Pinkboard: Mardi Gras 00 Parade and Party Graffiti Wall 1

The gossip is already flying thick and fast and the DJs are just about to be announced. What will this year's party hold?

Don't forget that before the party there will be thousands of lesbians and gay men and bisexuals and transexuals and supporters high kicking their way past enormous crowds. Are you planning a float? Feel free to ask for participants here.

For discussion of membership issues, including bisexual membership, please use the SGLMG Graffiti Wall.

red.s boypussy is back - and ready to bitch slap the first person i see with a "baytan"-ed body *:)
bOyPuSsY - Mon Jan 17 23:14:02 2000
yellow.s why no Australian Gay or Lesbian artists n the new CD? MG promised with Dannii last year that they would now begin to support new queer talent. Not even FreeFm plays queer Australian music. Come on fellas, look after our community - not major record labels.
heres to original music...whereever you are - Mon Jan 17 23:22:02 2000
orange.s GOD is a DJ... & her name is Sveta. (Love the CD)
5:55 - Mon Jan 17 23:41:16 2000
Heard from a source inside Mardi Gras today that Paul Capsis is now not looking so certain for the opening of the Party. They are not sure if he is a 'big' enough name??????? Hello?????? Is this really an organisation to support and encourage queer artists and culture in this city? And can you really get much queerer and much better than Capsis. Mardi Gras, get your act together. Book Capsis today and start giving us what we want, rather than yet another pathetic soap star who has had a few dance hits. Capsis must play at this year's Party!
Veda Pierce - Mon Jan 17 23:45:25 2000
Hey Veda. Maybe the reason Paul Capsis may not be doing Mardi Gras may be that he doesn't hang out with the right people on the Mardi Gras committee and their circle of influence. Let's face it, Dannii Minogie made a fabulous accesory for ************** to trawl around with at last year's Festival. And as if Capsis will be asked to play at Mardi Gras. he's actually won awards for his performances and has never been on Neighbours or Home & Away. That's two strikes agains him.
E. Arden - Mon Jan 17 23:49:40 2000
Dear Vida, Maybe you should join the party committee & find out about the logistics of running such an event instead of demanding things. Get with the program. Ever think that your second hand info might be wrong.
Mon Jan 17 23:51:02 2000
Know a friend of Capsis who said that the first Capsis heard that he was to be performing at Mardi Gras Party was reading it in the Star Observer last week. So, Mardi Gras, what's the story? And If Paul Capsis is not performing at Mardi Gras, then why not????????? A big 'Please Explain' from this member is needed!
Mon Jan 17 23:53:15 2000
PC may have heard about his performing at MG, simply because some dizzy queen started a rumour. It may have had nothing to do with MG
Mon Jan 17 23:54:52 2000
purple.s Unfortunately for Paul Capsis it wouldn't be the first time some halfwit has posted an extravagantly concocted pile of crap about who's doing what at Mardi Gras. Personally I'd love to see him up there. In the meantime I'd lay odds on Madison Avenue but it's early days. I agree it's a pity there are no Aussie artists on the CD. Some SonicAnimation would have slotted nicely into Sveta's side.
EC - Tue Jan 18 2:12:13 2000
Abel el Toro is an Aussie but straight with children. To true EC we should pay respect to our creative gay and lesbian community. Maybe next year MG?
must...keep....fingers....crossed - Tue Jan 18 13:08:08 2000
blue.s I too would love to see Paul Capsis up on stage at midnight. It's not that I'm a big fan personally, but I respect both him and his work and I think he deserves to be up there. He's talented, queer and an Aussie.
Nat - Tue Jan 18 13:41:41 2000
I agree with Mon 17 Jan 23:51:02, this is all rumour. Wish someone from MG would hurry up and make a statement to quiet the cats. Before a party its bitch bitch bitch......afterwards its 90% congratulations. With a crowd of over 20,000 you'll never please them all. Who want a job where you have the contents of the cutlery draw sticking out of your back. As for the 100% only gay faction ( for membership & and the parties ), I have more support from my straight friends than the emotional baggage a lot of gays carry around. Relax and enjoy the Festival/Party.
Tue Jan 18 15:06:54 2000
orange.s DJ Selection is tonight .....somebody post the news if you get it asap
Tue Jan 18 16:44:11 2000
I don't think that anyone is saying they want 100% gay or 100% Aussie. But abit of a more balanced line-up would be nice. Both with the CD as well the party.
Tue Jan 18 17:13:09 2000
The RHI DJs are Carl Cox, Mark Murphy and Nick Warren ... oh no, it was just a dream. Sorry.
Tue Jan 18 22:22:42 2000
Whos in then??? We need to know...please!!
Tue Jan 18 22:34:50 2000
red.s I kinda liked it

Here it is fresh off the press.I spoke with a member of mardi gras party committee at 11pm on tuesday nite 18/1/00.He advised me that i was unsuccessful in my application to dj at M/G (PS:I am NoT Gavan Bright).i wasnt privi to the line up as selected dj's had not all yet been confirmed but what I was told was this. Luke Leal is closing the RHI,an overseas DJ (?) is playing middle RHI,Sveta is in the HOrdern (somewhere) and another out of town (not sure if interstate or overseas) is also in the Hordern...thats all i know at the moment....i'm sure someone can add to this shortly.
Unsuccessful (this time) Sydney DJ but definitely not Gavan Bright...please that would insult me ! - Wed Jan 19 0:37:00 2000
The 'bigot' gene and the 'stupid' gene are not exclusively found in conjunction with the 'straight' gene it seems.
Wed Jan 19 1:35:43 2000
Dont Tease MG! the results are...............
Wed Jan 19 6:19:15 2000
Last years Parade Officials wore a t-shirt saying "Gays & Lesbians Demand Equality". If Mardi Gras wants to make a political statement as such, it must lead by example. Bisexuals have a homosexual element to thier sexuality. They should not be excluded.
Gay & Proud & wanting Equality for all. - Wed Jan 19 8:56:43 2000
Don't even buy into the shit stirrer and their bigotted comments regarding bisexuals.
Nat - Wed Jan 19 9:35:35 2000
purple.s Come on! What the folk is going on with the Dj selection @ MG? Do I take the offer to play overseas or sit round and find out if I'm going to spin @ Fox. The Big Day Out can get their show together months before the event and still sell all tickets (yay Chili Peppers, Chemical Brothers, Bassment Jaxx, Stephen Allkins, Seymour Butz, Goldie, BooBoo & Mace, NIN , Beth Orton,HardKnox, and then some...Get it together kids! We're waiting
just another girl - Wed Jan 19 11:42:29 2000
red.s Sorry Panther but why is it off topic and discriminatory to say here's to keeping bi's out of the MG parade and party? The MG board support it and so do the vast majority of members.
Gay & Proud - Wed Jan 19 11:53:56 2000
this chocolate coloured background is heavenly ! thank you Panther
Mr Panties - Wed Jan 19 14:53:06 2000
Stick to the SGLMG board Gay & Proud. That way those of us who don't want any part of your stupid, mindless, selfish drivel can avoid you. If this is what 'gay' is coming to, let me jump ship now.
EC - Wed Jan 19 15:42:19 2000
Yayyy! Here we go again. Can't wait.
Sleepless in Brisvegas - Wed Jan 19 16:08:30 2000
EC - is another bi plant.
Wed Jan 19 16:23:09 2000
Don't know who is doing the main party but a friend in London tells me Malcolm Duffy and Smokin' Jo have been approched to do Arrivals Party at the Dome for DTPM.
Wed Jan 19 20:00:07 2000
Here is the line up... RHI Luke Leal, Rob Davis, Lexie Bradfield Horden: Kate Munroe, Sveta, Gavan Bright Dome: Junior B, Garry t,
Wed Jan 19 20:07:13 2000
not really, just bored waiting
Wed Jan 19 20:10:17 2000
thank goddess. don't DO that to us!
Wed Jan 19 20:21:59 2000
As long as Sveta is in the Dome or Hordern I'll go. I Love the set on the CD. About time Mardi Gars reflected the Party rather than some old record collection.
DomeJunkie - Wed Jan 19 20:32:40 2000
Sad its all Euro-house though. Mixing sounds a bit of a digital cut & paste too
mixup - Wed Jan 19 20:42:43 2000
red.s A bi-plant? LOveryL. If only you knew. Yeah, I used to have a problem with 'straights' crowding out queer venues and parties once, but I grew up and learned that behaviour and attitude, not sexual identity, are the real issues at stake. And the behaviour and attitude of petty-minded ghetto queens worries me a hell of a lot more than the idea of some bisexual bringing his boyfriend and his girlfriend to Mardi Gras. Now let's get back to worrying about the DJs ...
EC - Wed Jan 19 21:01:48 2000
yeehaa ! I got booked for the party : )
secret squirrel - Wed Jan 19 23:15:15 2000
That DJ line-ups a joke isn't it? If its not then please tell me Gavan that you're gonna take it harder or trancier?
Technowarrior - Wed Jan 19 23:58:17 2000
yes Technowanker, that "line up" is a joke
Thu Jan 20 0:53:31 2000
To EC - the "gayness"of the Party ? puhlease how many interpretations on that word ? Personally I prefer the mix of all sexualities. If they accecpt me ( and my many straight ) friends do, then I accept them. Equality/Acceptance is what we are after but it amazes me how some then want to discriminate and the excuse of its "our nite" just doesn't wash. Can't wait for the first straight party to advertise "no gays".
Luv. - Thu Jan 20 10:57:30 2000
Please let straight parties say 'no gays.' Who wnats acceptance from starights?
Jonz - Thu Jan 20 11:49:24 2000
this is sending me crazy ! I'm checking this board every 20minutes to see if the DJs have been posted. please put me out of my misery. someone has gotta know something ?
Rohan - Thu Jan 20 12:57:04 2000
Sure Jonz, and you'd be the first to scream discrimination.
Thu Jan 20 12:57:17 2000
Forget Jonz, lives in Darlo, shops/eats in Darlo and only goes out on Oxford St and hates the suburbs and lots of emotional baggage.
Thu Jan 20 13:06:44 2000
Susan Morabito ???????
Thu Jan 20 13:25:42 2000
Susan Morabito would be too cruisy for RHI. I really dont think she plays HI NRG Cheese
Thu Jan 20 13:45:30 2000
I only know of 2 confirmed DJ's so far, one for the Dome, one for the Girl Bar. I'm assuming Mardi Gras hasn't finished contacting all the DJ's yet. I wanna know the rest too!
J - Thu Jan 20 14:03:44 2000
At least Susan plays songs with lyrics.
Thu Jan 20 14:13:27 2000
who's the DJ that you know is in dome ?
Thu Jan 20 14:33:58 2000
Luv. - Thu Jan 20 10:57:30 2000 - I think your comment should have been addressed to Gay & Stupid.
EC - Thu Jan 20 15:06:48 2000
Yes, songs with lyrics. As opposed to dance music.
Thu Jan 20 15:45:01 2000
EC- better than gay and bigoted
Thu Jan 20 16:10:34 2000
Please, a set from Brent Nicholls
Fan - Thu Jan 20 16:23:44 2000
Bigoted? What are you on about? It was Gay and Stupid who was crapping on about the "gayness" of the party. Learn to read the board properly if you're going to attack people. I am not bigoted towards anyone. Well, bigots maybe ...
EC - Thu Jan 20 17:38:49 2000
Phil B
Thu Jan 20 22:55:44 2000
I know how you feel EC but don't buy into it anymore - stupid bigots like "gay and proud" aren't worth it.
Technowarrior - Thu Jan 20 23:21:44 2000
who gives a shit what you bitchs thing ? we've heard all this crap before. this is the wrong graffitti wall to be raving on about this tired subject. lighten up or shut up !
Chi Chi - Fri Jan 21 0:54:54 2000
True, but I do care about your illiteracy darling.
Fri Jan 21 6:22:16 2000

Fri Jan 21 11:58:10 2000
Apologies EC luv, didn't see that one xxxxxx
Fri Jan 21 12:03:13 2000
Is this background really chocolate - I need to reset my monitor, maybe my chocolate has been left out in the sun - this is more a gun metal grey?
Fri Jan 21 12:21:39 2000
You queens are so shallow that's why the militant bisexuals may creep up on you and destroy our party and parade. Thery're already planning a blockade of this years parade, what do you think of that...that's if you can think with that bottle of amyll shoved so far up your noses.
Gay & Proud - Fri Jan 21 12:44:44 2000
This is the opinion of the poster.
Wow. It'll be the most excitement at the parade in years. Carn the bisexuals! Pass the amyl.
Fri Jan 21 13:10:00 2000
purple.s Who...is.......playing?
Fri Jan 21 13:35:34 2000
Dear Gay & Proud, there wouldn't be a problem if militant queens like yourself could just shut up. Of course the bi's / straights might do something with comments from you and your like. Typical, a minority few paints the rest of us in a bad light. You are entitled to your opinions but don't shove it down others throats or print scandalous comments. Like a fellow graffiti person said, can't wait for the first "no gay" club, pub, party and I just bet your the first to join the blockade at that place. Lighten up or drop out.
Luv. - Fri Jan 21 13:48:30 2000
green.s the running order of DJs are...... RHI - blank, blank, Luke Leal. Hordern - blank, Sveta, blank. Dome - Mandy Rollins, Scott Shimmia, Bill Cotsis, Mens space - blank, blank. Girls space - blank, blank. help me fill in the blanks
Blankety Blanks - Fri Jan 21 14:25:21 2000
purple.s Blankety Blanks - If your so good you should be able to fill them in yourself. Me thinks your having yourself on. . . .
Boom Boom - Fri Jan 21 15:56:41 2000
How bout the djS in the bigot space? Gay and Proud needs music too.
Fri Jan 21 17:08:10 2000
Luv........dream on darlin",an get a life instead of living off ours!
Fri Jan 21 17:35:49 2000
Good onya luv. And what a fabulous idea - a Bisexual Space! **fact**There are more bisexuals in the world than gays or lesbians. You know people are all essentially the same, let's get along.
metoo - Fri Jan 21 20:14:53 2000
The DJs in the newly announced bigots only space are Pauline Hanson and Bruce Ruxton playing a mixture of uplifting 1950s top 40 and white beats to appeal to the discerning armed services gent.
Sat Jan 22 2:48:39 2000
To Fri 21Jan 17:35:49 why dont you meet up with Gay & Proud and next time you walk down Oxford St, keep walking for another 30 mins and you'll both find a whole new world. Pauline Hanson and Bruce Ruxton playing for the armed services gents sounds just right. P.S. to Luv, just ignore them luvvie there's always someone stirring the pot , sad life but leave them to it. Now please back to the Party - Guests ? DJ's ?
Sat Jan 22 8:07:47 2000
purple.s Dj's in men space are Steve Sonius & Bucknaked. Sveta IS In the hordern but doesn't know what time she is playing yet.
Sat Jan 22 9:32:50 2000
Need to know whos doing it @ MG. Carn!
Sat Jan 22 20:30:13 2000
red.s Here is a personal fav. from Overseas. Warren Gluck - RHI - second shift. Hey has everyone forgotten about last years party. If I'm wrong, I'm just going to trust the party committe that gave us Sleaze 99. Let's remember all that is positive about the last year!! P.s.s Mardi Gras, what about a %, as I mentioned doing a double RHI, Hordern cd a couple of years ago in here.
Mark and I'm sorry ........ - Sat Jan 22 21:38:28 2000
Actually the party is primarily a fundraising event. Don't blame MG if they fooled you into thinking that the party is all that they are really about. They just made you think that, in order to make sure that the parties got sold out and so ensure the financial security of the organisation. They did a good marketing job I reckon.
Sat Jan 22 23:45:44 2000
red.s at the top of this message board, Panther has written "For discussion of membership issues, including bisexual membership, please use the SGLMG Graffiti Wall." please follow that rule. we're sick of hearing about this topic on this graffitti wall
Over It - Sun Jan 23 4:10:03 2000
Thankyou
Just to get back on topic, Did people see the reports of the two major e importation busts in the past few weeks. Aparently the street value of the what they confiscated ran into the millions. I wonder if the price of e's will go up now like the price of herion went up last year when there were a few major busts in that area too? Or maybe just the low grade stuff will be circulating instead.
Sun Jan 23 10:26:02 2000
And were those e's headed here for MG?
Sun Jan 23 10:27:11 2000
And what's the topic of a drug bust got to do with MG Parade & Party !!!!!
Sun Jan 23 16:25:17 2000
purple.s Madonna - playing at MG? Peforming her new hit (cover of Don McClean's original) "American Pie"? She is opening the Versace store in Brisbane two days before MG - keep your eyes and ears opened boys and girls.
Go Maddy - Sun Jan 23 17:32:06 2000
One of the highlights for me last year was the brilliant Retro Tent - wheere the costumes parade had been, but that became the Retro Tent afterwards. Hysterical fun. Danced to a very camp dance mix of I Go To Rio from the Boy From Oz and then later did the Bus Stop. That Tent was going off and gave me enough Retro to keep me and the packed dance floor very, very happy. Will we be seeing that again this year? I heard it was not in place at Sleaze. Anyone know anything about this???
Earl J. Waggerdorn - Sun Jan 23 17:48:34 2000
Sun Jan 23 16:25:17 2000 - Well everyone is discussing the DJ line up at the parties, but as we all know the music isn't the only entertainment that makes the night.
Sun Jan 23 18:25:47 2000
Now why would madonna be performing "American" Pie in Australia???? It is just more wishful thinking that a huge superstar like madonna would perform at MG. How many times have we heard the rumors that madonna, george michael, Janet jackson, etc etc etc etc will be performing. The only rumor that came true was the one about Jimmy Barnes!!!
Sun Jan 23 18:58:40 2000
red.s Unfortuanately
Sun Jan 23 19:30:24 2000
Is it even true that Madonna is opening the new Versace store? I mean .... Brisbane?
Sun Jan 23 22:26:04 2000
a little birdy told me that the international DJ is David Morales. the reason why MG have not announced the DJ line up is because they're still finalising the details with Morales (me thinks last set in Hordern)
Mr Panties - Sun Jan 23 22:27:04 2000
heck no. middle set in the RHI
Mon Jan 24 0:27:27 2000
if this is true, then it's the coolest thing a party director has ever done. leeson would never have done this
Mon Jan 24 2:14:37 2000
I guess. But I wish it were Dave Seaman. Oh well. Can't complain
Mon Jan 24 5:17:31 2000
Morales and Maddy are great mates.
The dream is gonna cum true - Mon Jan 24 11:24:33 2000
Its obvious the international DJ's are one Uk one USA...Twisted and Ray of Light...!!
Knowall - Mon Jan 24 12:46:44 2000
I'm lead to beleive that the closing show has already been decided Tess Tickle doing 'Don't let this moment end'. . .it's a little bit 'done' isn't it !! Think we might get a real star for the ticket prices
over crap shows - Mon Jan 24 12:48:32 2000
As people keep on repeating over and over again. The party is a fundraiser, that means that most of the money that you pay for your ticket will be funnelled into the organisation and everything that they do, not into paying the huge costs involved in getting a major artist to perform at the party.

Now if Madonna was prepared to take a major pay cut to perform then maybe something might happen. But seriously please, if you want to get your moneys worth buy a ticket to Big Day Out.
Mon Jan 24 14:34:43 2000

Seymour Butz is too wierd for MG
Tue Jan 25 14:54:24 2000
It seems Culture Club are booked for a 'dance party' at the old Showgrounds aka Fox on Sunday 27 Feb. The only thing I could find in the MG guide that was on the same day was Frocks at Fox???
EC - Tue Jan 25 18:47:38 2000
orange.s Just having a first listen to the MG 2000 CD. Absolutely loooove Sveta's Hordern mix.. Now onto Luke.
Mark and I'm .......... - Tue Jan 25 21:11:32 2000
green.s Only 2000 tickets left!
Wed Jan 26 0:25:38 2000
Harbour Party on same night as Culture Club you idiot. And you call yourself a Party boy?

Frocks at Fox the only thing? Read your Guide carefully...
Wed Jan 26 10:01:06 2000
red.s What can we do about having a designated 'sex' hall/room/tent at the Mardi Gras Party. Surely MG should try and cater for all aspect of gay lifestyle rather than just drug f*cked dancers and dance music. Sorry to the critics but we are a more diverse community than the party represents!
REN - Wed Jan 26 14:15:22 2000
purple.s Here's hoping that we have more variation in the music between halls this year than in the past. MG see what you can do, maybe a play list from the DJ's should be submitted before they are engaged.
Wed Jan 26 14:20:28 2000
If you just want sex, isn't it cheaper to spend $10 and go to a sex on premises venue, rather than spend $90+ to do it at Mardi Gras?
Wed Jan 26 17:03:12 2000
Ah right. Yes, the Harbour Party would be being held at the the old showgrounds. Of course, how stupid of me. More specifically in fact in the Hordern Pavilion. But anyway, no doubt it is the Harbour Party and it's the promoters who have it all wrong - presumably.
EC - Wed Jan 26 17:44:48 2000
red.s What is it with all this secrecy about the Mardu Gras dj's ?? They were picked over a week ago yet all i got the other day with a phone call to mardi Gras was "no comment at this point". I think I smell something Rotten in the air !!!
rotting meat stinks ! - Wed Jan 26 20:16:14 2000
green.s Luke Leal I loved it also. If I was to pick, (from a 60 : 40 Rhi : Hordern man, I would go to Sveta, by a touch. Great progressive tunes on both sides though.
Mark and I 'm ............... - Wed Jan 26 20:27:25 2000

Red Herring - Wed Jan 26 21:42:03 2000
yellow.s Im planning a "lets keep MG gay & lesbian float". Anyone interested?
Gay & Proud - Wed Jan 26 21:45:04 2000
Now there's a golden opprtunity for some bi activists. Infiltration. Don't forget to wear your One Nation badges so Gay & Dopy doesn't suspect a thing ; )
Wed Jan 26 22:24:10 2000
excuse me "Gay & Proud" but can you stop shit stirring ? I'm so f*cking sick of the bisex debate. if you insist on bitching about that subject, at least take it to the appropriate graffitti wall.
Coco La Chicci - Wed Jan 26 23:49:25 2000
green.s Hummmm, Gay & Proud, I thought applications for Parade entries had to be in on 22 Jan. You're a bit late, better luck next year, there is always the One Nation State Conference to display your float at. If not I am sure Fred Nile would love to have you stand with him, can't have Mardi Gras encouraging anyone else other than homosexuals to "get involved".
Thu Jan 27 1:38:19 2000
To Gay & Proud - hopefully it will be your float that the straight/bi's blockade with all this shit your've been printing. As Coco has suggested go to another wall with your dribble and don't claim "the majority" want blah blah.......and as Thu Jan 27 suggested, join One Nation or Fred Nile. You would feel at home with that lot.
Thu Jan 27 8:27:03 2000
Arrival Party DJ's confirmed as Smokin' Jo (UK - DTPM), Alex Taylor (Aus), Malcolm Duffy (UK - Trade + DTPM).
Thu Jan 27 11:09:57 2000
Still nothing re DJs? Are negotiations with internationals really taking that long to complete?
Nat - Thu Jan 27 13:17:43 2000
I'm wondering whether the negotiations are actually with the locals DJs. I imagine there's a question of the difference in pay rates to be dealt with.
EC - Thu Jan 27 14:27:04 2000
blue.s 8 hours you say??
Thu Jan 27 15:23:38 2000
blue.s Congratulations to the Party Director and Committee re selection for DJ sets at Mardi Gras. If what I hear is true, this years party will bring Mardi Gras out of the eighties and into the late nineties!! At least a couple of years behind is better than a whole decade! Although, I do reckon the beans should be spilt!!!
Thu Jan 27 15:26:35 2000
green.s Oh, don't leave us up in the air like that! What did you hear??? A rumour is better than nothing at this stage.
Mark and I'm ...... - Thu Jan 27 16:07:15 2000
I've heard that the following have confirmed: Sveta in the Hordern, Jude Tsai in the Girls Space, Mandy Rollins in the Dome, Gavan Bright (not sure where). The rest is a mystery to me.
Thu Jan 27 16:13:14 2000
I hope Thu 27 Jan 15:26 is right. Thats been my biggest whinge for years ie music is years/decades behind. The MG CD finally caught up with the times so hopefully the Party will although I do realise each hall play different types of music to meet the various styles.
Thu Jan 27 16:28:03 2000
The CD is great. I like it the more I hear it. Sveta is playing the Hordern (spoke to someone from MG HQ)- and Luke is closing RHI. Are the DJ's for Arrivals for real?
Thu Jan 27 16:33:22 2000
Wayne G has the same initials as Warren Gluck.
Thought I'd share that - Thu Jan 27 17:07:58 2000
The party is at the Old Showgrounds at Moore Park from 10 pm to 10 am.
Finger on the pulse - Thu Jan 27 17:12:06 2000
The DJs have been selected. (Sveta, Luke Leal, Scott Schimma?, Bill Cotsis, Mandy Rollins, and some more) Expect nothing local eclectic or diverse. (4X4 house, hard house and harder house is all that's on offer). If you think that the new CD is "wonderful music of the future" you'll love the night. If you think the new CD is is 1-dimensional euro trash, I suggest heading off to HomoEclectus or any other alternative event. On ya MG! keep creativity to the straights!

husky22 - Thu Jan 27 17:47:41 2000
Sveta is confirmed for the Hordern, however even she doesn't know who else is playing.
Thu Jan 27 18:32:33 2000

blue.s Hello All
I would just like to clear up a couple of things regarding the posts from Gay & Proud who has also been sending messages to the Australian Bisexual Network and a couple of bisexual mailing lists without the guts to provide a real name, how proud!

The Australian Bisexual Network has no intention or desire to have any sort of blocade or disruption to the Parade or Festival. Why should we when ABN has a legitimate and Mardi Gras approved entry in the Parade. This person just wants to stir up divisions in the community that will give advantage to our homophobic enemies.

As for having our own Bi Parade, why should we bother when we are welcome in the current Parade and have had an official entry in it since 1993 as have many other not specifically gay or lesbian only organisations such as Parents & Friends, Poeple Living With hiv & aids, Australian Labour Party, etc.

Wayne Roberts - Fri Jan 28 3:46:47 2000

Dear "Lycra Boy", Last time I checked, Dj Abel Toro on CD2 was still Australian. It doesn't look good to pay out another party and CD in order to promote another.

Fri Jan 28 16:29:56 2000
Thank you Wayne Roberts for clearing up the mess of Gay & Proud. Of course he is entitled to his own views but when they try and stuff them down our throats and shit stir like he is doing and say the majority want blah blah.....you just wish they would fall of the face of the earth. So Gay & Proud you lied about the blockade you've been taken to task for your dribble so piss off.
Fri Jan 28 16:50:36 2000
yeah Lycra Boy, get lost. Are you the Promoter of the other parties ? The DJ line up if true sounds pretty good. 3 Halls with different styles is all MG can do. They can't cater to every style of music.
Fri Jan 28 16:54:32 2000
To Wayne Roberts. Please dont think Gay & Proud is representative of the Gay community. Straights have Pauline Hanson & Bruce Ruxton to embarrass them, we have Gay & Proud. Bi's have ? hmmmmmm I've never heard a Bi slag off at others ? I'm Gay and I have gay/straight/bi friends and I don't want parties/venues to start banning certain sexes. These morons forget what it was like to be discriminated against all those years ago. Still one day they will grow up.
Fri Jan 28 17:08:31 2000
green.s It was around this time last year that I found the wall getting serious, somewhat confrontational and away from the fun I'm sure it was meant to be. Hell, I can get that stuff any day at work! The cure was 3 fun questions like Your favourite party moment, weirdest experience..... Well, what about for MG 2000, the best DJ set you have seen at a Mardi Gras or Sleaze and something amusing that you witnessed/were the cause of. I'll post mine shortly

green.s 1) Warren Gluck last year RHI or maybe Sveta MG 2000 (I'm looking forward to it) 2)A really lovely passer by whom I gave a Kaleidoscope to look through at an amazing Hordern lazer display in 1999. He looked though it and lost his sense of verticalness, falling over and laughing as he went down.

Hi People, I am sorry you have also been subjected to the illogical rants of Gay & Proud.

Can anyone tell me what other queer parties are happening on the 4th March. My boyfriend and I will not be attending the MG Party but would like to attend one of the other GLBT parties. Any details, prices and where to book tickets would be appreciated. We don't always hear about these things in Brisbane and my boyfriend is flying in from Malaysia so I want him to have a great night. Thanks.
Wayne Roberts - Sat Jan 29 18:17:21 2000

yellow.s Yeh lets get on to the root space at Mardi Gras Party. Why not provide a space which respones to the natural process that happens at every gay party i have been to that is people having sex with each other. Make safe, erotic, clean, and comfortable. I mean we are celebrating sexuality - not dance music! though that could be an added bonus! ;o)
REN - Sat Jan 29 18:26:36 2000
Why is it that a lot of gay men are obbsessed with sex , like REN. Cant guys just have good time at the party and forget about their dicks for once .

OK, let's get back to DJs and who might be playing. Excuse my ignorance, but where and what does Victor Calderone play? All I know is that he is American.
Technowarrior - Sat Jan 29 19:05:43 2000
There's an interview with Victor Calderone at the Dance music site though it doesn't give a lot of info on the range of stuff he plays. I guess in an 8 hours we might expect a fairly diverse set. The fact that he does some of the US circuit parties bothers me just slightly but I guess we'll see. sorry I don't know how to create a link tag yet

No, Im not the promoter - Sat Jan 29 20:36:20 2000
After a while you get sick of hearing the same old tired rumours doing Oxford street. Lets put one to rest. "Heard a rumour that Ticketek did not control re-entry into the party. The tickets were left intact when you first went through the turnstiles. The trick was to get a ticket from someone else already in the party. You left the party with two intact tickets and got your 'pass out' band. Give one of the intact tickets to a friend who could then enter the party. You then reentered the party showing your band and the other intact ticket. 3 in for the price of 2 !!!!" is one from Sleaze 98, but still with legs due to paranoid members of the community. Well, as someone who has worked at major events with the same system, a ticket used twice scans as "second entry", therefore requiring a passout as well. There are ways around this system (which I'm not ging to mention for obvious reasons, that have since been rectified). If people are to get in without tickets, it can only be through the person on the gate, as they have tickets to use in case of ticket damage etc. Give the tecnno phobia a rest and enjoy!
Negativity is masking the real issues - DJ's and shows - Sat Jan 29 23:05:35 2000
Is there any military personell (Army, Air force and Navy) out there in gay land planning to have a float this year? I know that it's frowned upon but it's time to let sydney (and the world) know just how many gay and lesbian people make up our defence force, and believe me there are heaps, I've been watching!!
PrivateB - Sun Jan 30 0:40:44 2000
why is it frowned upon?
Sun Jan 30 1:10:49 2000
red.s oh, that Military look is a bit tired now. the hottest look of the moment is the "fast food worker" look. Boys & Girls, get your old McD's, KFC & Pizza Hut uniforms out ! cause it's the look of the millenium. you get bonus cred if you have original oil stains on the shirt.

Gavan Bright, Paul Goodyear and Luke Leal in the RHI?
Sun Jan 30 15:48:29 2000
green.s Have I missed the real DJ lineup somewhere along the line or is it yet to be released?
Mark and I'm... - Sun Jan 30 16:31:52 2000
The line-up has not been officially announced Mark but I think all the details are actually here as far as the Dome, the Hordern and the RHI are concerned. Except that Victor is actually doing 7 hours, not 8. Forgot that the Hordern always closes early.

I'm going to pick Dean Essing's last MG set - opening RHI 1997 - mainly I guess because it was his last and he left me and a lot of others with some great MG moments. The weirdest moment was being one of the last to walk out of the Government pavilion (1990?), when the music stopped in the build-up to the snow storm and we were asked to leave, and I looked up to see one crazy punk with a huge white mohawk hanging by his knees from the ceiling. He didn't seem to notice the party had stopped.
EC - Sun Jan 30 17:14:05 2000

It's okay, there will be nowhere for him to dance at the party. There are only 2 and a half gay DJs between the Hordern and the RHI! %-)
Sun Jan 30 17:31:43 2000
EC, I was there and was one of the last to exit and saw the cherry picker going to get the guy. That was a great Hall but must admit that the RHI's new ceiling is great. Remember 10 Diana Ross' doing Chain Reaction in the Govt Pav ? My first E and Party but prefer the 3 Halls as they usually offer differing music. Have a great one.
Luv. - Sun Jan 30 17:35:35 2000
Have I missed something? I don't recall seeing the lineup for the RHI (not, I suspect, that it will matter to me). And please Mardi Gras Party Committee,if its not too late, can we have Mandy and Sveta play at different times (Mandy playing the last set in Dome would be perfect)? How can I choose between those two?
TW - Mon Jan 31 1:17:53 2000
Gavan Bright, Paul Goodyear, Luke Leal?
Mon Jan 31 3:12:42 2000

yellow.s Have a great Mardi Gras everyone!
Gay & Proud - Mon Jan 31 11:38:50 2000
Wayne G in the RHI ??? ooh, the GirlyBoys are gonna love that ! oh well, they can get there fix at Fwisky the next night
Humphrey B Queer - Mon Jan 31 13:00:15 2000
Bring back the snowstorms that's what I say. Wasn't there for the first few, but was caught in the glitter snowstorm of Disco Inferno in 1993. Steve Worthy gets my vote for best set ever at Sleaze 1996 - have not listened to cheezy house since.
Mon Jan 31 13:07:36 2000
I would agree that Steve Worthy's Sleaze 96 set was very memorable. It was the first time a DJ had taken it that hard at MG or Sleaze, and was perhaps one of the the first signs of badly needed change both at these parties and also on the gay club scene in general. Sadly, Steve has since decided to go "commercial" with his sound. Other memorable sets include Mandy Rollins (Sleaze 98?), and Sveta and Alex Taylor at Sleaze 99.
Mon Jan 31 13:25:04 2000
Why did some Djs get gigs without submitting tapes? Jobs for the boys? Or Boyfriends?
shame MG shame! - Mon Jan 31 13:58:50 2000
Wayne G in the RHI, up against Victor Calderone in the Hordern? That should make for an interesting situation. If Victor is playing vocal US house and Wayne is playing bangin' and trancey, does that mean the entire populations of the Hordern and the RHI are going to migrate during their sets? Oh well, looks like it's going to be a musically interesting MG.
EC - Mon Jan 31 14:17:44 2000
what happened to David Morales in the Hordern ? I dont want to hear Calderone.
Mon Jan 31 14:23:50 2000

Mon Jan 31 14:32:29 2000
Hey "shame MG shame!" You have got to be joking aren't you? Can you please name the 'DJs' who got gigs without submitting 'tapes'. Didn't your boyfriend/girlfriend get a gig?
Boom Boom - Mon Jan 31 15:50:11 2000
The Party section of the official Mardi Gras website lists the paty as 'When - March'.
That's really helpful for those not in the know - Mon Jan 31 16:18:26 2000
green.s After an indication of music on the night??? This may be of interest to some (but I'm sure not to others). You'll see what I mean when you check it out. http://www.eagles.com.au/~ultrab/charts.htm I too remember the disco inferno glitter storm. In fact I'm probably still trying to remove some of the shiny fragments.
Mark and I'm.... - Mon Jan 31 16:54:56 2000
Why should DJ selection be based solely upon submitted tapes? Promoters and nightclubs rely on their knowledge of DJs and the sound that they are after for a particular space, so why shouldn't the Mardi Gras party committee?
Nat - Mon Jan 31 17:43:57 2000
EC - Wayne G can go quite commercial (apparently proven in a set he played on FreeFM when he was out in December). I think its safe to say he will be leaning this way, as opposed to "bangin' and trancey", at Mardi Gras.
Mon Jan 31 17:51:44 2000
Best moment...so many I can't think. Hoping (knowing) this year will be the same. Warren Gluck was a highlight last year though...
Sleepless in brisvegas - Mon Jan 31 18:22:11 2000
Victor Calderone doesn't really play vocal US House - he's much harder than that - his sets are more like the remixes of Club 69 etc. Could be some very disappointed people if he was up against Wayne G - it would be hard house all around. Regardless of taste, there should be a choice of musical styles - or as someone put it, something to make everyone on Pinkboard winge.
Mon Jan 31 20:13:37 2000
Without getting into a squabble again about defining music 'styles' I would argue that most Club 69 mixes ARE 'vocal US house', as are Calderone's Madonna remixes. They are not 'hard house', though they might be hard to some ears. In a 7 hour set he'll probably go a lot of places. Didn't we already have the Wayne G argument re FreeFM? He was playing favourite songs, not a dance party set - so you probably won't be hearing Abba. Personally I'm really looking forward to this party if it's all true.
EC - Mon Jan 31 21:27:22 2000
There's not much difference at all betweem Wayne G and Victor C, the only differnce is one plays american house, and the english house, as was heard at the previous Ice party, that he played at.
Mon Jan 31 22:38:12 2000

The 'cost' of hiring the showgrounds seems to be getting higher:

Australians will be able to pay to watch this year's Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade live, uncut and uncensored on pay-television.

In the first locally produced pay-per-view event, the entire Mardi Gras Parade will be shown live from 7pm on March 4, through pay-TV channel Main Event, which is available through Foxtel, Austar and Optus.

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras president David McLachlan said the introduction of the pay-per-view coverage would allow more people to share the true nature of the parade.

"In addition to the 700,000 people who will be able to see the parade from the streets, more people than ever before will be able to see it from the comfort of their own homes," he said.

"We're particularly excited of course, by the increased opportunity for lesbians and gay men living in remote areas to share in the celebration which is the Mardi Gras."

In addition to the pay-per-view, which will cost A$19.95, the parade will also be shown live on the Internet and in a two-hour edited, delayed package on Network Ten.

Ten has held the broadcast rights for the past two years after securing them from the ABC. It airs a censored and edited version of the parade one or two days after the event. Last year, the telecast won its Monday night timeslot in Sydney, attracting 400,000 viewers.

Brian Walsh, director of programming, promotion and publicity at Foxtel said the deal, which had taken three years to secure, was an inevitable step.

"I think it's a big coup and more importantly I think it's an event that should be seen live. I mean you wouldn't delay the Australian Open by 24 hours. Why delay what is undoubtedly Australia's greatest festival by 24 hours," he said.

"It will be shown uncut and uncensored and if you look at the essence of what Mardi Gras is supposed to be, it should never be a property that is censored."

Mr McLachlan said he hoped for a pay-per-view audience of about 20,000 for this year's parade, which will feature more than 200 floats.

Neither party would divulge financial details of the deal.

red.s Stop the whingeing about the DJs! Now, the more important details: * Any news on whether the Retro Tent will be in place, playing Retro hits - and going off big time? * Any word on Paul Capsis performing at the party? * And Culture Club will not be doing the party. They fly out the Monday the week before - and that is definite! Thanks kids. All replies gratefully read.
Joan Crawford - Mon Jan 31 23:57:09 2000
oh Joan ! thank you darling ! I've been really worried that unCultured Club would do a show at the party, but now I'm releaved. FYI, there will be the retro/disco/etc music played in the costume pageant tent. at this stage, I dont know who is DJing in there, but I'd guess it would be Bill Morley & Garry T.
Wire CoatHanger - Tue Feb 1 0:45:00 2000
purple.s oh hell ! what about the Village Idiots ? I hope they wont show their tired asses on a stage at MG. the last time they came on I ran out of the RHI. they were a parody of themselves, it was like watching something off the Footy Show. I dont like Milkshakes and I wouldnt be seen dead in a Y.M.C.A.
Mr Panties (Lactose Intolerant) - Tue Feb 1 0:51:20 2000
I think we can safely assume that the progress in the music will be matched by some progress in the shows.
Tue Feb 1 2:40:28 2000
No no no - not Club 69 mixes, but Victor's remixes of Club 69 - particularly of It's Alright on the Restyled EP - this is much harder than vocal house.

The DJ line up just suits me fine - woohooo
Hashemi - Tue Feb 1 14:20:43 2000
Frightening, only for how accurate this board has been this time. Let the second thing said also be a compliment - Bill Cotsis closing the Dome again - creamy, look forward to grinding again with him - that's as good as it could get.
Tue Feb 1 14:23:33 2000
blue.s Congrats Glenn on a great line up. It's gonna be great! For those interested, Wayne G will be playing a set similar to his Free FM set - it is what he plays at Heaven and suits the RHI perfectly. Kinda girlie but not cheesy. Hard to explain, he will be using a lot of his own remixes. He will be playing a more banging, hard trance set the following night at Ice. One of the few DJs who can cross boundaries so well.
Tue Feb 1 14:52:22 2000
Actually this board is pretty accurate a lot of the time regarding DJ line ups and guest performers. You just have to sort through the dross. Now how come there's been not a word about the shows?
Tue Feb 1 14:53:45 2000
Argh! Mandy, Sveta, and Jude are all playing at the same time! Wonder if they can move all the venues closer to each other cuz I envisage a lot of running around in the first few hours.

Maybe you will be hearing Abba. Lay All Your Love On Meeeeeeeeee ...
Tue Feb 1 15:34:00 2000
who is TBC ? she's playing in the womens tent. what style of music does she play ? I like it when MG supports new talent.
Mr Panties - Tue Feb 1 15:57:37 2000
And what a great name she's picked.
Tue Feb 1 16:13:09 2000
Nooooo Mandy, you're wasted at the start of the night, what tragedy, it would've been just about the perfect Dome line up if Mandy and Scott were in reverse order. But what a relief, there's something for everyone in the line up, even a cabaret. I guess that means Retro music, wishing for the day when we get a real lounge cabaret venue.
Tue Feb 1 17:06:22 2000
You'll definitely be hearing Lay all Your Love on Me!
WG - Tue Feb 1 17:29:57 2000
yellow.s Congratulation Glenn Horder for the great slap in the face you have given sydneys local dj community.with a total of 50% of playing time in the RHI and Hordern combined being allocated to overseas dj's you have shown little faith in showcasing the amazing talent of DJ's in this city. I also have to ask the question:What "deal" has been struck with Wayne G and Victor Calderone...its a digrace if they are (and that goes without saying) being treated on a higher pedastool ($per hour wise) than our local sydney talent. We are paying enough for our tickets to mardi gras without having to line the pockets of out of town dj's who like Calderone are flying in on the day and flying out the next with a care factor of Zero. Im not a dj but Im all for showcasing our dj's at our party. Besides these out of towners will bring in out of town music to our two main halls alienating the majority of people there who of course are sydneysiders. Glenn Horder....you've stuffed this one up and I hope the dj's of this town revolt around this appauling decision. PS:Congrats to luke leal on getting closing RHI...the only sensible decision I can see from the whole F**ked up mess
disappointed to the max - Tue Feb 1 17:55:01 2000
Oh disappointed to the max - you should look up the meaning of the words 'parochial' and 'provincial'. Dance music is world music and I for one am pleased to be part of sharing our sounds at our global gathering. Let's stop Austarlian dj's getting gigs OS. Let's stop clubs bringing OS dj's. Try travelling outside the ghetto...
dj who travels - Tue Feb 1 18:06:07 2000
I'm going to spend the first four hours of the night standing (dancing) exactly half way between the Dome and the Hordern, with one ear directed towards Mandy's set and the other towards Sveta's. Great that they are both playing, damn shame that they are playing at the same time. I don't really know anything about Victor Calderone to comment although I'm surprised that he has been given an eight hour set. Apart from Sveta it looks like the ever growing hard house and hard trance crowd misses out again and no doubt will now be rushing to buy their Homo Eclectus tickets.
Nat - Tue Feb 1 18:22:58 2000
Be sure that Vic is not just doing it for the money. He approached Leesom about it last year, wanting to do it for next to nothing, and was responded with "Who are you?". As for Wayne, don't be surprised if he is only getting local rates. the party is the major fund raiser for our major community group, and its international appeal must prevail above all other decisions. Without international support, there aren't enough dickheads in Sydney like "disappointed" to make it as financially successful as it can be. If you want hard house go to HE the same night or Ice the following night. And there are plenty of other parties for tourists to go to to showcase local talent over those two weeks.
Tue Feb 1 18:57:55 2000
yellow.s I see Gavin Brights back (dj who travels). Its alright for you to be so hoyty toyty...you got a spot in the RHI and that I also applaud for you....but NO way re calderone and wayne G. Send them back to where they belong and put local DJ's back where they should be ...playing at our (god i wish i could write the word "our" in capitals) parties. Glenn Horder....you muffed it queen !!

Are there going to be play rooms at Mardi Gras, or just wild action in the dome ???
SaunaSlut - Tue Feb 1 21:50:41 2000
Why should people who like hard house have to go somewhere other than Mardi Gras to hear it - that's hardly fair. Not that I think that they will this Mardi Gras Nat. The lineup for the RHI is looking anything but handbaggy. Gavan Bright has previously raved about Mark Murphy's music on this board, Wayne G produced Ffierce anthem "Twisted", and Luke Leal can get take it there as well. Am I hoping for too much or are the handbag lovers going to be very "left out" this Mardi Gras? Sveta first in the Hordern should really get things going early - I just hope VC will keep it there. Maybe an earlier poster was right, and we'll see a big switch of crowds from the Hordern to the RHI and vice verse. I'm looking forward to it.
TW (Technowarrior) - Tue Feb 1 22:03:14 2000
orange.s Quite frankly disappointed to the max - previously SydneyBoyAnd ProudOfIt - your attitude is probably the reason you didn't get offered a set. I've come to the sad conclusion that the majority of people making personal attacks on DJs here are in fact other DJs suffering professional jealousy. Rein in your egos. I doubt that the person who responded to you is Gavan Bright. He appears to have considerably more integrity than you. Feel free to rave and rant in response. Nat, I wouldn't give up on the hard stuff just yet. I think VC might just deliver, though he's probably not going to play as much stuff as some of us would like.
EC - Tue Feb 1 22:16:06 2000
Oops, that should have been "as much European and UK stuff as some of us would like".
Tue Feb 1 22:23:55 2000
yellow.s Tell me One gay man not ruled by his dick - Sat Jan 29 18:48:19 2000 Are you going to have fun at the party withou the aid of additional substance? Oh and isn't it your dick that has made you gay in the first place. Oh and by the way i am not ruled by my dick, actually I have very little sex at all. There is just something special about big events and orgies.....what can i say i am a sucker for hot sweaty bodies crushed into a mens room. I think it is something about freedom of expression which cant be displayed eslewhere in this world of ours, rather than merely thinking with your dick!
REN - Tue Feb 1 23:48:01 2000

disappointed to the max? sorry dude but I have to agree with dj who travels and EC. who the hell do you think you're speaking for saying "these out of towners will bring in out of town music to our two main halls alienating the majority of people there who of course are sydneysiders"? that would have to be the biggest load of small town bullsh*t i've ever read here. no doubt most party goers are sydneysiders, all of who can hear sydney's very talented djs all over town all year round. "out of town music"? what a laugh. the only question i'd ask is why Victor C needs to play so long. better luck and better attitude next year.
Really not a DJ (really & truly) - Wed Feb 2 2:21:24 2000

disappointed to the max ...yet again - Wed Feb 2 2:47:53 2000
yellow.s oh another thing...........Mardi gras should be disclosing what financial "Deal" has been struck with calderone and wayne G. Its only fair that local talent like Leal,Bright, sveta and co know that MG is treating them 2nd rate compared to VC and WG... so how much above the standard rate of $200ph are our overseas "guests" getting compared to sydney dj's ?? im sure if i asked this question at MG AGM i would be stonewalled !!!

crap. which Sleaze was it you said you played again? 1997 or 1998? Some people have longer memories than others and a bit of spare time to look over previous walls. disappointed to the max = sydney boy and proud of it = girly music forever (not) = several other personalities which pop up around dj selection time. id mardi gras is so rotten, why keep putting in tapes and bitching when you don't get picked?
Wed Feb 2 5:20:52 2000
disappointed to the max - Maybe your good friend dj just wasn't good enough to match it with the world class djs who have been asked to play at MG2000. Let's have a guess who it could have been! Ummm! Go ahead and ask the question at the MG AGM you just might get shit on your face!

On the topic of DJ line-ups, I only noticed yesterday the line-up for the Arrivals party - looks bloody good. Smokin Jo (ex-Trade, DTPM), Malcolm Duffy (Trade, DTPM) and Alex Taylor. And in the Dome for only $35. I'll be there!

Coco La Chicci - Wed Feb 2 12:01:26 2000
Yes disappointed to the max, your friend didn't get picked so stop the sour grapes whinging. Only 2 overseas DJ's is fine, it will be nice to listen to what is happening overseas, and if you don't like it, move to another hall. Whilst I do agree its a very long set in the Hordern , that will only be a problem if you don't like his music but you will have a choice of moving over to RHI/Dome/Mens/Womens halls. You will never please everyone but can't understand why with all these Halls to choose from there is bitching ? Instead of maybe staying in your fav hall , try moving around a bit.
Wed Feb 2 12:09:14 2000
yellow.s has the party sold out yet ?
King Dong - Wed Feb 2 13:06:30 2000
red.s Get off Glenn's back! The truth of the matter is that the 'soul' of MG started fading years ago and all the efforts of one man and his devoted Committee are not going to reverse that damage in one year. It is the current make-up of the Membership that are to blame. It is the current make-up of the membership that cause all you concerned members to bitch about the party faults. A Board many years ago made this current make-up of membership possible - it is time for MG to become truly queer, not just pretend to be. Striaghts out - Queers In. Good luck Glenn regardless what the dickheads say!
You should know by now not to listen - Wed Feb 2 13:44:43 2000

Wed Feb 2 16:05:55 2000
No No No No please get off this straight thing.......if you don't like MG having straight/bi members then don't be a member. Yes there will be straight bar/security/ticket collecters and partygoers although they will be in the minority......... If you really don't like them being a part of MG ,get off your arse and go to the annual meeting to vote them out. Hasn't this already been tried though ? if so it hasn't worked and besides there are probably civil rights or laws against doing this anyway.Whilst I want the majority of the board/members to be Gay I would vote against such a move, but thats my right as I am quite comfortable with my bi/straight friends and would rather party with them than people like Gay & Proud.
Happy with life - Wed Feb 2 16:30:24 2000
Yes Happy with Life I like attending with my gay and straight friends also and the MG Board is majority gay and the majority of members are gay. Curious to find out how " You should know by now not to listen" would define queer ???????? ( actually I think this is probably Gay & Proud again ). These people won't get off their arse and attend meetings to vote , but are quite happy to print their crap and embarrass us.
Wed Feb 2 16:38:43 2000
What is your defination of queer ? - You should know by now not to listen ? There will be 15 DJ's of which 2 ? are overseas DJ's so whats the problem. Looking forward to listening to something different and if you object either don't go or move to another Hall - You Have The Choice. There are 7 areas to choose from. Whilst I don't want MG overrun by bi's/straights , I am happy for them to attend also.

Wed Feb 2 17:06:30 2000
Hey Glenn...why did Mardi Gras decide to hire overseas DJs when there is soooo much local talent in Sydney?? Shouldn't the party be an event to highlight the locals, rather than employ others from overseas? When it comes down to the crunch, you have taken a job from an Australian and given it to an overseas person. Doesn't sound like Mardi Gras spirit to me, especially under the guise of the 'Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras'.
curious - Wed Feb 2 17:32:03 2000
Shouldn't a Party of international stature showcase a mix of both local and international DJs? (with 13 of the 15 being local)

Have you noticed that the two international DJs have not been given more billing than the local talent - except in what people here have chosen to post about?

purple.s dear "Happy With Life", my comment re: straight bar staff, ticket collectors etc.. was very tongue in cheek. I only wanted to highlight the absurdity of some of these posts. ----- My 2 cents worth on the Calderone debate - he's a good DJ that has certainly paid his dues in the gay world. he's played at almost every major gay event in the world & it's time he did Mardi Gras. for gods sake, he remixes the worlds biggest fag hag (la Ciccone) to Glenn & the party board, dont listen to these whining freaks, it's about time that MG took a small risk & broke the tired old formula that leeson embedded in many peoples heads and I'm thankful that you guys are doing it.

Stop kidding yourselves MG, you've come a long way, but you've got a long way to go. There are still people besides unsuccessful DJs who aren't happy with the 1 dimensional (read DJs only) party line up.

From thecircuitdog.com Best Circuit DJ. Just for the record. I don't believe in this award. Because it's so personal and it's not fair to anyone who is further down on the list. Familiarity doesn't mean the best. And this is also about pills and emotions and hidden reasons why you thought the DJ flatlined or was fabulous. Yet...I couldn't agree more. I Adore Manny because is so F'n fab, and has supported this website. And I think Victor is an unbelievable talent, who I goof on, but I would probably shiver and vomit if I ever met him. red.s Wow, just received an email from the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby, seems they have been reading that "other" wall (you know the one that got closed down because of all the name calling and hair pulling) and took my suggestion that the reason they don't have as many members is because they don't throw any "cool" parties. Well now they are!!!

There will be a fundraising party at Customs House (down near Circular Quay) right after the launch. Kate Monroe will be DJing. Sounds like it'll be fun. And it's about time somone capitalised on the party atmosphere that happens around the launch of the festival. And I'm glad that the Rights Lobby is the one who will be reaping the rewards. Finally MG will get back to it's political roots in a roundabout kind of way.

purple.s So what about the shows??? Enuf bitching about the DJ's already. I'm just happy my DJ God Luke leal got a spot. I am predicting Village People to do "In the Navy" to close, seeing as Chelsea Buns was looking for around 60 'sailor hats'. As she outfits lots of stuff for MG, I'm taking that as a signal. Others 'in the know' told me Cher has been confirmed, but as she has shows in the US on the following dates: 1 Mar Roanoke, VA Roanoke Civic Center 3 Mar Boston, MA Fleet Center 4 Mar Philadelphia, PA First Union I think she can be seriously dismissed. Madonna rumours are again doing the rounds, but who can tell?? I have also heard Tina Cousins (A big bit at Frisky parties Sleaze recovery/NYE Recovery) is doing a show which will be ok, but she is seriously close to over-exposure. What has everyone else heard???

red.s Im sorry i have agree about victor calderone playing such a long set.Why should he.What demands has he played on MG to get this gig.Ive already heard he has demanded this bizarre mixer that no one in australia has ever seen before.Instead of the levers going up and down they are rotary nobs.WHat about sveta? she will be lost with that piece of machinery.if mister calderone is to get a gig then he should be treated the same way as the local dj's and paid accordingly the same.im sick of paying big bucks for big names only to be let down so often.
VC better put his ego back in his pocket - Thu Feb 3 2:36:06 2000
trying again with a new name? since you know nothing about how MG came to choose VC or what he is being paid, why don't you just give it a rest and try to hone up on your own mixing skills? otherwise, put your money where your whining mouth is and tell us exactly how much he is being paid and how you K N O W he has demanded a 'bizarre mixer'. assuming he has 'asked' for one, why wouldn't MG be able to provide two mixers? is that really so logistically impossible? put your own ego back in your pocket, give up the conspiracy theories, and grow up.
Over hysterical DJs blaming others because they didn't get a spot - Thu Feb 3 2:59:50 2000
blue.s Would you dickheads stop whinging about the overseas DJs? As a young poof who has been attending Mardi Gras for 5 years, I was well contemplating not going to this years party. I'd been let down too many times bye boring-arsed international performers from yesteryear and some quite tired-sounding DJs. With this year's selection of DJs, including the two internationals, I've been wooed back by Mardi Gras. I'm really happy that Mardi Gras have gone out and done something a bit different. I know the music won't be to my exact personal taste, but I take delight in experiencing new, interesting things. I'm personally a little sick of the DJs in Sydney and welcome a bit of variety!! I agree we have some DJs with some fantastic talent, but when one goes out and hears so many playing so similarly I believe it is a welcome and well deserved refreshment to the ears and souls of us punters to be introduced to the talents of people we don't normally have access to! Thank you Mr Horder and Party Committee. Happy Mardi Gras all :o)
The idiot formerly known as... - Thu Feb 3 10:28:11 2000
Dear Mr Blackwell, I knew your comments were all tongue-in-cheek, I just get so pissed off with the anti everyone who is not Gay brigade. Of my 3 tickets I bought ,2 are for gays and 1 is for my best straight friend so even if the MG membership was 100% gay, they cannot stop a member inviting a straight guest but there off that subject now thank goodness and trying to stick-it to MG re the DJ's. We have a number of local DJ's who are quite successful getting overseas DJ jobs and out of the 15 DJ's for MG only 2 are Intl. They must really live a dull life or like others have hinted, its just a disgruntled DJ who didn't get a spot. They didn't get the spot because they weren't good enough.
Thu Feb 3 10:42:47 2000
To: Mr over hysterical; Are you going to alledge that the same person is repeatedly making whinges about the dj selection or can you step into the light for just a second and admit that there just MAY be quite alot of flack flying around re this overseas dj selection thingy.I supposes not as you are so shallow and narrow minded that you couldnt see passed your own ego to see ya fat arse !
theres more than one uphappy camper on this page - Thu Feb 3 11:14:52 2000
If my calculations are correct, then there is a total playing time in the Hordern of 11 hours (10pm till 9am). If Sveta is playing for 5 hours, then Victor will be playing for 6 hours (possibly 7 if the hours of the Hordern are extended). What's the hype about the "long 8 hour sets". Also, don't forget other DJ's who are Australian also doing long sets - Jake Kilby all night in the Carnivale tent, and the other double act DJ's in the Womens, Mens and Costume Tents. I understand and sympathise with all the issues involved on both sides of the international DJ argument, but really, Mardi Gras is an international party. Other international parties such as Black and Blue in Canada hire the odd Aussie DJ (Rob Davis, Brent Nicholls). The international mix of DJ's at Mardi Gras could potentially open up doors for Australian DJ's (I can only hope). Besides, Victor is a sensational DJ and producer (heard him for 8 hours at the Roxy NYC), so why not just have a listen.
Over the hype - Thu Feb 3 12:06:03 2000
I've heard Victor in Miami. Not my cup of tea. But he sure is worshipped like a God.

red.s How Nazi state! Speak out against the sacred cow and you're dismissed as being a disgruntled & dejected DJ! Well I don't own any records but still think we need more depth & vision at our MG party. Take it as constructive criticism only "Mr Horder & Committee". Good luck anyway!

Thu Feb 3 15:09:08 2000
ok ok ok ok enough of the straight/bi thing, enough of the DJ thing. Show rumours please and preferably with a 99% accurancy. I dont want to have to stand up squashed like a sardine in the RHI for an hour or so just to have some tired old show person come on. Would rather spend that time dancing in another Hall. Thanks,
Thu Feb 3 15:11:13 2000
To the Committee and Glen Horder, wow!!!.... im now getting very excited about this party. This will be my first Mardi Gras as every year b4 I have had to work - ive done sleaze and other parties but never a Mardi Gras. This will definately be one to remember. To all the Australian DJ's that missed out - at least you will be able to go to the party and not worry about having it together at a certain time because you have to work.
Hlg - Thu Feb 3 15:22:21 2000
Is there such a thing ? A rumour with 99% accuarcy I think that just about qualifies it as a FACT. A lot of us have fun speculating the who, what and where's of a Mardi Gras till the night becomes real.

Thu Feb 3 16:12:38 2000
The Mardi Gras party hasn't completely sold out
Thu Feb 3 16:13:38 2000
Shows? Maddy of course. It's part of the deal with her very good friend Victor. And Cher wants to be here for her mate Wayne's set.
T'is twue! - Thu Feb 3 17:15:29 2000
Excuse me but I take offence at the suggestion that there's no such thing as a 99% accurate rumour. I told you who the four live acts were and in what order they would be performing last year, even though there was much self-satisfied laughter about the idae of Jimmy Barnes appearing. It hasn't been quite so easy this year, some of the leaks have been plugged, but I'm nothing if not tenacious about these things. Stay tuned. I'm doing my best : )

green.s memorable moment: standing near the stage in the RHi while Kylie, resplendent in pink tutu, was singing her usual popsicle number and this girl was on all fours licking my black and white, fake fur, cow hide trousers all over. When the song finished I turned to leave and the said girl wrapped her arms around my legs and refused to let go. So there I was dragging this drug-f***ked women along the floor, while trying to maintain a monogomous conversation with my glowstix. I've been to scared to wear those pants ever since!

dear 99%, do you really think "M" will be there ? you twinks get yourselves worked into such a tizzy every year over the minute chance that she'll perform. On March 2, the premiere of her new film is happening in London, on March 3, she's doing some party/charity bebefit that Donnatella Versace is throwing in Miami. MG is on the 4th, correct ? now, do your maths & calculate the time difference, time it takes to fly here and time needed to rehearse, sound check & rest etc... Sorry darlin, but I cant see it happening this year (again)
Mr Blackwell - Fri Feb 4 15:13:03 2000
I can't see it happening ever really. Mardi Gras may be a huge event and the best party on the planet to us (sometimes) but I doubt that it's anything but small bikkies to the likes of Madonna and Cher. Australia is a long way away and pretty insignificant as a market. It's a long way to travel for a ten minute show for what? 9,000 admittedly enthusiastic queers? Making a habit of having live performers has raised people's expectations beyond the reasonable. Wouldn't it be better if MG just staged great and innovative shows and stop worrying about putting so much time and effort into trying to secure big names?
EC - Fri Feb 4 16:08:51 2000
Dear Mr Blackwell, this is a fun graffiti wall for gossip and rumours.......was told M is out here for opening of Versace Hotel on the Gold Coast but early March....... and Dear EC don't wet your panties...even with reasonably big names of past, MG has still put on great stage shows.......still the only way to really know is to wait till Fri/Sat and watch the news as anyone really big won't be able to sneak in.
99% just having fun - Fri Feb 4 17:45:38 2000

A Long long time ago,I can still remember how the music used to make me smile. And I knew if I had my chance, that I could make those people dance and maybe they'd be happy for a while. But February made me shiver...with every paper I deliver.Bad news on the doorstep,I couldnt take one more step.I cant remember if i cried when i heard about his windowed bride...but something touched me deep inside...the day....the music Died !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bye bye Miss america pie, drove my chevie to the levy but the levy was dry and good old boys drinking whiskey and rye singing this will be the day that i die............(verse 2) Did you write the book of love, and did you have faith in God above...if the Bible tells you so.And do you believe in rock n roll or can music save your moral soul and can you teach me to dance real slow....Well i know that your in love with him cause i saw you dancing in the gym...you both kicked off ya shoes and you digged those rhythm n blues...oh,I was a lonely teenage bronkin' buck with a pink carnation and a pick up truck but i knew i was out of luck the day...the music died.....(chorus) then (verse 3).........Now for 10yrs weve been on or own and moss grows fat from a rolling stone but thats not how it used to be....Well the Jester sang for the king and queen in a jacket borrowed from James Dean and a vote that came from you and me....And while the king was looking down, the Jester stole his thorny crown...the court room was adjourned...NO verdict was returned....and while Lennon read a book on Marx the court tip practised in the park and we sand derges in the dark the day the music died............(Verse 4)............Helter skelter in the summer swelter the birds flew off to the fall out shelter,8 miles high and falling fast and it landed flat out on the grass, but the players tried for a forward pass with the jester sidelined with a cast....the half time air was sweet perfume while the sargents played a marching tune...we all got up to dance ...but we never got the chance..because the players tried to take the field, the marching band would not yield,Do you recall what was reveiled the day the music died..........(Verse 5)............Oh there we were in one place...a generation lost in space....with no time left to start again. So come on Jack be nimble jack be quick Jack Flash sat on a candlestick, cause the fire was the devils only friend. And as I watched him on the stage my hands were clinched in a fit of rage...No angel born in Hell can break that Satans spell. And as the plane climed high into the night to who like a sacrificial rite I saw Satan laughing in delight...the day the music died......(verse 6)......I met a girl who sang the blues and i asked her for some happy news but she just smiled and walked away. Then i went down to the sacred stone where i heard the music years before but the man said the music wouldnt play. And in the streets the children screamed the lovers cried and the poets dreamed..but not a word was spoken, the church bells were all broken...and the 3 men I admire the most, the father son and the holy Ghost..they all caught the last train for the coast..the day..the music died......SO Bye Bye miss american pie drove my chevvie to the levy but the levy was dry...and good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye singing this will be the day that i Die !

Mark and I'm .... - Sun Feb 6 18:31:21 2000
lots of words are incorrect in your version of American Pie. memory is a strange thing. Madonna's version is very different - only a few verses included
Mon Feb 7 2:46:49 2000
Disagree that the staging in the RHI was great at Sleaze - doesn't anybody miss the grand scale of the whole space being intact. Sleaze was like two little parties rather than one big celebration - and the stage stuffed the lighting. Pride was also a disaster - the crowd whirled around the stage all night which meant that there was nowhere to dance as the crowd kept pushing past. It would be great to see one huge beautifully lit space again.
Mon Feb 7 8:35:21 2000
red.s I saw advertised a party - Village People and Culture Club - in the Horden the Sunday before the party. I would guess that they will leave the stage from that.
Mon Feb 7 9:07:10 2000
Yeah I agree, the dance floor is sacred and shoving things in the middle of it breaks it up and also with Halls like the RHI, that huge open dance floor with the usual fantastic lighting is unbeatable. That seemed to be lost at Sleaze. Pride was great but again a lot of dance floor area was lost.

purple.s i am sooo looking forward to attending this new party that was once called the SyDNEY gay and lesbain MG. I hear MG have publically floated the event on the USA stock exchange....so now its the american MG in sydney... Shame on you Mg for selling this city down the drain.
Tue Feb 8 20:08:18 2000
green.s Thankyou for that info "Disco Bitch' and "Sure to be fantastic". I can now rest easy. Oh well, seems like most opinion here is against the stage in the middle (funnily enough, this didn't appear after Sleaze 99). I know it won't be there this year as Mardi Gras generally has "famous" acts as against community shows. A stage in the middle needs virtually double of everything, so that both sides can see. (And I doubt Cher and George will be doing a duet) I thought it was good for 3 reasons. 1. Less people pushing in one direction (now at least there are 2 directions)to see the shows. 2. Those in the RHI are closer to the stage. 3. Just because it was different. I appreciate the fact that it involved thinking outside the well used square (or triangle;-)). If not having it in the centre means that the lighting designers have more of a free reign, I can live with the stage at the end. Mind you, there maybe other places than the front and back, that would still work.
Mark and I'm ..... - Tue Feb 8 20:50:33 2000
Actually I've always enjoyed it when the stage has been on the side and the focus of tha party has been turned 90 degrees. That way you can still get a good view without having to stand in a sea of overheated people for an hour or more before a show. And maybe with the L-word and Minogue years behind us the stage in the RHI won't need to take up a third of the dancefloor.
EC - Tue Feb 8 21:17:34 2000
No more stage in the middle - please get rid of it MG - it cuts down space and is very restrictive.
MG Groover - Tue Feb 8 22:13:33 2000

does anyone else think the statement "This is a Lesbian & Gay Event Please Think Carefully Before You Invite Your Guests" is completely offensive, reactionary, likely to make our straight friends feel less than welcome (which is the opposite of what gay lobbyists have gained for us) & printed on tickets only to make a small number of narrow-minded people feel better about their frustrations?

Chi Chi Fontaine - Wed Feb 9 0:38:27 2000
Then why don't they say that instead of "this is a gay and lesbian event...blah blah blah", as if gay men don't hassle gay women at the parties all the time (hence the need for a women's space).

Ref "i am sooo looking forward" if you think you've been sold out by MG , its easy don't go........Funny, tkts have sold out so maybe a lot are happy with what MG is doing ? No stage in the middle, on the side was great as more had a better view ( from the back of the RHI you see nothing when the stage is in its usual spot ). Ref " does anyone else think " - no I think that is fine to say that. Agree with Chi Chi it would be better to print no homophobe yobbo pricks.....I take a couple of my straight friends and they are better behaved than the militant queens whousually embarrass us. Don't understand the bi/straight crap, gays can have best friends who are bi/straight and why shouldn't they invite them on their tkt alotment, it is their choice, not for others to make.
Wed Feb 9 9:41:36 2000
Writing of staging - let's get onto even smaller issues - get rid of the lighting rig in the middle of the Dome as well. It wasn't there for Sleaze, but was for both Pride & Inquisition. It has had a very curious effect on crowd dynamics at both - and more: I want to be able to see Bill Cotzis from every direction.
I want him - Wed Feb 9 9:41:50 2000
To Ms Wed Feb 9 1:23:28:2000 "as if gay men don't hassle women " in 20yrs of going out I have never seen a gay man abuse a women ( although I am sure it happens ) but in that 20yrs I or someone in our group has been bumped and bumped into by a butch dyke or verbally abuses ( try " you Aids spreader " )etc.....I think its great to have the womens space as now , there is no more bumping/pushing etc. And ladies, I do realise its only some girls who act like that just the same as its great certain guys get their own tent but certainly have seen more abuse from the women than the men. Now what war of words will this start ?
Wed Feb 9 9:48:14 2000
Mardi Gras is also a Transgender event, but that never gets printed anywhere.
Wed Feb 9 12:00:44 2000
Yeah I'd like to see the name go back to Mardi Gras. Gay & Lesbian does exclude transgender/bi/straight/eunuch/and any other sexual preference......

Nat - Wed Feb 9 13:25:16 2000
I was joking
Mr Blackwell - Wed Feb 9 13:48:06 2000
Nat , read Wed Feb 9 1:23:28 2000 She slagged of that gay men hassle the ladies.......I also have never seen a gay guy hassle a dyke but have witnessed many times and been "bumped" around by them also her comment did deserve a few replies but as someone else pointed out the hardcore/militant males/females have their own tent so its all peace and quiet now.
Wed Feb 9 14:39:07 2000
I agree with Nat. Misogynist crap. And 'ladies'? Get a grip on which century you're living in. And Mardi Gras was never just 'Mardi Gras' except on a t-shirt that some people who should have known better thought would be more marketable without the 'gay' at the time.
EC - Wed Feb 9 14:45:56 2000
EC prefer it to be Gay Mardi Gras. Gay & Lesbian does limit it so why not go back to one word to cover all sexes ( is there one ? ) at least Gay covered it in general. As for "ladies" and which century your living in. What do
