get! (Spoken with Rose Hill Race commentator voice) "In first place coming up on the inside, wearing lucky violet 7, is the finest filly in all OZ, ridden by Audrey, the new jockey on the block".
Crowd cheers and rush off to the Tab to cash winnings.
Sorry I am not a gambling man back the winner Audrey. - Fri Jul 14 14:52:22 2000
I agree, Glenn's done the best job in years! I mean he brought out Wayne G & Victor Calderone, while his predecessor brought out Warren Y(gl)uck. Where's the comparison there?
Fri Jul 14 17:43:01 2000
Fri Jul 14 12:34:05 2000: since you don't like the music in the Dome, why worry about the temperature? Aren't the other halls enough for you?

Swarm? No thanks, I'll stick to DJs I know (the ones that get to play frequently), guaranteed people in attendance, and a licenced venue. In the end, you get what you pay for. However if I was straight and travelling from Bankstown... You may have enjoyed the last Swarm but I think you and I were the only ones there. And the venue is jinxed.
Sat Jul 15 19:00:53 2000
Dear Swarm, there are lots of things happening that night, including Tim Berry's 40th. You shouldn't be picking on one party in your promotions, it would have worked a lot better if you didn't make reference to the other events at all.
Sat Jul 15 19:13:09 2000
Sorry I forgot to sign my message re: Swarm, above. I am not associated at all with the organisers of this event. If you refer to my earlier posts you will see I prefer the harder styles and definitely not the attitude that predominates most "gay" parties. I only mentioned Ice as it is the same night, and Swarm will provide a very alternative alternative indeed. Who the hell is Tim Berry?

Mon Jul 17 21:43:33 2000
I hate Perry Como too - I think he's been exploiting the gay community for years, and we should all be listening to Linda Ronstadt instead. (And he's probably ripping us off on the GST.)

Perry - Tue Jul 18 14:01:49 2000
Dear Miss Knickers, yes I go to kooky! When I emerged from my teenage closet, kooky was the only place I felt totally comfortable, and learnt that there was a rich vibrant society \
going on outside the hinrg and hard house of Sydney. This is the only place that new queer bands will get a break (step up Friendly, Biftek, Itchee and Scratchee, Coda, alterboy, Pavo Cristatus and the rest!) Kooky has been an inspiration and a gig to many of the countrys performance artists too. ## haPpY BiRtHdAy kOoKy! ## Without you Sydney would not be the same. Keep breaking stereotypes and giving queer artists a go (in a world of amorossi's we need you!) Keep on kooking!

I refer to the Anti Arq posting 3 posts back.Isnt it sad and pathetic how people havent got the brains or the imagination or the balls to create their own nicknames.Go jump in the river will ya.
Anti Arq (the real one) - Tue Jul 18 17:57:29 2000
It is unlike me to write in support of ARQ (I always abstain altogether), but consider that they do try to keep it gay when they have the option of making it totally straight, full of big drinking crowds and WILD FM music every night... Money is the obvious prime motive in a club of that size and stature but at least the best club an Oxford Street is kind of our's! Keep the alternatives alive though - we need choices.
Mara Devlin - Tue Jul 18 20:00:36 2000
Arq allways plays WildFM music
Tue Jul 18 22:40:46 2000
wildfm-freefm.........................I thought they were one and the same.
Wed Jul 19 11:55:33 2000
Not according to a thorough Media Watch investigation, which proved Free FM totally unrelated to Wild and Central Station and Wild in trouble for profiteering and Free clean as a whistle! You would not hear Nick Skitz remixes at ARQ. Or Vengaboys (much).
Wed Jul 19 12:13:58 2000
music used to be categorised into definitive areas such as pop, rock, western, etc.......now with dance music being so huge it has become electronica.....and within that there is hi-nrg, nu-nrg, nu-disco, french house(been and done), nu-groove, deep house, drum 'n bass, tech-house, epic-trance(think arq)and the list goes on....oh and sorry, handbag...i.e....vocally rich songs inciting crowds to behaviour such as throwing hands in the air, screaming in joy and loosing oneself in gay abandon.
Whatever your beats...be they hard, soft or experimental remember this.
"...if it moves the heart...the feet will follow.."
Wed Jul 19 12:16:59 2000
a station such as radiodex although not "gay" is by far the most diverse of it' s kind. I just think wild and free are too similar. Outfm is also in the same arena as dex...breaking away from a 24 hour max dance party type thing.
know what i mean

Oh Shit Oh Shit Oh Shit. You people are gonna get into big trouble trying to debate the pro's and con's of free fm and wild fm on this graffitti wall.Panther has banned this topic and if you cant remember just look at this which is what panther wrote when he shut down graffitti wall number 8 .....quote...."To all the people who posted messages on this wall about the radio debate Learn To Read. You have now spoilt it for everyone else as this wall will now be closed for at least a week. You have already forced the wall about the real debate to be closed and removed.
This is supposed to be a community resource. When you take it over for your own petty games you spoil it for everyone else. Learn to share community resources rather than abusing them.
I am so sick of this abuse that I think it is time for a real threat: If any of you start this "debate" on any other walls I will take action such as publishing your details and even blocking you. You have been warned. And you have spoilt yet another evening for me. Satisfied?
To the legitimate posters, I apologise for the interruptions.
Panther.
Come on Guys dont ruin it and stop the radio debate,we dont want to give Panther "another" heart attack !!!!
A>D - Wed Jul 19 12:50:17 2000
Panther's objection was re OUT vs Free, an argument which had nothing to do with music really. This is just pointing out the type of music played in clubs vs what is played on the radio, and the different music styles of stations, those mentioned playing dance music which is relevant to this board.. It is not intended to bring up THAT debate again. Perhaps Panther can make a ruling when he gets back from work?

Farq me! 5 years of club kooky? Go go kookykids. Thank you for your perserverance against all the conservative powers that control gay Sydney (we know who). Gay, Lesbian and queer artists have had a weekly home to strut their thang, when noone or nowhere else would have given them a go. The 3 kooky compilation cds in my collection are a true document of Australain queer music - something that has never been done before. The georgeous girls from Biftek playing live tomorrow is a truly special present!.!! Go Seymour Butz go Dj Gemma Go Groovii Biscuit! Keep Sydney Kooky.
happy bithday club kooky - Wed Jul 19 15:13:06 2000

Sydney is really lucky to have its clubs like Home, Gas, Arq, Shift, etc and dozens of excellent smaller bars and all of its ocean & harbour beaches and its big parties like MardiGras & Sleaze & Frisky & Hand in Hand & Inquisition & Pride, and it's Parade & Festivals, as well as gay radio stations, gay local newspapers, and a gay notice board like this one. What's really best though is that it has a community with a strong and passionate sense of "ownership" in that community, reflected here in the heated exchanges about all of these incredible aspects of this absoloutely incredible city. Argue about it, get involved, immerse yourself in it, change things about it, but never, never take it for granted. You live in a wondrous city in a wondrous time and around any corner it waits to surprise you again...Peace

I think Free Fm's only relationship with Wild was they rented the studio facilities operated by the Manager of Wild - who, incidentally, has been making a very tidy profit. I hope that whichever stations gain the fulltime licences go their own way for that very reason. Personally I'd rather listen to a wide variety of styles than be stuck with handbag 24/7, so I have supported both Dex and Out, in the same way I support parties that play the music I like, such as Homo Eclectus and S*W*A*R*M. I have a taste for the alternative, and find that others who feel this way are much less inclined to be judgemental of others. Don't forget to hug someone this weekend! (and maybe more)
pph - Wed Jul 19 19:24:05 2000
I hope panther shuts this wall down again as punishment to you I*D*I*O*T*S that ignore his rules.Stop taking Panther forgranted. This wall is his creation and as such he deserves some repect. You turds that continue to rant on about wild/free/community radio when it has been banned from discussion show no class whatsoever and all you are doing is rubbing shit in poor panthers nose.
Total lack of respect - Wed Jul 19 19:55:59 2000
It must be hard trying to please all you multi-talented people out there that can throw dance parties, run nightclubs and play only the best music - how about shutting up and letting them get on with it!
Greek God.. - Wed Jul 19 19:56:35 2000
Why have a hissy fit because someone posts about community radio? get over it! Panther should shut this board down if anyone bitches about Arq ever again, at least some have something more interesting to say.

dear "camp is good" perhaps one of these days you will develop some taste.

The Free/Out debate degenerated into people hurling abuse and possibly libelous comments at each other. I will stop this one if it degenerates that far. If you have a favourite community radio station (2SER) then talk about it's good points or what it does well. If you hate one in particular, then write to the ABA.

At the risk of being flamed again - don't forget S*W*A*R*M tomorrow night (Sat) at 61 Regent Street. Check out some hard ass techno sounds with a friendly mixed crowd. It's the real alternative for real alternative types. And you can take your e's any damn time you want! hahaha, only kidding, I think we can all have a big smiley hair strokin' neck rubbin' time without drugs. But it wouldn't be half as much fun... :^) Hope to see a few more gay boys down there!

So what is the lineup for Sleaze and are tickets on sale yet?
Fri Jul 21 16:17:47 2000
I think that the whole radio debate is a bit done. I have heard that BBC Radio 1 has paid for the 96.9 Licence. They own it and unfortunately it wont be a community station. Apparently the people behind Radio Dex etc are aware but are still testing as they are hoping to get a 2nd chance.Im yet to find out if Radio 1 are going to set up shop in Sydney or just send us what they do in the UK.
hlg - Fri Jul 21 19:46:57 2000
The 96.9fm frequency was sold for $155m. There are three community licences up for grabs and with any luck they'll put us out of our misery (or not, depending on the outcome) by the end of the year.
pph - Fri Jul 21 19:54:41 2000
i hear the dj lineup for sleaze should please more people than not and yes the tickets are on sale

I cannot believe the way in which they just switched the Oxford over to a revolting, straight poker machine filled pub. Surely its gay patrons at least deserved an opportunity to give it a big good bye. The bastards responsible should never be forgiven. If he did its madness !!!!
Check My hearing - Sun Jul 23 18:11:26 2000
Yes Paul did play right through! It was the official ICE Recovery, and there were too many wired ICE people to fit downstairs, so upstairs became the recovery. Woo, what a night!
Sun Jul 23 19:54:29 2000
12 hours of paul goodyear.I'd prefer root canal treatment before allowing that happening to me again.
Sun Jul 23 23:45:37 2000
Unlike root canal, you can always leave.
Mon Jul 24 8:45:14 2000

What does the above comment mean?? I'm a bit confused in it's meaning. Personally I think Baby Bear has excellent taste in music, and is a great DJ.
Mon Jul 24 14:11:23 2000
Its just some attitude riddled queen poking fun at Baby Bears looks and i find the whole concept of somebody poking fun at a dj because of their looks quite offensive. If you dont like his/her music thats fine.Personally I find Baby Bears Music to be total crap but you wouldnt find me poking fun at his appearance on here.Thats just not on ! I expect the offensive remark above to be removed from this wall.
Grow Up and Get some Manners - Mon Jul 24 16:00:23 2000
re Paul Goodyear and a twelve hour shift - get off your high horses. At least in a twelve hour shift, you should get to hear what you want - and downstairs was open till quite late in the morning anyway with Mandy Rollins. 12 Hours is legend stuff - most DJs would find it hard to play for that long taking into account tiredness and music available. Only older stalwarts like Paul can achieve this.
Mon Jul 24 16:02:37 2000
www.clubthings.com - Thu Jul 20 12:28:12 2000 - May I say that you have no taste!! In music or your taste for David Knapp. This taste sensation must involve the anal craving.
try reachin records next time you shop! - Mon Jul 24 16:31:24 2000
How much Eurotrance can you stand in 12 hours? Baby Bear crap? OWell, I guess if you think Tina Cousins is God's gift to music you might think that.
Mon Jul 24 18:17:33 2000
Congratulations ICE on the party of the year! You sold out, had a great looking party hard crowd screaming for more on both levels at close, filling ARQ until the bar staff's max 12 hour shift expired at 11am, unheard of at ARQ for normal Sundays. Something was very very right with that party! Please don't let it be the last!!
Mon Jul 24 21:28:03 2000
to whomever commented on Baby Bears looks, show me your pic & I'll decide if you're model material. slag off his music if you need to, but you have NO right to judge his apearance.
Ula Sinclair - Mon Jul 24 23:48:04 2000
can't see what was said about Baby Bear's looks, its been removed, besides, I don't know what he looks like. But have any of you offended by that comment been at a news stand recently. New Idea NW Who??? ring a bell. He's a public figure, it goes with the patch. Ask anyone who makes money from their name. grow up.
Tue Jul 25 8:48:19 2000
I missed ARQs 12 hour Saturday gig, but was there on Friday night - and how things have improved! Even the toilets were clean. But I must register my dissatisfaction with the increase in the price of the water - $4.50 for 175ml?! What a rip-off - I suppose its GST related (not!). And I found a patch of algae on the underside of the left-hand tap in the ladies.
Anti Arq - Tue Jul 25 9:15:30 2000
Well that would be why I was confused by the comment re Baby Bear, because it was about him and not his music, but I should have realised that if a comment like that is being said by someone in this community it had to be a personnel attack and not a professional one. Probably some other Arq dj feeling insecure and this is the only level he could attack on.
Tue Jul 25 9:33:00 2000

But, really it's extraordinary the way fags & dykes do come together here in Sydney, and not just for annual marches. Unlike the worlds other big queer cities, coalitionism here is more than just a big word for banners. It's practiced in the queer media, like the Star & OutFm, in organisations like MG,Pride,Leather Pride,Rights Lobby &AVP,and it's practiced, and perfected, at barbecues, and beaches, and dinner parties and on dancefloors to the frequent astonishment of gay overseas visitors, whose knowledge of lesbians they aren't related to is often, at best, theoretic. In Sydney we've known for decades what the world has only just been discovering- that dykes are fierce, and filthy and funny and family. And when things got so scary, in the 80's with AIDS, it was the dykes of this city who were first to our sides, and who kept Mardi Gras going, when so many had died, & who ran and helped us to run things like the Trust&BGF&ACON... I think it was then that so many of us realised that the L in SGLMG was more than politically correct or polite, or whatever - it was true. And not just for parties, or parades once a year, but in good times & bad, in the place that we live, we are family and we are proud of eachother. What we have here is beyond rare, its unique in the world. We should teach it to everyone else. Call it Community 101,with honours, Peace.

Dear AntiARQ (The real one) - I must confess to being AntiARQ (the Unreal One). While it was childish to appropriate your tag I couldn't resist - your peevish diatribe against ARQ needed some redress and ProARQ has retired hurt (bored more like) from the fray. I promise not to do it again - as long as you promise to get off this tiresome hobby-horse of yours - as you haven't been there for 10 months how can you possibly claim to have any 1st hand knowledge of what is going on at ARQ at present?

Isnt it amazing how Arq have decided to be charging in excess of $30 (i cant remember the exact amount) for their 1st birthday next saturday yet Free Fm can do a Dance party at a club that is the equivalent of Arq in set-up and decoy for only $20 !! Now who of these two groups do you think is not trying to rip us off ?

Sat Jul 29 16:15:06 2000
Why ? Free FM are doing the right thing by putting on an event that looks good on paper for a great price.Arq are just having another Saturday night but charging double.Wheres the logic in that ?
Just another Saturday night at Arq with a 100%+ price hike - Sat Jul 29 17:15:51 2000
What vehicle can i use to take down ARQ ? Any suggestions ? I've got this bulldozer in the back yard, that should do the trick !!
shift bar opening soon !! - Sat Jul 29 18:38:30 2000
umm.....for as far as I have heard ARQ are offereing 10 DJs over two floors and 2, yes 2 live shows...... with an international flair...???? The $30 will definately be worth it!! - Yes im still here just have no time for AntiARQ - bored!!!
ProARQ - Sat Jul 29 19:52:36 2000
I am not necessarily pro ARQ but the price hike will ensure that only the people who really want to be there will be, and hopefully exclude the normal Sat night crowd. A lot of effort has been put into the night and if people don't see it as value for money, they simply won't go. I say the place will be packed with people determined to party, and that is worth $30 or whatever for a night with hopefully an exceptional energy.
Mara Devlin - Sat Jul 29 20:43:14 2000
umm.....for as far as I have heard ARQ are offereing 10 DJs over two floors (Reply) So what,10 dj's cant be stretched any further than 1 DJ can during a night, and the total DJ salary wont be any different just divided by more heads**********Next******2 live shows...... with an international flair...? ProArq,enjoy your night, and enjoy filling arq's bank account - Sat Jul 29 21:38:07 2000
Multiple DJs don't enhance over 1 DJ in a night? You have no idea. You really need to go out to some dance parties and find out what a mix of DJs can do, when each one is fresh and hungry.
Sat Jul 29 23:28:58 2000
Unless, of course, the 2 hour shifts mean that no dj gets a chance to do anything more than max-out, often playing the same hotly desired hits in every set because there's no time for a journey, just a fleeting impression. Promoters love mega-multiple dj's.Lotsa names look good on a poster!!! dj's & dancefloors are frequently somewhat less enthused. What you're calling fresh & hungry can more often be described as rushed & angry...

I'll go along with that last posting.I bet with 5 DJ's crammed into 10-12 hours on arq's birthday night on the top level you hear at least a dozen popular songs played 2,3,4 or heaven forbid 5 times in the night ! Wouldnt it be grand to hear the latest Chicane or Angelli and Nelson played on multiple occassions within 10 hours. Please take the needle off the record, off the record, off the record, off the record, off the record, off the record, off the record, off the record, off the record, off the record, off the record, off the record, off the record, off the record, off the record, off the record, off the record, off the record, off the record, off the record, off the record, off the record, off the record, off the record, off the record, off the record, scratchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!
Thank you !!!

if you are really so concerned with the amount of times a particular song gets played in one night, then maybe you need to try other drugs as the ones you are using obviously are not doing the job.
Sun Jul 30 9:57:32 2000
oh i know what you mean, i can hardly ever remember what song has been played, let alone how many times it has been played. (turning to the guy i met last night) what was your name again...

play the record again and againa and again and again and again - Sun Jul 30 11:51:19 2000
ProARQ - Sat Jul 29 19:52:36 2000 .You must Kidding ! I cant agree with you.I am just about a weekly patron at Arq and i love it there however the 1st birthday has no interest for me whatsoever, and I simply dont know what I am going to do on that night now that my familiar surroundings of a Saturday night at Arq on August 12 are being tampered with. ARQ is charging $33 for you to go there on a normal saturday night to hear 5 dj's on each level that will in all likelihood be batteling against each other in an effort to try to out-do each other by playing hit after hit after hit (thus causing the repeating tracks dilema). On top of that you say there are 2 international live performers.Well sweety, you havent read capital Q this week have you ? What do you get for your 100% price hike at arq on this night ? You get Christine Anu live.Oh pleeeease, spare me.You get Portia Turbo hosting the night (another interruption to the music).Debut performance by quote "sensational new dance diva KM" (who???).You also get debut dance performance by quote "hot new group Jube Star" (Who???).You get a show by Nova. What international acts ????
What value am I going to get for $33 there ? Those debut acts should be paying us for the privlidge of performing (well not quite, but you know what i mean). It seems the night is going to be one big stop start affair. How totally and utterly annoying. If you think $33 is good value for a night like that well go right ahead,be my guest, throw your money away.Me,I'll wait for Free Fm's party on august 20 thank you very much.
A very disapponted Arq Boy - Sun Jul 30 12:36:53 2000
The DJs on the night have far too much respect for each other to make it compeitive, but if they do try to outdo each other it can only be good. If they play the same hits over and over with no sense of journey, then the night has not been planend well. The sense of journey must be incorpoated into their briefs (so to speak!), as any good promoter will know.
Sun Jul 30 13:22:56 2000
So, competition would be disrespectful, therefore bad,but outdoing eachother 'can only be good', unless it's repetitive, then it's bad again, but if they've been briefed, it'll be good, unless the promoter is bad, and then it's bad again. Right. Thanks for clearing that up.
