Pinkboard: 1996 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Guide

The 1996 Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival is on from the 2nd of February till the 2nd of March, concluding with the spectacular Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade.

Mardi Gras is the premier event of Sydney's, Australia's and even the world's lesbian and gay calendar. It is a celebration of our sexuality, and our liberation from oppression due to our sexuality. It is a month where we can feel normal. But we aren't all mincing queens and diesel dykes! The poster (the silouhettes above arranged in the squares of the background) celebrates the diversity of our community (communities).

This year the launch of the month long festival is in the forecourt (foreplay in the forecourt?) of one of Sydney's major landmarks: the Opera House. It is a sign of acceptance by Sydney of our sexuality.
