Same-Sex Relationship study - Participants needed
I’m a researcher at Macquarie University in Sydney carrying out my PhD on domestic violence in same-sex couples.
This survey takes about 30 minutes to complete, and asks you to provide some background information about yourself, your relationship history and any experiences with conflict and abuse. You do not need to have been in an abusive relationship to fill out the survey. Some of the questions are of a personal nature, but all results are completely anonymous.
The results will be used to gain a better understanding of who, and how many, within our community have experienced domestic violence, and how this has affected their lives. It will also provide much needed information to develop support services for those who have experienced domestic violence.

Gay Men's Body Study – Please Help Us
Male Volunteers Wanted
Hello, we are Anita Galluccio, Libby Churchett and Dr. Yolanda Martins, from the School of Psychology at Flinders University. We are conducting a study on body image in gay men, examining issues that have been understudied in the past. We have recently conducted a pilot study that asked men to identify what physical appearance concerns they have. Overwhelmingly, it was reported that the following 4 items were of the greatest concern to men: body hair, head hair, height and penis size. Consequently, these physical characteristics will be investigated in further detail in the current study.
Any gay male, aged between 18 and 40 is eligible to participate. We would greatly appreciate if you would assist us by donating your time and complete a survey which examines these issues. No more than twenty minutes of your time would be required on one occasion. Please note that this survey does not request any identifying information from you – your responses will be anonymous and confidential.
If you are willing to participate please follow the weblink below to the survey. If you know of any other men who might like to participate, it would be greatly appreciated if you would forward this message on to them or direct them to this page.
Please note that the survey is password protected. You must type in the user name and password below to access the survey.

If you have any comments or questions about this survey please feel free to contact Dr Yolanda Martins at yolanda.martins@flinders.edu.au
Please note that while every effort is made to ensure this weblink is secure, this cannot be guaranteed. Thus, it is possible (though not likely) that upon submission/transmission of the completed web survey, other individuals may be able to access your responses. Your anonymity and confidentiality would still be ensured under these circumstances since (1) no identifying information is requested of you, and (2) only numerical codes, without the corresponding questions are submitted.
Finally, this study has been approved by the Flinders University Social and Behavioural Research Ethics Committee.
Thankyou for your time,

Anyone care to rant to me about their own music tastes? Frustration at the lack of indie/rock/diverse gay clubs? Or explain or dispel the stereotypes of gay men listening only to diva ballads and house/disco?

Generally people take part in such surveys because of the greater good that it would do for our community. Monetary compensation shouldn't be a consideration if it only takes you a few minutes to complete a survey that would be valuable in assisting people in a similar situation to yourself.

You've really got to loathe those researchers who started this whole "do my survey and you'll get twenty bucks" mentality. It just brings out the worst in people.
I'd be interested to know if both "what will I get $$$ for my time" postings came from the same IP address. Perhaps that kind of attitude might be of significance and should be reported within the research report. that would make an interesting study in itself.

Nobody should ever expect that everyone will want to give their valuable time for free. To do so is simply being naive.
Time is money in the current world we live in. Nobody should be critisised because they may require a payment in exchange for their time and thoughts.
Each to their own.
I wish the people putting on this survey well and hope they get lots of free volunteers. I just wont be one of them.

Thank you for your opinion and support. There is no criticism or judgement about a payment or a reward. But indeed, if the study could offer some, the participation rate might be increased. But unfortunately, the study did not get any funding from anyone, therefore, it has a difficulty to offer any practical rewards. Hopefully, you can understand it. If any word has been offended you, it is unwitting, please receive my sincere apology. The study is still looking for voluntary participants ( homosexual male + > 21 yrs, + have experienced a death-related loss). If anyone meets the critirias and would like to join the study, please contact: ching-jung.lee@adelaide.edu.au

Next people will be demanding payment for their posts (on a free forum) regardless of quality or content. In the time it takes to read through all the argument about payment vs volunteering, you could have visited and completed the survey.
Wouldn't you like a say in how resources should be allocated if you find yourself in a sitation where you've lost someone and your sexuality inteferes with the normal grieving process?

Will you be one of the 10,000 men?
A new study called Myriad: The 10,000 Men Project is asking gay men what motivates them to take part in research on sex, relationships and health.
This pilot survey will help plan a large-scale online study that will follow the social and sexual lives of gay and bisexual men in Australia.
We want to know what would make the study more attractive to participants and what technical features of an online study would help them stay involved over time. So it’s your chance to have your say.
As well as finding out how many men are willing to join the project, the pilot survey will ask how much time participants are prepared to give, what type of personal information they are willing to share and which health and lifestyle issues they would like included in the full study.
Even if you are unsure or unlikely to join the full study, the researchers would like to hear from you too.
The survey can be accessed through the study website at

The study is a joint project of the University of New South Wales and La Trobe University.

USQ Springfield Psychology Department would like to invite gay or bisexual men to

behaviours.
Volunteers taking part in the study will complete an anonymous Sexual Activity &
Behaviour Questionnaire. We are also seeking volunteers to attend a Focus Group to explore these issues more deeply.
Questionnaire:
The questionnaire consists of 25 questions on beliefs and attitudes as well as usual
behaviours, in relation to sex, drugs, alcohol, condom use and HIV. Demographic
items are also included.
Focus Groups:
A number of focus groups with 5-10 participants will be conducted to further
explore the factors that influence sex practices including common beliefs, attitudes,
and understanding of sexual behaviour.
Participants who complete the questionnaire will be invited to participate in the
focus group depending on their responses and their level of risk taking when
engaging in sexual activity.
The identity of all participants will be kept secure by the use of coding all
questionnaires and participant identities in the focus groups. All data collected will
be securely stored with only the researcher and supervisor at USQ having access to the information.
If you are interested in volunteering to take part in this research study, click on the link below to complete the questionnaire online, or cut-and-paste the link to your browser:

Same Sex Attracted Youth Aged 14-21: Make A Difference! www.wti3.org.au
Feature:
Who Pushes Your Buttons?
Introduction:
Same-sex attracted? Aged 14-21? Living in Australia? Write yourself in to Australian history by filling out the third national Australian survey on same-sex attracted youth. The “Writing Themselves In 3” survey (WTI3) was launched online this December!
By:
Tiffany Jones
Body:
It’s generally agreed that “things are getting better” for same-sex attracted youth. For a start, we have improved representation on television: there are young gay, lesbian and bi characters on shows like Glee, Queer as Folk and The L Word. There are also more “out” young celebrities like Ruby Rose. Plus, there are some pretty great websites, groups to join and services to use. On top of this, there have been some important changes in school and health policies regarding homophobia lately.
Some of these changes are directly linked to Dr Lynne Hillier’s award-winning national research on Australian same-sex attracted youth (SSAY), which placed a spotlight on issues affecting us. Her 1998 and 2004 “Writing Themselves In” surveys allowed SSAY aged 14-21 a space to share their personal experiences of sexuality, health, school and life. These stories were then used to highlight issues such as homophobic bullying and sex education needs in schools. For example, in Victoria the research was used to create a “Supporting Sexual Diversity in Schools” education policy.
But how different are things really? Is it safer to tell a mate you’re gay (or queer or trans)? Has the internet affected our experiences? Are we being bullied in schools? That’s what the third survey - launched online this December - aims to find out!
“We would like to know how youth who have sexual feelings for people of the same sex are going, whether or not they have ever acted on those feelings,” Dr. Hillier says. “The results of this research will be used to make Australia a more supportive place for sexual diversity.”.
The theme for the new survey is “Who Pushes Your Buttons?”. It refers to the people who get our heart racing; the people who turn us on, and the people who irritate or even scare us. The images that go with the survey include photographs of a huge range of coloured buttons and badges, symbolic of both sexual diversity and pride. Dr. Hillier comments, “We want to know who “pushes the buttons” of SSAY, in all kinds of ways. Who attracts them, who supports them, who and what offends them? This is a chance for them to get these things off their chest and share their feelings; and in doing so, to make a difference”.
For more information:
The survey is online until April 2010 at
www.wti3.org.au . Go fill it out and make a difference! For more information or to download previous reports, go to
