Obviously this message board has been taken over by 'political poofta' fanatics (ie 78er, Keanu, etc) I can't believe your attitude you guys. Do you ever step outside Oxford St??? My God.... Well I hope you have a good time anyway. I certainly will and I won't be looking for any of you - just all the other fantastic people out for a good time - people who concentrate on the positive, not on their victim mentality.

As usual the showtimes & artists have been leaked. The party committee will again be blamed. Mardi Gras should look their board & maktg dept. I'm sure a press release has been sent from MG to all press re: performers. They love their coverage, no matter where or what it appears in. Perfect example is the 'behind the scene's, backstage' shots of Dannii & Kylie last year. And what about the live cross overs to Home for that dull Satelite Party. I don't wish to have bunch of straights watch me dance & play with my friends. It's bad enough we have to put up with the bimbos with back packs & their thick as two bricks egotistic steroids boyfriends that frequent DCMs. Rumour has it that Kylie may be appearing at the Rainbow Party for $20,000 for 1 song! Good on ya Dawn! mardi Gras should have just let you use the title Mardi Gras. It's not there's, they haven't even registered it! By the way Jimmy is performing You make me feel Mighty real! I suggest that if all you guys are that pissed about Jimmy & Dannii, you write letters to the papers, party committee, President & bring it up at the AGM! Probably by then, the fuss will be forgotten about. I also doubt that Jimmy will be outing himself! He's ahappily married guy with kids & has been going to our parties for years. He normally hangs in the Dyke Bar with wife! Charming!

'wakey wakey', So I take it that it's OK to discriminate in '99. I take it that it's OK to promote straight artists at our community's expense in '99, I take it that it's fine to advertise straight artists apearing at our parties so that our community can be persecuted for subsuming them to our 'way of thinking'. I take it that it's OK for people walk all over that which was bought for you with sweat and blood. I take it that as you get older it's OK to ignore those on whose backs your freedom was bought. Yes, it *is* 1999, and I would expect that 21 years after *we* won *your* freedom, that you may be a little more grateful and understanding of our communities history.

'Live outside the triangle'. Just some facts. I sleep with men, yes. I *live* outside of Oxford Street. I visit there once a week. My attitude is in direct relation to that which has been heaped upon us by an unthinking so-called 'representative' organisation which is content to sell our culture out without even giving us the decency of a consultation. *I* will be having a good time at the Mardi Gras party, but *I* will not be forgetting the lead-up issues, the sell-outs, the discrimination, the insults to our scarifices, and the narrow-minded view that has permiated the organisation which is supposed to represent us. I will (however) be enjoying the party, just not the politics which formed portions thereof.

Hey 78er - everyone appreciates what you did back in 1978 but please don't pretend that was the only thing which gave me (or anyone else) freedom. I think what that person was trying to say was you have to get rid of the us and them mentality. Obviously you feel part of something (ie the 78 MG) but at some stage you have to let go of that and deal with other FAR more important issues than who's playing at the party... Anyway have a great Mardi Gras

11.15am Sunday morning. Thank you thank you thank you Luke Leal for making 2am til 6am in the Hordern fan f**king tastic. Now off to recoveries.
Technowarrior - Sun Feb 28 11:18:01 1999 |
Well, the BF and I think it was one of the best, and lasted tothe end. Not too crowded, with the many other alternative parties it was not noticeably full of "Bimbo+Muscle Mary" types.
The shows were good, but Jimmy Barnes? In one way what else has he ever done for the community. But we both agree he put on a good show, thanked us for letting him share the party, he's been going to the parties for years, and he has to start with the community somewhere - and where better than at a SGLMG Party.
Music was good, shows were good, lights were fabby, and a lot of friendly people in the spirit of "Happy Mardi Gras", what else could you want?
Newtown Boys - Sun Feb 28 15:28:46 1999 |
Well so much to say and so few functioning neurons to help me. I had an absolute ball, one of my favourite parties. The lighting in the hordern was awesome and the RHI wasn't shabby either. The music: Luke Leal, you are a genius. A fantastic set. I am one who loves both the Hordern and RHI styles, hence the following comment. Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou Warren Gluck. That was one of the great sets (for me anyway).I know that he copped alot of flack on this wall in the last few weeks, but he left me with an amazing party experience. When I looked around the RHI at about 8:30 am and saw so many hands in the air with massive smiles attached, I knew I was part of something really special. The fact that so many people came onto the floor during the "British Airways" tune is testament to what you did. Who could deny enjoying Atomic, Echo Beach ,Believe (great trancy mix), Pop goes the weasel, Perfect day, Read my mind etc. Can't beat something you can sing along to when the body is a little tired.
Well Sleepless, we didn't meet up again, but our rendevous point at said time wasn't easy due to the shows. I looked around for a pink triangle on a butt, but (?) couldn't find one. Thought of you during Warren G's set as I felt that is what you enjoy. Hope you got the music you were after and had a great time without the b/f.
The shows. Well you can put it down to great accessories on the night, but I enjoyed the shows more than I thought I would. I know there are major issues over Danni and Jimmy that need to be sorted out for harmony but the music itself was fun (though a bit too much squealing JB). I try and get a positive from everything. The message I'm focussing on for now is that if one of Jimmy's regular fan base that is homophobic sits up and sees that it is OK to party, have gay friends and support the community, then it is a step in the right direction. I do feel however that at such an event with 4 shows, maybe 1 such performance along with three from inside the community. On that note, well done Erin. I didn't catch the last show, but since all the gossip was pretty spot on from a few here, I'll presume it was Marcia. Please let me know if I'm wrong. Lastly, on being wrong, I wrote on one of the previous walls thatI thought there would be as much chance of JB playing at the party as me dancing with fred nile (doesn't deserve capitals)with a little brown bottle up his nose. Well,I was off the mark and can say thatwhen I last saw fred, he was doing the trough man thing after ODing on liquid paper thinner. The sound in the RHI seemed to go off every now and again, and this really showed up during the JB show.
I enjoyed meeting a whole new range of people and continue to be proud to have such wonderful g+l friends. Hell, I kissed so many men last night, most were suprised at my sexuality and I even committed a possible mortal sin according to some, by having a quick dance with the pres.
Well time to get back to the real world. The wife says I look like shit at the moment and suggests some bed rest. I'll take up the advice, just after I look through my little Kaleidoscope at the ceiling lights one more time and check out the Simpsons as it is the John Waters gay episode.
Keep the smiles on and if you didn't like something, please voice it in at the AGM rather than straight out bitching.
Panther, the pleasure was all mine once again.
Goodnight

The party was very very fabulous. One of the best i've been to (and thats a lot).It was better with less people and the partygoers were very very friendly, very very smiley, and very very beautiful as i was myself!!!I was impressed by the lack of himbo and bimbo couples.I did meet a number of straight men but all the ones i came in contact with were very friendly and i enjoyed their pressence. The music was great in all venues and the dome was a definate hot and steamy journey. My only dissapointment was Danni'.The light show for the buildup was amazing and beautiful but the actual show i found a little boring.i didn't see jimmys show but was happy about that. Marcia was the best of all and a perfect closing.Thankyou to the organisers, to all the djs, lighting people, and others who contributed to the night and thankyou to all the wonderful people who went and created such a friendly relaxed and enjoyable night and a very special thanyou to all the great people who i danced with, chatted to, hugged, kissed and contributed to the many many special moments i had throughout the night.its great to be gay!!!!

I'm still recovering, but I have to answer 'live outside the triangle'. In no way do I believe that the 78ers march was the only thing that gave us freedom. I *do* believe that it is one of the single most important acts, and if it hadn't happened we may not be where we are today. I hate to burst the bubble here, but I have been involved in Mardi Gras (volunteering, working, assisting etc... for more parties and 'parades' than the one in 1978. I am very much 'outside the triangle' and have made certain that I am so. You have to grow with the times, not be a slave to them. However, injustice, non-consultation and ignorance are just that. Please don't be blind to it or uncaring about it. As far as the 'us and them' mentaility? I am a bit stunned by the assertion that I have one. I am actually one of the people fighting for full GLBT unity and inclusion. However, to make this comment on topic for this wall, I have felt (and still do) that the 'straightening' of Mardi Gras has disenfranchised more members of our community than you may think. Even Marcia did not thank the Pres, after her song. She thanked Richard Cobden, she thanked Gary Leeson and then she thanked a bulk of people. This is something which needs to be addressed otherwise, this 'straightening' may well create an 'us vs them' mentality. In no way do I feel that vying for further equality, visibility and acceptance is wrong. I do think that we have to clean up our own house first, though. In regards to the Party, It was big, huge, happy, full of technical problems (many of which may have escaped the notice of the average attendee, because of the 'enhancements' which people were on) and full of people enjoying themselves. I spoke with many people (I went unenhanced) including Crew, Security, Board members, and found out a lot of issues which need to be addressed (more on those later). I must say that Dannii's show was pretty fine and dandy. Jimmy's show good *because* it was bolstered by some very cute dancers, but I can still see no reason for him to be there, the appause after his song went to support that. It was polite and some cheering, but it was short and polite - nothing more. Jimmy was heard to say, as he ran from backstage ignoring his security guys, "get me out of this place". I missed Erin's show but I was there for Marcia's show and it was great! Marcia supports and acknowledges the community, as does Danni, and Erin. I can't comment any more on Jimmy. The music in the RHI and Hordern was awesome, the Dome was the dome as always. The Mens only space was an excellent place to be and far better than the insult of the toilets last time. I also have to thank the medical teams. I saw them driving around and attending to so much on the night and attending to people, that I hope they had time to party afterwards. They certainly deserved it. there are certainly things which need changing (including attitudes and Mardi Gras Inc issues) but *overall*, the Party Committee deserves a vote of thanks. I had a great time.

Okay, here's my take on it. The layout was strange but interesting and fun, though I would have hated to have been really off my face because you could become seriously disorientated. The lighting rigs in the Hordern and RHI were amazing and it's a pity there isn't anywhere to sit and enjoy them. I felt very sorry for Sean Manly playing his first party and having the sound system f*** up, and then to be booed by all the stupid muscle marys down the front for something that wasn't his fault. Although I still think Warren Gluck has no real idea of how to build a set, he played just the right stuff for his slot, a mixture of beautiful, camp and kitsch (the Barbra Streisand remix was amazing!) It seemed to me that between the halls there was sufficient diversity to suit everyone (yes Technowarrior?). The Dome was still way too hot despite the fans. The opening show was pretty speccie but I still hate Everlasting Night - what a shame everyone stood there like dummies for two hours waiting for it. Jimmy was pretty fierce and it was a good show, but I still say 'why' Gary? But we know the answer already. The Erin show was poorly conceived and executed, but she sang well. The tacky exposed scaffolding was ... well, tacky. And the closing show was just great. Nevertheless the shows have now become very formula and Las Vegas. A change of direction or a bit more diversity would be nice. And I don't mean just another crony filling the party director's seat. Hope you all enjoyed your Mardi Gras.

this has been my fifth mardi gras party ('91,'96,'97,'98, & '99) and our little melbourne/sydney group had a damn fine time. the horden was the best - especially around 2am (or was it 5am...?), and i loved the two huge pink lights that flooded the outside areas. even the rain was special. last year i thought the party had become "too commercial" and had a whinge about it, but over the past year, i've realised that when something becomes "the in thing" and "a tourist attraction" then it's gonna become "commercial" whether you like it or not. i doubt the gras would be able to find 20,000 exclusively gay/lesbian/transgender/bisexual/queer/not hetero type people for the party, and it's a good thing for the "straights" to see how good a gay/lesbian/transgender/bisexual/queer/not hetero party can be. tolerance!
a couple of things that I noticed about this year's party that were different to previous ones -
1. last year the sound systems worked really well. this year i loved the fact that we payed more so we could have the music stop at the exact point that our medication kicks in. have a spare generator ready to go next time (or better amps perhaps?)
2. was it my imagination or was everybody more shitfaced than normal this year. i've never seen so many rolling eyes in one place! perhaps some people need to check their doses!
3. last year there were shows in the horden and the RHI. and they were all mindblowing. this year ... we got a minogue (yawn) a bogan (why?) and marcia (well...it was a good song). what the hell is going on? can we expect marilyn manson in 2000? maybe kylie & kyuss? If the gras want to promote australian artists, make sure they're gay first! (***hot rumour!! daniel johns from silverchair has reportedly told his record company that if anyone ever interviews him and asks if he's gay, then he's gonna say yes! - Perhaps it will be an "anthem for the year 2000" in the year 2000???)
i'll stop whinging now. i (and my friends) still had the best night of our lives, and will be back next year. i guess even the biggest of parties can't please everyone, but at least 20,000 people all off their dots on the dancefloor is pretty hard to f**k up!
well done mardi gras corp. let's see the logo on cans of coke next year (just in case nobody's heard of it)

Well, I hate to gloat but ... did any of the doubters see Dannii, Jimmy, Erin and Marcia at Mardi Gras. I'm sure I did. Anyway, regardless of the inappropriate choices of performers, the awfulness of Everlasting Night and the blatant nepotism in Mardi Gras at the moment, it was a damn good parade and party. But listen in. Just because the gruesome twosome S A Y it's their last party don't mean it really is. They will continue running McMardi Gras Music for a start, and the Party Committee will continue to be handpicked yes-M E N. If you really want things to change it has to be done by removing their influence on the Board, and that means standing some candidates with the skills, the intelligence and the commitment to change, not whining losers with no profile or community respect. Got any ideas?

4am to 10am, RHI was absolutely fantastic, Warren Gluck, a tribute to you for making my night (or morning??). Not to mention the husky voice (for singing to tunes with words!!!) and a locked jaw (for smiling too much). Having said that, the grounds were quite awful and the rain didn't help, did anyone else had trouble getting out of the RHI after the Dannii show?? It was hazardous! Oh, and thank you for the lighting crew, the RHI was a dreamscape.

I'm not sure that I am articulate enough just yet to repeat the essays outlined above. But here's a list of my favourite things on the night....Marcia,Marcia, Marcia; Bill Cotzis's set in the Dome (Stetsosnoic - All that Jazz!!!!); the Men, the Men, the Men in the Dome (proving that a male only space is superflous anyway); the boy who proved to me that Gravity doesn't exist; Steve Carley playing Ray of Light; the kooky new tented pavillions...and just to balance the critique, if there's not going to be a 12:00 show say so, the crush in the RHI was unbelievable as everyone waited - this was worse than the tradiitional 12:00 crush at the gate - but overall it was one of the best.
Very happy indeed - Tue Mar 2 11:30:48 1999 |

For the record Mardi Gras spread the word that there was no show at midnight but most people refused to believe it, thinking that perhaps they were being tricked so the RHI would not fill up too much.

What the hell happened in the RHI? Unbelievable that one of the newest DJ to the big party circuit got such appaling equipment failures. Shame MG, Shame to whoever did the sound! As usual, the sound in the RHI was crap - time for a re-think me thinks. There are different designs and speakers (like the Big Top NYE) that work fine. Mind you, the Hordern sounded better than ever before and the Dome was, well, bloody hot with lots of sound bouncing off the uncovered walls. MG, why didn't you learn from the Inquisition party and drape the damn walls. Cutting budgets in essential areas is a recipe for disaster. Give the DJs decent working environments please!

Thanks to MG for Warren (again!). It's good to see the talent utilised at our party. Warren also blew us all away at Frisky. It's ashame the locals get a little nervous (or jealous) when that talent is around. Listen, learn, improve, appreciate others' talent. Oh yes, Susan was sensational at the Shark (for those that went!)

All I can say is Warren Gluck, wow what a man!!!!! His set was the best hours of party pleasure I have ever had...I could feel every person in the RHI enjoying my perfect day with me!!! More, more, more please!!! The 1am show was a bad idea - from 12 onwards it was standing room only and even in my less than coherent state I thought i was going to pass out, die or worse. Thank you to all the wonderful people I connected with on the night...hope to see you all next year.

There were no official drag shows this year. But I'm sure I saw at least 10000 mini shows on the dance floor during Warren's bracket. People lip syching away to the songs and doing their spontaneous 'routines'. No attitude. Just fun fun fun. It was a wonderful uplifting sight. But guys and gals, sorry to say but the routines my friend's and I were doing were the best !!!!???? I agree it was a perfect day - 6 to 10 that Sunday morning. And to end it all with Marcia - what can I say.
We all reaped just what we sowed. - Tue Mar 2 20:34:01 1999 |
Well, I really don't giva damn about the dj's or their sets...I had a great time just grooving and moving around all the spaces. There are many dance events for the technophiles to rate and to pass opinions. For me, Mardi Gras is about communion with my gay and lesbian friends, to rejoice and celebrate that yes, somewhere, there IS a place for us. WE make the parade; WE make the party - it is our celebration. It's not easy putting on a party in the middle of a building site (Sleaze proved that). MG was surprisingly good - I went past the showground on Wednesday and couldn't imagine how anyone could turn the rubble into a party space. The area between RHI and the Horden was an unpaved mess. I can't wait until Fox are finished...next time maybe we can use a soundstage or two. Lets get past the idea that MG is just a dance and find a broader appeal when more space opens up. Celebrate the Future: Equality in Diversity!!

Kylie's sister, David's father, Carol's daughter and Deni's mum.
It appears that the only critera necessary for staring in a Mardi Gras show these days is to be a family relative of some one who is slightly involved in the gay & lesbian community. What next? How about....(Party Director) Gary Leeson's ex-wife appearing for Sleaze 2000.That would just as relevent and probably more entertaining than the stars of MG Party 1999.

Er, excuse me, but as far as Marcia goes she's a genuine icon who has happily given time to our community often in the past. The response to her performance should have told you that she, at least, was someone special.

Could Mardi Gras publish a costing of just how much the performers were paid for their slot? I, and many others, would love to know how much of our money Jimmy Barnes was given.
Secondly, how about Jimmy repays the support his dead career has received from the queer community with some public comments supporting our curent issues. I'd like to see that!

It's always possible Barnesy did it for free. Don't go jumping to conclusions. Your anger should be directed at the two people who have been controling the party so long, not at the likes of Dannii and Barnesy. And remember, he was just one small part of a great party.

personally, i thought the jimmy barnes show was fantastic.....until jimmy walked on stage and ruined it! It would have been f**king great if the girls had sang and the boys danced- old vodka voice had no place on that stage! Danniiiii's full name is now Dannii Drugged out Disco Dolly, and Marcia was brilliant- as was Erin- shame production on Erin's show was a rehash of an old Chaka show- still what can we expect from that tired old queen; laleeson? Thank god my chems were fantastic.... dj's were great, everything was great! (I might still be out of it, methinks!) hope yours was good...

Just one comment: the 2 shows I saw - Barnies and Dannie were let down by the choreography. You don't do a Mardi Gras show by throwing everything on stage up front at the beginning. There was no 'build'. Just standard gyrating bore. Who choreographed that B52's number - was it last year? THAT was brilliant.
Wed Mar 3 16:21:23 1999 |
Glad to see that its not all bitchin, so I will do a bit, those bleachers, well, there were not enough of them and they did not give you a view of the dance floor. But I did use the seats outside the horden when I could sit down. Panther, that is the only bitch I can think of. We boycotted DM, JB and MH only saw EH she was great thanks for the chance to have a say. Had a fab time in the dome around threeish, it was not that busy at all at that time, the best place is near the DJ. Luv and kisses to all. Happy Inquisition.

I've got the Mardi gras flu, but I think it was worth it just to hear Warren Gluck spinning his toons!! Can he please do every dance party between now and including mardi gras 2000?? (P.S Jimmy sucked and was a totally inappropriate choice of performer...but why the hell was everyone cheering???)...By the way, does Warren have a website or email address for emails of intense gratitude???
Vote 1 Warren! - Wed Mar 3 17:02:24 1999 |

I have Warren's email somewhere, I'll have a look for it when I have time. Perhaps everyone was cheering because JB was not the only person on the stage in that show. And why the f*** would anyone boycott Marcia. Sheesh.

To the 'melbourne spencer' who dragged that goddamn wheelie bin onto the dance floor in the RHI...Get a life!! Your fun little idea completely ruined the vibe in that entire area because it became an impromptu 'performance' space...i.e that little unscheduled show involving one boy f***ing another boys mouth while a whole bunch of creepy guys gathered round to watch...it may sound good now but when you're out there on a really happy vibe and all of a sudden there's a feeding frenzy around you it can be pretty disturbing. I could almost smell the blood in the water...Maybe the dome is a better venue for such 'shows'?

It felt odd to be partying in a construction site. Could Mardi Gras have hired say Darling Harbour while those renovations take place. At least there weren't any men's or women's spaces - cause that experiment was acomplete flop. Also Please explain to me this Jimmy Barnes thing - I can't think of anyone less appropropiate to perform at a gay & lesbian party. Maybe we have Metallica to look forward to at Sleaze. Where was George Michael or the Pet Shop Boys

I'm glad to see that most people consider that JB was a bad choice, also Dannii was moderate. I'm also happy that most people had a good time regardless of what MG tried to do. The thing is that I am surprised that people have kept their points of view even after the 'enhancements'. Good to see that the truth will out. Hopefully we will see a coup before October and we can all have a true Mardi Gras party - Sleaze Ball.

Good party - pity about the shitty sound in RHI and Warren Gluck's set ( again ) heard it all the first time around - it was called the 80's - hey guys what's wrong with the 90's ????
And Mardi Gras, the Bears of The World float had over 400 members again - yet we still didn't get a mention !!!!
Does anyone know how I can contact Ken from Coffs Harbour( was staying in Enmore ) - I gotta see you again ...

Of course there were men's and women's only spaces. They were in tents across Driver Avenue from the Hordern and quite popular too. It's not that Jimmy Barnes was a bad choice and more than Dannii so stop dishing it out to them. It's W H Y they were chosen that is the issue.

Thanks to all the wonderful Sydney men and women for again making me feel so at home for my performances at Mardi Gras and Frisky. Both performances were completely different; Mardi Gras was more American and sentimental, and Frisky was more Australian and cutting edge. As far as all the comments go, I know that I cannot please all the dancers all of the time. However, please know that all of my music comes straight from my heart, and it has always been my goal to spread joy and love through that music. Again, thank you all. It is indeed a high honor to be asked back to play in your wonderful city. I would indeed return any time! Love and music, Warren Gluck

bundybear...you only have to have been in the rhi, chatted to people after the party or read this wall to to have felt and seen that warren was a very popular choice. there was plenty of non eighties music elsewhere. face the fact warren was loved.

Hey Bundybear...90's stuff is cool, but there was fantastic variety if you wandered around the venues. Our group of bears had a great time checking out the different styles and the endless meanderings around the whole party meant we got to meet heaps of other bears as well. As for the non-mention of the Bears in the parade, well, it just goes to show how behind the times some folks are considering this movement is now nearly 20 years old! I was rapt with the warm reception we got as interstate bear visitors from everyone, not just other bears. Thanks all you Sydney poofs and dykes for making us feel so welcome!! XXX

Yes, Nobody's Supposed To Be Here was played by Sean Manly quite early. Warren Gluck did not play all eighties music at all. He played a handful of eighties and eighties remixes. Grow up and go dance in the Hordern.

I hope you realise that you are about to be court martialed by the Pinkboard Mardi Gras Music Mafia for enjoying yourself dancing to music under 160 beats per minute which not only has treble but melody and words. Don't you realise that just knowing someone out there is having a good time to that stuff is enough to give them apoplexy?

Luke Leal, Luke Leal, Luke Leal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've never been to a party which kept me in the Hordern for so long. You rocked that hall without a dull moment. Thankyou from the bottom of my dancing shoes.
As for the bizarre commentary on Dannii and Jimmy, Lighten up!!!
You can be passionate about Mardi Gras without being Feral! I wasn't expecting too much of the Dannii show but was actually pleasantly surprised. As for the crap thrown at Jimmy over the past few weeks, how disgraceful. This guy is one of Australia's most talented and lasting singer/ songwriters whose just completed a hugely successful tour with a band that hasn't been together for over fifteen years. I took my brother to a Cold Chisel concert in December as a Christmas present and have not seen devotion from fans quite like it. This guy is an extremely gay friendly Australian icon who is adored by just the kind of people WE have a responsibility to educate. As far as I can see, if ONE Chisels fan out in the suburbs hears about Jimmy performing at Mardi Gras and thinks twice, then it was worth it.
Donna Summer thinks we belong in concentration camps and yet somehow is a "gay icon". K.D Lang is asked personally to appear by Big Bev and says "No, I don't think so". Jimmy is seen at Stonewall and is suddenly, in spite of his continuing success, a "fading star in search of the pink dollar". If you don't like his music, fine, but at least give the guy the respect he deserves for getting of his arse and doing something creative with his life. As for his friendship with certain MG big wigs, let's get real. Most of the names flouted every year wouldn't piss on our stage for a tenth of what we can afford, and there'll come a time where their aren't any more 70's disco divas left standing. I don't care who Mardi Gras gets up on that stage as long as they believe in our cause and can make me dance. Long Live Jimmy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats to "Can't we all just love each other" I agree 100% wiv ya!! I had a great time at Mardi Gras, highlights being Armand van Helden 'You don't know me' in the dome, and yes I did hear 'Kyle's mum is a stupid bitch' there too - it wasn't your drugs hehe. Also the few hours up to 10am in the RHI even though it was 40 in the shade and 110% humidity. I think I even saw 'funkeeboi' having a good time (assuming it was him)...

to the barnes fan who signed his message "cant we all just love each other" how naive, god i remember being hassled at school by cold chisel loving boys who hated gays with a passion, as a gay person i have every right to feel anger at barness for appearing at the mardi gras party, he was part of homo hating
culture ie bogans, god what next buddy forgiveness for fred nile??? wake up you peanut!
Fri Mar 5 21:15:21 1999 |
|
Wake UP to yourself. Jimmy Barnes has never been a part of, encouraged or condoned homo hating or bashing. Just because his music doesn't appeal to you doesn't mean it was in any way anti-gay or 'bogan'. So what if some people you label bogans liked his music. The film clip for Saturday Night was one of the first items of Australian culture to acknowledge Mardi Gras in a positive way. Get yourself some history lessons. The anger you feel should be directed at Cobden Leeson and co for placing straight performers on stage who happen to be their mates and giving free tickets to straight celebrities and supermodels etc when they reject honest bisexuals as members. Use you brains. Your anger is misdirected.

I was very dissapointed at the TV coverage. The ABC was better. and a lot of country peopledont get Capital. They spent too long on a few floats and didn't show a lot of the others. I realise they go for spectactular but it takes each individual to make a mardi gras parade.

Thanks for a great Party - even though the night went so fast my partner and I had a great time. Only part we never enjoyed was Jimmy Barnes endless screeching and as far as Danni Minogue goes, at least she got her act over and done with early. Please don't come back next year Danni. The Recoveries were great this year as well.

Nameless one if you weren't so busy with your head up your own arse you would have read my various posts and know that I did not like the fact that Jimmy Barnes was performing and think it should not have happened. But Jimmy Barnes is not your enemy and has never encouraged anyone to be your enemy. Come out from behind the barricades sweetie and see that the enemy lies within your own ranks. That was my point. Look, listen, learn.
