Pinkboard isn't just me
and a few volunteer helpers. It is also the thousands and thousands of people who have surfed, browsed, read, graffitied, advertised, replied and contributed to Pinkboard over the last 19 years; on Viatel, as a BBS and on Internet. This includes you!
I think 10 years is a great reason for a celebration! (Surely you can't be thinking about another party this soon after Mardi Gras?) So that's the first task of this wall: to determine how we should celebrate. Do we want a cocktail party? Do we want dancing? Do we want a BBQ or picnic? Or do you have another idea? Where should we have it? Pinkboard is in Sydney but reaches much further, so how do we include the rest of the Pinkboarders!
I have also started putting together a history of Pinkboard. If you have memories to share please post them here.

10 years ago mobile phones were huge, heavy & analogue, the internet was only dialup, email was just starting to really take off and it would still be another year until we’d hear of the Spice Girls…
While everyone has their own opinion of how Pinkboard should work, Panther’s obviously doing something right if it’s still here after all these years. (Does anyone else remember Viatel?!)
I vote for a lavish Pinkboard Party including a huge selection of free cocktails & nibbles served to us by international superstar celebrities.
In lieu of that option, how about Sunday afternoon cocktails and music somewhere outdoors and different?
Keep on keeping on Panther!

I first logged onto pinkboard in the pre-web days when I was living in a regional area and just coming to terms with my sexuality (using a different name that I probably don't want to own up to...) . It was a window to a world I had no other access to.
I can still remember the murmers of "why would you move pinkboard from a bulletin board to a web page? No-one uses the world wide web..."
Highly entertaining!
Thanks and good luck in the future

Who is he?!
He is one of the best DJs around, with looks to match, a smile to die for and apparently, he's supposed to be a really nice bloke too!!

Pinkboard means many different things to many different people - thats the beauty of it.
Sunday picnic in a park - perhaps centennial? - sounds like a fab idea - pink flags..? Hampers, wine, friends..
Sounds like a fun afternoon.
It was hard posting to Pinkboard at first. I was sure everyone would jump down my throat and tell me off for being a newby. It's been great to have a place to share party and other experiences, both good and not so good, because its fun to share that excitement with other people, and see what they liked too. Thankfully Panther and moderators managed to catch the cranky posts I've sent out, because I usually regret them as soon as I hit send (yes, there were some).
Oh. And the gossip. Love the gossip a lot.
Congrats to Panther for Pinkboard! You know, how about SLPA throw you a party on the 21st of May? How about we call it, oh, I dunno, Inquisition 13? Hehehe! Seriously, if there's flobbing about on a rug in a park to be done, I'm your girl.
But don't forget Neal.
I've been coming to Pinkboard for many years now, long before I started working in the industry and it's always been a funspot to catch up on gossip and even meet new friends.
As for the celebration, either the club night or the picnic sounds good to me.
The idea of a Pink Picnic sounds so good me and the boyf would fly down to Sydney for it.
Also glad you're doing a history of Pinkboard...hope this will include some of the more controversial episodes which were very serious at the time but now make me laugh at the memory - wonder how many of today's pinkboarders know, for instance, that several years ago wads of posts were printed out and tendered as evidence in a certain court trial???
I didn't realise this place had been going for so long. I've only been pinkboarding for a couple of years, but I've read through some of the previous year's graffiti walls and had a bit of a chuckle
I'd love to see a "Worst of Pinkboard" awards, especially in the following categories:
* Bitchiest comment
All nominations should, of course, be anonymously posted.
There should be a three-person judging panel, including Panther (of course), Evil Twin and Media Watch's new host, Liz Jackson.
The judges decision will never be final and much correspondence will be entered into.
But seriously, this little place on the web is needed in this town, keep up the (mostly) good work everyone!
Look out for when nominations open, which should be a month or two before Pride Week.
Then we arrange a meeting point.
Encourages usage of pinkboard and saves organising coffee or cocktails
Either that or we all book a therapeutic massage thru pinkboard ffom the same Masseur at the same appointment time :D
Feel free to use it as a template if you’d like to email them with your concerns.
Thanks again for the support,
Congratulations on a fantastic achievement!
Although I haven’t met you in person (hope to, one of these days!) you’ve always struck me as a person who is genuinely committed to making a meaningful contribution to our Community. The gay Community could do with a few more Panthers!
And on the occasions that you enter into a debate, I’ve always found your comments to be considered, fair minded and articulate - which demonstrates that it IS possible to debate the ISSUES without making it personal and being bitchy.
So I just wanted to say a big “THANK YOU, PANTHER!” for the commitment, passion and expertise you put into this great Community facility.
BRAVO, baby!
Being one of West Australians gay boys to escape Perth to Sydney in the mid nineties I can say that Pinkboard was one of the ways I made a lot of new friends in what can be quite a scary city for new comers.
Keep up the good work and see you in another 10 years!
Michael
My suggestion is we hire out Arq for the night - At least it will be definitely be close to a 100% gay attended evening on that night
I be in for that.... Love to meet the pinkiest pink boarders !!
lol
How about us lesbians....?
'And the lesbians straight flatmate......"
Please aiden, staging something at Arq is just inappropriate. To many contributors have had a baaaad time there. Pinkboard is sooo much more. I vote for a drinks in the park / beach / more appropriate neutral ground.
Upstairs at the Newtown even. Lets take pinkboard off Taylor square for the day!!!!
somewhere outdoors for the celebration would be good. although i'm not one of them some people have kids plus some of the contributors aren't yet 18. just a thought..
If we dont defend our territory it will be lost forever. This is a community event that could help remind everyone who we are and what part of sydney they need to be tolerant of us in.
There has been an alarming increase of hompphobic activity around Taylor square in recent months. Thats *exactly* why we should be out there in large numbers. ..and in PINK
Reading through all the graffiti above I think the people wanting a party outnumber those who preferred a picnic by just a little bit. What I propose is to have a party this year, because it is a very special number, and next year to start an annual Pinkboard picnic.
So the next task is to start planning the actual celebration!
I have received offers from some venues who could be interested in hosting the event. Locations are in the Oxford St area and elsewhere.
Also a few people have volunteered to help with organising. If anyone else would be interested in helping please email me ASAP and we will get together really soon to start working it out.
One of the scary things about this party is that I am going to have to reveal myself to everyone.
Watch this space for more news.
And I like the new system of replies - it makes for an interesting back and forth navigation which can really screw with your head on Monday morning.
Congrats on 10 fabulous years Panther!
And for the record, my leather hat is certainly not silly!
I'd much rather celebrate the diversity of the GLBTQI community, rather than project a safe and non threatening image of heteronormative conformity (ew. I can't believe I said that. too much drinking with gender studies students. sorry).
Perhaps if you'd like to celebrate your "mainstream gays" you could have a lovely tupperware party around the BBQ in your suburban home's backyard for all your monogamous straight acting gay coupled friends. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
As for that website, yeah? And? If you'd marched in this years Mardi Gras you would have noticed the very high percentage of Asian tourists lining the streets. I asked heaps of them why they were here to watch, because I was curious about their reactions "We have NOTHING like this home! It's so exciting! So out there!" Some were gay, some were straight.
So me, I'd much prefer to celebrate with leatherfolk, queens, bi's, butches, trannies, bears, queers, dykes, and the whole alphabet of GLBTQI X Y and Z! I guess not only respecting diversity, but wallowing it
All that aside, congratulations to Panth for giving us this forum to gossip and gas bag. Even if it does get us into trouble every once and a while.
Watch this space for further details.
There are only 26 days to go !!!
There are only 26 days to go !!!
There are only 26 days to go !!!
There are only 26 days to go !!!

I hope there will be some DJ's who contribute to Pinkboard playing at the party as well!
The night is definitely on. DJs will announced in the next few days. Shows are still being planned. Brad Wright is confirmed for lighting. Pete of Petez Imagez as official photographer is confirmed.
Come and meet the people behing the names, or make a name for yourself.
And make sure you wear pink.
I take personal offence to your ridiculous remark. As a DJ from ARQ, you are implying that my music is not good. I'm sure most of the other ARQ DJ's would also take offence, as you are implying that their music is also not good.
To cement just how ridiculous your remark is, I think you will find that some, if not many, of the DJ's booked for the birthday are either regular ARQ DJ's or have played at ARQ for special events.
You are entitled to your opinion, and if the current ARQ line-up does not cater to your tastes, that's fine. But please don't imply that my music, or that of the other DJ's is not good. There are plenty of people who do go to ARQ who like the DJ's there.
I'm sure that you didn't mean to insult anyone, at least I hope you didn't, but it just goes to show that people don't think before they write. Have a little consideration and think about how your comments may be insulting someone before posting them. Wording is everything and a single word can be the difference between a post taken seriously, and one that is disregarded as pot-stirring.
For various reasons, I would have loved to have you there either playing or having a dance.
The poster should be out this week.
I read the post "Cant wait to finally hear some good music at Arq!", as being offhand enthusiasm for the Pink Party being held at ARQ, rather than deriding 'resident' DJ's there -- particularly as the Pink Party will be on a Friday night which has no real regular format.
Having said all that, it is surprising that you're not part of the lineup, but that may well be due to your other committments perhaps? You certainly rate in the group of DJ's who "are regular contributers to Pinkboard".
Unfortunately my regular job commitments rule me out of contention on that night. I hope everyone supports the night and we all can come together and celebrate what a wonderful service Pinkboard is to the community. And we also can come together to congratulate Panther for all the hard work he puts into providing Pinkboard for us all. Congratulations on 10 fabulous years Panther, here's to another 10 and more
MCR - But which one was me?
The poster says "hosted by David Wilkins". I must say I did a double take on that, as I first read it as "Richard Wilkins". Hmmm, that would be ... interesting. Now to find something pink to wear
Evil Twin: It will be David Wilkins aka Dot Dingle formerly of the Dot & Fanny Show!
MVR: See you there.
Oh almost forgot, Ms Golightly sends her love and best wishes Panther! She wishes she could be at the party but is not back in the country until June.
Just a quick message to say that I'm very excited about this Friday night. Currently searching through my wardrobe for something pink, and flicking through my cds and records for some particularly pink tracks
See you all on Friday!
Better not play that song though. It came out well before Pinkboard made it to the Internet. Closer to the time Pinkboard started.
Anyone got any Pink tracks to suggest?
If there are any songs that you're just busting to hear on the night, then let me know and I'll dig it out for you
I hope to see everyone there. You have no excuse now that Kylie's concert has been cancelled. (Kylie get well soon.)
Make sure you wear Pink!
Looking forward to seeing y'all tonight!!
So wish I could be there partying with all you lovely people tonight, but alas can't get out of a prior engagement.
Met my first boyfriend through a Pinkboard add many years ago, and even won one of Pinkboard fabulous T shirts in a competition a few years ago.
Congratulation Everyone and have a great night.
Cheers Mitch
I still dont have anything pink to wear... I was telling my partner last night that I wanted to wear pink. He just looked at me, went very quiet then burst out lughing... How rude. Never fear - I will find something pink today...
See you all tonight

I got my dates confused...i thought the party was tonight and was going to post a special 10 year message.
As always, great work, Panther. I so wish i was there.
ta ta for now
I had a sensational time at the party both in and out of the dj booth and enjoyed meeting so many Pinkboarders. Also really enjoyed catching up with Murray, Dan and Brad (unfortunately I missed out on seeing Luke).
Also enjoyed the shows from both Portia and Shauna Jensen, lots of fun and very entertaining.
Overall a really fun night and one more huge Thank You to Panther and ARQ (Michael in particular) for giving me the chance to play there.
PS Someone please remind me never to run around with a pink sequin cowboy hat after a few beers (cheap drunk).

Happy Birthday - Fri 18 Mar 2005 16:05:44
What a wonderful milestone. Cheers and hugs to Panther for keeping it going and making it work so well. Let's hope it continues well into the future also. We've seen many GLBT sites come and go on the internet over the years. Some, big, some transient, some informative, others just good for perve value but Pinkboard has always been there and sets a standard for local content, discussion and bringing many, many Australian GLBT people together and in touch with others over these times. I met my current partner and lover 7 years ago through this site. The Grafitti boards were also wonderful and very cathartic at times (I still cringe when I read the archives sometimes!!). In addition to Pride awards or other GLBT community recognition, Panther should get an OA medal for his efforts! Get nominating folks. Pinkboard is an internet gem in the Australian GLBT community. Happy anniversary!

Umm Actually I think we are in real danger of losing our gay areas completely. I think whenever possible we should try as hard as we can to keep Taylor Square Gay. Its more then 60% Str8, and often hostile these days. Running away wont help. Staging gay community events there will.

I suggest we celebrate 10 years of pinkboard by directing a new image.
Gay is now very mainstream , lets gey away from the image of silly leather hats and men dressed up in drag, and move on to the majority of what is happening out there, just nice gay relationships and freindships , just like the sitcom queer eye for the straightguy.

Evil Twin
- Mon 18 Apr 2005 12:14:44
I respect diversity , but lets not dwell too much on the silly leather hat brigade that represents the 70's image of a very small group of gays , how about something for the majority of gays , mainstream gays.
have a look at the website Fridae.com a singapore gay web site , that tackles equality issues , film ,dining, venues, fashion , regional travel etc.

I've been looking at this board for a few days, but there hasn't been much activity. Subsequently, every time I look at this board, I re-read the last posting made.

Pink DJs
I think I can announce the DJs now:
Shanobear, Murray Hood, Dan Murphy, Luke Leal
Not 100% sure of the order yet. All the DJs have been chosen because they are regular contributers to Pinkboard.

Re: Re: PINK
Jake, I can't help but feel you sometimes read posts about DJ's too defensively. This isn't the first time you've felt the need to get something off your chest.

Re: Re: PINK
Its only Sunday, and someone was already coming down. Jake, not everyone has to like your music. A load of people out there seriously do.
Pinkboard has a wide scope of contributors, not all of them are into the "usual arq sound" Why not just come and celebrate with Panther for Pinkboards birthday? I bet you'll even get some drinks bought for you by fans... like me!

I just realised, the Pink Party will be my first time in the Arena at ARQ. I've only ever been in the Vortex for the girly nights. OMG! A virgin! Be gentle with me.

There seems to be a subterranean buzz around town. I know the Cross City Tunnel is opening soon, but I would like to think it is because of Pink. Looks like it is going to be a faaaaaaabulous night. Only one week to go, and I don't have a thing to wear. Time to go shopping!

Pink Songs?
Apart from the obvious (Pink herself), how about Freeway Of Love by Aretha Franklin. It has the line about a pink cadillac in it and I just love Aretha Franklin
