Graffiti Wall was so popular that I have created a new one to coincide with
the launch of the festival.
It's Mardi Gras, the time to celebrate our pride. |

Please leave your comments on events you have been to, places to meet, costume suggestions, rumours and gossip using the form at the bottom of the page. Just returned from the launch! Official crowd 23,500. Unofficial crowd 32,000. That's lesbians, gay men and our friends! We totally covered the Opera House steps and raised the roof. I'm sure little Johnny must have heard our cheers and jeers from his residence. Gilbert, a 17 year old gay man, born in Phillipines and moved to Australia at age 1, gave a moving cry for acceptance and an equal age of consent. He spoke about the many many gay and lesbian school mates who have come to him contemplating suicide. Andrew Refshauge and Paul O'Grady reiterated our demands for equal rights in housing, access, relationships, superannuation and safety in our streets.
I'm glad I'm gay and part of the world's greatest Lesbian and Gay event - Sydney's Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival. Love to all our sisters and brothers.
I just heard on the ABC gossip line that Mrs (and I believe I heard that correct, Mrs)Dawn Davenport of Newcastle is believed to be the the head in the running for Miss Fair Day this year. Yours in the most glamourous of all hair does, Indira Naidooo - Sat Feb 1 0:44:27 1997 mello, there are a few of us, just lurking around.. Tyre - Sat Feb 1 1:26:36 1997 To all Mardi Gras DJ's. If you are reading this, then please take note. Playing a major party is about playing what the crowd want to hear, in this case what the GAY crowd want to hear. This includes commercial music in your set. Shelve your egos and stop trying to impress other DJ's with your new "progressive" (yeah right) tracks. If you're any good you'll know that other dj's are more impressed with how you take the crowd on a journey through ecstasy, sleaze, passion and sheer jubilation. Yes, let them throw their hands in the air. It's Mardi gras, celebrate and have a good time! Trouble - Sat Feb 1 3:26:22 1997 I hope everyone, enjoyed the launch! It looked Fab! Seeyou all there soon! (amongst a hourde of other Brisbanites!) RED - Sat Feb 1 10:30:54 1997 Dear Trouble, Are you serious, no ecstacy, sleaze, passion or sheet jubliation? Somebody shoot me now, I might as well be straight.....All Mardi Gras DJ's ignore him - I want the works, I want the sleaze, the sleaze, the sleaze and oh yes, the sheer jubiliation. I'd rather have my hands on someone else's bum than in the air Wondering - Sat Feb 1 15:04:20 1997 Dear Sister Soul, Help me, we need to set this poor troubled "Trouble" on the right path - he should never come to Melbourne. Say something to help. I want ecstacy, I want sleaze, I want passion and above all I want sheer jubilation. Where are you - are you there? More groovy garage please - Sat Feb 1 19:33:15 1997 All I want is Mrs Dawn Davenport QE2 - Sat Feb 1 20:00:13 1997 Pity I missed the party last night. Hope all girls and boys behaved themselves and had a good time. See you at the party for a even better time. Love Jamy C - Sat Feb 1 21:14:12 1997 Dear Wondering .... I have been wondering who will put their hands on my bum! Hope all you Sydney boys enjoy February party month, I'm a cheep kiwi bitch who can only make for the party ... and recovery of course ... so please save something for me and other late commers. Syn'er - Sun Feb 2 12:39:47 1997 Funny reading in the Sydney gay Comics, Q and SSO. One letters is critical of the lack of orginality in the poster theme and design, the very next is critical of the Music being orginal and not predictable. Cumrat - Sun Feb 2 20:20:02 1997 Gilbert had a profound effect on me at the Mardi Gras Launch. He pointed out that we, as gays and lesbians, have to do it differently. Now, that's something I hadn't quite thought about before. ;) Rocky - Sun Feb 2 22:22:08 1997 This year I will be attending my first party. I look forward to giving you all a hug and a kiss. I auditioned for the lead float on the weekend. Although I don't stand a chance, I had a great time, Thanks to all at Mardi-Gras for the opportunity. Rod - Mon Feb 3 12:59:41 1997 Hey Wondering, maybe you should read the last two sentences in Troubles mail again darling! He says the opposite to what you think! Oh and while I'm here how about show rumour No. 1 : Madonna singing DCFM Argentina (Disco Version) with 200 flamenco drag queens Endora Finn - Mon Feb 3 18:05:38 1997 Fancy Endora Finn suggesting Mardi Gras do an Evita show. HA! Melbourne's Koori Goddess Doreen performed the number to 6,000 at Red Raw last week. Looks like Mardi Gras was pipped at the post, yet again. PS The Village People? Are the commitee for real????? Sister Soul - Mon Feb 3 21:24:07 1997 I second "Trouble"'s comments on music. Where did we import some of those DJ's from last year, I dont want to hear what they'll be playing at Red Raw in 98, I'd listen to JJJ for that. Less "this is what I've been able to find" and more get down and grind" music to dance my pecs off on !!!! Muscle-sister ! - Mon Feb 3 23:38:50 1997 Ah, you Sydney muscle queens are too sad. JJJ is *hardly* cutting edge for gawds sake. Why don't you stay at home and spin your Stock, Aitken and Waterman collection in the security of your own Darlinghurst bedsit. Queers are meant to be style setters sweetie. Like leaders. Not followers. Get with the program. Dance music is about change, experimentation. Open your mind and let your body follow. You'll be able to sing along in no time. Slim'n'hip - Tue Feb 4 10:26:12 1997 personally, i'm so excited about seeing all of those queer chicks when i come over, things are getting a little slippery ... mardi gras is such an amazing concept for me, i have no idea what to expect (except perhaps to have my hands on someones bum!). look forward to seeing all of you fabulously gorgeous queer beasts! feisty grrl - Tue Feb 4 11:18:38 1997 A queen from melbourne talking about style, being leaders not followers. Get real sweetie, you lot have been following Sydney for years, not that you could ever admit it. All melbourne ever did for Mardi Gras was send up a DJ who managed to clear the dance floor, and the little "slim'n'hip" guy who vomited over my boyfriend. Stay at home! Dave - Tue Feb 4 13:17:36 1997 All Muscle Queens are not sad, just the one's with attitude. There easy to spot, they hang around in pairs or groups ( all with muscle ). But some queens with muscle are nice guys, just say hello, you may be suprised. SDI - Tue Feb 4 13:23:36 1997 Thats surprise I can spell , cant type. SDI - Tue Feb 4 13:28:29 1997 I'm over all this carry on about music! Just go to the party with the intention of having fun and you will. There is such a fantastic variety of music out there and we usually get variety at the parties. Who wants to hear the same type of music all night! Thank goddess we all have different tastes. Its all good and if you don't like it, that doesn't make it bad. Just think when you hear a song you don't like someone else on the dance floor loves it. Remember all those old favourites? Someone had to play them first! I wish the only thing wrong in the world was music at parties. Why not pour all your anger into something worthwhile! I hope everyone has a fabulous time at the party, I know I will!!!!! Gregsta - Tue Feb 4 18:38:00 1997 Does anybody have two spare tickets that they can sell ??? Mine is a long sordid story as to why I've missed out but it begins with .... "I live in Canberra and .... ". I am going in the parade and don't want to miss the party. Please email sgriffin@pcug.org.au if you can help me. Desperate and Dateless - Tue Feb 4 18:47:49 1997 I hope to see my brother & brother-in-law on TV again this year looking glamorous as always. Joe Brown (Brother of Miss Fair Day 1995) - Tue Feb 4 20:09:18 1997 Miss Dawn Davenport - will you be at the party? What will you be wearing...apart from your Fair Day Crown? Wondering - Tue Feb 4 21:46:48 1997 5 Feb 97: Opening tonight 6pm at Hester Gallery Expresso, 355 King Street, Newtown: Fractured Fairytales Four world-class artists exhibting painting, ceramics photography and jewellery. Preview it now at http://www.acay.com.au/~lookout/gallery/first.htm and come to the opening, sponsored by Smirnoff. Guest speaker is Christopher Puplick. On view until 25 Feb. (A Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Community Arts Event) Wed Feb 5 9:44:10 1997 Miss Dawn Davenport is rumoured to be the 4 o clock show in the RHI. I want to eat Miss Dawn Davenport. Miss Dawn Davenport for Miss Fair Day - Wed Feb 5 21:58:36 1997 Well said Gregsta. This will be my first Mardi Gras and I‘m really up for it. Unfortunately, all this bickering about the music is giving me a bad impression of the whole thing.I hope there are more people out there with the same mindset as you. Tokyo Joe - Thu Feb 6 0:54:57 1997 Gregsta, U R sooo cool. Man. Oh soooo hip. Gregsta worshipper - Thu Feb 6 2:00:02 1997 Rumour 1) Which Simply the Best performer with legs the dykes will cry for is in town and was known to have called Bev two weeks ago??? 2) What have they done to the Horden to ensure a gay return to form for the hall to challenge the RHI 3) Which well known Sydney performer is doing a one person show in the Dome at 3:30pm (not troughman you stupid queen that was Sleaze) Anyway see you all there with bells on and little else. p.s SDI I sympethise I have never type so badly, mainly because I am shivering in expectation of meeting nice muscle boys. Gira - Thu Feb 6 16:39:46 1997 Things certianly are getting exciting !! I've ticket in hand and am counting on seeing plently of action. I feel the merchandise from last year outdoes this years - bright colours etc. but what the difference when your're gonna take them off ?? Cheers to Razza-ma-daz, my best buddy waiting for me in Sydney. Zebedee - Thu Feb 6 17:06:41 1997 Things certianly are getting exciting !! I've ticket in hand and am counting on seeing plently of action. I feel the merchandise from last year outdoes this years - bright colours etc. but what the difference when your're gonna take them off ?? Cheers to Razza-ma-daz, my best buddy waiting for me in Sydney. Zebedee - Thu Feb 6 17:32:38 1997 WooHoo - Only 3 weeks to go until the parade, yay! All this talk of bad music, and Sydney/Melbourne bitching, and muscle-bound studs with bad attitudes... just remember there is more than 1 hall and certainly more than just a few guys (muscle bound or not) who will be having an absolutely fabulous time and will be more than happy for you to join them (I'll certainly be one of them!). So, don't worry about the music or what everyone else is thinking, just relax - be happy and help make those around you happy and everyone will have a great time! DovE - Thu Feb 6 23:09:23 1997 Meet me at the Horden at 1am on the dance floor. Me: white T; 501s; DMs (black with glitter)...see ya Thu Feb 6 23:10:02 1997 From one Newcastle drag queen to another - Vote One Mrs Dawn Davenport for Miss Fair Day!!! We're all right behind you Taffy Anne and I know how much you love the idea of that!!! Miss Madeleine Lacroix - Fri Feb 7 17:01:04 1997 Miss Dawn Davenport, Queen of the Universe. John Howard - Fri Feb 7 19:21:40 1997 To Steve Carley
If you play at mardi gras like you did at sleaze 96 i will be very
happy. And i hope you play at the shift recovery as well.
you really know how to play to a very "happy smiling crowd"!!!
happy mardi gras everyone.......
P.S. Dawn Davenport for Miss Fair Day!!!!!!!!!!!
could someone tell me about the alternative parties for mardi gras. we are a party of 8 newcastle dykes who want to go to an attitude free, not too sm space after the parade. could someone tell us what parties are happening and how to get tickets. miss dawn davenport - we love your bean bag voluptuousness. go girlfriend go lolita lickmeout - Sat Feb 8 18:16:38 1997 Miss Dawn Davenport.....please please please we have to see you and good luck in your bid for Fair Day and PS Dear Gira, I've always wanted to wear just bells to the party but I've never been sure to wear them - this was a popular topic of discussion at the pool today. My question to you is...will you always be able to dance in time to the music, It could be quite devasting otherwise. The most popular answer for where to wear the bells was tied to the nipple rings. Wondering - Sat Feb 8 19:07:01 1997 BoyPussy is fabulous!!! See it!!! Sat Feb 8 22:41:37 1997 It's a beautiful day. Perfect for Fair Day. See you all at Jubilee Park, Glebe. Watch out for the Pinkboard flyer. Panther - Sun Feb 9 10:22:27 1997 Miss Dawn Davenport for Miss Fair Day 1998 Sun Feb 9 18:06:04 1997 Help me, I'm melting! Sun Feb 9 18:09:43 1997 Tina Turner.... Sun Feb 9 20:00:23 1997 Fair day was very very hot. All the dogs had a difficult time with the heat. All the drag queen's had a difficu... oh I just said that. THere was lots of heavy panting and droling... from all species. dagger - Sun Feb 9 20:15:20 1997 Getting ready for a float together with your friends is a real test of your ties with them. The stress is growing but so is the excitement. It is all coming together now, but as we draw closer to the end, the size of the costumes are growing and taking over the whole lounge room, bedroom, workroom, bathroom...... Cumrat - Sun Feb 9 20:21:32 1997 My dear Wondering - if you had taken the time to read what I originally said about the music, you would realise that you simply re-iterated what I was saying. I dont really give a toss what they play, just as long as its sleazy and fabulous and is a real expression of gay pride. I dont really give a toss because im not going anyway... trouble - Sun Feb 9 22:59:29 1997 No-good and Trouble will be in the parade this year kiddies. Look out for us. We'll be the fabulous ones in gold. Trouble - Sun Feb 9 23:02:23 1997 Oh. p.s. The Beresford Hotel has been sold. We may not have a recovery. Rumour is, it's to become an 8 storey apartment block. Like Surry Hills needs another..... Trouble - Sun Feb 9 23:04:38 1997 Wow, I just found out Im in the parade with my mate Trouble... I cant wait. What a way to spend my Birthday, Im sooooooooo excited. No Good - Mon Feb 10 10:59:22 1997 Hi to all you Newcastle boys and girls. I expected to see more of you at Fair Day, but its cool that your all so active here on the board. Love ya lotz. Zoro (ex-nova) - Mon Feb 10 13:12:49 1997 BoyPussie - see it at all costs(it wouldn't let me type the correct spelling, what type of graffiti wall is this!). Love ya Noel XXX Zoro - Mon Feb 10 13:19:11 1997 Look out Sydney, Iam on my way! Perth is killing me with boredom and I need to re-energise. The Ky Cowboy is douched, lubed and ready to run a muck. I'll be the one with the smile. Ky Cowboy - Mon Feb 10 15:53:15 1997 Oh Ky Cowboy, ride 'em baby. I'm ready to have some fun in the muck too. I'll be the one with hands on my bum, and if there ain't a smilie on my face it's because my mouth will be full and I'll be trying to keep my teeth out of the way. Syn'er - Mon Feb 10 18:37:07 1997 Ok Trouble, I'm a ditz - but I'd still rather dance with my hands on someone's bum! (Hopefully with chaps on!) Have a lovely parade and enjoy the festival Wondering - Mon Feb 10 22:40:55 1997 I have two friends coming out from South Africa for the Parade and Party and desperately need to organise tickets for the two of them. I just missed the cut off for purchasing them direct, and so hopefully there are still a couple of unwanted ones out there.I am prepared to pay a bit extra than the original price for them. Please Email me if you can help out. Thanks. colldave@eis.net.au - Mon Feb 10 23:39:24 1997 I do hope you manage to find some spare tickets for your South African friends, it would be a 'shame' to come all this way, and not go to the party; but even so the parade is Fabulous, and there is always Recovery. but tut tut to anyone who offers you tickets above the selling price, it's appaling to think that that could even happen, it totally defeats the spirit of Mardi Gras... good luck with getting some tickets at cost price. No Good - Wed Feb 12 18:02:30 1997 Hmmm...rumour has it that major sponsor Smirnoff and Mardi Gras are having a big spiff-up. Anyone able to confirm? Did sglmg really announce the other vodka (horror) as sponsor on tv? Did the Smirnoff arts prize really get hijacked? Tell me please... Thu Feb 13 0:26:59 1997 South Sydney Council Censord Public Art Project! Pride and Artspace deplore the action of the South Sydney Council in the removal of the site specific public art project billboard by Gay Asian artists Eugene Ho and Andrew Ewing as part of the Reinscribing Pleasure installations, a 1997 Mardi Gras Festival event.
The project was developed and erected with full approval from the South Sydney Council in collaboration with Pride and Artspace. The billboard was erected by the Council last week and removed by them on Tuesday 10 February without the consent of or any consultation with the artists, curators, Pride or Artspace. We view this action as blatant censorship and irresponsible as there was no consultation process attempted by the South Sydney Council. There was a six month period of working closely with the Council and Reinscribing Pleasure received some funding from Council. The project was fully supported by that department.
The Fair Day Gallery is now open. See what you missed out on, or if our camera found you. See if you can spot me. Panther - Thu Feb 13 19:28:09 1997 I won't be going to the Party this year,I've found I can have just as much fun at less expense. Trouble and NoGood I'll keep my eye out for you. I'll be in the crowd......somewhere. Red - Thu Feb 13 21:55:09 1997 This is kinda like a long period of foreplay before the main event . See ya at the Party ( last year I got sooo stoned i didnt arrive!!!!) PeterOZ - Sat Feb 15 14:31:49 1997 I can't afford to buy anything new for the party so I'm going to re-hash an old outfit. Which is more Mardi-Gras - black or silver PVC shorts? Or should I just go with the leather shorts? Help me... I can't decide! (PS> Wondering: save some of those chap-clad bums for me!) DovE - Sat Feb 15 20:47:27 1997 oh i m so glad that sglmg is more than a party, that would be so boring. I suppose i have more interests in life than being drug f##ked... as for the boy in the pvcs no one will remember, so it doesn't matter Sun Feb 16 10:40:13 1997 DovE - you can never go wrong in leather. I would be asking which one would be sweatier - and I would think that leather would win hands down. Besides - its a natural fabric. Wondering - Sun Feb 16 11:09:58 1997 Hmmm.... Tina Turner and Dolly Parton doing Nutbush City Limits???? spy - Tue Feb 18 8:44:18 1997 RuPaul? Endora Finn - Tue Feb 18 11:43:08 1997 Where's me old mate AbFab? Rumour has it she dropped a dumbbell onto the floor at the gym, it rolled into the mirror and the mirror broke and she bled to death from a severed jugular vein. The other rumour is she met a really boring man and they moved to Melbourne. Can anyone shed some light? betty beatkweene - Tue Feb 18 14:41:20 1997 11 more sleeps to go, - 11 more sleeps 'till party, - 11 more sleeps 'till the big fat man lies down in the trough and drinks your ............! 11 more sleeps 'till party. Syn'er - Tue Feb 18 15:28:16 1997 All the best in every way possible! I wish that I was there but it will have to wait (dismally, sadly, probably) till 2000 or 2001! (By the way, should we party the new millenium in both 2000 & 2001, just to satisfy everyone, including ourselves?) Makes frightfully good sense to me, after all, why wait another 1000 years just to make a point, when all it takes is another year! Cheers, with love, affection, and best wishes, Simon Klaudt! PS http://www2.awinc.com/users/sklaudt Simon - Tue Feb 18 17:13:35 1997 All the best in every way possible! I don't get to Sydney until next week, and a couple of my friends (who aren't going) want me to get them the CD. It might be good idea for someone to list it on the Graffiti Wall, but I'd be happy with an email - watson_m@wcc.govt.nz Thanks Shayne - Wed Feb 19 11:40:34 1997 If you're coming to Sydney 2 days before the party its a bit late for most of the festival but I have really enjoyed the Legend Lounge. Its on after 11.00 and is only $5. You will hear interesting music and there is always a surprise act (there were 3 last time I went). There are a few great exhibitions worth seeing. I recommend "What Is Love" at the Toast II Galery on Commonwealth St. Gregsta - Wed Feb 19 18:13:56 1997 Boys and Girls have their own shows this year. Endora Finn - Mon Feb 24 21:19:48 1997 Mon Feb 24 23:52:26 1997 Chaka Khan is performing at Mardi Gras. Funny how no one in Sydney knows this. S'pose you're all too busy sewing rainbow sequins onto hot-pants. Yawn. Fans of Cobden - Tue Feb 25 10:01:43 1997 To Fans of Cobden: The Chaka Khan rumour was printed in last Thursday's Star Observer so most of Sydney knew before your little posting. S'pose you're going to turn up in your old "Vote for Susan Harben T-shirt". Puke. betty beatkweene - Tue Feb 25 14:42:33 1997 4 more sleeps to go, - 4 more sleeps 'till party, - 4 more sleeps 'till the big fat man lies down in the trough and drinks your .........! 4 more sleeps to Mardi Gras. Syn'er - Tue Feb 25 15:17:17 1997 DCM hasn't bothered to replace the burnt out globes on their signs as they have done the past few years for Mardi Gras. I suppose Mardi Gras doesn't really mean anything to them any more. I wonder why they still advertise in the gay press? Tue Feb 25 20:49:06 1997 I have been doing a little investigation into this Warren Gluck, whom, we are told, is 'big on the party scene in the states'. Personally, I've never heard of him, and wonder whether the following may give us a clue as to why we haven't. http://www.hx.com/hx/listings/1040.html In contrast, perhaps you should read - http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/MartMunch/wardint2.htm Here is a man I'd personally pay to have him perform at a party. Anyway, I just wanted to share this with you all. S'.M'@p'.c'.a'. - Wed Feb 26 2:14:49 1997 2SER-FM will be broadcasting live from the Parade on 107.3 from 8pm Saturday. Look out for the Canberra contingent on the road to Sin City tomorrow night - we will be the ones playing music too loud and generally acting like trash. Honk if you think we're spunky. Honky Canberra Boy - Wed Feb 26 16:54:05 1997 The RHI is almost finished being dressed, and it looks fabulous! Not telling anyone what it looks like though. ;-) Panther - Wed Feb 26 19:25:29 1997 2 more sleeps to go, - 2 more sleeps 'till party, - 2 more sleeps 'till the big fat man lies down in the trough and drinks MY .........! 2 more sleeps to Mardi Gras. Syn'er - Thu Feb 27 5:50:14 1997 Happy Birthday to Frank, a frequent visitor from Canada who has devoted mcuh of his time in helping build the QC float...Happy Mardi Gras too....;-) QC Team - Thu Feb 27 8:42:26 1997 I'm about to hit the Hume highway on the road to Mardi Gras - and to all of you, I've had a faaabulous time on the Graffiti wall - now I'm looking forward to groping you in the dome. Karla Klappe - Sat Mar 1 0:29:59 1997 Whatever you are going to do on Mardi Gras Night, do it safely, and have the night of your lives. But just let me say that I spent today (well yesterday now) at the venue and it does look fabulous. Sometimes I think that all the work may really be worth it. I just can't wait until 3:30 when my Mardi Gras will start. Look out :-) Sat Mar 1 1:38:27 1997 Hello & Happy Mardi Gras from the UK!!. We at Qvision the Gay service on the web want to offer all the best for this year. You can find us at http://www.qvision.co.uk please look in, we will run a feature on Mardi Gras. Have a good one, wish I was there!! Tim - editor@qvision.co.uk - Sat Mar 1 1:53:34 1997 206 floats start up Oxford Street in about six and a half hours!
Oxford Street is buzzung and busy. The party is virtually ready. Home is almost decorated. Now all I have to do is finish my outfit!
Well, what a night! The parade was a hoot - I've always wanted to parade up Oxford street dressed as a dollar dazzler! Hmmmm. Great parade, great party, great scott! Its time for recovery. P.S. No-Good - I love you. Trouble - Sun Mar 2 15:48:21 1997 It was all great, especially the Pauline Hanson float. I loved all the Melbourne Tails, and I loved the music in both RHI and the Hordern. Music, men and magic all night. Why am I up now, but will be out again soon for Recovery. You all were great, sexy, handsome, fun and passionate, I love you. JonnyJo - Sun Mar 2 16:45:06 1997 Well I unfotunately had to miss the ball and parade, couldn't get out of this town on time (Vancouver), was looking so forward to coming home; it'll have to wait until next year. Just wanted to say thanx to all here and elsewhere for making my "virtual reality", a means of living vicariously throught he strong passion of all my bro's and sis'excitement leading up to and including the last few , what I'm sure were fine days. M.F.R. I was thinking of you strutting your stuff. It's hard not to live in the past sometimes, whatever your passion now all the happiness to you and yours, and hope your Mardi Gras was as exciting and rewarding as any past. Love you now and always will. Take Care. G.S.R. Your Canadain Connection - Mon Mar 3 4:34:37 1997 I think the best floats were the Keith Haring, the Amanda Vanstone Octopus, that big pink dog and the pink mouse that one of the computers was dragging along. If you missed the parade you can watch it on Channel 10 on 7th March at 9:30pm. I suppose that will be national (Australia). Panther - Mon Mar 3 17:08:50 1997 Great party. Fabulous time.Lots of absolutely gorgeous dykes. Mon Mar 3 21:48:44 1997 Well what can I say, I had the most fabulous time, starting with being in the parade as a 'dollar dazzler'!!, then partying all night with all my friends especially Trouble, then off to the Recoveries. It was a close tie between the Bar Cleveland and the Beresford, which I think put on the best Recovery in years... must be the new owners.. well done. No Good - Tue Mar 4 10:04:05 1997 Well what can I say, I had the most fabulous time, starting with being in the parade as a 'dollar dazzler'!!, then partying all night with all my friends especially Trouble, then off to the Recoveries. It was a close tie between the Bar Cleveland and the Beresford, which I think put on the best Recovery in years... must be the new owners.. well done. No Good - Tue Mar 4 14:10:20 1997 Had the time of our lives. best that we have ever done, wonderful sights and great feelings. Karumah Meeting Place - Tue Mar 4 14:17:37 1997 p.s. I met Phillipe of The V. P. in the gals toilets at the Beresford....ooh aah No Good - Tue Mar 4 14:31:41 1997 Well I'm home and slightly rested .... but my head and my feet are still thumping. Thanks Sydney for an Awesome Mardi Gras Weekend ..... the parde was great, the party was great, (the shows I missed but I heard they were great), the recovery was great, all the music was great (especially so at the Beachamp), and lets not forget all those great men, - 14 men in 5 days .... I totally blatsed myself ... it took me 4 hours from customs to get laid but I did get to have the same sex with the same man in the same place under the same pavillion. Thanks to you and see you again at Sleaze. ..... its 206 more sleeps to go, - 206 more sleeps 'till party, -206 more sleeps 'till the big fat man lies down in the trough and drinks your .....! 206 more sleeps 'till Sleaze Ball. Syn'er - Wed Mar 5 12:53:57 1997 I had a Fabuluos time at Mardi-Gras! This was definatly the biggest and the best ever! Trouble and No-Good looked fabulous, the music was Fantastic, as were the men. Sizzling Sunday at the Beauchamp was excelent too. Such a let down to be back in Brisbane, but cant wait to be back for Sleaze and the 20th Mardi-Gras 1998!!!! email: adam@thehub.com.au RED - Wed Mar 5 19:57:21 1997 Thurs night and I've just about recovered - faaaabulous party - great parade...I really think this was the best party for me - just can't stop dancing. So many hot sweaty bods. especially on the right of the RHI stage near the front!!!! Lots of feelies.....also, those vitamins worked wonders!!!! Thanks heaps everyone. See ya next time..... Thu Mar 6 21:42:21 1997 It was just too much fun, how about the dome, such good music, I'm still bopping!!!!!!! Joe - Fri Mar 7 3:02:15 1997 I am visiting this strange little collection of outpourings for the first time and I see that it is typically cluttered with all manner of gratuitous opinions. I have no idea who "Fans of Cobden" is but I don't see why the (inexplicable) use of my name should provoke an anti-Harben outburst from Betty Beatkweene. Interestingly enough, as these people are flinging our names around, what are we doing? Working out at the party, again, helping in any way we can. Well, it was its own reward. I also hope that S.M.@ p.c.a. is now clear on who Warren Gluck is. Quite why a visit to the HX site would have helped is not clear. It is a weekly magazine about New York, and this week Warren Gluck was in Sydney. It would not list the large number of major circuit parties he plays, even were he at home. Anyway, we can all live and learn. Richard Cobden - Fri Mar 7 14:39:12 1997 The telecast was better than last years effort by the ABC. Except editing that left some presenters and pictures cut-off mid-way. The music was good and you could hear the music of individual floats more clearly, which helped to re-create the atmosphere of the event. Maynard was cool, as was Bob Downe, Tottie was just ok. I still think that the best telecast was the first, for the 1994 parade, with presenters, Robyn Archer and Nick Enright. They were in my opinion the best presenters of the history of the Mardi-Gras Telecast so far. Bring them back for next years telecast!! All in all, a good effort Channel 10 Red - Sat Mar 8 16:41:06 1997 This is the first Mardi Gras party in the last ten years that I did not go to and also the most memorable one too! I didn't need two weeks to recover and I didn't get sick afterwards I went with my mate on a bike ride 700kms up north and enjoyed the fresh air and no-attitude straight pubs and got back to Sydney on Monday. Everyone I know said the party was good but nothing special just more mainstream and straight. "surprise, surprise! Give me a "Tropical Fruits" Party anytime. Gay & Not Tired. - Sun Mar 9 20:39:12 1997 Devotion 6 (Dance Party Wellington NZ Saturday 1 March) - What a way to recover from Mardi Gras - wow. Best yet etc etc etc. and a special thanks to the boy from Brisbane for the great time in the basement of the Town Hall ... oh and if you read this "Hi" to the secruity guard who found us but didn't stop us !! Syn'er - Mon Mar 10 7:20:09 1997 Dear Trouble - its too late, I missed your message, but I'm not sure that I was in any state to do anything at a recovery - because I had too good a time at the party. Glad to see that someone mentioned the music in the dome - was anyone there to hear Shakespear's Sister? and Buck Naked's encore of "Shout to the Top" - awesome. I hope that the tribe that took roost in the Dome comes back for Inquisition. Trouble - maybe I can get my hands on you there! PS - a special thankyou to Steve Carling for a fabulous fabulous set.
