Last night was the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras parade and we had so much fun! The parade had over 6,000 participants and zillions of sequins and dodgy fashion choices that are perfect for mardi gras. Our routine was a really high energy routine that left us all exhausted half way in.
I was just [...]
Hmmm ... well I reckon I should start with some background info about me.
I'm 41 now and until the age of 32 my life was pretty awesome! I was living with my partner of 10 years Robert, I had a great job as a commercial photographer/graphic designer, loving family and friends .... it really couldn't have been better.
Decemeber 2000 I came home one day and Robert was laying dead on our bed. WTF? Yep, it was certainly a shock and unfortunatly things just got worse. I lost my job because gay people didn't and still don't have equal rights. My boss sacked me because I needed to have time off to grieve. The bank froze my bank accounts which meant I couldn't access savings or pay the mortgage. The tax department didn't recognise our relationship and regarded our 'partnership' as a business partnership and so thought they were entitled to 46% of Roberts estate.
I had a 5 year legal battle related to this huge mess

Taken from the Friendly Atheist:
84-year-old Milton Christian received a Bronze Star on Tuesday for his “heroic service” in World War II. It’s a belated honor, but a well-deserved one:
From 1943 to 1946 Christian served as a machine gunner with the 29th Infantry Division. He doesn’t consider himself a hero, although his collection of medals tells another story — Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, European-African Middle Eastern Campaign medal, Victory Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award, Honorable Service Lapel Button, Marskman Badge — ribbons he says he earned simply doing his job, protecting his fellow soldiers.

If this sounds offensive, it is not meant to. Different times and I am using the word that was used.
One of my exes, well I only have one, favoured a very personal way to buy on credit, especially when it came to electric appliances. The Jew would call, the ex would tell him what he wanted, say a new fridge, and the following week a fridge would arrive without any money up front.
Every week the Jew would call to collect money towards repayment. I imagine there was an amount of interest paid. Would it have been high? The ex's mother was a long time user of the Jew's credit facility. They both treated him like a friend, so I guess his interest rate was quite reasonable, especially for people who could not get normal credit at the bank.
Probably preferable to formal Hire Purchase. Anyone know what that interest rate might have been for HP, as it used to be referred to?

Gay used to be such a lovely word. It used to mean such lovely things. But THEY have taken this lovely word, and THEY have made it into something horrible.
I’m talking about teenagers, of course.
I’m old enough, now, to have known three quite different meanings for the word “gay”. And I guess, reflective of my [...]
While I was cleaning my room tonight I found about $20 cash (from various pockets etc). Now if only I could do that 1000 more times it would sure help me with my hunt for a new home.
I went to an auction today to a very nice place I saw a few weeks ago. It [...]

I'm somewhat confused, decidedly undecided and a little bit worried... all of which is making me cranky...
To start the story at the end, I went looking at flat screen teevees again this afternoon, and while I think I found one I like, that goes with an entertainment system I like, the sum total of which would turn four appliances into two, it's still a big fat chunky of change... and even though I have the money and fully intend to get a new teevee and entertainment system, it's still kinda hard to lay out the big bucks like that.
It's also something of a "windowsill" problem (which I&apos
