Pinkboard: Mardi Gras 00 Parade and Party Graffiti Wall 2

The party is sold out and lots of people are trying to make a quick buck out of our community event by scalping their tickets. There are 2 international DJs, but will there be any internations acts? Surely who is going to look the most fabulous is more important. Or am I confusing the party with the parade?

For discussion of membership issues, including bisexual membership, please use the SGLMG Graffiti Wall.

purple.s Wow - First on the 2nd Board and in time to start getting excited about the Launch tomorrow night followed by a night of Caos at "hey homo" - lets just hope I can finish work in time.
Brad Wright - Thu Feb 10 23:02:51 2000

yellow.s The NiteGroove Team - Thu Feb 10 11:09:19 2000 ...Don't you think they would come up with someone new!
Fri Feb 11 12:04:14 2000
Warren Gluck is doing Atlantis. Is he also playing anywhere in Sydney over MG weekend?
Fri Feb 11 12:21:22 2000
Fri Feb 11 12:04:14 2000 - well, not really at all... not given their track record.
Fri Feb 11 12:29:27 2000
Don't go to Hey Homo, go to the Gay & Lesbian Rights Lobby party after the launch tonight. You'll be helping support an organization that make our lives better by fighting for our rights by making laws more fairer. Look at their successes last year with the Same-sex relationships bill. We now have the right to be by our partner's side should they have to be in hospital. We have the Right's Lobby to thank for this. And they still need our support to help make our lives even more "equal".
Post Launch part at Custom's House - Fri Feb 11 12:34:04 2000
The Lobby party costs too much - pity, I just can't do another party over $50 this year. Maybe next year. Who is Smokin' Jo-and what will the Arrivals Test Party be like?
Fastboy - Fri Feb 11 14:48:35 2000
purple.s Arrivals party will be Expensive. This is the only time of year that our venues actually work. Give them a go instead.
dirtycub - Fri Feb 11 14:52:18 2000
Arrivals is going to be one big cock suck!!
Fri Feb 11 15:36:23 2000
orange.s Fri Feb 11 15:36:23 2000 - Does that mean everyone is going to be sucking cock or it is going to be a crap party?
Fri Feb 11 15:48:43 2000
Shows - Shows - Shows . . . Rumour is out that they have agreed to have Paul Capsis be in the first show at MG. Heaven help us if that is the case!
Fri Feb 11 15:51:50 2000
Wayne G was himself blown away by the fact that his `new boyfriend' rolled on in. This new boyfriend is none other than a Super American Porn star who just so happens to be working on Cher's new album. Wayne oh Wayne, only you could land yourself such a man of many talents.
Hope wayne brings him to MG as well - Fri Feb 11 16:49:33 2000
Can You Feel The Love Tonight ...
Fri Feb 11 17:09:41 2000
red.s Paul Capsis knows nothing about a show @ MG. Hes creative, original, gay and Australian, why would Mardi Gras Party Committee even touch him?
Fri Feb 11 17:15:23 2000
red.s While sitting here listening to the MG 2000 CD, and considering the plethora of complaints and arguments here over the past few days about music stylesand what DJ'sdon't play, I thought of this. Most people who come here have at least heard the CD (mg 2000) or know someone who has got it. Well, how would you classify these?? Luke Leal, tracks 1,3,4,12 Sveta 1, 3, 12, 13 I am the first to admit my lack of knowledge about styles (apart from somewhat obvious ones), so those who argue about drum and bass, vs jungle vs cutting edge styles etc, put your name on the line. No cop outs either, with "Cheese", " trance trash" etc.
Mark and I'm ..curious?? - Fri Feb 11 21:11:56 2000
Just grabbing my CD. I love a challenge. lol. Hm, maybe I'll have to get back to you ...
EC - Fri Feb 11 21:40:37 2000
Well Sweet Release is a one of those 'nu trance-hi nrg' hybrids like Pray or forever by Tina Cousins. trance-bag some call it. Touched by God and Bulgarian are trance towards the commercial end of the spectrum. I think you'd have to describe Mardi Gras (the track) as disco. I wouldn't have a clue what to call the Abel el Toro track. And in fact I think I'll let someone else have a go at the Sveta CD because there's a fine line between trance and techno and progressive house sometimes and I don't feel like embarrassing myself.
EC - this is the opinion of the poster - Fri Feb 11 22:30:31 2000
That was a brave effort and much appreciated. I'm impressed by the way you put your initials on the line. Well done EC! Your description of hybrid Hi NRG / trance makes me feel a bit better as now I have something to work with when attempting to categorise something that crosses boundaries. Anyone else have an opinion on CD 1?? What about Sveta's???
Mark and I'm ...missing the launch, but enjoying the challenge. - Fri Feb 11 22:50:24 2000
Trance-bag? LOL! Love it! If I had the CD I'd love to help Mark.
TW - Fri Feb 11 23:09:29 2000
green.s I'd love to hear your thoughts on CD2 TW.I really enjoy music that crosses boundaries such as EC's "Trance - bag". BTW that description has made my night! If you know track 12 (Trommelmaschine - Der Dritte Raum), would you go towards electro/trance or euro something?? Am I way off the mark with that?
Mark and I'm .. glad this board has more than 1 ic(e) on ;-) - Sat Feb 12 0:10:29 2000

yellow.s CheEsE MuSIc RulEs !!!!
Sat Feb 12 10:28:34 2000
yellow.s Abel el Toro's track is probaly defined as hard house. Its 6 years old, I remember it used to be played at the old Sex and Subculture (original alternative MG partes). Funny how times change eh? Good on Sveta for going hard! Would have been nice to hear Luke and Sveta mix though, instead of Paul Goodyears computer editting.
Billys Blanks - Sat Feb 12 10:52:48 2000
love yas all on here...such well mannered people !!
Sat Feb 12 11:27:01 2000

What sort of drivel is that message above from JEM? Learn about punctuation dear and why don't you lay your music credentials on the line by categorising the music rather than criticising it. Your description of the CD is as Mark put it "a cop out".
I'll learn you good about . , " and ' ;-) - Sat Feb 12 15:35:06 2000
MM has the biggest dick of any DJ in San Fran. What better credentials do you need ?
Sat Feb 12 15:39:14 2000
Mardi Gras played the CD at the launch last night and it was hot!
Sat Feb 12 15:55:55 2000
Billy's Blanks - the CD was mixed live in Paul Goodyear's studio, not digitally, according to the DJs. Jeremy/JEM - you are illiterate and bit of a dickhead. No offence ;-)
EC - this is the opinion of the poster - Sat Feb 12 17:22:51 2000
EC, technowarrior, BND, Mr Panties what have you got that makes you such experts in the music/dance arena. My credentials are I have ears/eyes/heart/insight so to those who care stop winging and dance to the beat of a single drum.

Who's claiming to be an expert Jeremy? I'm just expressing an opinion as are the others here. Just like you, only in a more adult fashion. For someone with 'insight', your deleted comment was pretty appalling. Come back when you're a big boy.
EC - Sun Feb 13 20:34:48 2000
red.s so back to one of the main reasons for this wall....... hope im not bursting any bubbles but lets get the conversation back to the party,Shows and what we are all going to do for Mardi Gras 2000 lighten up a little ,life cant be that bad:)))
Mantra - Sun Feb 13 20:41:32 2000
Well I am having a very special outfit made by the kind people at Mephisto. The unveiling will be at the Party so I'll get a chance to show my "credentials" on the Dance floor. I would also like to take the opportunity to apologise to Sveta I was wrong to write that and Mr Panties is fully entitled to be mad with me as are EC techowarrior and the teacher and BND for being out of line I realise that I we are going move forward we can't all like the same music, clubs and drugs so again sorry people.
JEM feeling regret - Sun Feb 13 22:55:30 2000
And before anyone jumps on me about my grammar and spelling I had a very bad education.
JEM - Sun Feb 13 22:58:44 2000
loved the cd after the launch and everyone getting off dancing in the forecourt .A great venue for a party?
Mon Feb 14 3:01:08 2000
Sweet Release is a shocker though. Very "Sorrow Town".
Bye bye - Mon Feb 14 9:38:33 2000
Overheard some Americans talking outside the State Theatre on Saturday night. In the nicest possible way, they were commenting on how tacky and filthy Oxford Street is and how it isn't quite what they expected. Guess they are saying something we all well and truly know - stating the obvious. Even a power hose clean of the streets wouldn't go astray.
Mon Feb 14 10:45:56 2000
ooooh, better keep those Americans away from King st. now that is a filthy st !
Chi Chi Fontaine - Mon Feb 14 11:41:56 2000
Those Americans are absolutely right. Oxford st stinks of rubbish and stained beer. Why can't South Sydney Council do up the footpaths abit better little has been done in the Paddington end of Oxford st. You'd think that they'd treat such a revenue raising area in a bit better shape. Perhaps things will improve when Gilligan's island is converted (and we begin to treat the place abit better as well)
Mon Feb 14 12:32:54 2000
should read "like has been done in the Paddington end"

Joseph Woods is a lover of handbag music at the ripe old age of 23 he is open to all sorts of varieties in music from steps to sClud7. Regretably all that yukky trance junk has infiltrated every single venue except Ceasars and the Taxi. Amil sales must be way down. At Mardi Gras it is going be awful (after reading the DJ list) so I'm going to start a demonstration to ensure we keep our handbag out of the evil clutches of some of those evil wordless devil worshipping Dj's that hate anthems and dairy based music. So come girls don't go for second best put your love to the test!

I have certain cultural history... could it be me??
The idiot formerly known as... (what kind of a hint is that?) - Mon Feb 14 17:53:09 2000
I heard Luke Leal say on radio "I went to Paul Goodyears studio and loaded all the tracks on to the computer." Doest really sound like a "live mix" EC
Billy's Blanks - Mon Feb 14 18:57:12 2000
red.s Remember that the boy with the "cultural history" has already been there / done that. How many times can he bow down Mister? P.s. Wish he would do "Love is leaving". But I do second the call for further rumours!
Mark and I'm ..... - Mon Feb 14 21:51:43 2000
It could well be you F*******. A duet with Paul Capsis on Can You Feel The Love Tonight perhaps? the rumour department sure is lacking. okay Billy, I admit that doesn't sound like a live mix, though it's open to interpretation. Sveta says the mixing was done live in the studio. 'shrugs'
EC - Mon Feb 14 22:09:28 2000
yeah right. that awful band from the 80's with it's awful singer/dj is flying out of the country on the monday before the party. headed to somewhere in asia. thank you Budha !

Cafe Queen - Tue Feb 15 8:57:31 2000
Passport to Passion???? They really believe that after reading this board?
Tue Feb 15 9:20:38 2000
The deal with the MG CD - was mixed live from vinyl into the computer, Luke's CD went over time a c ouple of minutes, and segments of tracks were edited. The actually mixes were live and clean and not fiddled. Vinyl noise during quiet periods were removed during mastering. End of story.
Insider - Tue Feb 15 11:52:04 2000
purple.s End of story? You can hear the cutn'paste action right thru the mix.Especially Sveta's! Very Kylie - studio wizardry will get you anywhere.

Wed Feb 16 0:03:26 2000
Wouldn't it be good if Kylie and Danni did a Duet and Brendan did the video for MG. Then Beyond could sell it through the Leeson distribution arm of Kmardi Gras inc. At Fair Day the pre publicity launch at the 2gay free fm Payneful dance music tent and with all the white perfectly buffed bods doing crack waxes it would all go hand in hand. I would expect an icee reception from the leader of the pack.See all of you individuals and approved clients around.

Wed Feb 16 12:03:32 2000
Yes please note this wall is about MG/Party and is supposed to be fun. Piss off re the good/bad mixing of the MG CD. It sounds great and the majority of people would not be able to tell where it was mixed/made/cut/paste or whatever. Please Inside Informer , any good rumours yet ?

red.s Who cares who plays and who does the shows as long as the music is good, the company fun, and the night fantastic. Really, to much is made of the DJs and the shows, at least that is what I think! If the DJs play good music, and keep the crowd pumping then a good time is had by all. If the shows are entertaining and fun, then who cares whether it is Kylie, Babs, Paul Capsis or Lypsynca ... most people are too off the planet to care by that stage anyway. Remember ... the Mardi Gras Dance Party is a night for OUR community to celebrate and have fun.

Anyone else going to Rezerection at Palladium this Saturday night? The thought of the place being raided with the sex on premises stuff which will be going on, has me a little worry. Then again there will probably be at least 100 solicitors there in their undies. I'm in safe hands.
Thu Feb 17 15:17:50 2000
Ah Bette. She did say yes two years ago.
Thu Feb 17 15:33:35 2000
a show in Dome !
Thu Feb 17 15:45:40 2000
Posts re police targetting sex on premises is just crap from promoters who are trying to limit the success of some parties. Capacity issues are primarily on the target list, so one would think Taylor Square is going to attarct the most attention. No veneue has ever been done for sex on premises, and there have been a lot more raunchy parties than Ice, Black or Ressurrection.
Thu Feb 17 17:49:05 2000
I heard there was 2 guys tongue kissing at one of the Fwisky parties. the police should close down the next Fwisky !
Mr Panties - Thu Feb 17 18:28:02 2000
From memory (if there a a few cells left) last years wall was more about the gossipy bits of who would be appearing, whether or not the space was crap or not, where is troughman, how long until the lights get pulled out in the toilets and debauchery starts, the costumes the drama the intrigue!!! Not the Dj's or cd... (of course it may sound like a bad episode of the Bad and the Bountiful but its all adds up to the lead up rush to it all) I'd love to read more of that vein of ideas How many Madonna rumours can we start this year? Will Kylie ***still*** be appearing in 40 years in her Zimmer frame with Danni as the bearded girl from her 23rd facelift? Boy George/George Michael/Cher (with lesbian daughter?) or will someone come up with something wildly creative ***or*** it will still be Mogadonna synching away (god love her!!) I had decided not to go to the MG party but have succumbed as I am in the parade for the first time and would love to know who I am going to miss THIS year due to be being in the wrong place at the right time or snogging the first american (or 2nd or 3rd) I meet? Any leads Mardi Gras Sleuths? happy gras XXX ps I heard Prince Andrew was going to come over for his "Official coming out" and was going to be joined by Lily Savage in a rendition of "I am what I am" accompanied by elton pps No Im not pretesting the Mardi Gras party favours

KweerKid - Thu Feb 17 23:34:09 2000
I am definitely looking at doing an alternative party to Mardi Gras at my Hotel in Erskinville. I am going to invite all of my friends BYO petrol and matches.
Dawn - Thu Feb 17 23:55:39 2000
Let's see how long the above posts last. I'd wager that Richard, Jimmy, Fred and Dawn will have vanished come the morning. Okay, let's discount the obviously stupid and go back to the rumour that the playing of Macarther Park as the last track at Pride 2000 really was a request from Mardi Gras. Would they let the cat out of the bag so easily? Is it really Bette, who said two years ago that she would be love to do MG? And then there's k d lang who said she 'might' do MG 2000. Anyone else? Or has Glenn Horder decided that the international acts are more trouble than they're worth? Don't waste more time on Barbra, Madonna, Cher or Janet, please.

I swear if I see any of you whining/bitching queens frumping around about the music I will ask security to remove you. I want some fun. Last night Monsignor Porca Madonna appeared on that fantastic outfm show Entertainment Last Night and revirginated Sydney, blessed Mardi Gras and announced his intention to run for the position of the special secretariat to the gay and lesbian community of Rome!! I was aghast until my sense of innocence grew back... they were also offering helpful hints on inexpensive entertainment while we save our pennies for the big night...its out there and its on thursdays at 11pm. purple.s There's a Starman....Heres one out of left field- saw Culture Club in Singapore last night, and it was great (if a bit surreal)! He even does Bowie's Starman very, very well! Could do worse for Mardi Gras! Just an idea, see you at MG!

Morty - Sat Feb 19 20:04:14 2000
How f***ing sold out can a party be? Really? You want more people who have nothing to do with the gay and lesbian community at the parties do you? Im sure all the poofters and dykes who miss out because of that will thank you for your opinion.
Sat Feb 19 3:04:46 2000
Who cares if the shows are broadcast!! Really there are others things that you should be getting pissed off about like our being discriminated against by the law. When was the last time you saw 20,000 people down in front of parliament house at a rally?? Never. Get your priorities sorted out.
Get over it - Sat Feb 19 8:46:28 2000
Sleaze has never sold out (in the ticket sense)
Sat Feb 19 9:07:48 2000
Sleaze sold out once actually and the harrassment of everyone by the huge influx of non-queer-identifying-persons probably led to the downturn in numbers from which it has never really recovered. To Get Over It: you make very large assumptions in concluding that people who think Mardi Gras should remain a private party for members don't also care about discrimination or attend rallies. If the Murdochs get their way on this, what are they going to demand next year and the year after?
Sat Feb 19 16:29:20 2000
celebrate More money and less of us...
Sat Feb 19 19:16:21 2000
Sat Feb 19 16:29:20 2000 - Even if I accept your theory that party boys and girls actually care about politics, that would mean that only 10% of MG party goers actually attended the rallies, as the rallies averaged around 2,000 people according to the Right Lobby. And that 10% is still assuming that party goers were the Only ones who attended the rallies (which is clearly not the case). 10% is still a dismal turnout.

Is the Arrivals Party really sold out? It says so in the index the the latest SSO Mardi Gras paper.
Sun Feb 20 10:25:40 2000
The shows are not the issue. The broadcast from inside the party is the issue. Once the foot is in the door do you think it would stop there? Not that there definitely one.
Sun Feb 20 11:21:07 2000
green.s if you're not at fair day, get your ass down there now ! there's an orgy in the mens toilets @ the pool & when I was there, a certain DJ was getting gang-banged !

Sun Feb 20 16:49:55 2000
Have I missed something here...Mardi Gras is broadcasting the shows..??? If so, who to..?? What channel? What time? If this is the case I will be setting my VCR because I know for one I will miss one/most of them - as per usual. I dont see what the problem is.. They broadcast to "home" nightclub last year... big deal if they broadcast, let the world see how we party!
James - Sun Feb 20 17:58:42 2000
green.s A big Happy Mardi Gras to everybody. I sincerely hope that everyone will be able to chill out on the night of the party, find some music you really get into, meet some fantastic people to party with (as well as your friends) and generally have a brilliant time based on your own likes and tastes...and remember we all have freedom of music and MG Hall choice...without that where would we be?
Thank god for diversity... - Sun Feb 20 18:09:18 2000
you get to pick a track to hear at the party.... something you havent heard for years or maybe never heard played before.... something that really rocks you... this track will make your night... something really obscure perhaps ? what do you choose ? you only get one choice, so make it a good one : )
ElectricBoy - Mon Feb 21 1:04:59 2000

Mr Panties - Mon Feb 21 1:09:53 2000

Surrender Yourself - The Daou
Mr Panties - Mon Feb 21 1:48:15 2000
So what if there are broadcasts from inside the MG party. The party is after all a fundraising event and if they can get a whole heap of money from a telelcast from the party then why not. MG is not about the party. The party is a fundraising event.
One more time for the dummies - Mon Feb 21 8:00:17 2000
Like the rest of the world, MG appears to be into how much money they can make by selling off community assets. The problem is that they still don't consult us about these things, but only ever confirm them as a fait acomplit. There is no room for community debate on how to make them better.
Mon Feb 21 8:56:16 2000
Right Here, Right Now - Disco Citizens.
Mon Feb 21 9:09:47 2000
I'm impressed with The Dauo reference, Mr Panties - especially if in the Dome, perhaps you should send this message to Bill Cotszis. Even better, he could play Danny Tenaglia's Bottom Heavy.
Mon Feb 21 9:17:09 2000
Mon Feb 21 8:56:16 2000 - Selling off community assets?? It's a show for crying out loud (and not always very good ones either). You cannot compare this with the Ticketek episode because that was about people's privacy, not about people wanting something as stupid the shows to remain exclusive to the party goers. The party is a fundraiser - so let them raise as much funds as they can from the party so that we can enjoy an even better festival.

this is all very interesting, but nobody has named the dj that was in the toilets at fair day ! tell me tell me tell me !. . re: Bottom Heavy - I've heard that track too many times in Dome. I really want to hear Surrender Yourself or Acperience by Hardfloor. Mandy, Scott & Bill - did you hear me ?
Mr Panties - Mon Feb 21 12:48:52 2000
Sorry, you don't seem to get it dumb dumb. Fox controls the showgrounds - a kind gift from the ALP sacred cow - and it charges Mardi Gras nopw $300 000 to stage the party. You think it's going to pay for any of this. oh ho ho. more likely it will agree to charge less for the attendants in the toilets all night.
Mon Feb 21 13:46:03 2000
Fox controls/owns the O LD showgrounds.
Move the party to Homebush - Mon Feb 21 14:17:23 2000
if you want the party to move to Homebush (I think it's a much better venue) does the parade go all the way along Parramatta rd ? oooh, those poor marching boys
Mr Blackwell - Mon Feb 21 14:57:16 2000
Good idea actually. The parade needs a shake up, it's been very bland and ordinary of late
Mon Feb 21 15:08:51 2000
Also if the Parade went all the way along Parramatta Road, that would spread the crowd out and everyone would get a better view.
a lateral thinker - Mon Feb 21 15:14:27 2000
A tough decision but I'd go for "The First Rebirth" by Jones and Stephenson as first choice. Classic trance from 1995.
Nat - Mon Feb 21 15:14:28 2000
Mr Panties - I now feel like I've missed an essential experience, have never heard Bottom Heavy, but ce la vie. Surrender yourself is OK, but would much rather "Are You Satisfied?" It has more of the bump & grind that I need.

Mr Panties - I was thinking about it, and if I wanted something that would make me faint, I'd take Kim English "I Know A Place" - the E-Smooth mix. Maybe a bit vocal for some - but she really will take me there, failing that, Hani's dub of Delacy's "That Look" - and you have a sense of humour and taste too!
Lovin' It - Mon Feb 21 20:21:42 2000

yellow.s Tue Feb 22 8:57:32 2000 - basically it means there's a thin line between profiteering (what Mardi Gras does) and scalping. At the end of the day everyone is making a buck out of being queer - the Mardi Gras Board, the Sponsors, pubs, cafes, drug dealers and even members who scalp tickets. I guess at least most of the money goes back into the community one way or another as we all have to eat, drink & be merry over the next few weeks.

Profit after tax for last year was $11,577 from a turn over of more than $5 million. Where is all the money going then, you can' tell me that they are giving that money to all the communitee groups that are around. I can actually name one community organisation which MG has never given funds to.

orange.s Scalped, you are a bore. Go and preach your bland negativity elsewhere. I'm sure I'm not the only one who gets tired of hearing complaint after complaint and how we are always getting screwed (so to speak). MG can no longer run on a shoestring budget as in the late 70's and early 80's. Change is a fact of life. Parties and parades cost money (and alot of it), despite the goodwill of many individuals and organisations. The beauty of change is that it presents everyone with a choice. Move along or move out. If you choose to whinge and wine, go that lttle further and don't be a part of the festival, party, parade etc but allow those who wish to remain the opportunity to enjoy and celebrate.
Let's all enjoy the next 2 weeks - Tue Feb 22 21:41:18 2000
O.K. Guys, this is our time to rejoice in who we are. Nowhere else in the world is our gayness so accepted as in February in Sydney N.S.W. Australia. The world and the internet is watching. Olympics happen every 4 years and are no big deal. S.G.L.M.G. is! One only has to read the coming out wall, to see that people from other countries look to us for leadership, advice, and respect us for our forthrightness. In this month let us hold ourselves proud, give due respect to the Committee for a job few would take on and be proud to be part of a greater gay community. The bitching can start in March. >>>>>>>>>>>>>Horry

red.s Tue Feb 22 19:19:13 2000 I wasnt saying anything about what it costs to put the party on, I know it costs a lot. What I am saying is there are some people making a lot of money that shouldnt be getting a thing. Does MG call for tenders for supply of goods for the party sound equipment/lights etc, or do they go to the same company every year. I know that there is a lot of waste going on MG should not be throwing the money around like it does. They should be a lot more frugal in the business dealings.

Scalped, I agree with everything you've said in your last posting. There is a problem with the gay community becoming an a mainstream "in" crowd because it means that there will then inevitably be people left on the periphery. I don't know what the gay community was like in the 70s but I imagine that it was a much more friendlier place and that because everyone was so different (and marginalised by the mainstream) that that difference between the members of the gay community was celebrated.

I think I got a glimpse of what that must of felt like when I went to the Chinese New Year - it being a marginalised community within a marginalised community (ie. racist Australia and homophobic ethnic community as well as homophobic Australia and racist gay community). This event was so relaxed. Everyone had a smile on their face and everyone was welcomed regardless of race, sexuality or anything else for that matter. And it wasn't the organisers who instilled this atmosphere - it was the people who attended - each and everyone one of us helped create the feeling of inclusion and acceptance for all.

I don't know if Asian Gay and Lesbian Pride marching in the Chinese New Year parade for the first time helped to make the event even more special - but I do think that the feeling present that night is something that alot of people are trying to re-capture. And that that feeling which was once a part of the gay community vanishing from our community is one of the main reasons that people are getting more and more disullisioned with MG and the commercial gay scene. But there are people out there who want bisexuals, and asians, and indegineous australians, and people from all the infinite diversities of the rainbow to be a part of our community.

PS. I still think that you are wrong about scalped ticket money coming back into the community ;)

Picture this boys - no offence to the girls - If I could I'd make this world a better place.. back to my vision . The location is the Dome - you've got a brilliant look together your feeling a goey and sexy inside, the music is transporting you to the place where you dream about, the lighting and atmosphere in the room is positively climactic. As the intellegent lighting system sweeps the environment. The bass from the subs vibrate each muscle in your body. Suddenly the Euphoric sensation from various things you've "done" start to take hold of you, the clock strikes 4-00 am and through the smoke/haze bellowing out of the rig you catch a glimpse of....... the legend of the night the enigma that is Mr Panties oh yes the vision is real the movement of his body to the pulsating audio if there is a God ( or like) let this occur. I can only count the days and wait to see if my ultimate fantasy will be realised. His moves, his beauty, his power oh I can't stand it I need another lude to calm myself. Till the varilite/technobeam etc reveals your position at the Party - my heart be still till our day dothe come. all of my love. sweet prince of the night.

I am not in the mood for heavy trance/house all night and would like to vary it a bit. Anyone with any news on this, please let me know. Not really the baord for this, but the last post deserves a reply. Free will also be brodcasting the parade. Out is not a going concern, and Free gives money to community groups. And people actually listen to it!

For God's Sake! Some of you may have read the story on Page 1 of the Sydney Morning Herald today (24/02/2000). Cardinal Clancy, Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney and the Anglican Archbishop of Sydney, Harry Goodhew, have condemned Mardi Gras saying our Parade is little more than a 'highly erotic and gross way' of promoting a homosexual lifestyle. News no doubt to the hundreds of community groups and individuals who march under flags as broad as Pflag, the HIV/AIDS remembrance section, the religious groups including - Anglicans,Catholics, Jewish groups, Uniting Church, Quakers, Latter Day Saints, and dozens of other groups who represent the diversity of the gay and lesbian community and the richness of gay and lesbian experience. WE ask you to respond to this outmoded and bigoted view. Below is some information from the Lobby. Make a stand for acceptance. "Archbishop Goodhew calls upon us to reflect on the values that support for the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras implicitly endorses. This led us to consider the values and characteristics Mardi Gras not only supports but embodies. Here are a few: resistance to oppression, hatred and violence; support for human rights; service to the community; fabulousness; acceptance; hope in the face of illness; the coming together of diverse groups and individuals in a spirit of co-operation; reconciliation; unity; a fair go for all? These values deserve support. In contrast, intolerance and hatred are values which create division and can only impoverish those who embrace them." Mardi Gras and the Lobby are encouraging people to write brief letters as individuals not only to the Herald but other papers who have covered it. Letters from religious organisations disagreeing with the views of the bishops would also be very helpful. You might also want to ring talkback radio if you hear adverse comment. The address for the Herald is letters@smh.fairfax.com.au You will need to include a home address and day and evening contact number for verification purposes. Additional points you might want to consider if writing include:
  1. the level of support MG has as evidenced by number of spectators (750,000 to a million expected at event plus broadcasts)
  2. their attitude legitimates violence
  3. the effect of such comments on individuals especially young people who may be vulnerable. They mention protection of children and young people but the attitudes they support do not protect but adversely affect self-esteem and can be a factor in youth suicide etc.
  4. also alienates those with religious beliefs from the Church (this point is best made from a personal perspective and by those who have religious beliefs stating how it makes you feel)
  5. they are asking the State government and pollies to reconsider their support. If this implies it is funded by the government it is misleading. If not, what does it mean? Is this a thinly veiled attack upon the freedoms enjoyed and generally taken for granted by NSW citizens ie do they want it banned?
  6. brings many benefits to Sydney - not only the pink dollar but international profile and respect and just the joy it brings to the individuals who watch it and participate in it
  7. wouldnt be possible without the hundreds of thousands of hours of unpaid labour of ordinary gay men and lesbians. And floats and costumes usually made at people's own expense
  8. its a year when the Catholic Church is acknowledging some of the terrible injustices of its past which were brought about by bigotry to those who were different or disagreed with its teachings (inquisition et al). Perhaps its time it not only acknowledged these mistakes but addressed the attitudes that caused them.
There are many others you may think of. Hey - Happy Mardi Gras

This is from www.thecircuitdog.com. "The schedule for Miami's Winter Party is really solid considering it is the same weekend as New Orleans's Mardi Gras. Victor Calderone will be performing at Crobar @ the Cameo on Sunday, March 5 during Winter Party Weekend. This official Winter Party event is being produced by Dade Human Rights Foundation and will be on the host and weekend passes." So I guess he will be flying straight from Mardi Gras on Sunday morning and with time differences will be able to play in Miami on Sunday night. QF 107 departs Sydney 12.50 on Sunday and he can connect with an American Airlines flight from LAX to arrive in Miami at 5.50pm Sunday night. What a life !!!!!

TW: Dave Chambers is a UK DJ, regular at places like Ministry. He's been out here about 3 times now and plays pretty hard - progressive, techno, hard house. If he is playing Home it would be a pretty good combo with Alex Taylor. But wouldn't you rather come and dance with us at ICE?
EC - Sat Feb 26 3:43:51 2000
Wayne G is the undisputed Queen of Handbag. It might not be the cutting edge of dance music, it's not be the coolest sound to be linked with, but witness the dancefloor at Heaven on a Saturday night and you'll notice two facts; it works and queens love it. His five hour sets attract a young, unpretentious crowd who like singing along to favourites and throwing hands in the air. They travel from up and down the country, parts of Europe and even from New York to hear his infectious mix of clutch-bag and trance-purse.

Three people were taken to hospital in a semi-conscious state after taking illicit drugs at an overnight rave party, the ambulance service said. All three had taken GBH, gaba-hydroxybutyric-acid, also known as 'grievous bodily harm' at a party held at Lady Macquarie's Chair in Sydney's Botanic Gardens, a spokeswoman said. One man was taken from the gardens to St Vincent's Hospital shortly after midnight in a semi-conscious state. Another two people among the partygoers, who went from the gardens to the Home nightclub in Darling Harbour, were taken to hospital early today. A man was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital shortly before 4am and a woman was taken to St Vincent's shortly after 5am. "Both had taken GBH at the rave party earlier," the spokeswoman said. The incidents followed last weekend's death of a 26-year-old Ryde supermarket manager who took ecstasy at a rave party on the outskirts of Sydney.

Blasphemy - Mon Feb 28 15:35:34 2000
Calling a dance party a 'rave' immediately conjures up a particular vision for the reader - young kids on hard drugs, face masks, radiation suits etc etc. The journalists who write these things know what they are doing and the fact that they themselves probably use the same drugs doesn't stop them. Nor apparently does the fact that they work for a broadsheet and not a tabloid, and one which makes a lot of money out of Mardi Gras.

The club will be closed at 6am and reopened at 7am for our MediKation ticket holders only. 8 DJs over 8 hours, including Alex Taylor, Luke Leal, CoCo, Lexie, Baby Bear and two internationals. With the name MediKation, some of you should be able to guess who one of the internationals is! Tix ar $15 for holders of Ice, Hey Homo, Out and Frisky ticket holders, and $20 for everyone else, available from Butch, Daly Mail and Mephisto. "Hey Paula" is a classic ! I've been looking for that on CD ever since my cassingle got stolen out of my bum-bag @ Fair Day '94 (I suspect Gary Leeson, but I could be wrong) FYI, Kelly Marie died of anorexia. she wont be singing a thing at Fwisky. all the work experience girls from my office are going to Fwisky.

Just wanted to post my comment regarding smoking on the dance floor at the party - please guys if you are going to smoke, do so off the dancefloor and watch out where you are waving that cigarette. I have been unfortunate many a times to be struck by cigarettes on my skin and believe me it does burn, not to mention the scars left afterwards. I don't mind others smoking, as long as they do it in a clear space where they cannot do any harm to partygoers. Please pass this onto fellow smokers and let's all have a great Mardi Gras party and celebrate our pride in a friendly and fun atmosphere.
Babyface - Tue Feb 29 21:18:02 2000
Second the motion. It's not as if there aren't enough places to smoke. It's just stupid smoking on a packed dancefloor. And while we're at it, wouldn't it be great if everyone who feels they must drop their empty water bottle on the dancefloor could at least step on it so we aren't knee deep in them by 8am?

How did The Sling party go last night ?????
Wed Mar 1 11:37:51 2000
And no drag queens on the floor with wigs higher than 30cm either.
EC - Wed Mar 1 13:36:49 2000
Vanessa Amorosi (boooooooooo)
thanks for nothing Glenda - Wed Mar 1 14:45:42 2000
yellow.s Alan X the DJ sux! Please don't let him spin any whre else while in Sydney. The cringe factor was way too high @ Home.
hope hes on first, for a short time only @ IcE - Wed Mar 1 15:02:10 2000
He will be playing his Trade set at Ice, strictly no "Three are Family"
Wed Mar 1 15:11:23 2000
So the word from Roadshow Music is that Darren from Savage Garden is back home from San Francisco and is going to use MG as his "coming out" party. Does that mean he'll perform ... on stage ... ? or just in the toilets. Here's hopin'.
Connections - Wed Mar 1 17:54:11 2000
green.s popped down to the party site this afternoon. I liked what I saw! the lights look great in all 3 halls. there's no stage in the Hordern, but a huge one in RHI (up the far end) I evesdropped on "someones" conversation reguarding who the suprise performers are (I aint sayin a word! this secret is too much fun to hold on to) I noticed that there's gonna be 2 separate DJ set ups in the Hordern. one for Sveta (without rotary knob mixer) and one for the other guy that's playing in there (he demanded a Rane rotary mixer *wank*) I may or may bnot spill a few beans a bit later.
Mr Panties - Wed Mar 1 18:17:15 2000
You are all wrong about Frisky. Don't listen to the rumours - for those with tickets, you should be pleasantly surprised at the performance and song. Mr Panties et al are just stirring the usual crap based on tall poppy syndrome.
Wed Mar 1 19:23:03 2000
Wayne G will be playing a two hour hard set on Free FM Friday night, 10pm to midnight.
Wed Mar 1 19:43:30 2000
I believe you can't control of change your sexuality. I believe that trust is more important than monogamy.
Wed Mar 1 19:49:45 2000
I agree with the above post - Mr Blackwell, Mr Panties and Lovin It you should all take a good look at yourselves please stop slagging off my favourite artists. Have you ever been mellow?
* (former fan) and bunny worshipper - Wed Mar 1 19:59:19 2000
Jeremy, you're a boy of many faces.
Wed Mar 1 20:05:35 2000
red.s Wayne G - another reason to tune to Out FM 94.5.
Out Fan - Wed Mar 1 22:31:07 2000
That Panther is a deft hand at removing ads. lol
Wed Mar 1 22:33:33 2000
Out Fan - you are absolutely right, coz Wayne G will be playing at Out on Friday night as well! It is good to see you are a Wayne G fan!
Wed Mar 1 22:38:42 2000
Is he ...oh my God yuk what is Out coming to !
Out Fan - Wed Mar 1 22:45:54 2000
purple.s This year's parade is going to be the best and most accessible. Its on the net at www.mardigras.com.au and broadcast live on Out FM 94.5 and on their website www.outfm.com.au and is also on Pay TV Foxtel and Optus & Austar hosted by Out Fm's Gillian Minnervini. How cool!
Out Fan - Wed Mar 1 22:49:08 2000
"fan" + "jeremy" + "streaks 4 days" + "Jem" = the same guy
Thu Mar 2 0:06:27 2000
call her "Miss Ross"
Thu Mar 2 0:25:00 2000
sssshhhh! hehe
Thu Mar 2 1:23:49 2000
What, has she fallen so far that less than a million will suffice this year? Well, that's everyone accounted for except Tina Turner I think. Should be a show every half an hour with all these megastars appearing.
Thu Mar 2 2:35:32 2000
Don't assume it's Diana. The Miss Ross reference could be RuPaul. Ru uses that line ("Call me, Miss Ross") in one of her songs (Back to My Roots, I think).
Thu Mar 2 6:36:13 2000
It's Bryan Adams
Thu Mar 2 7:52:08 2000
Any news yet " Inside Informer " pretty please.......I don't want to waste time in the RHI sardine can for someone I'm not interested in.
Thu Mar 2 9:04:59 2000
if you wanna watch shows, go to a "rock estedford" if you wanna dance, go to a dance party. please dont take up valuable space staring at the stage all night and not dancing. the Black Eena & her Special Girlfriends are in the Cabaret Hall, go and watch them. there great.
Coco La Chicci - Thu Mar 2 12:24:49 2000
Okay. The good news or the bad? Guess it depends on your perspective. There are no live acts, international or otherwise. Barbra Streisand was originally arriving on Friday and had agreed to sing (hard to believe I know, but true) provided everything was ship shape and up to her standards. She will not now be arriving until Sunday morning. The Xanadu story was not totally off the mark, but no go there either. Look out for Olivia in the parade VIP viewing area. Negotiations with Jocelyn Brown also came to nought. Have a great party, dance a lot, and enjoy the local talent. At least you won't have to stand in a sweaty crowd for hours waiting for some name or other.
The Phantom Insider - Thu Mar 2 13:28:52 2000
Just arrived home from Oxford Street. And the buzz on the street is definitely Savage Garden. The rumour is spreading like wild fire.
Back to you Jessica - Thu Mar 2 13:29:16 2000
The guest is John Howard singing I Feel Love
Thu Mar 2 13:30:01 2000
The Phantom has finally spoken. This little puppy is now very very sad indeed.
Thu Mar 2 13:55:32 2000
Just arrived home from London this morning. (God it feels like we live at the end of the world) anyhow, sitting 2 rows infront of me was Mr Tom Jones. Well.. I couldn't help my self and had to chat with him. Lovely man. He is in Sydney for the recording of the NRL finals series song. He confirmed with me that they have had discussion with SGLM and have worked up a dance version of "What a Man" which is currently playing on the TV. He said that if the negotiations with SGLM come through this afternoon they will he will be ONE of the guests at the party. Could mean "if the cheque clears"
Thu Mar 2 14:00:12 2000
How about Cher, Donna Summer, Jocelyn Brown, Savage Garden, Janet, Madonna, Tom Jones and Olivia Newton John singing we are the world??? Now if that's not ridiculous nothing is!!!
The Phantom Outsider - Thu Mar 2 14:11:06 2000
Phantom: Let Gary Leeson back to produce it- now that is ridiculous....lol
MsThing - Thu Mar 2 14:20:34 2000
No, you got the performers right, but they're singing We Are Family!
Thu Mar 2 14:20:53 2000
Tina Cousins is performing at 1am in the cloak room
Mr Panties - Thu Mar 2 14:33:59 2000
Fwisky has a cloak woom?
Thu Mar 2 14:35:54 2000
If it's We are Family we'd better add the Minogues in as well.
The Phantom Outsider - Thu Mar 2 14:38:35 2000
red.s For those that have been suggesting it, Cher is playing Philadelphia, PA on Saturday night. Guess that counts her out.
Treasure - Thu Mar 2 14:45:19 2000
Q: Why is it that they do not allow Cameras at the party. I had promised photos to friends from the last Sleaze ball to find out that you can't bring them in??
Thu Mar 2 15:56:17 2000
Hm, one of the shows is Sex Bomb ... so maybe the Tom story has some substance. Shame about Barbra, not that I'm a fan or anything but hey, how often do you get an experience like that for less than $1500.
EC - Thu Mar 2 15:57:48 2000
Fancy making promises you couldn't keep. The party is a private event and who knows where the photos would end up. Imagine if someone snapped a pic of you totally trashed and on your knees in the middle of the Dome ...
Thu Mar 2 16:18:19 2000
I like the idea of being totally trashed and on my knees in the middle of the Dome.....But I do get your point! thanks.
Thu Mar 2 16:25:32 2000
The second show is indeed Sex Bomb, so I suppose there is a possibility that Tom Jones will be making a live appearance. If so, some rather key people appear to be in the dark about it. But take along a pair of well worn Calvins to toss on stage just in case.
The Phantom Insider - Thu Mar 2 17:30:46 2000
Not sure if it is true but, it was given to me by someone of great credibility .Tess tickle is the opening show!
Thu Mar 2 18:13:22 2000
Balls
Thu Mar 2 18:16:37 2000
No International Acts. Paul Capsis open & Vanessa A @ some other point.
Thu Mar 2 19:02:32 2000
It could only be to close, but I can't see it. Too already done.
Thu Mar 2 21:24:42 2000
Off topic messages about radio stations deleted.
Loved the rumour in todays Daily Terrorgraph about George Michael and Geri haliwell walking up Oxford st, but as much as I wish it ws the trashy diva and consort surely I would have had 37 queens on the phone in an hour?
KweerKid a.k.a. Captain Queer!!! (purple cape!) - Fri Mar 3 1:03:40 2000
It was actually Lance Leopard and Simone Troy. Hard to pick.
Fri Mar 3 1:19:26 2000
blue.s oohwaah ! there was some "unusual looking" guys at the Arrivals Party tonight. my friends & I played "who has the worst haircut here" we saw a Michael Bolton spiral perm number (U.S.A) a very special haircut we called "the pixie" (brisbane) a few american flag bandanas (actually worn on the head!) hmmm, I'd better stop before someone accuses me of being a bitch.
Mr Panties - Fri Mar 3 2:42:45 2000
Thank you Inside Informer, won't be squashing it out in the RHI in hope.Although Tom Jones could be an interesting show. Have a great time everyone.
Luv - Fri Mar 3 9:37:34 2000
How many timed do I have to say post your messages on one wall only?
Does anyone know the times the shows in RHI will be on ? Any updates on who will perform and at what time ? Thanks

I'm hoping for a bunch of raunchy lesbian drag -kings doing "what a man, what a mighty fine man" with Tom Jones at 3 in the RHI. Have I got the time right?
fanny - Fri Mar 3 16:05:09 2000
That would be great to see Tom and the drag-kings. Pleaseeeeeeeeee inside Inside Informer is the time ( and guest ) right for 3am ? Thanks
Fri Mar 3 16:22:27 2000
green.s Tom Jones aint coming!! Its another McMardiGras-Mime Inc. Show. The girls will be hot to trot but!
Fri Mar 3 16:31:36 2000
Well the Village People did only close the party a couple of years ago ... maybe and earlier performance?
Treasure - Fri Mar 3 17:52:41 2000
red.s By what the cowboy described the group as atlast Saturday's concert,"a bunch of party whores", I would suspect the Village people to be on the dance floor more than the stage! Happy Mardi Gras everyone
Mark and I'm ......ready and hyperactive - Fri Mar 3 18:54:00 2000
There is more to MG than the (fundraising) party. Let MG had broadcasts from Fair Day. I think that you should be lobbying for broadcasts from other events such as The Stars Come Out or The Great Debate instead of the stupid thump thump thump dance music from the party.
Over the party. - Fri Mar 3 19:04:49 2000
red.s Fred Nile will no doubt be at the Parade for one reason only, TO SEE IT. He hides behind the religious gimic so that he can be there and still hold face.. He watches with eyes wide open........
Fri Mar 3 20:39:18 2000
Sorry to burst your bubble darlgin, but Fred Nile leaves as soon as the parade starts.
Fri Mar 3 22:47:17 2000
Just in case I don't get another chance before the parade and pary, have a great night all, especially TW, Nat, Mark and I'm ..., F********, Mr Panties et al. Hope everyone gets to dance to all their favourites. I Ttink I'll wear my orange camouflage pants (must have been designed for the Martian desert) to the party and my Cyberdog battery operated t-shirt (again, sigh) to Ice Nat. If I change my mind I'll let you know in my pre-recovery state.
EC - Sat Mar 4 0:30:57 2000
green.s thank you EC : ) I wish you and all the other pinkboard kids a fabulous Mardi Gras ! my mission for the night: to steal Bob Downs ciggies in the ViP bar and make it 3 parties in a row. btw.. be sure to take advantage of the space behind the red velvet curtains covering the entire wall of Dome. you can take your new special friend there for some "privacy"
Mr Panties - Sat Mar 4 0:57:57 2000
green.s shania twain is confirmed to appear at mardi gras party.
Sat Mar 4 0:59:36 2000
that don't impress me much
Sat Mar 4 2:01:29 2000
Only 2 years ago, I stood opposite Fred Nile as he and his religious nutters screamed and gazed in awe at the parade. He watched to the very end. There were about 10 of them working in shifts on Liverpool Street, holding up banners and screaming religious crap about Adam and some bitch. As they lost there vocal chords they could be seen resting up against the barrier just watching and pointing out aspects to each other.
Fred in deNile - Sat Mar 4 8:37:55 2000
MG is just seen as a freak show. When will people realise that the people who turn out to see the parade are not our friends, they are just there to gawk.
Sat Mar 4 9:01:45 2000
Hope I hear "You're Not Alone" by Olive tonite.
Sat Mar 4 9:05:14 2000
To Sydney, have a great Mardi Gras. To New Orleans, have a great Mardi Gras. To Miami, have a great Winter Party.
Party planet - Sat Mar 4 9:12:47 2000
Thanks EC. I hope you and everyone else have the best weekend of your lives.
TW - Sat Mar 4 9:36:38 2000
I'll look out for the Orange pants EC, and if you see a mirror ball necklace, come and say hello. Take care all, and have a big, fun weekend.
Mark and I'm .... - Sat Mar 4 10:09:22 2000
There are going to be alot of undercover cop activity at all the recoveries this year (dance party drug deaths and churches homophobia, and the olympics being reasons why). Venues don't want to get closed down just because some selfish person wanted to stuff everything up for the rest of us.
Sat Mar 4 11:27:55 2000
F*ck I love cuming home to log onto this hysterical site I always find myself laughing at the humour et al. Thanks to Panther for supplying the facility and to the various contributors yahoo( no not dot com). I hope everyone this weekend has a cool time. Safe, and enjoyable heaps of kind thoughts to all. (if there was a heart shaped thing in my keyboard I'd send it) bye
BM - Sat Mar 4 16:00:45 2000
My friends and I have been taking bets on how many queens will not make it through the weekend through self-infliction or otherwise.
Can't wait to see the result - Sat Mar 4 16:55:24 2000
green.s Having realised, somewhat late, that the hideous DJ at harbour Party was Kate Monroe, I want to put forward a petition to ban her from playing a track at any gay dance party from now on in. Never have I been more furious on a dance floor than I was Sunday night. The music was a combination of elevator and lounge music. Thank god for the DJ that followed at least we had 2 hours of dance music. Happy Mardi Gras to everyone! Kate get a clue!
Sat Mar 4 17:20:39 2000
The DJ afterwards was Baby Bear. I always go to the HB with low expectations muscically, and just be social and stand in awe of the good looks and the view. But thank God for Baby Bear - HB organiser and party saviour!
Baby Bear Fan - would you like a VB Dave? - Sat Mar 4 18:16:10 2000
I take for granted being an out 30 yo guy. My deepest repect goes to those who marched in the first ever "Mardi Gras" parade in the 70s. A march for basic rights, and to let people know that gays and lesbians exist. I doubt your minds were on the best costume, the best DJ, the latest artist, or the CD quality. Just equality. For us all. Thankyou to those who marched before me, whoever, and whereever you are.
OutandProud - Sat Mar 4 22:58:40 2000
i live in the bush 50K from the nearest town - just driven 25K back from friends on dirt roads afer watching the parade live on satellite Tv - fantastic parade - realised that i'm over being "over it" - next year I'll be in Sydney - next year i'll be IN the parade (with the leather blokes) - see you on the dance floor - TopoftheTweed @ http://profiles.gay.com/scripts/viewprofile?for=TopT - hope you all had a fantastic night .......
