the heLp Word @ Midsumma
We've added two extra shows - 10pm tonight and 6pm Sunday for the heLp word because we've sold out. For tonight door sales are welcome - try booking for Sunday cause it will fill quickly...
Glitch Bar
318 St Georges Rd, North Fitzroy. Tram 112 at the door.
I've been to it twice now and loved it both times. Honestly, iOTA is amazing. The music is amazing. It's well worth your hard-earned to go see it.
Holding The Man was also absolutely fantastic.
I'm off to Boy I Am tonight... hope that's enjoyable! I went to see While You Are Here last night and I'm quite sure I was the only girl in the whole cinema. It was quite amusing I must say!
"Boy I Am" was well attended at the Dendy last night. We liked it a lot, and there was some discussion later on back at the Newtown Hotel. Also nice to be able to have a cold beer/glass of red, while watching a movie. Go the Dendy!
Boy I Am was very good indeed, it certainly opened my eyes. Not too keen on the whole trans thing, or the overly butch look or whatever but it was a great film none the less... I think I actually found myself slightly attracted to one of the bois actually. Hehehe.
Slit launch was another fun night. Gratz to all the contributing artists and their models for some seriously hot work and things to make you go "hmmm..." And the T edition is excellent stuff.
Is it over yet? Nope, another week of party season to go. Then sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep, glorious sleep!
We have fantastic news! After many many requests for Les De-Luxe to grace us on a Saturday night, we are on the move!
And to keep us fresh, footloose and fancyfree, there will be NO Les De-Luxe on Friday 2 March, as we would love to see everyone at the parade and party... Yah!
This year's Mardi Gras pre-parade celebrations - Foreplay - is going to be bigger, better and more booty than you can shake!
The fun stars from 5:30pm with....wait for the drumroll, The Love Police who will be out in force twisting and turning their corrupt ways in a performance of titillation and tease. This crazy crew of seductive lipstick smearing grrls can always be relied upon to have everyone crazy with lust and quivering with delight!
So come along to the parade and get some Love Police action with Bob Downe, Aunty Mavis, Dikes on Bikes, Circus Wow, Joyce Maynge plus heaps more...
We are also busy putting together the final touches for the hottest girls night in May - the ulitimate girls dance party is now every 6 months. It's going to be an extraordinary night with some of Australia's biggest performers. I can't wait!
Have a safe Mardi Gras and remember to look after your friends.
Happy Mardi Gras!!!
Janine x
PS - There is NO Les De-Luxe on Friday 2 March but we will be back on a Saturday night so stay tuned....
So, how was everyone's Mardi Gras parade, party, etc? I watched the Parade from the BGF Glamstand which was good. At Party, I never ventured into the women's only space... doesn't really do it for me. Spent most of my time in The Forum (very unusual for me) mainly due to the member's area and being able to sing along to the music (yay for Kylie)!
This Sunday 11 March, The Flinders Hotel will be hosting a new weekly event...'Cattle call' - The Open Mic Preformance Space.
Cattle Call will open the stage to anyone in the community with something to share; from music, dance and drag to poetry, comedy, magic and more.
All performers will recieve a drink voucher for their effort, as well as going into the running for huge weekly prizes.
Registration opens at 4pm with performances starting at 5pm. Everyone is welcome!!
Um, yeah, I'm the same, never did it for me and still doesn't... wow, I thought I was the only lez on the face of the planet who didn't get off on the Love Police or girly stripper shows at our parties and pubs... nice to know there are other girls on the same wave length.
Hi all,
You may have seen me in the short film "Seeya Rach" at the My Queer Career Awards on the opening night of the Mardi Gras Film Fest... well I'm shamelessly plugging my latest play... Come and check out "Love's Triumph", which also stars Garry Scale, the lead drag king in the short film "Prada Handbag" which won the audience award. I'm playing a prostitute, and he's playing the woman (yes woman) who runs the brothel.
Season runs March 28 - April 21 at the Darlinghurst Theatre. More details and bookings at www.darlinghursttheatre.com and click on "coming soon". Hope to see you there!
just recently moved to Sydney and am a little lost on where the lesbians hang out. I looked around Leichhardt then realized it's no longer the "Dyke-heart" that it used to be, despite what the Google search results tell me. It's now pretty much the domain of young, straight families.
I went to Newtown to look for Succulent Cafe on the advice of a page on the SSO website as it is apparently a fave lezzie hangout. I get there and all I see is young, straight families(not that there's anything wrong with that, some of my best friends are young, straight families...).
I did see some gay couples walking the streets of Newtown though, but not as much as I thought there would be.
So the question I put forward to this board is "where do lesbians hang out during the day?". Surely, not everyone stays at home recovering from the dance parties?
Can you recommend any cafes or bookstores for this clueless gal?
On a more risque note, does anyone know if there is a female-centric sex shop around town? I walked around Oxford St and saw the Toolshed. The attendant was very nice, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a women-owned and operated one?(geez, I feel like a total lez now after that question...)
The Pleasure Chest in Newtown is great. Not sure if it's the owner but there is a great female assistant who knows what's what and provides her personal recommendations. From her vast knowledge, I would say she has tried just about everything in that shop!

is it just me, or is eddie coulter annoying. I just dont know what it is, but i get the feeling he's a straight dj cashing in on the gay scene in order to advance his career as a dj - now before you start calling me a straight dj basher - all i am saying is that with djs such as paul goodyear, neal crawford, jojo you see them partying out on the scene, and they have a real connection with their largely gay audiences, i dont get that with eddie

The Frocks were chosen to be the first live band in over 20 years to perform at 2005 Sydney’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Party as well as performing in the closing show at Sleaze Ball 2005 in the Hordern Pavillion. More recently The Frocks have also performed in shows for community events and fund raisers like 2006 BGF’s Glamstand performing alongside entertainers such as Jimmy Barnes and Diesel.
The band covers songs from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and current music, including a diverse range of rock, pop, funk, rap, R and B and soul. The Frocks also write and produce their own original material.
I vote for MaXxx Black adult store on King St Newtown upstairs from the gelato shop / Happy Chef
The female co-owner is making it into a really classy store with loads of nice things to look at and try (ask the store attendants)

i have to agree, but hey, why shouldn't he (eddie) take an opportunity if he gets one. would you turn around to a gay dj playing in a straight club and say "you shouldn't be here!" No way.
Candy Lips parties have always been advertised on Inthemix. Pics have always been up there too. I wouldn't worry too much. I don't think you'd be getting too many straights... certainly not any more than usual anyway.
Candy Lips events have always been on the In the Mix website due to great ticketing and photo services, which is very popular for ticketing. I actually forgot to add to ITM that it is a GLTBQ event, which I will do now. Thanks for the reminder!
Tickets sales are now available through the GLTBQ version of ITM, www.samesame.com.au and its sister website, ITM.
You may find a sprinkle of straight women at Candy Lips events, which generally are venue staff and sponsors but 99% of punters are GLTBQ. You will find this at all GLTBQ events.
See you at Moist this Friday night, as the Love Police are performing a mashed-up hip hop bender at 12:30am on the main stage.
Candy Lips is proud to bring you - A night at the Candy Mansion – the hottest and biggest themed all-girl dance party, over 2 levels to be held @ ARQ on Friday 11 May.
Frock up and be fabulous! Think hot pants, playboy bunnies, rat pack, big sunglasses, sequins, glowmesh, glitter, glamour and the shiniest of disco balls from the era of Studio 54 and the Playboy Mansion. Candy Lips is held every 6 months, so some come along and get your fix!
I'm going to Canberra for work and haven't got the foggiest idea where anything GAY or more precisely Lezzo is? Where does one go for coffee at 6.30am on her way to work? Gay or at least friendly gyms for a mega tattooed lezzo? Alternative accommodation - inexpensive and clean (in case mine turns out to be dodgy)?? Bars/Clubs/Cafe's to hang out mid week? Any help, directions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
what were they thinking at the sly fox last night! A uniform party could have been so hot but the shows ruined it. they could have had a lot of sexy girls doing really cool stuff
no the crowds were ok just shows were dreadfull normally hot girlys and quirky performers, instead there was a large woman with a not very imaginative show, couldnt move etc
Oh my God, every lesbian should go see her! She was absolutely amazing. Like watching a lesbian porn musical. Awesome stuff. I was never attracted to her before but now.... phew! Can't cope!

She's another straight performer cashing in on the pink dollar. If she was a dyke using dyke imagery because it's natural to her then I'd support her. But that's not the case, she's not even bisexual. In interviews she's very hetero and very married to her husband. So why not use hetero imagery to push her stage show/image.
What does it actually matter? I would have thought that her using lesbian imagery would have been more dangerous for her career rather than making her more successful. I don't care if she's straight or not, if she's hot and she's using hot girls, it's enough for me She's a great and talented performer and that's all there is to it - gay, straight, bi or whatever!
Why is it "unfair" that her career isn't ruined by using gay imagery? Pink has always been very pro gay and lesbian, pro gay marriage, anti homophobia, etc... There's absolutely no reason she shouldn't use gay imagery in her show as far as I'm concerned, just as much as gay people should be able to use straight imagery in anything creative they do. It's entertainment, she's a performer, what happens on stage isn't supposed to be taken literally anyway....
Join us for cocktails at the Bank Hotel on Wednesday 9 May for a cheeky warm-up to Candy Lips with the Love Police, Renee Kennett, Kelly Lynch and Candy Mansion ticket give-aways.
Help - We are having a moment !

Cherry Party at Slide is having another girls party on the June long weekend. Has anyone been to their parties before? What kind of girly crowd does it pull? Is it a Candy Lips type crowd?
Bitch & FagTag join forces for 'Get Together' Sat 9 June
Sneaky Sound System To Headline Get Together
They’ve shared the stage with Robbie Williams, the Scissor Sisters, Jamiroquai and James Brown, were named “one of the most sought after acts in the world” by the Daily Telegraph and their single “Pictures” has spent over three months in the number one spot on the club charts.
Now Sneaky Sound System have just been confirmed as the headline act for Get Together on the June Long Weekend. Get Together is the unique event that Fag Tag and Bitch are joining forces to create on Saturday June 9 at The Forum and surrounding spaces to continue the important tradition of Hand-in-Hand and raise much needed funds for the AIDS Council of NSW (ACON) on the Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend
Get Together will be the first time that Sneaky Sound System have played to a gay and lesbian audience in Sydney since taking the world by storm with the release of their platinum-selling debut album. Their breakthrough hit “Pictures” has spent more than three months at the top of the club charts (“I’ve got lots of pictures in my head, you better not turn off the projector…oohh!”) and their legendary live performances have seen them perform at every major stadium in the country, the recent MTV Awards and at Live Earth next month.
Enchanting lead singer Connie Mitchell, MC Double D, Black Angus and the Sneaky Sound System band will be performing all of their current hits, including “Pictures”, “UFO” and “I Love It”, in the intimate surrounds of The Forum at the Entertainment Quarter (formerly Fox Studios) as part of the 8-hour Get Together winter festival-style event.
Sneaky Sound System will be joined at Get Together by some of the best local talent who will be battling it out in a unique back-to-back DJ style that sees some of the country’s favourite DJs teaming up with each other. In the main room, Alex Taylor will take on Kate Monroe on the turntables, Chip fronts up against Brisbane’s Neroli and Scott Pullen battles Sista P.
Nancy Vice – vocalist for TV Rock – Bimbo Nation will be performing live. Also vocalist Kyla Sexton, takes to the Mic with a live vocal set. In the second room, a special outdoor marquee is being erected outside of The Forum where musical legends like Stephen Allkins (Love Tattoo) will join DJs Sveta, Beatrix and GI Jode to lay down funk, soul and disco beats as a fun musical alternative to The Forum.
Get Together runs from 6pm to 2am on Saturday June 9 of the Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend. First Release tickets are $55 plus booking fee until sold out. Second Release tickets are $65 and Final Release tickets are $69. They are available from www.SameSame.com.au, HUM Records Oxford Street and Newtown and Moshtix. www.moshtix.com.au
We are. Is it true that buses will take those who want to kick onto after parties at 2am? More importantly, is it true the Flinders is the girls immediate after party space?
I'm not usually a Bitch fan but Saturday night's Get Together was one of the best dance parties I've been to in years. The DJs were faultless, the music was happy, the crowd was a perfect mix of dykes and poofs, the outside tent was full of lounges and heaters to make a warm and cosy space, Sneaky Sound System had the crowd going off and the complimentary bus ferrying patrons to the Flinders at 2am ran smoothly. What more can you ask for!?! Well done Bitch and Fag Tag.
Has Bessie Bardot broken up with her Gladiator hubby? She's been at more dykes nights than usual, including the Sly Fox tonight. Definitely not her usual postcode. Does this mean I'm in with a chance?
i just went to their myspace page - and i have to say its very funny. i feel like i am reading the small print on packaging. djs are djs, whether there a one or two or male or female. i cant help feel that they are a marketing excersise rather than a passion for music.

'LUSCIOUS' is the new Saturday ‘girls’ night about to grace us with their presence & I have to admit that if what they claim they’ll deliver is true, then I know where I’ll be on Saturday 14th July, which will be their opening night. As the name suggests, this monthly event has been created for those of you who love great music and want to enjoy it in a warm, sexy venue. You will be tempted to dance seductively, drink fabulous cocktails and pull out your most outrageous chat up lines. Resident DJ Kate Monroe who needs no introduction will be spinning up a storm, together with Neroli, and GI Jode. 9pm – late, $10 entry. This night is also a proud supporter of Acon’s Lesbian Health Project – donating a portion of door proceeds to this worthy cause.
Every 3rd Saturday of the month thereafter @ The Flinders Hotel 63 Flinders St Darlinghurst 2010

its great to see more new girls nights happening around town. Braved the weather last night and went down to Schmoo at the oxford hotel. Had a great time and boogie to Kate Monroe and Sista P. cant wait to hear Kate again this Saturday at the Flinders for the other new girls night on there called "Luscious" sounds like it will be a great night
I just want to tell evryone how great Luscious was. The Flinders looked amazing and there were plenty of sexy ladies there. Will definately be going back next time.. What did everyone else think?
Me too. I had a great time. Great music and fabulous vibe. The venue looked great too. Many sexy ladies with just a splattering of really nice gay boys. People there who I've not seen out for years!!I saw Ian Roberts there as well as Magda Szubanski. I'll definately be there for the next one. I think it's on the 18th Aug as that's the third Sat of the month. Can anyone confirm or know who's DJ'ing?
MOIST @ Arq Sydney was the most lived and loved girls event on the calendar..
Last month we said good bye to a fucking fabulous party and the end of an era..
This Friday, Event Producer, Leana, in conjuction with Arq Sydney, are now raising the bar for chics events with a brand new party - LICKALISIOUS!
For first release info on show details and times, special guests and DJ set times, a bulletin will be posted on our MySpace very soon.. Keep you eye out for it!
What do people think of the name 'LICKalisious'? Personally I think its disgusting..i would have thought that Arq could have come up with a much classier name.. just my opinion though.
The next L Bar club night is on Saturday 18th August.
It's Matchmaking night.
Let the L Unit girls match you up with Ms Right or Ms Right Now!
The L Unit will also be cruising all 3 floors with their sassy attitudes dancing, flirting and partying with you. Handing out free shotz, drinks and giveaways.
Resident DJ sistaSPIN will be joined by Lauren A pumping out the best in house, electro & anthems, so the top floor is bound to be electric.
Chillout with a wine and conversation in our chillout lounge when you need a break from the buzz.
Bar specials will be running all night!
Doors open 9pm til late
Entry = $10
Where: Blue Velvet Bar - 60 Smith St - Collingwood
I AM, I AM, I AM! I can't wait for it (of course)! Am slightly disappointed that some of my fave DJ's didn't make the DJ list but I'm more than happy to hear some other DJ's rock it for the night. Now, what will I wear...
'LUSCIOUS’ – Sat 18th July @ Flinders Hotel 63 Flinders St Darlinghurst 9pm
After the huge launch of ‘LUSCIOUS’ last month we are proud to bring you the second night of this fabulous monthly event which falls on the 3rd Sat of each month.
For those of you who love great music and want to enjoy it in a warm, sexy venue, this is the night for you. You will be tempted to dance seductively, drink fabulous cocktails and pull out your most outrageous chat up lines. See the SAMESAME website for reviews and pics of last months launch.
DJ’s G.I.Jode & Sista P, both of whom need no introduction, will be spinning up a storm, together with the glamorous Suzanne from 9pm – late. There will also be a surprise musical performance.
This night is also a proud supporter of Acon’s Lesbian Health Project – donating a portion of door proceeds to this worthy cause.
CORRECTION - after one too many light beer shandies I have managed to create a typo with the next LUSCIOUS date!!
The next LUSCIOUS is actually the 18th AUGUST not JULY!!!
I would also suggest that they consider a spell check next time...presuming it is intended to be Lickalicious. Sorry but that kind of thing just shits me to tears.
This has been mentioned before - neither Lickalicious nor Lickalisious are real words, so a spell check is pointless. It's a false word in any case, so what's the big deal?
the ending of that word: -cious has a correct spelling. it is 'CIOUS' so why not use the correct spelling. Obviously you do not have to, but it would seem to read better if you do.
I just read an article in MCV issue 344 (apparently Australia's leading GLBTIQ weekly media) on Butch/Femme relationships. The article by Jason Foster is apparently 'a critical look at butch/femme gender roles'.
I have to say I have NEVER been as offended and disgusted at an article written about a segment of the gay community as this one. Here is the link:
1) 'Fortunately, among gay males in particular, the butch/femme routine has become largely passe.'
or perhaps this one - when describing his recent observations of a butch/femme female couple in a cafe:
'...the Femme was delicately sipping a glass of white winewhile the butch insisted on swigging a stubbie over dinner. Strangely enough, the straight males at various other tables seemed to think wine complimented their meals better than beer. But I guess they didnt feel they had anything to prove.'
If you think i've taken these comments out of context, think again - and beleive me there are plenty more misinformed, ignorant and nasty assertions where that came from.
I'm not subscribing to the generalisations made in this article, but since the door is open I've been dying to comment on the last book of Val's that I read - it had me so disgusted by the graphic sexual violence that I swore off reading her books forever - and I used to be quite fond of her writing. I thought it was gratuitous and sick.
Hey I just wanted to say what a fantastic night I had a LUSCIOUS last Saturday night. Sexy girls, great vibe, fantastic tunes and the place looked great. Loved the percussion too. Can't wait til next months one. I hear Kate Monroe's back!!!! Thank god for something different out there for us older chicks who still like to have some fun - Well done all involved.
Just to explain - coz I'm no prude when it comes to icky bits in books - BUT - the murder weapon in this book was a dildo emedded with razor blades. Repeated, detailed references to the weapon and the torture associated with it - ugh. If that doesn't make you wonder what's going on in an author's mind...........
Or maybe I'm getting a bit sensitive in my dotage. Can't recall the name of the book, so here comes the dementia as well. sigh.
The only bars being raised at Arq are the hard-ons of all the straight boys they let through the doors at Lickerlisshus.
I propose a girls night called "suck my strap-on". I wonder how many hetero boys will turn up to that one.

Saturday September 15th - “LUSCIOUS” @ The Flinders Hotel
This month’s “Luscious” will be it’s third. The saying goes third time lucky but after two sellout gigs in the last few months we can confidently say lady luck has nothing to do with it! The Luscious team brings to you a selection of the sexiest house music, played by Sydney’s top female DJ’s and live musicians – this is our Mantra! We have created a relaxed and revamped Flinders Hotel for you to enjoy it in, what more can a girl ask for???
If you haven’t experienced “Luscious” yet, get your dancing shoes on and see us there for a drink… This month you will enjoy the smooth sounds of DJ’s Suzanne, Kate Monroe and GI Jode, together with a very special live music performance by Timmy Trumpet.. It’s warming up, and surely you can’t resist that summer vibe, that gently pulls you out to play?…
Luscious is also a proud supporter of ACON’s “Lesbian Health Project” and a portion of all door proceeds will be donated to support this very worthy cause.
So, am I the only chick that's excited about Sleaze? I see there's a women's space again. Nil interest personally but fine if other girls want/need it. What's everyone wearing? Are we going in theme? Tell me, tell me, tell me!!! :D
Cherrie is the brand new monthly magazine from Evolution Publishing, the largest publisher of GLBTIQ titles in Australia.
Cherrie is for sex-positive queer or 'not so straight' chicks who are interested in fashion, entertainment and pop culture as well as politics and global issues. Whether an urban ghetto babe, self-possessed boi, high-femme lipstick lesbian, funky fetishist or radical queer/genderqueer underground freak, Cherrie is for the gal whose sexuality and gender identity is important, but not necessarily the be-all and end-all of her life. She’s more likely to seek out the latest iPod than IVF treatments and knows that it’s possible, if not preferable, to change the world while sporting a fab new haircut!
The first issue of Cherrie(October issue) hits the streets this Thursday (September 20), so keep your eye out for it and pick it up from your favourite venues and outlets.

Congratulaions to our 5 winners, we will see you on Saturday night for what will be an awesome night!
Raise the Bar is a community campaign for you to voice your opinions on new liquor licenses being proposed for NSW. The new laws will be decided upon in the coming weeks so we must act fast.
The last time NSW had a new Liquor Act was 1982, when Malcolm Fraser was Prime Minister and the CD hadn't even been invented! We can't spend another 25 years without licenses the rest of Australia takes for granted.
Don't let your voice be drowned out by people who can pay for influence. The monopoly on NSW liquor licenses is damaging NSW socially and economically. Be a part of the change NSW has to have.
Luscious is launching in to summer & judging by the past 4 months what they have claimed to deliver is true. As the name suggests, this monthly event has been created for those of you love great music and want to enjoy it in a warm, sexy venue. With the emphasis being on Happy House Music you will be tempted to dance seductively alongside a sea of sexy ladies which has now become the key attraction to this monthly night. Saturday November the 17th’s line up sees DJ Kate Monroe, who needs no introduction, with special guest vocalist Shauna Jenson together with GI Jode & Beth Yen - fresh from the UK.

Re: the following:"LICKalisious - MOIST- Fingers First....
Why do lesbian girls insist on using tacky tastless names? its embarassing.... come on lets try and be a bit more original
J - Thu 26 Jul 2007 22:28:42"
Do you mean names like Candy, Sandy, Marty, Mandy, Gossy, Rocky, etc. all with the dreaded ending 'Y'? I think it is simply a remove from one's own [former] identity and an affirmation of gender?

WHAT: Gurlesque, strip club for women and transsexuals
WHERE: ARQ Nightclub, Taylor Square
TIME: Doors open 6.00pm. Shows start 7.15pm.
COST: $25/$20 - bargain for the amount of gash-flashing you get to see!
STARRING: Sex intents, Glitta Supernova and many more
I'm really unimpressed with the image chosen for the Bank promotion. Combined with the theme for the xmas party it is appealing directly to a het male audience and creates a very ambiguous statement of intent.
Is the Bank really catering to our lesbian market or merely using the community's lemming like behaviour to really engage another audience who will in the long term create more profit for the venue?
I was surprised to see that on the Bank's own website they proudly promote they received an award for New Hotel of the Year - are they not a new renovation, not a new venue?
Who is really prepared to put their money into our community? Where will the next great girls venue be?
The Sly Fox is trying had to cater to a very diverse crowd but it is only a wee venue. The Flinders is really the only venue on the east side with a run of regular girls nights but is again quite small. Getting to the Flinders on a Saturday is difficult if you take the Oxford St route. The Slox has had a run of bad reports of taxi drivers taking advantage of female patrons leaving under the weather and the door security have a wavering method of crowd control. What to do? Who is prepared to take a leap and try a new venue?
The demise of the Newtown and the unknown length of the Imperial renovation leaves us figuratively out on the street for some time to come.
Any ideas?
